What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Robocraft has been built with a dedicated community of Robocrafters from the very beginning. The game's first release was in April 2013 and that buildhad no multiplayer and no combat. From that point to today, the game has grown exponentially to its full MMO state and whilst we still call it a 'Live Alpha' you will find it a very polished and fully featured experience.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Freejam are now plotting a path to full release with an aim to be out of Early Access by the end of 2016.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“While users accounts will never be reset - so what you earn in game now you will always keep - the full release of Robocraft will contain a number of additional key core features, many more social features, Clans, more game modes, many more functional components and weapons, a tutorial and PVE mode and full game localisation into many different languages.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“We call it 'Early Alpha' but we expect you to find it as polished and fully featured as most 'Beta' releases.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No, Robocraft will always be free-to-play and our prices won't change as a result of shifting from Early Access to a full release in future.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Freejam (the developer of Robocraft) has community in its blood. The word Freejam is a combination of 'free' and 'jam', where 'free' shows our dedication to keeping Robocraft always free, and 'jam' stands for jamming with our community to determine how our game continues to evolve. We like to think of Robocraft as a game that has been built from the ground up in collaboration with the community.”

Thi used to be good, very good with potential...but lately introduction of smart weapons, has attracted alot of dumb players..somethings are too good, while many things are left broken and subpar, instead of correcting this they choose to introduce more of the new op crap, and rewards are random loot of randomness, mostly crap...recycle value is abysmal small, takes ages to grind robits to build what you want...unless your born with a golden fork up your bum and strike the lottery 20 times in a row...yea forget it.
Can no longer recommend this..been waiting for positive changes, patience ran out.

I played Robocraft alot when it was first out a few years ago and at the time It was a fairly fun game, that I played often until my computer had not supported it until recently when I find that a large ammount of the fun has seemingly vaporised into the air with the newer changes. For insance I will start with the Possitives.

Possitives:
1:The new team death match. (so when you die its not the end)
2:And the new painting of blocks. (though with only 4 paints when your not prenium, being Light blue, Orange, Gray, and White, all other colors you require prenium for.)
3:The lack of a part tech tree.
4:And the Crates of new random parts. (more so the ones you earn while playing, and the ranks of crates you get form how well you did the previous round)

Though There are many possitives form the previous versions of robocraft there are many negitives to replace them.
Neutruals:
1:The new 1 type of Cube. (instead of having to replace all your cubes with higher tiered cubes costing a large sum of Robits)

Negitives:
1:The New Part Ranking system.
2:The Lack of Tiered Games. (many times over I've meet a game where I found a player who is just a Plasma Goliathon/Lock-on Missile Launcher/Ion Distorter/Laser Leviathan/Aeroflak Cannon just on a single block with a mode of transport (most likly Hover, Copter, or Wheels) Getting MVP and killing everyone in 1/2 hits while everyone else concentrates fire on them and they hardly scratch.)
3:Over Powered Parts Everywhere in weaker games. (Above)
The new cloaking device and Teslas combined. (The new cloaking device allows for one to seemingly appear right next to you then instantly kill you with melees, and hiding them selves after being spotted instantly.)
4:Proto-Seekers UnderPowered/OverPriced. (For being 10,000 Robits it does less damage than the weakest laser (the wasp at 25 times the price (400 robits) It is also quite a large weapon so it would be best if it where to be buffed to the power of at least the Hornet or Blaster.)
5:The lack of a one buy forver Premium. (Heck if it where forver I would buy it for 30$)
6:Only 1 map for Team Death match. (even if the enviorment was Earth everytime at least have the difference of land marks and obsticales be different.
7:OP Weapons Vs Respawns (Some of the Legendaries can kill you in one hit even if you just respawned with the new repair instead of invencibility)

What I would Change:
1:Respawn Changing: I would make it so when you spawn you are cloaked for between 3-5 seconds and you can freely move while being invencible but you will not beable to inflect damage or heal allies, this will allow for less spawn camping and more fair fights.

