What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Robocraft has been built with a dedicated community of Robocrafters from the very beginning. It's first release was in April 2013 and had no multiplayer and no combat. From that point and to now the game has grown to it's full MMO state and whilst we still call it a 'Live Alpha' you will find it a very polished and fully featured experience.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect the game to remain in Early Access for at least the next 6 months after it's initial release on Steam. This way the Steam community can help to shape the game as the rest of the Robocraft community has so far.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“When Clan Battles, Tournaments, Megabots (players as bosses in Boss Battles vs. other users), plus integration of Steam Leaderboards and Steam Achievements.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“We call it 'Early Alpha' but we expect you to find it as polished and fully featured as most 'Beta' releases.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No, Robocraft will always be Free-to-play and our prices won't change as a result of shifting from Early Access to a full release in future.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Freejam (the developer of Robocraft) has community in it's blood. The work Freejam is a combination of 'Free' and 'Jam' where 'Free' shows our dedication to keeping Robocraft always Free and 'Jam' stands for 'Jamming'. We like to think of Robocraft as a game that has been built from the ground up with the community and 'Jamming' with the community is ingrained in everything we do.”

ELECTROMANIA IS HERE!

Yes, it’s now live, all 10 Electroplate shapes available in T10 with the new 10.X series EP!

NB: This also introduces the retired T1 EP shape at T10 called the T10.1.

ELECTROPLATE CHANGES

> Electroplates now Overclock SHIELD to 180% at OCL 13
> Recharge and Cooldown also remain Overclocked
> Electroplates now start off ‘uncharged’ when you respawn and when they are healed

Can you survive the early game to become a powerful offensive force for the late game push?
Will you be the first one to find the perfect EP build combination for ultimate late game toughness?

CLOCK CYCLE BOOSTER & CLOCK CYCLE GENERATOR

New improvements to the Tower gameplay to help you shine if you’re playing well.
Makes good robot design, getting kills and dying less all matter more.

> Capture the 2nd Fusion Tower to engage the Clock Cycle Booster
> Clock Cycle Booster multiplies the Clock Cycles you earn from Kills, Assist, Damage, etc.
> Capture the 3rd Tower to engage the Clock Cycle Generator
> Clock Cycle Generator gives passive Clock Cycles to your team when you own three or more towers
> Capturing Towers will award Clock Cycles to your entire team, but it will award proportionally more to those with higher Overclock Level

PROTONIVITY ESCALATOR & RESPAWN ESCALATOR

New improvements to the new game mode to ensure that games end in a reasonable time frame (i.e. 10-20 mins) and aim to make cheese tactics harder to pull off against skilled teams.

> Protonivity escalates as you own more Towers, so the more towers you own the more damage you do to Crystals
> BUT, the Protonivity bonus gained from owning Towers escalates as the game goes on
> SO, if you and your team Overclocks well in ‘early game’ and works to deny the enemy team Clock Cycles and then pushes at the right time in ‘late game’ your team should win
> In late game when you own 4 towers and your weapons are fully Overclocked you can deal as much as 800% damage to Protonium Crystal
> Respawn Escalator works like the Protonivity, i.e. the more towers you own the faster your team respawns
> In ‘early game’ the reduction is just 1 second per tower, but in late game it’s as much as 10 seconds per tower for your whole team

FUSION TOWER IMPROVEMENTS

Some changes to the look and shape of the Fusion Towers.

> Umbrella shield is now transparent so you can see enemies beneath them from above, and fliers above them from below
> Increased the aperture to make it easier for fliers to attack them from the sky
> Lowered the Crystal cluster so that you can keep an eye on the horizon whilst you are shooting the Crystals to see incoming enemies
> Reduced the width of the trunk for more visibility beyond the tower whilst you are shooting the Crystals

CLASSIC MODE GETS SOME LOVE

Listening to your feedback about Classic mode we’ve spent some time improving it.

> Classic Mode now starts of at Overclock Level 4
> So, your speed and damage vs. armor should be around as close as we can get it to how it was prior to the new game mode launch

CARBON-6 ARMOR & CARBON SERIES T10 SMG

New content for the Carbon 6 series.

> Carbon 6 matte black and orange armor cubes, available for both RP and GC
> New Carbon 6 letter cubes in both orange and black, also available for RP and GC
> New Carbon 6 ‘6’ cubes in both orange and black, also available for RP and GC
> All Carbon 6 armor cubes have T10 armor stats, so now you can look cool whilst you’re acting tough
> T10 Carbon 6 series SMG, this is GC only
> All of these automatically unlock and are available in the Depot when you unlock the equivalent cube on the Tech Tree

STEAM LOGIN & AUTO-REGISTRATION

We’ve added more support for Steam users so they can authenticate with Robocraft or create new accounts using via Steam ID.

> New users to Robocraft will be able to login without needing to register at our website if they launch through Steam.
> Existing users playing through Steam will be able to ‘link’ an existing account with their Steam ID allowing you to login with the click of a button and without username and password.
> NB: This uses Steam’s authentication API so we never receive any details about your Steam password etc.
> Linking your Steam account is totally optional so if you want to register with us, or login with your current username and password you still can.

