Note that the “Out of Power In” numbers are relative to a 1125 CPU robot. A 1750 robot has 25% more power and power regeneration. For example, a 1750 robot with max Leviathan’s will run out of power in 5.68 seconds (6.68 with a power module).


IMPROVEMENTS AND CHANGES:

> Components no longer need to be destroyed to deal damage to a robot. So a 98 CPU mech leg that has lost half its armor will only be considered as having 49 CPU of ‘health’ remaining for your health bar. This means that defense stacking with high-cost components instead of armor will be less effective

> Reduced the spread of the laser crosshair HUD element to better represent the weapon’s spread

> All game modes are now unlocked at player level 5

> Front-facing lasers now have a turning arc of 180 degrees

> The Power Module now increases power regeneration by 25% relative to existing power regeneration as per the CPU To Power changes. So regeneration will always be increased from 10 seconds to 8 seconds, but will represent more overall power at higher robot CPUs

> Improved camera relative controls for hovers while they’re upside down to stop them from jittering wildly

> Nominal counts are now referred to as “max” in in-game tooltips to better communicate the purpose of that value

> Max weapon counts (previously nominal) no longer have a slight benefit for going beyond them. Once you have as many weapons of a particular type as it’s max states, any more is purely for redundancy (having some left over in case they get shot off) and won’t benefit their damage output

> Added LOD meshes for several of the newer weapons and movement components to improve overall framerate

> The Proto-Seeker is being politely moved to a more appropriate position in the inventory. Right next to the LOML :)

> Modified text in various locations of the game to change “CPU” to “Robot CPU”

> Fixed a bug which caused movement components to be mirrored unevenly when placed directly onto the ground in edit mode

Incoming Balance and CPU Changes



Hi all,

An important change that is launching with this Thursday’s Aeroflak Sentinel update is the new link between ‘Power’ and ‘CPU’.

Power is the blue bar that appears around the crosshair in battle and is the resource that Weapons and Modules need to fire. This bar depletes when you fire your weapon and recharges at a constant rate. The Power Bar currently recharges from empty to full in 10 seconds.

This new feature links Power to CPU. Robots with high CPU will have more Power and a faster regen rate and Robots with low CPU will have less Power and a slower regen rate.


Some examples:

> At 500 CPU Robots will have 25% less maximum Power than before the update
> At 1125 CPU Robots will have the same maximum Power as they did before this update
> At 1750 CPU Robots will have 25% more maximum Power than before the update
The Power bar will always take 10 seconds to recharge from empty to maximum, but since the maximum Power depends on CPU, this effectively means Power regenerates 25% faster at 1750 CPU and 25% slower at 500 CPU.

The aim of this change is to help us balance weapon across the whole range of CPU from smallest to largest, and to help us prevent high Power consuming weapons from being overpowered in low CPU matches.

We believe this is a big change and we will be monitoring how it affects Robocraft carefully once it launches. Please give us your feedback on this change once it’s live on Thursday, via this thread. Be sure to make clear what CPU you’re playing at when you give feedback.


Other Balance Changes:

We are making a number of smaller, but significant balance changes along with this update.

> We have doubled the projectile velocity of Lasers (they were 4x slower than Rail, they are now 2x slower than Rail).

> We have decreased the spread on Laser Wasps (making them more accurate) by around 2x, and decreased the spread on Laser Leviathan by 20% with a linear interpolation of the spread on Lasers in between.

> We have reduced the Flak explosion radius against air by 15%, this radius is used for both the new ‘Sentinel’ and the Aeroflak Guardian (which is the new name for the Aeroflak Cannon).

> We have renamed ‘nominal’ to ‘maximum’ for all weapons to simplify the understanding of how many weapons you need to place to get the maximum fire-rate. We have also removed the ‘tail’ after the maximum, so adding more beyond this number will not give you anything extra aside from redundancy. We have also reduced the maximum number of weapons required to reach max fire-rate on a number of weapons to the kinds of numbers you might expect, for example 4 for Laser Disintegrator with any more than 4 giving you redundancy only. NB: the ‘tail’ only gave an additional 10% if you added an insane number of extra weapons (like 20 Disintegrators) so we felt it unnecessary to keep it in favour of providing more clarity on this for Crafters who want to get maximum efficiency out of their builds.

