Screencheat Update 2.1 - Training Time

Hi all,

We've been hard at work fixing up a few bugs in the last update and finishing up something that didn't quite make the last patch; Training Mode!

Training Mode is a new way to play Screencheat offline by yourself. It features a basic and advanced time trial across all 10 maps, in addition to an Infinite mode for you to hone your Screencheating skills. Each of the timed modes features Bronze, Silver and Gold times for you to beat. Get two bronze medals on each map to unlock the next map.

Bug Fixes
  • Fixed an issue where players would get stuck "Waiting for Players 2/3" or similar at the start of a round.
  • Fixed a related issue where the lobby count would be incorrect in the lobby browser
  • Fixed players seeing "Joining next round" for more than one round
  • Game timers (duration, oneshot) synchronise correctly for spectators/players joining mid game
  • Assorted small fixes

Much Love,

Screencheat Update 2.0 - The Omega

Hello everyone!
Welcome to another huge Screencheat update. We've added new maps, a weapon, a game mode, team modes for everything, and heaps more!

2 New Maps Added
Temple - A beautiful zen temple featuring jump pads, vent shortcuts and super high vantage points.
Loop - A gravity defying map with a track running around the outside which the players follow all the way until the map flips and loops around back to the top, all set to a serene starlit vista.

New Weapon Added - The wall_Hacker
This new gun fires through walls as the name implies with a near infinite range. It can be either blindfired or charged to show a laser sight which can easily pin-point other players on their screens. The wall_Hacker is a precision weapon with a long reload time so aim your shots carefully.

New Game Mode - Gold Rush
Gold Rush pits players against each other in short rounds where the map is filled with gold coins. Players must collect as many coins as they can within the time limit to win. If you’re killed holding any coins you will drop half of them, allowing other players to rush in and claim your stash!

Support for up to 8 players Locally and Online
Lobbies can be created for 8 players, or switched into 8 player mode under the Lobby Settings menu. Local Lobbies now contain the Lobby Settings tab to support this.

Team Variant of All Modes (ex. Juggernaut)
All modes (excluding Juggernaut) now have team variants which allow for 2-4 teams to play against each other. These can be customised and saved as custom modes just like standard modes.

Mutators
We’ve added 13 crazy Mutators which can be applied to any mode via the GameMode settings menu in the Lobby.

Online Improvements
Kick Voting - Players can now vote to kick each other from servers. They will be kicked if a majority votes for a single player to be kicked.
Switching Host - The host is able to select any remote player in their lobby and assign them as host.

4 new Ragdolls
These can be unlocked by leveling up your profiles to new milestones.

Juicy Soundtrack Update
The official soundtrack by ana_mana has now been professionally mixed and mastered.

3 new achievements to unlock
Check them out in Library!

New Gamemode Settings
  • Weapon Swap Type: Switch at Spawn, Free Switching and Weapon Crates
Show Campers: Reveal players who have not moved for at least 10 seconds
Show Weapon Trails: Can toggle weapon smoke trails on and off

Design/Balance Changes

Bear Bomb explosion radius up from 5.5 - 7 units

Acerca deste jogo

Screencheat is a ridiculous competitive split-screen first-person shooter where everyone is invisible, so players are forced to look at each other’s screens in order to win. Supporting both local and online multiplayer, combat in Screencheat is fast and furious with a wide variety of one-hit kill weapons ranging from traditional guns like the blunderbuss or grenade launcher through to unique options such as a hobby horse, a modified car engine that shoots bouncing plasma balls and a teddy bear loaded with explosives.

Ranging from the dependable Blunderbuss to the heroic Hobby Horse to the completely crazy Chefolet; a car engine that fires ricocheting energy balls, all are designed to deliver deadly satisfaction. Each weapon comes with its own unique advantages and disadvantages, encouraging wildly different play styles. These include not only the way a weapon shoots but also the 'tells' the weapon leaves such as the smoke from the blunderbuss or the trail of fire behind the Hobby Horse.