2:Reinstallment of Tiered Groups or Scaled Armor/Power: To prevent the "Pay-2-Win" weapons from owning everyone stuck with an empty wallet form spending money on stupid things like food, water, and shelter. There is two things you can do, either make it so such over powered weapons highly weigh one towards a higher tiered game where they would be meet with an equal challange (and less free protonium crates form care-less MVPs) or make it so depending on how your robot is made (ie:block count) Effects how much power your weapons can inflect, and how much you can take.

3:Make a one time buy Premium, you might just earn way more money that way. (especially if us customers buy it and then go meh and esentually waste the money that we could've saved if we payed only as much as we play.)

4:Also just something that mainly I face, and mostlikly a few others, a way to change our ingame names.

My In game info: UN: SnivyTheSniper (Though I wish it where like Sniperian) and I'm Level 89. (almost 90)

This game is pretty cool... Although it really needs some work in the money balance. Unless you don't want people to play give us more loot and money for the love of fluff! I have to grind for HOURS just to get and EPIC. It's crazy and need some balance. All around it's pretty cool with great mechanics but the Developers need to listen to the community more.

TLDR I do not recommend this game, not even if you paid me to. Links in info, please look.

I recommended this game quite a while ago and honestly used to love it and support it. However, the game design has gone ways that are just unapealing, unchallanging and quite bothersome to me. I started playing this game because I like building robots, and at the time of me playing, it was the only game I knew about that was of this sort. However, as time went on, I saw other similar games, and I also saw good suggestions for robocraft, not get implemented in game, while bad suggestions and ideas did. Seb, one of the game devs seems to think our negative reviews are jokes, but this just shows you how seriously they take our criticism because its their game and they want to take it the way they want, the way that makes them the most money and scares off the most logical players and makes way for children who have fat wallets for GambleCraft 2.0 open your wallet addition. Well, now they are on damage control and posting fake apologies, but its a bit too little and a bit too late. Dont apologize, fix this game and revert far far back to when it was once a good game. I dont care about all the time you spent on it, you ruined it. You fix the game and you will fix the reviews by doing so. Until than, keep laughing freescam, but if you go out of buisness, dont expect me to not laugh because it was YOUR fault. I dont want you to fail, but you seem dead set on doing so. I could list all the things I hate about how the game went but seb will just say get used to it. https://twitter.com/sebify/status/726373014854615040 #Game dev, FreeScam games https://twitter.com/sebify/status/677895687548350465 https://twitter.com/TomCat__86/status/728177749706186753 oh and dont forget, they will ban you for talking about other games or having valid cricitism on bad updates. http://steamcommunity.com/id/Juvar23/recommended/301520/ What other company do you know of that is that insecure? Hell I cant think of any. Whoops, I talked about how the update is horrible. BAN, Whoops I talked about a game thats better than robocraft, BAN. http://steamcommunity.com/app/301520/discussions/2/364040166681997039/ it also appears the company freejam that puts out robocraft is owned by a mobile gambling game company and freejam owes them over 1 million dollars of debt due in september. http://robocraftgame.com/forums/topic/will-robocraft-be-adversely-affected-because-74-of-freejam-owned-by-hyperion/

I love reading the recent reviews on steam about robocraft and you can easily see how pretty much all recent reviews are negative. The only reason the game still has an overal possitive rating is because the possitive reviews are years old by people who no longer play. I hope you devs have a fun time dealing with bankruptcy.

There are many bugs, imbalances, and seriously large pet peeves in this Robocraft game for me. You are very limited in what you can build, but other games have much more freedom that are also free. I have recently started playing Machine Craft on steam, I have screen shots of the bots I have made and come in contact with. You can build so complex and so large in that game its like using a megabot x100. You can even build transforming transformers. However, the skill cap is much higher, the game takes much more thought, and the community is much more mature. If this is what you are looking for, try machine craft if you like building. If you like a younger audiance and a very low skill cap, play robocraft. This is a link to Machine Craft. It was recently just released on steam so the community is rather small but when you like it, tell your friends about it and it will grow. Its an amazing game. http://store.steampowered.com/app/397100
This is a link to steamcraft if you enjoy the competitive side that robocraft sort' of granted. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=619286876

Either game looks like a great replacement for robocrap, I hope you enjoy the replacements and also give robocraft a deserved review like most of us have. Evidenced by the continually declinging approval rating.