OTHER AWESOME IMPROVEMENTS

A bunch of other awesome improvements trying to address some of the feedback we’ve received from players via the forums and other Robocraft social spaces.

> Plasma Damage now Overclocks to 160%
> Plasma Reload time reduces less to 80% (whereas previously it was 60%)
> Hoverblades now turn more consistently (fixed a bug making this very variable depending on how fast you were going forwards)
> Tank Track top speed reduced by 10%, max Overclock of speed also reduced by 10%
> Improved the reliability of tank tracks’ contact with the ground so they don’t snag as much.
> Rail Cannon starts ‘armed’ on respawn (correction from yesterday, it does not start armed after a heal – we could add that later, but didn’t this time)
> Volume Slider added for the Voice in the Settings screen
> Leave Game button added
> When a player goes AFK, the remaining team will spawn 10 seconds faster for each AFK’d player
> NB: We are adding new features to improve AFK. We’ll be adding a ‘surrender’ system, a ‘karma’ system to reward users who consistently finish battles, a new loading system to ensure nobody goes AFK during the load, and a ‘wait & reconnect’ system meaning users cannot start a new battle whilst an existing battle is still in progress (and can reconnect if their game crashs or they’re disconnected), that will all come in the next few weeks part by part
> Ally HUD and health bars are visible on screen at all times
> Health bars have been made wider and visually more clear so it’s easier to see who’s on low health
> Tier 1 now starts off with the Overclocker feature
> Tier 2 now starts off with the Fusion Shield active, and automatically de-activated at 3 mins into battle
> Tier 3 now has the full Fusion Tower gameplay
> TX-1 SMG damage reduced by 10%
> 800×600 resolution supported again

BUG FIXES

> Base added back into Challenge Mode and Megaboss Mode
> Fixed a major bug causing players to Overclock too much when killing players with a higher OCL
> Fixed a bug in Megaboss match-making so that Megabosses can fight more Robots at lower Tiers (vs. 10 x T7’s for example)
> Fixed a bug preventing players being able to shoot enemies inside their own shield with some weapons
> Fixed a bug causing Heal Assist, Spot and Scout bonuses not to be awarded after the first respawn
> Fixed a bug causing players not to connect to battles and see a ‘Connection Failed’ error message
> Fixed a bug resulting in users being sent to the wrong level when the battle starts
> Fixed a bug resulting in users failing to connect to the lobby and having to relog to get into battle

This game is basically everything I'd want as an eight year old who obessed over legos. It's got a really good system that transfers your designs into actual robots that work really well, even if it can be really annoying at times.

Not pay to win, shockingly. Yeah you can pay to get higher tier robots, but they're not necessarily better than the robots you'll be competing with. So it kind of balances itself. Same with Premium, yeah it makes you level faster, but the competition also gets tougher as you level up.

I'd recommend this game highly to anyone who enjoys a good game where they can make their real design dreams come true, I know it did for me.

I made a 6 story office building out of T1 bricks.
Put my seat and T2 hoverblades in it.
Who needs weapons?

It used 1300 pFLOPS.
But I was nearly invincible!

11/10 would do more office work

- Launch game.
- Start a match.
- Spawn underground.
- Get ♥♥♥♥♥ by a guy who has built a giant p*nis.
- Win/Lose again.

10/10 would get ♥♥♥♥♥ again.

Now with all the seriousness, it's really fun game, if you don't waste like 2 hours shooting at object that looks like a robot.
It's really a good game, go give it a shot.

As a well experienced player who gotten to T10, here is just a listed explanation summarising whether RoboCraft (RC) is for you:
PROS: (imo)

1 - Depending on tastes, will conclude how long will you be playing this game. RC is a relativly calm game with sparcly epic moments in between matches. If you desire more action rather than using your brain or just being relaxed - having more casual-orientated fun, will ultimatly decide if this game is for you.

2 - RC is a game that has more emphasis on creative (and somewhat more) strategic gameplay. The creative aspect is obiously building your own bot upon your desired taste with using the finitie resources that you have.

3 - 30% of victory chances will be dictated by the calibur of robots. 70% go towards teamwork - and how tactics are handled.

4 - RC has a great community, and will open its eyes to any player brand new player or otherwise. There is a fairly large variety of bots to build or inspire from. Going on websites like RC garage, Forums, Reddit or even YouTube, will make you become a better RC Engineer.

CONS: (again, imo)

1 - RC is grind heavy, when you need to build higher tier bots, so you will need to invest planty of time to get the most out of this product. This issue espacially arises during late game stages, when your in this situation that building lower tier Robots in quantity is far cheaper and more fun rather than doing weeks of grinding to get that desired fulltime-T10 other Robot.

2 - Though the game does counter this with the creative aspects, Robocraft still does not have a variety of game modes to choose from. You may have a large pool variety of robots to possibly spend the RP for, but you could feel that this game may need more maps or even items (cubes) on the cube depo.

And that is really it...

I would recommend this game overall, HOWEVER it has its gripes at the moment. The game is still under development, so some of this may change.