From traditional favourites such as Deathmatch to the completely unique Murder Mystery that challenges you to find and frag your specific target with a specific weapon. Play in teams or all against all. Challenge up to seven of your mates on the couch or online or a combination of both, the game is always split screen whether you are on or offline.

In the spirit of the best arena shooters you’ll spend time traversing 10 maps via air vents and trampolines until you’ve acquired your target and fragged them accordingly. Each map is designed with colour-coded areas as well as plentiful landmarks such as statues, paintings and furniture that allow you to quickly locate other players without being able to actually see them.

Inspired by games like Towerfall we've provided players with a highly granular level of customisation to play the game the way they want to. Choose which weapons you'll allow, how and when they can be swapped or reloaded, apply time limits, adjust the victory conditions, penalties and more. To really mix it up stack on some Mutators such as slow mode, low gravity or flappy jump.

Do you remember when playing first-person shooters locally was your only option for multiplayer modes? Screencheat developer Samurai Punk does.Screencheat is a loving homage to those days, with one unique twist—looking at the screens of your opponents is essential to ensuring victory. Regardless of whether you’re playing Screencheat locally or online you can always see your opponents’ point-of-view, as the game brings back those split-screen windows that are slowly becoming a thing of the past. While playing a first-person shooter in split-screen is typically not ideal, in Screencheat it is absolutely necessary as each player in a match is invisible, thus forcing you to check their screen to discover their position on the map. While you’re not exactly armed to the teeth with weaponry, the game does feature a reasonably sizeable selection to choose from, with the majority of them being suitably off-the-wall. There are a few guns that are based in reality, such as the revolver and blunderbuss, though there are also the likes of the hobby horse, which gives you a boost of super speed and kills your enemies when you bump into them, the candelabra, which can be used to beat enemies over the head, and my personal favorite the bear bomb, a remotely detonated teddy bear that hops around the battlefield in a similar fashion to the explosive sheep featured in the Worms series.Screencheat’s unabashed love of the insanity of late-nineties/early-noughts shooters is thoroughly endearing, though its homage to the frenzied action of the likes of Goldeneye 007, TimeSplitters and Unreal Tournament is somewhat absent in its level design. Samurai Punk puts such a strong emphasis on symmetry that each map feels like it’s missing something.Thankfully Screencheat excels in its 5 game modes, which feature the likes of deathmatch and king of the hill, alongside a fun ‘One Shot’ game variant that only allows players to reload after each competitor has shot a round from their weapon, and the inventive ‘Murder Mystery’ mode which sees players being handed a selection of cards detailing the color of the room that the opponent they must kill is hiding in, alongside a picture of the weapon that they must kill them with.Screencheat’s unique concept is one that provides a nice dose of hilarity and harkens back to all those memories spent staying up late playing with friends.

I held off on getting this game for a while. My experience of indie FPS' has been mostly negative, some have been OK but really havn't been able to offer anything unique at the cost of smooth play, graphics and content. The concept of this game looked funny and original but I was sceptical about how fun it would actually be.

Boy was I wrong. The basic concept of invisible players and having to "screencheat" to find them is really something you need to experience for yourself. Level design colors rooms differently to make it easier to screencheat - thus familiarity with the map is not everything. Games are intense and involve split second choices such as firing in the enemies general direction or glancing over at their screen one last time to determine their location more precisely.

The game offers more than this concept though. The game offers tradition kill mode, king of the hill, capture the flag. It also has a "one shot mode" where you cant fire again until 15 seconds elapse or all other players fire. As well as a cluedo inspired game mode, where you have to kill a particular player with a particular weapon.

The weapon system is also in my opinion far superior to other FPS'. Instead of being aware of weapon spawn points on maps being the key to winning, each time you respawn you pick your weapon, ANY weapon, and you cannot change it until you respawn again. The weapons are all balanced, unique in concept, and offer different strategies, advantages and weaknesses.