This game used to be fun. Now it's a money grabbing, gambling-orientated piece of ♥♥♥♥. No fun anymore the whole aspect has been replaced with grind. Just grind grind grind. Want to skip grind? Dish out a couple of thousand dollars to sit through hours of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ crate opening you can't skip to accumulate a few hundred thousand "robits" which is worth a couple of legendary plasma guns or SMGS. Only then may you reach the top and stay there for a couple of weeks before more dumb ♥♥♥♥ is added so you can grind and grind even more.

Just kidding, there is no top anymore. Back when the game had a purpose, which was you getting to the highest tier (TX-1) and unlocking everything step by step in the tech tree. Everything had a tier except cosmetics - weapons, cubes, thrusters, you name it. Each tier cube had a unique colour too. Black cubes was a symbol of respect, everyone followed you around and hid behind you since you could take the most damage, while purple cubes were not a symbol of respect. These days you can colour your whole bot in four ugly colours, white, grey, pale orange and pale blue. All of the nice colours are hidden away behind premium. Oh boy, premium! Just 99p a day! Who do you think I am, the prince of Nigeria?

If you had a T2 bot, you were matched fairly against players from your own tier. Even if you had T6 railguns, you were still put with players of the same level. What about today? Newbies and veteran players all get grabbed in handfuls and mashed together into a "match". Who pays the most for rocket launchers and legendary bull ♥♥♥♥ is the winner in every match, even if you played the game from the alpha version, you can get owned in 1 second by some snobby spoiled little tw4t with a rich daddy's credit card. Don't even get me started on the crates in this game.

Items were purchased with GC (galaxy cash) or RP (robo points iirc), but you could not buy a million GC with your rich daddy's credit card to get the highest level stuff. Instead you needed tech points to unlock items, which were only available through playing the game. You unlocked items in the tech tree, in which cubes, weapons, wheels, electroplates etc. were unlocked level by level using tier tech points. These tech points are earned after every battle, and were unique to each tier. If your bot is T10 for example, you would earn T10 tech points, with which you were able to unlock a variety of T10 equipment, but nothing higher or lower. You could also convert these tech points to uber tech points (using GC) which could unlock every item from every tier. The tech tree was BALANCED. Why break a working, operational system? Are you really that money hungry, freejam? You should rename yourself to paidjam or gamblejam. Or "piece of ♥♥♥♥ inc." Keep hiding behind "early access" for it's such a good excuse when people point out what a terrible game you've made. I hate you.

RNG reward is painful. Recycle prices are way too low. It's too hard to get the parts you want. Balance issues. Matchmaking accuracy nosedived.

Despite an overwhelming negative response, FJ isn't going to budge. One update tanked an otherwise positively reviewed game.

Short version: you have to pay for having a full team and get matched with random pubs in order to bash them. This is a shame. It's against any possible fair play logic. A shameful milestone for Steam and online multiplayer games as well...

EDIT: they added a paywall contest too. Make food-looking bot. Sadly they already put all the colors we once had behind the usual paywall. This way you have to buy premium in order to get the chance to do anything that is not 4 monotone colors made...

EDIT: now they are organizing 5vs5 tournaments claiming they finally have a competitive scene... that would be fine if everyone had the same chances to play and train, but obviously it's not like that, since the so called paywall. unbelievable...

Best thing this game can teach is that spoiled kids have more chance than others. Great job...

Long version:
Besides the amazing sound and the perfectly fit graphic here is one of the many (and really, the most shameful one) reasons you should not play this game:

After 2 years of playing, hoping for the best and supporting the game for a while, in the usual attempt to "mimic moba" they have introduced a 5vs5 mode, but guess what:

In order to play in full team you have to pay. yes, you got it right. you have to pay for having a full team and stomp on random people, matched for you by their long term broken matchmaker.

