As of update 20:
Well guys you can imagine the pure excitement when I heard that the dinosaurs in the game were getting redone, as previously in the game... they sucked. The latest update made it so the dinosaurs patrol around the island instead of just clumped up in one area, which is nice but the dinosaur walking often looks clunky and unpolished, sometimes even skating rather than walking.
The dinosaurs also run faster now which is nice but also burdensome as some of them have yet to be able to handle their new speed and what I mean by that is the dinosaurs have a tendeicy to move to an area to attack a person IF you have moved from that area they will sit there for a bit before trying to attack you... this makes it MASSIVLEY easy to avoid their attacks as you can merely walk left/right and they won't even hit you.
Health now does not regenerate and requires you to use bandages to replenish it, which is good and adds somewhat of a survival element to the game. The patrolling dinos are a nice addition as well, as there is now an actual sense of danger of running into something unfriendly when out and about; even though you can simply jump into some water/ zig zag and kill whatever dino with your crossbow.
There is crafting and building in the game but it is all very shallow and basic, and even though there are dinos wandering about it is still very easy to gather materials, as most of the dinos you can avoid easily. The environment is the same old same old and will get boring quickly.
I would be giving this game a thumbs up right now if it wasn't for one thing: glitches.
The "health gain" system is glitchy as many items that are supposed to restore your health, do not always do so, while sometimes they do. Some of the newer food item do not cook (which is required for consumption), even though they are supposed to.
The tribal system (a sort of "guild" system, were you can team up with your friends) requires you to make a Steam Group in able to use....a Steam Group guys....really?
Big dinos (when shot at least with a sniper gun) will twerk spaz out into oblivion and become unlootable when shot with a gun-based weapon which can be VERY frustrating. Also T-Rex do not drop T-Rex teeth (which is used to make specific clothes), which is annoying.
Also if you're playing on a private server (which you likely will as the only two dedicated servers will probably be packed with abandoned/unused/half finished buildings) there's a HUGE chance that the server will crash and often time reset your data which is probably one of the most annoying things to ever happen period.
The developers...well... to describe the developers they are TOUCHY as Hell. Updates are often choppy as Hell, making playing the game afterword’s a struggle as lag, graphic and even SOUND issues are always present (which also means that your data will be erased AGAIN due to the developers having to fix the patch they just released). Also forget about posting on the forums, because unless your question is praise or about gameplay, the developers will often delete it (why I have no clue, but it is extremely sketchy).
Is there a game here? YES there is, but all the content feels more of a game that was JUST released to Steam Early Access, rather than a game that has been out for almost a year. It also has that "Stomping Lands" vibe...y'know... the feeling that the developers are going to quit on the game project and you'll be out of your promised game/money? Yah It's got that vibe.
I must admit that the game is going in a better direction than before, with dinosaurs roaming around the island and not having your health regenerate.
On a scale of 1 to 10 I rate this game a 4 out of 10. basic gameplay features, touchy/sloppy developers make this game in it's current state "meh" at best.
