Reviews

“Screencheat is the Mario Kart of first person shooters and I absolutely mean that as a compliment”
Kotaku

“Easy going in tone but frantic and stressful by nature, Screencheat seizes on a single novel idea and builds an enjoyable couch shooter around it.”
7.8 – PC Gamer

“Glancing at someone else’s screen and knowing exactly where they are would be nigh-on impossible in most shooters, but Samurai Punk combats this through some smart level design.”

About This Game

Screencheat is the ridiculous split-screen shooter where everyone is invisible so you have to “screencheat” (Screencheat - verb: to look at your opponent’s screens. “Stop screencheating you cheater!”). Master a wide variety of one-hit kill weapons including a blunderbuss, a car engine that shoots bouncing plasma balls and a teddy bear loaded with explosives. Train your skills in the solo time trials then engage in fast and frantic combat with up to eight players locally on the couch or online. With colourful maps, unique modes and a huge number of customisation options including wacky mutators, Screencheat is the ultimate party FPS.

Ranging from the dependable Blunderbuss to the heroic Hobby Horse to the completely crazy Chefolet; a car engine that fires ricocheting energy balls, all are designed to deliver deadly satisfaction. Each weapon comes with its own unique advantages and disadvantages, encouraging wildly different play styles. These include not only the way a weapon shoots but also the 'tells' the weapon leaves such as the smoke from the blunderbuss or the trail of fire behind the Hobby Horse.

From traditional favourites such as Deathmatch to the completely unique Murder Mystery that challenges you to find and frag your specific target with a specific weapon. Play in teams or all against all. Challenge up to seven of your mates on the couch or online or a combination of both, the game is always split screen whether you are on or offline. When your friends aren't around, train your skills and learn the maps in the solo time trials or play against AI bots.

In the spirit of the best arena shooters you’ll spend time traversing 11 maps via air vents and trampolines until you’ve acquired your target and fragged them accordingly. Each map is designed with colour-coded areas as well as plentiful landmarks such as statues, paintings and furniture that allow you to quickly locate other players without being able to actually see them.

Inspired by games like Towerfall we've provided players with a highly granular level of customisation to play the game the way they want to. Choose which weapons you'll allow, how and when they can be swapped or reloaded, apply time limits, adjust the victory conditions, penalties and more. To really mix it up stack on some Mutators such as slow mode, low gravity or flappy jump.

This is by far one of the most fun and clever games I've ever played. It's an amazing concept to put in to a video game along with an awesome way to make sure nobody takes advantage of the invisibility feature (Color-coding for certain parts of each map). There's a variety of weapons which help to make the game interesting along with many maps and gamemodes to explore. I personally love the graphics which helps to make the gameplay experience even better. 10/10

It sounds hilarious, but it doesn't work as well as advertised. When the novelty wears off, it is getting quite tedious to hunt invisible players.

Get some friends, a big screen, some beers and get ready to be shooting all around like a maniac.

Screencheat is a game that starts very confusing, but makes more sense every match.

With a nice artwork and a proper atmosphere (musics and environment), this game will surely grant hours of laughing and fun. Even though the replay value is not that high, the developers did a great job in adding many game types. Me and my friends used to create tacit rules, as our own "mini-games", extending the play time.

A must play for those who like sharing screens and FPS.

A fun game to play with friends on the weekend, except for trying to track down enough controllers. That's a good thing

My 7 year old son loves to play this one with me. He has never played a FPS before, but caught quickly and is now bear-bombing his father to the giggling delight of his sisters. Fun for the friends, family and whoever else that loves to 'cheat' at FPSs.

Possibly the most entertaining multiplayer First-Person Shooter out there right now.

Focus is on couch mulitplayer over online, but this game offers both, and you can even play "couch and online" together. The developers are constantly tweaking and improving the game, and are very responsive to feedback. It's a little buggy on occasion, but that's part of its charm.

If you are looking for a FPS off the beaten path (and this one is faaar off the path), this game is it.

Step 1. Do something that is considered wrong in all other cases.
Step 2. Use your otherwise illegal informaton to kill someone.
Step 3. Die, because someone else did the same.

Wonderful concept, beautiful execution.

10/10, would Screencheat again.

Do you remember when playing first-person shooters locally was your only option for multiplayer modes? Screencheat developer Samurai Punk does.Screencheat is a loving homage to those days, with one unique twist—looking at the screens of your opponents is essential to ensuring victory. Regardless of whether you’re playing Screencheat locally or online you can always see your opponents’ point-of-view, as the game brings back those split-screen windows that are slowly becoming a thing of the past. While playing a first-person shooter in split-screen is typically not ideal, in Screencheat it is absolutely necessary as each player in a match is invisible, thus forcing you to check their screen to discover their position on the map. While you’re not exactly armed to the teeth with weaponry, the game does feature a reasonably sizeable selection to choose from, with the majority of them being suitably off-the-wall. There are a few guns that are based in reality, such as the revolver and blunderbuss, though there are also the likes of the hobby horse, which gives you a boost of super speed and kills your enemies when you bump into them, the candelabra, which can be used to beat enemies over the head, and my personal favorite the bear bomb, a remotely detonated teddy bear that hops around the battlefield in a similar fashion to the explosive sheep featured in the Worms series.Screencheat’s unabashed love of the insanity of late-nineties/early-noughts shooters is thoroughly endearing, though its homage to the frenzied action of the likes of Goldeneye 007, TimeSplitters and Unreal Tournament is somewhat absent in its level design. Samurai Punk puts such a strong emphasis on symmetry that each map feels like it’s missing something.Thankfully Screencheat excels in its 5 game modes, which feature the likes of deathmatch and king of the hill, alongside a fun ‘One Shot’ game variant that only allows players to reload after each competitor has shot a round from their weapon, and the inventive ‘Murder Mystery’ mode which sees players being handed a selection of cards detailing the color of the room that the opponent they must kill is hiding in, alongside a picture of the weapon that they must kill them with.Screencheat’s unique concept is one that provides a nice dose of hilarity and harkens back to all those memories spent staying up late playing with friends.

It's alot of good fun, I use to screencheat alot at halo and this brings back the good ol'e days of splitscreen gaming.. I don't get the chance to play many splitscreen games anymore, my friends have got kids now and such.. But playing online it's still splitscreen so it still has that "local" splitscreen feel to it, probably even more so when you get mics on and get a few beers in with some online buddies :)

You can also incorperate local and online mp, so you could have you and your friend sitting next to you, while playing 4 player splitscreen with 2 more players over the internet!

It's a very interesting concept and the weapons have a nice feel to them like you would want in an FPS game, movement is fast paced, guns feel solid and engaging and generally it's just alot of fun and a very unique way of bringing back splitscreen gaming era