Graphics are suitable for the purposes of the game but quite poor. If you're overly concerned with graphics in your FPS' then this game might not be for you. Otherwise there are no drawbacks.

Thrilling game. Best FPS I have ever played.

Screencheat is damned clever. It is a fast-paced first person arena shooter in colorful maps where you are always watching the screen of every player, to find their position and murder them. There are several game modes, including death match, king of the hill, murder mystery, and others. Murder Mystery is like death match, except you are given a weapon to pick up and a target to kill -- and you only score if you accomplish killing that selected target with that specific weapon. The weapons are clever, too. Rifle revolver, exploding bear bomb, blunderbuss, brave knight charging on a children's makeshift horse-on-a-stick.

The only downside is the limited player-base. As of this writing, you can find a game, but it will take awhile and you will probably be the one who has to host it. This would be improved, if the developers didn't require you to leave the game and go back to a lobby in order to pick up new players (including those who are actively spectating you and may want to join). A smarter move would be to just fill the empty slots with new players as old players drop off. If not during a game or round, then in-between rounds. This oversight is frustrating.

As of this writing, Humble Bundle store has this game on sale for four copies for ten bucks. It is absolutely worth that. Even if you have to find a few people to play locally on a LAN with. This is a unique experience that should be tried.

I grew up on the ol' N64 playing "Mario Kart 64", "Perfect Dark", and "Goldeneye". Every single game I would play with my friends I would be accused of screen cheating. Yes, I am a screen cheater. I have admitted my problem and now need some way to satisfy my addiction. How about playing a game where everyone is invisible and you HAVE to screen cheat?

I love games that have unique gameplay mechanics and I think this may be the most unique one I have ever played. This game is wonderful. You may think it's a one trick pony that will get old within an hour. To be honest that was kind of what I expected. Boy, am I glad I was wrong. There are quite a few game modes, a handful of maps, and Online AND local play. Yes that's right, you can plug in some controllers and gather round the TV for some good old fashioned screen cheatin'. I got this game in a four pack for 9.99 on The Humble Store but I would have gladly payed full price :)

Anyone who has owned a N64 would remember Goldeneye. And anyone who has played Goldeneye with friends would have cheated by looking at their screen so they know where they are. Don't deny it. Everyone has done it. Well, if you have been screen cheating in a lot of games, well your work has paid off. Now it is a necessity. In this game, you have to kill your opponent but everyone is invisible. To find them, you must screencheat in order to win. This game is extremely fun if you have friends to play with. Online or Local the game proves that you can have good times with it. The biggest dissapoint is most definetly the lack of AI. There IS NO singleplayer practice mode. Also they multiplayer base is still small but as time goes by it will grow. If you know a lot of people with Screencheat, this is a must have. If you do not know anyone with this game, or just don't have any friends, take a pass.

This game is a great co-op shooter with a great consept. It is fun to play and good use of time. Everynow and then when i was screencheating, i would stop my self thinking i shouldnt cheat but then remembering thats how you play. Its is such a good idea turning what was a big problem with FPS into a game of itself.
Also great to see it came from an Australian company.

If you always screencheated as a kid you will be instantly a pro gamer in this game - if you always were a honest player and kept the eyes on your screen you will need some time to practice, but after that you will kill those nasty screencheaters, too.

The game is unique and fun, even when you are not 10 years old anymore.

The style of the game is suitable for children and the community is very nice as far as I can tell.

I give it 9/10 points but it may change with future updates since the developers improve the game frequently.

This is probably one of the more fun games to play multiplayer with friends at home. One of the really nice things about it is that you can play with friends locally and online at the same time, and everyone's screen is displayed in game.

My only quarrel with this game is that not enough people play it so it's really tough to find a game.

A fantastic game that just goes back to the basics of split screen and all the shenanigans that go along with it.
Great for parties local and online, fantastic way to see just how angry your friends can get, after they've been crossbowed multiple times.

