What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Robocraft has been built with a dedicated community of Robocrafters from the very beginning. The game's first release was in April 2013 and that buildhad no multiplayer and no combat. From that point to today, the game has grown exponentially to its full MMO state and whilst we still call it a 'Live Alpha' you will find it a very polished and fully featured experience.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Freejam are now plotting a path to full release with an aim to be out of Early Access at some point in 2017.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“While users accounts will never be reset - so what you earn in game now you will always keep - the full release of Robocraft will contain a number of additional key core features, many more social features, Clans, more game modes, many more functional components and weapons, a tutorial and PVE mode and full game localisation into many different languages.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“We call it 'Early Alpha' but we expect you to find it as polished and fully featured as most 'Beta' releases.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No, Robocraft will always be free-to-play and our prices won't change as a result of shifting from Early Access to a full release in future.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Freejam (the developer of Robocraft) has community in its blood. The word Freejam is a combination of 'free' and 'jam', where 'free' shows our dedication to keeping Robocraft always free, and 'jam' stands for jamming with our community to determine how our game continues to evolve. We like to think of Robocraft as a game that has been built from the ground up in collaboration with the community.”

Propellers Artbot Contest

Since we launched the Propellers Update last week, we’ve been blown away by your praise for them as well as the volume of high-quality propeller-based Robots already uploaded to the CRF. So with all this talk about Propellers in Robocraft, it’s only right that we should celebrate their addition to the game with an Artbot Competition.

This week we want to see your Robots that fit into one of the five categories listed below (the brief). All you need to do is build a suitable robot that fits into one of the five categories and upload it to the CRF (Community Robot Factory). We’ll then pick our favourite five and award some prizes. We’ll also make the ‘best in show’ a ‘Featured Robot’ too.

The Brief:
For this week’s competition, the brief is very straight forward; build a flying machine using at least one of the new Propeller parts that were recently added to Robocraft.

You can build whatever you like, but it must feature at least one propeller.

Submissions will be split into the following five categories:
  • Robots with 1 Propeller
  • Robots with 2 Propellers
  • Robots with 3 Propellers
  • Robots with 4 Propellers
  • Robots with 5+ Propellers
Remember to include the term ‘DB10’ at the start of your Robot’s title when uploading it to the CRF. The Robot description must include the category number eg: Cat 1, Cat 2 etc. Failure to include ‘DB10’ in the title and the category number in the description will result in your Robot being excluded from the competition.

The Prizes:
Five winners will be chosen; each will receive either one week of premium membership or 25 protonium crates (their choice). In addition to this, an overall winner’s robot will become a ‘Featured Robot’ in the CRF (Community Robot Factory).

The winner’s will be announced on a future Robostream.

The Rules:
  • Follow the brief
  • Submissions must be your own work
  • You can submit as many Robots as you like, however will only be eligible to win one prize
  • Competition period: Monday 16th January 2017 - 23:59 (UTC) Sunday 22nd January 2017
  • Entrants must design a Robot based on the given theme (the brief) during the competition period
  • The judges decision is final and correspondence will not be entered into over why one Robot was picked over another
  • Entrants must upload their robots to the CRF
  • Any submissions must include at least one propeller part
  • The term DB10 must be included at the beginning of the robot title when uploaded to the CRF
  • The submission category must be included in the Robot description
  • By entering the competition you grant Freejam permission to use your design in future promotional activity
  • HAVE FUN! (this is the most important rule)