They will come to you with any possible excuse like "we are cheaper than others" or "you need just 1 player to pay [for having the chance to stomp on pubs]", but in the end that's what all is about. They will also flood the forum with promises and projects they will not stick to, defended by a horde of kids that will spawn endless "stfu we are in alpha" messages.

It really sets a milestone in the multiplayer games. the most unfair one.

Back when games development wasn't purely based on greed we called this "pub bashing" and that was the lamest thing a team could do. In robocraft you can pay for bashing pubs, it's perfectly allowed and even promoted by the game itself.

It puts every kind of real cooperation, competition, strategy and fair multiplayer whatsoever behind a paywall.

The crate system was already a huge drawback for a game that proposed itself as an innovative building one. Turning it into a loot/gamble hell and removing any real decision on the items to buy with in-game points... if you don't want to wait for a couple of months of grinding for getting some (oh, you can of course rise the chances with real money...). But hey, there are people who like these kind of games, so whatever...

Now they reach the bottom. After the additional paying slot for platoons, they offer paying full team bashing.

Many things have been proposed by the community, like private servers and many suggestions have been made about fair games, custom games and tournaments but they got no clue of what fair and balanced gaming is about except for every possible way to get an income from that.

There are 2 ways:
1 make an amazing product that everyone loves, supports and buys. This was the original project.
2 put candies for kids behind a paywall. This is Freejam way.

If you had any hope about this company forget about it and move on.

Loot crate TRASH (looks like copy and paste with re-skin from other shooter games that have a randomized reward system) Also the game feels a bit cliché now.

FINAL PHRASE: THIS IS UTTERLY A DISAPPOINTMENT (WHOLE GAME).

This game was AWESOME when it first came out. I was spending time leveling up and having lods of fun while doing it. The first big update I remember is when they added new battle modes. I Loved the new battle modes and I spent even more time playing with every update. After 200 hours, I finally got to MEGABOT! The game was so fun after I got megabot. One day I opened up the game after an update. Basically it said, we are removing megabots and giving everyone who had megabots at that time about 2400 gc (can just buy a pile of crap). In addition to the bye bye to megabots, they decreased the amout of rp earned in a battle by like 90%. I just stopped playing then. I was angry, and the robocraft team got alot of complaints from me. Another update came along and I tried it. They took out all currency and replaced everything with crates you earn after a battle. This brought a little money balance back but the game still is not even close to as good as it once was. I just can't recommend it. It is ok right now but it was so extremely good at the beggining that it is horrible compared to what it used to be.

Tier 10, Megabots, tiers, 6 guns or like 5, meds were actually usefull and you needed them, and i could keep going on and on! You guys need to fix this! also i love how you give us free premium like thats GOING TO FIX EVERYTHING! If you are just starting out go ahead try it. This is all my opinion and you guys are completle different. I am not stopping you from buying this game but be awar of microtransactions!

Once upon a time this was a good... no GREAT game, I love to build, I loved everything about this game.... until their latest update. Epic loot is complete garbage... Why? you can play hours and get nothing for your efforts, you can get the best loot chest in the game, AND STILL GET CRAP LOOT! why not buy gear with robits? HA! that feature is no longer worth while, now there are 2 ways to get robits, sell the ♥♥♥♥ loot you get for minimal robits, or have other players buy the robots you make, yeah if you're lucky, plus you only get 25% robits from selling a robot. You can also buy the best chest with real money, only problem is... you still have a high chance to get nothing.

Premium is no longer worth it, instead of double robits and experience, you now get double the amount of crap loot and ooooooooo more colors to paint your ship, I ALREADY HAD ALL THE COLORS!!! now im stuck with 4. On top of every thing else, they had to add energy usage when using weapons, my favorite build was healing guns, now it's terrible, now I can't keep my team alive, oh and everyone can heal/repair. after 10 seconds of not taking damage, you rebuild yourself... now snipers rule the field... Why Freejam?... why?

If your game isnt making money, you shouldn't call it "free to play" nor should you change it, if it's not making money, it's not the games fault, it's yours.
