What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We are developing this game together with our community. Your feedback, your critics, your suggestions are what drives this game forward. In the last weeks this game had over 11 patches and more than 17 hot-fixes (July 2014). Our community helps us to make the game we all want to have. This is what Early Access is truely about - making a game together with the community.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are aiming for an early access phase not longer than 6 months. However the game will stay in the alpha state until you guys think it's ready.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will be based on players input from the early access phase. Right now we designed and build the game-mechanics how we think it would be cool - but maybe it isn't or the community comes up with some amazing feature requests like they already did in the past.

The full version will also have a turret system, different biomes, more wildlife and community-approved game-mechanics.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“While the game runs stable and contains already a lot of polished game-play this game is still unfinished so there might be still bugs, annoyances, unfinished game-mechanics, unbalanced weapons/structures, unbalanced dinosaurs, GUI bugs, servers might go up and down a lot, multiple patches in a single day.

We are actively working on the game and we will supply different types of servers so you can play without our work interfering with your game-play but please do not expect a perfect game. We also tend to change things, try out mechanics, remove them again - if you are not enjoying forging the game just wait, in a few months this game will come out.

Update Nov/2014
In our community there are quite a few people with more than hundreds of hours playtime so we believe the game is already in a very enjoyable state.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes! Once the game is fully released the price will represent the final state of the game. Right now we are selling this game at a discounted price, without any pay-to-win scheme, without a monthly subscription.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We would like to fully integrate our community into the development process. Important game-play/game-mechanics decisions should be community-based. Also on future updates we would like to know what the community prefers us to work on.

The past 15 updates have been made based on community feedback.”

Hotfix for GFX issues applied.

Hello everyone,
after yesterdays patch i received a few reports about graphic issues. I applied a Hotfix today that solves this. Also todays Hotfix allows you to recapture a base as the owner of the base which will set all structures again to yours (if it got raided previously).

I have to say that i enjoyed reviewing this alot. Its jurrasic park, but with a Rust like effect. The crafting is very cool and one of a kind so far. The only thing that is kind of agrivating is the TAB then acess the items you have. or the split option gets buged while at the crafting table. easy fix is walking away to reset it. The dinosaurs always sound so close but they are just far and huge stomping beast, this keeps you on your feet. Tried to say hi to a trex ..didnt work out too well. Overall for a Alpha build this game has alot going for it and always great playing with freinds who love making dinosaurs their ♥♥♥♥♥es... can i say that here.... JUST DID hehe guys get this game and live the adventure that awaits you inside.

Ok, so I have owned the game for 3 days now and I have 27.4 hours on record already. The crafting menu is fantastic, the game play is reasonable, the graphics are not bad. I have yelled several times while playing due to the creepy canibals, and have had my heart about pop out of my chest while running from a T-Rex. It is a great spin on a survival game without it being an apocalypse full of zombies. My only complaint at this point is there are some bugs/glitches which I hope are being worked on. The major one is in local play I get invisable raptors that stealth kill me. We are in update 19 so the developers are supporting thier product and as a patron that is all we can ask for. If you like open world, survival, sandbox games it is definately worth checking out. Because of the glitches and bugs might be best to grab it while on steam sale. At this point I rate it 6/10.

this game is an awsome play on the sandbox genre, and the devs keep up on the updates which is a plus for any early access game. while it does have some drawbacks in the community and the "single player" (i.e. local server) can feel empty of any dinos besides the ones that appear from over the hill and you have that "oh s***" moment when all you have is the stone axe, this game is a great play though i havent logged as many hours on it as most im continually finding myself going back to this. the graphics are amazing and like i said the oh s*** moment add a how am i going to survive with a man i just collected all this. The online play can be a bit trying as i spent 10 hrs nonconsectivly colloting enough resorces to build a decent base and as soon as i place a claim land flag a screaming naked player runs from the tree ignors my knife and kills me losing all those resources in the process. all i can say is awsome work devs keep it up although more dinos on local and public servers. more. dinos. if my world produces another spinosaurus im going to somehow build a cave and never leave.

As far as Early Release titles go, this one has a solid start and is actually playable for at least 24 hours of game play minimum. Moving base locations and trying various servers can increase play time from there.

To fully understand what is going on and what to do, I do recommend reviewing some guides on harvesting and building. The dinosaurs are a nice change from the mutant/zombie insurge in survival games, but there is much work to be done on the AI of the dinosaurs and the canabals/native tribes when they attack. The AI is easily defeated, once you have a ranged weapon. Melee is broke, as attacks from behind still yield a counter attack and damage to the player.

The dev team seems well engaged and has a nice roadmap to release many new things, including adding more dinosaur types, by June 11th or so :)

Holy Creatious Period! This is one of the best survival games out there! I was just playing and i was traveling accross a huge feild gathering raw stone and wood logs from trees when i look up and see on a plain ahead of me a T-rex! I screamed my lungs out and took a screenshot of it then i crouched. Turns out there was a herd of them! HOLY CRAP!!! As they went on their way, i see a person. I walk up to him looking for his name. Next thing i know im under attack. First instinct is to hack at him with my hatchet and i kill him and get some things like ammo and ore! 12/10 ADD OCEAN DINOS TOO!

This game provides plenty of survival fun. There is a constant threat of being killed by something; dinosuars, other players even turrets on bases. This intially causes a problem to get going, but being persistant you can get past that. Just keep you eyes open for anything which doesn't fit in with the mountains or the trees and if it's not a rock, keep clear. Doing that means you can build a starting little house. From there the game opens up to what you can do. Build a big base, kill some big dino's or go raiding those guys that killed you the moment you wallked by them.

I don't have that much time in game yet but so far I can say its very exciting and I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND it, partially to support this game and its developers. This game has a lot of promise and potential which it already shows. I really haven't run into hackers compared to other early access games.

The idea of the game is amazing! Dinos, crafting, building, survival, HUGE tropical island, and much more.

Of course there will be bugs and that is a given, its early access after all. I will update my review after further playing but the crafting is nice so far. I would say BUY IT, SUPPORT the dev team, and lets hope they keep updating and never abandon this game.

to be continued...

UPDATE 8February2015 ------------------------------------------------------------------

I found a couple of bugs which I said before I was expecting due to early access and "in development".

However, the crafting is done very nicely. You can craft a bunch of basic items to get your base started, but then you need a crafting table to go further. Note: once you have a crafting table you make make another crafting table (just haven't done that yet, and don't know what options it gives you). You can mine trees, ores and stones (that also give you some ores). The ores you find will be undefined, hence putting them in the crafting table will discover them for you, be it gold, iron, etc... You can also build a furnace which will refine those ores for you into gold bars, iron bars etc, which you need to craft better defenses and items. The fact this game has OIL is awesome, because you need to build a refinery to have power for your light towers and other buildings. The pretty much free choice of building whatever you want is amazing, because you can make your base and defend it which ever way you want.

There is so much more I could write about this game but my opinion from purchase day one hasn't changed. I still RECOMMEND this game and say if you think about buying it, BUT IT.

Bugs: Climbing down your guard tower can be weird at times. I sometimes get dragged into between my furnace and wall and get stuck lol. The weapon mechanics and fighting can definitely be improved.

All in all though, if you like some deep crafting, base buildings, dinosaurs, the danger of other players and exploring. Then this game is for you :)