> We’re also exaggerating the difference between small and large Lasers. The larger Lasers are getting a significant damage boost but with a significant increase in their Power consumption, for example the Leviathan is getting a 100% damage boost (i.e. double) with a Power per shot increase taking time to run out of Power when trigger is held down from 20 seconds to 4 seconds (of course, if you’re using your Laser properly you’re probably not holding down the trigger 100% of the time, depending on range).

There are also other smaller changes coming in this Thursday’s update, which we’ll detail in our patch notes tomorrow.

They took the fun out of this game by making it harder to achieve items and more about getting money off microtransactions. I used to love this game but now its complete garbage. I do not recommend even downloading for free because the current state the game is in its waste of time to play, you'll end up playing countless days just to build a robot that will almost die instantly by people who are paying to win.

I've only started playing this game. So here's my feedback of 1-hour playtime (before it went down for Maintenance, which was ALL over it's Twitter account for an update, so I don't expect it to be a regular occurance).

The editting tool is great, SO EASY to build your own robot. Be it a Mech, Buggy or Tank. There are some really informative videos on editting tips and tricks too. Which is great as there is so little in game Tuition.

The Single Player arena, which is basically KILL X amount of Bots to unlock more stuff. Is a good way to test out the build before going PvP or Team Death Match. There is an XP system which allows you to increase your build size as you level up. The In-Game purchases are X amount of Random Content boxes which are available ingame anyway. So isnt play to win AT ALL. So in my eyes, it's great.

Hence - Build. Drive. Fight.

Robocraft is a creative game which involves constructing armed vehicles to fight down against enemy front lines in an online MOBA. The building mechanics are fluent and easy to use, and the gameplay enjoyable - easy for anyone used to FPS, and also easy for anyone used to more strategic combat style games.

The rewards system has recently taken a huge hit, making it harder for players to gain good high-end weaponry, which makes the game last longer, and gives the developers more room to add new content, which usually occurs on a monthly basis. This is why people have recently been posting negative reviews, because they see the new reward system as "cheap" and "unintuitive" for veteran users who are used to gaining high-end material almost every match.

Honestly, the game is indeed awesome. You build robots in any shape or form, which is already enough to enjoy. It's sort of a mix between League of Legends, Minecraft, War of Tanks, and Kerbal Space Program, all in one.

Still, they should change their slogan from "Build. Drive. Fight." to:

Build. Laugh. Explode.

10/10 would build suicide penguin again.

At first this game was fun (that is when there were no txs or whatever they were called and no healers(p.s. the healers r the only new ok thing)) now the game is ruined not understandable and has too much stuff. As a comparison its worse than Minecraft 1.9 which is the absolute worst.

TLDR I do not recommend this game, not even if you paid me to. Links in info, please look.

I recommended this game quite a while ago and honestly used to love it and support it. However, the game design has gone ways that are just unapealing, unchallanging and quite bothersome to me. I started playing this game because I like building robots, and at the time of me playing, it was the only game I knew about that was of this sort. However, as time went on, I saw other similar games, and I also saw good suggestions for robocraft, not get implemented in game, while bad suggestions and ideas did. Seb, one of the game devs seems to think our negative reviews are jokes, but this just shows you how seriously they take our criticism because its their game and they want to take it the way they want, the way that makes them the most money and scares off the most logical players and makes way for children who have fat wallets for GambleCraft 2.0 open your wallet addition. Well, now they are on damage control and posting fake apologies, but its a bit too little and a bit too late. Dont apologize, fix this game and revert far far back to when it was once a good game. I dont care about all the time you spent on it, you ruined it. You fix the game and you will fix the reviews by doing so. Until than, keep laughing freescam, but if you go out of buisness, dont expect me to not laugh because it was YOUR fault. I dont want you to fail, but you seem dead set on doing so. I love reading the recent reviews on steam about robocraft and you can easily see how pretty much all recent reviews are negative. The only reason the game still has an overal possitive rating is because the possitive reviews are years old by people who no longer play. I hope you devs have a fun time dealing with bankruptcy.