Caution: This review is filled with my OPINIONS of the game in its current state, take this review with a grain of salt before commenting that this review is just complaining.

The newest update COMPLETELY changed the game from a (very) unique one-life-per-match third person vehicle teamwork shooter, into a VERY unbalanced and broken unoriginal "MOBA" type of gameplay, which I feel has hurt the game severely.

The new matches last between 15-30 minutes and you cannot quit or surrender, unlike in the old mode where there were no respawns or stupid shields and matches lasted about 5 minutes and you could leave at any time, especially once you died, to join another match or modify your bot. The quick matches and short match queue was a unique feature that is no longer present, as the old mode still exists but there are few servers hosting this mode - making the queue time MUCH longer and making it not worth it. The current game version at this time is full of bugs and exploits, with certain items being very unbalanced in the new mode. The new META update seems to have not only changed the meta of the gameplay, but also of the exploits used to get ahead in this game.

TL;DR, used to be a great and unique game then new update broke it, completely changed it, and made it unoriginal. (Seems like almost every good game designer these days starts out with originality and later gives up and goes to the unoriginal and boring prefab game stereotype).

Robocraft is a constantly changing game were starmade and world of tanks feel like they had a child.

Pros:
+You get to build your own vehicle, making your immagination important to gameplay
+Game feels unique and unlike others
+Running requirments are low
+Any design choice can have benifits and drawbacks
+Weapons all feel different
+Many ways to move your design are offered
+Maps feel a bit unique
+No pay to win issues
+Frequent updates

Cons:
-Electro plates tend to feel a bit unbalanced in gameplay
-Armour block heavy designs tend to die faster than what you would think (in my opinion)
-SMG's have been nerfed to the point were they dont feel like they can get the job done now
-Some of the game modes feel rather unbalanced
-Medics determine the out come of matches a little too heavily
-Game balance seams to change faster than you can adapt your design at times
-Premium account needed inorder to make rapid progress
-Requires comitment to feel fun, do to frequent game changes

Final thoughts:
This is a good game, don't get me wrong. Its just that there seams to often be a lack of sustaned game balance. One day, something is added and seams to make designs invulnerable, and the very next day, the opposite is true. There is often no middle ground. All that said, I still like this game. The unique and original feel helps here. Overal, this game deserves a 8.5/10.

I used to love this game, until they removed a ton of key parts, destroying everyone's current setup and narrowing the build possibilities until you started seeing all the same sort of brick house vehicles or tiny orbital snipers and then they threw some shady looking 3rd party anti-cheat system in that you need to install and that just put me off entirely.

Used to be a pretty fun free lego style deathmatch derby very similar to Nuts and Bolts, but I have no idea what they're doing with it now. Looks like that mode has fallen to the wayside with the introduction of this Moba stuff. Ehh, It was great at one point, maybe it could be again. I'm uninstalling for now myself.

Many people have said the new gamemode ruined the game as a whole as it encourages no teamwork. But I beg to differ: sure during the early game, everyone is trying to shoot each other with only five second respawns - which is quite understandable - but when you get to the higher OC level, respawns are longer making players think about their actions as much as if they were just in the old gamemode. And the towers serve as a pivot to where you launch attacks from and use them strategically to get in a wave of spawns and vice versa preventing the enemy from spawning in for as long as possibe.

The shields definitely was a different mechanic where it endorses players to take the towers to stop the enemy from retreating and to prevent protonium bombing due to the enemy having a distinct advantage due to heals and short respawn times in the early game.

Now for my opinion. This game is, as what I learned, quite an addicting game giving the player to explore the giant possibilities of creating what ever the heck they want, and eventualy find their niche on what type of vehicle they like the most; I prefer heavy bombers. And that is what makes games fun.

And the balance is very methodical as the tier system dictates what type of things you could have at a given time within the rank. You could have powerful weapons, but sacrafice getting one shotted due to you having to use T1 blocks in a T3 environment. And that gives the player the freedom to go to what tiers they want to play in when reaching a higher rank. Of course you cannont immediately jump in and reach TX-1 due to level caps and grinding.

When you start everything is, technically, available to you needing tech points to unlock. But there isn't a mean of "buying" tech points or cash as the devs have done an amazing job keeping it that way, and the only thing you can buy are pure cosmetics or pre-built bots. So everyone is on the same boat.

And you can still play the old gamemode, by the way.

[Clocked 50 hours, within a week]

Robocraft. Craft a Robo. Its a robo craft. Well, more like 'Rover craft' but what kind of rover has scorpion legs?

It's a good game, so addictive. Creativity is endless, just like it is in space, where we all live and thrive - and kick butt. Love it.

(I have actually clocked over 50 hours on this game - I was loading the game through a previous installation, before i installed it through steam)

A Very Good Game and I would definately recommend this to anyone who loves creating war machines. The level of creativity is mind-blowing and with so many objects and weapons to build with, no wonder I am hooked on this game. Apart from just Battling, you can test out your contraption and complete challenges. The one goal is to become the top and create a 'Megabot' ( Shown as TX-1 ). This game is certainly one of the best games I have played, and I hope you agree with me too.