An incredibly fun and laughter inducing game, gauranteed to make your friends ♥♥♥♥♥♥ at you or your Bear Bomb back!
Good selection of weapons(can't wait to see what else might be added), and great maps so far(would love to see community made maps if possible.)

Favorite time so far was taking the Horse stick(forgot the words) and having a jousting competition in the tunnel of the garden map.

3 hours well spent so far, and many more to come.

Remember the days when you and a couple of friends would bust out the N64 and turn on some GoldenEye, and then every single one of you would swear you weren't looking at the other's screen even though you were? Screencheat takes you back to those days, and embraces the concept that when you stuff 4 players on the same screen, they *will* look at them no matter how honest they may be.

The concept is simple, everyone is invisible and everyone sees each other's screens. There are a ton of game modes ranging from classic deathmatch to a Clue-like minigame where you play detective trying to find your targets. There's both offline and online multiplayer, making this game a must-have for anyone who does local splitscreen already. With just a single controller and a keyboard, you can play two players and join an online lobby with two others.

There are around ten unique weapons in all, each catering to a different style and allowing for a different approach to the game. The visuals are pretty effective for the concept of the game with most maps being split into four colors to help figure out which part of the map someone is actually in.

It's not something you're going to play for hours on end, but it's an excellent pick-up-and-play party shooter. I definitely recommend this one if you've often got friends over and are looking for something entertaining to play.

Remember the good old days of local split-screen multiplayer? Remember how you could just look at your friend's screen to see where they were at any given time, even if they had an invisibility power-up? Well, this game was designed around that type of strategy and as far as I know is the only retail game in existence to have online split-screen multiplayer in an FPS. It's invisible screen-peeking instagib madness, and it's the most fun I've had in an FPS in a long time.

Many people argue that "screen peeking" is cheating, but in this game it's the only way to win since everyone is invisible until gibbed... or fragged... or eliminated... or slammed... or unfriended... or corrupted... or #PWN'd... or any verb the kill feed decides to use. And then you find out your ragdoll is a humanoid chicken, or a man with the head of a horse, or even just a good old fashioned skeleton. The game is very silly and doesn't take itself too seriously, which only adds to the fun. Even the weapons are silly, including a remote detonated bouncing bear bomb, a stick horse that allows you to charge at your opponents, and a candelabra that acts as a standard melee attack, as well as a more traditional blunderbuss (shotgun) and revolver.

Every stage is split into 4 colored areas, and for the most part they all have some kind of symmetry to them, but they still manage to be unique and some are almost just as maze-like as the old Goldeneye 64 maps. Overall, I'd say this is an excellent game to mess around with friends in, and the 4-pack is definitely worth it if you can afford it or get your friends to chip in.

Below you'll find a written and video impression on the game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSQX2BxuNGk

Remember back in the day, when people played multiplayer FPS on the same screen locally and on split screen? Remember how there's always that one person who's looking at your screen to find where you are? Well Screencheat is made for that one person! Except this time around, the game promotes each player to screen cheat and every one is on equal grounds!

The gimmick behind Screencheat is that every player is invisible with only each other's screen as indicators to where s/he might be. As a player, you must manage your own screen so you know where you're going and shooting, while paying attention to every one elses, so you know where to aim. It's a very simple idea that's executed very well.

Graphically the game isn't much to look at. It's more functional than it is pretty. Luckily for most, this is not the type of game that people will care too much about the aesthetics, rather the mechanics. As mentioned above, mechanically this game pulls off it's goal with success. It is a pretty basic FPS when you strip away the multiscreen / invisible player gimmick, but in a game like this, simplicity is probably for the best.

The game is very fun, especially if you have a soft spot for old time local play FPS feel, even if it does support online as well as local. It's nothing too special to look at, but it is something special to play with friends!

Pros:
- Frantic micro-management of multiple screens
- Very interesting concept
- Easy to understand and jump into

Cons:
- Aesthetics are some what weak
- Might be too mechanically simple for some