There are many bugs, imbalances, and seriously large pet peeves in this Robocraft game for me. You are very limited in what you can build, but other games have much more freedom that are also free. I have recently started playing Machine Craft on steam, I have screen shots of the bots I have made and come in contact with. You can build so complex and so large in that game its like using a megabot x100. You can even build transforming transformers. However, the skill cap is much higher, the game takes much more thought, and the community is much more mature. If this is what you are looking for, try machine craft if you like building. If you like a younger audiance and a very low skill cap, play robocraft. This is a link to Machine Craft. This game used to be fun. Now it's a money grabbing, gambling-orientated piece of ♥♥♥♥. No fun anymore the whole aspect has been replaced with grind. Just grind grind grind. Want to skip grind? Dish out a couple of thousand dollars to sit through hours of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ crate opening you can't skip to accumulate a few hundred thousand "robits" which is worth a couple of legendary plasma guns or SMGS. Only then may you reach the top and stay there for a couple of weeks before more dumb ♥♥♥♥ is added so you can grind and grind even more.

Just kidding, there is no top anymore. Back when the game had a purpose, which was you getting to the highest tier (TX-1) and unlocking everything step by step in the tech tree. Everything had a tier except cosmetics - weapons, cubes, thrusters, you name it. Each tier cube had a unique colour too. Black cubes was a symbol of respect, everyone followed you around and hid behind you since you could take the most damage, while purple cubes were not a symbol of respect. These days you can colour your whole bot in four ugly colours, white, grey, pale orange and pale blue. All of the nice colours are hidden away behind premium. Oh boy, premium! Just 99p a day! Who do you think I am, the prince of Nigeria?

If you had a T2 bot, you were matched fairly against players from your own tier. Even if you had T6 railguns, you were still put with players of the same level. What about today? Newbies and veteran players all get grabbed in handfuls and mashed together into a "match". Who pays the most for rocket launchers and legendary bull ♥♥♥♥ is the winner in every match, even if you played the game from the alpha version, you can get owned in 1 second by some snobby spoiled little tw4t with a rich daddy's credit card. Don't even get me started on the crates in this game.

Items were purchased with GC (galaxy cash) or RP (robo points iirc), but you could not buy a million GC with your rich daddy's credit card to get the highest level stuff. Instead you needed tech points to unlock items, which were only available through playing the game. You unlocked items in the tech tree, in which cubes, weapons, wheels, electroplates etc. were unlocked level by level using tier tech points. These tech points are earned after every battle, and were unique to each tier. If your bot is T10 for example, you would earn T10 tech points, with which you were able to unlock a variety of T10 equipment, but nothing higher or lower. You could also convert these tech points to uber tech points (using GC) which could unlock every item from every tier. The tech tree was BALANCED. Why break a working, operational system? Are you really that money hungry, freejam? You should rename yourself to paidjam or gamblejam. Or "piece of ♥♥♥♥ inc." Keep hiding behind "early access" for it's such a good excuse when people point out what a terrible game you've made. I hate you.

Short version: you have to pay for having a full team and get matched with random pubs in order to bash them. This is a shame. It's against any possible fair play logic. A shameful milestone for Steam and online multiplayer games as well...

EDIT: they added a paywall contest too. Make food-looking bot. Sadly they already put all the colors we once had behind the usual paywall. This way you have to buy premium in order to get the chance to do anything that is not 4 monotone colors made...

EDIT: now they are organizing 5vs5 tournaments claiming they finally have a competitive scene... that would be fine if everyone had the same chances to play and train, but obviously it's not like that, since the so called paywall. unbelievable...

Best thing this game can teach is that spoiled kids have more chance than others. Great job...

Long version:
Besides the amazing sound and the perfectly fit graphic here is one of the many (and really, the most shameful one) reasons you should not play this game:

After 2 years of playing, hoping for the best and supporting the game for a while, in the usual attempt to "mimic moba" they have introduced a 5vs5 mode, but guess what:

In order to play in full team you have to pay. yes, you got it right. you have to pay for having a full team and stomp on random people, matched for you by their long term broken matchmaker.

They will come to you with any possible excuse like "we are cheaper than others" or "you need just 1 player to pay [for having the chance to stomp on pubs]", but in the end that's what all is about. They will also flood the forum with promises and projects they will not stick to, defended by a horde of kids that will spawn endless "stfu we are in alpha" messages.

It really sets a milestone in the multiplayer games. the most unfair one.

Back when games development wasn't purely based on greed we called this "pub bashing" and that was the lamest thing a team could do. In robocraft you can pay for bashing pubs, it's perfectly allowed and even promoted by the game itself.

It puts every kind of real cooperation, competition, strategy and fair multiplayer whatsoever behind a paywall.

The crate system was already a huge drawback for a game that proposed itself as an innovative building one. Turning it into a loot/gamble hell and removing any real decision on the items to buy with in-game points... if you don't want to wait for a couple of months of grinding for getting some (oh, you can of course rise the chances with real money...). But hey, there are people who like these kind of games, so whatever...

Now they reach the bottom. After the additional paying slot for platoons, they offer paying full team bashing.

Many things have been proposed by the community, like private servers and many suggestions have been made about fair games, custom games and tournaments but they got no clue of what fair and balanced gaming is about except for every possible way to get an income from that.

There are 2 ways:
1 make an amazing product that everyone loves, supports and buys. This was the original project.
2 put candies for kids behind a paywall. This is Freejam way.

If you had any hope about this company forget about it and move on.

Used to be a very fun game that encouraged creativity with the simple and straightforward reward system. Playing a match = gain currency and experience. Be on winning team and play well = greater reward. It was simple and effective and there was absolutely no reason to change this.

I started the game up again a month after a horrendous update was released in which game mechanics were completely changed for the worse. The entire economy now relies on a crate system which slaps you with horrible RNG. I gave it a chance despite this and grinded my way to 400 kills on single player a few times for some sweet legendaries from the Protonium crates. Of course, my loot merely consisted of a few hundred basic blocks that could easily be obtained from the Rusty crates with much less effort anyway. Multiplayer wasn't any better. Even when you're the MVP of the match on a winning team, you don't get much better chance of any useful loot from the worst player on the losing team. Basically, progression in the game solely relies on RNG now.

tl;dr Was good, then became a p2w. Avoid unless you have a massive disposable income and are fine with a company trying to swindle you.

I got into this game a year or two ago. A genius idea it was back then. Near unlimited creativity, fun gameplay, a good community, low lag, yadda yadda yadda. That's all auxillary stuff. It's what makes a good game into a great game. But what about the essential stuff? It was all there, too, and in innovative fashions: a well-developed and balanced tech tree, specialization to create diverse teams, currency rewards based on how well you performed, quick and fair matchmaking, the list goes on and on. All of this was essential; you play well, you get currency, you upgrade your robot in the direction you want, and you go through the tiers, facing harder opponents as you go.

Ah, what I wouldn't give to go back to the days when this game wasn't a steaming pile of pay-to-win trash.

Creativity? Gone. Premade robots are the only real contenders now. Why is that?
Progression? Gone. Now you get a linear tech "tree" that unlocks without the tech points of before.
How do you get new parts, you ask? Why, with the currency of course!
...Except not the same currency.
Now you get a currency which is only granted to you based upon how many parts you sell. And how do you get these parts?
With the completely original and foolproof crate system, how else?
For just a single match, YOU can get a crate of at least five items that YOU didn't choose. Oh, not even that, though, since one is dangled in front of your face like a pet toy, essentially going, "You COULD have this, but you have to be a PREMIUM MEMBER!"
And there's the center of the problem. Membership.
Jesus H. Christ on ice skates, membership costs so much that you'll need to just start paying with your dignity. $1.99 a DAY. That's about $60 a month -- money that could EASILY buy you at least three retail games on sale, or a full-price title -- and about $725-730 a year.
You could buy at least 25 decent games with that kind of money.

Oh, but that's not even the half of it.
What do you get for your money? Well, you get:
-A color wheel (Did I mention you only get a whopping FOUR colors to choose from, if you're a normal member?)
-Some rare weapons in crates (that don't do nearly as much damage as they originally did)
-Instant access to the stronger weapons (I omit the word "tier" because there IS no tier system any more; little Johhny that just joined the game and threw together a gun on a car frame with no armor will go up against someone with 2,000 hours with a fully decked out air bomber. Funny thing is, if you get lucky, you can take down the "highest level" players with entry-level gear.)
-Some cosmetics and stuff that don't do anything

...I think you get the gist. It's not worth it.
So, in conclusion, it's a prime example of what happens when money goes to a dev team's head but they want to keep that "free to play" sticker on Steam so poor losers with nothing in their wallet can actually play something. Or, rather, suckers with too much money to spend waste it on their pay to win scheme. After all, winning feels good!

Oh, and did I mention it's buggy and laggy now?

TL:DR - Get it if you have nothing better to play. Otherwise, move on.

Back when i first started playing this, about 2 years ago, this game was actually pretty neat. It was 'Robocraft'. You build your bots, go into battle, get RP, buy more parts and improve your bot. You could go into a battle and see unique bots all over. Some sucked. Some were OP. Some were simply ridiculous.

Fast forward to now. With the CRF introduced, it's not so much Robocraft as it is Robo'copy-n-paste'. I see one awesome design in one match. Cool. Next match i see a similar design but with rearranged electroplates. Then i see one with different weapons. Suffice to say, people aren't as encouraged to build their own bots as they were pre-CRF. Still not that bad. I mean, they can copy the bots but i'm still building mine from scratch.

The addition of Flaks, and all updates henceforth, spelt the death of this game. Current state of the game? Build a tanky ground bot, or get rekt (buy big shotgun). Build a small and fast flyer that is capable of retreating easily, or get rekt (by big flak cannon). The number of 'viable' builds in the game has been greatly limited to giant ground tank, or small/fast flyer. No more flying tanks. No minimen. It's just, for lack of a better word, pathetic. Flaks just knock you down no matter how tanky your plane is. An easy fix for this would be if FreeJam did something sensible and, a) decreased flak firerate or b) decreased the damage. But it's FreeJam, when've they ever listened to player input? Thank god for FreeJam that the LOML (Lock-on Missile Launcher) isnt too bad after recent nerfs. Not even gonna get started on the shotgun.

INB4 "Make better bots you noob"
Fair point. Maybe i should make better bots. Now i just need more cu-- NOPE. In order to get cubes/weapons/parts, i'll need to head into battle. In order to get good stuff i need to place high up. To place high up, i'll need... oh no... a better bot!!11!?!?!?1? See where i'm going? With the old RP system, I could've easily gone into battle, farmed cash, then bought whatever i needed at the time. Now i play with a sh17b07, get low rank, then get more sh17 to place on sh17b07. Oh how do i get out of this loop? :c. By spending cash on the stacks of protonium boxes obviously (which i'll note, does not guarantee at least one decent item).

End of Review/Rant/Rantview - FreeJam needs help. Whatever they're trying, or tried, to make of this game is far out of sight, and can never be reached because they took the wrong train to crapland.

I may not be a super old or veteran player, but I feel entitled, as a paying costumer, to give my opinion about this game.

Bad design choices, bad design choices everywhere. I won't go super detailed as some old veterans, like Juvar23, so I will just quickly comment on why I stopped recommending this game to my friends:

The last update, Epic Loot, was a good idea. But they executed it in a manner that it feels like one of these mobile games with a life spam of 1-year or less, made to extract the biggest amount possible of money.

It's unrewarding, it's relentless, it's not fitting for a game with the premise of BUILDING things. The issue is, the mind behind Freejam, Mark Simmons, is too dellusional over his own work to admit it's flaws, effectively leading the game to disaster.

I can't stress this enough.

Robocraft is a money grabbing hellhole.


"But you have 300 hours in it!"
That was before it was ruined.(I'm looking at you Epic Loot)

I watched this game progress from one of my all time favorite games to being one of the top on my list of hated games. The other update, when they introduced the Epic Loot, I thought it was a good idea, so I launched Robocraft, what I saw made me lose faith in FreeJam ever becoming a decent developer studio. At this point it is focusing on keeping new players until they get into later tiers, and then telling them to either endure the increasing grind, or pay money for protonium crates(which aren't even guarenteed to get you what you want anyways!)

Once, I would've recommended this in a heartbeat to anyone that asked. Now? I say to avoid it like the plague.

I just hope FreeJam doesn't get any worse than it already is at this point.
