What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We are developing this game together with our community. Your feedback, your critics, your suggestions are what drives this game forward. In the last weeks this game had over 11 patches and more than 17 hot-fixes (July 2014). Our community helps us to make the game we all want to have. This is what Early Access is truely about - making a game together with the community.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are aiming for an early access phase not longer than 6 months. However the game will stay in the alpha state until you guys think it's ready.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will be based on players input from the early access phase. Right now we designed and build the game-mechanics how we think it would be cool - but maybe it isn't or the community comes up with some amazing feature requests like they already did in the past.

The full version will also have a turret system, different biomes, more wildlife and community-approved game-mechanics.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“While the game runs stable and contains already a lot of polished game-play this game is still unfinished so there might be still bugs, annoyances, unfinished game-mechanics, unbalanced weapons/structures, unbalanced dinosaurs, GUI bugs, servers might go up and down a lot, multiple patches in a single day.

We are actively working on the game and we will supply different types of servers so you can play without our work interfering with your game-play but please do not expect a perfect game. We also tend to change things, try out mechanics, remove them again - if you are not enjoying forging the game just wait, in a few months this game will come out.

Update Nov/2014
In our community there are quite a few people with more than hundreds of hours playtime so we believe the game is already in a very enjoyable state.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes! Once the game is fully released the price will represent the final state of the game. Right now we are selling this game at a discounted price, without any pay-to-win scheme, without a monthly subscription.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We would like to fully integrate our community into the development process. Important game-play/game-mechanics decisions should be community-based. Also on future updates we would like to know what the community prefers us to work on.

The past 15 updates have been made based on community feedback.”

Update 20 - The Ankylosaurus - Colin from JurassicPark:Aftermath joins!

In this patch we are introducing the Ankylosaurus. This dinosaur was previously created for the Stomping Land, we are happy about Vlad's involvement in Beasts of Prey as the quality of the models speak for them-self. To animate them we hired Kiko from Borderlands/Star Wars:The old republic to give the model some tripple AAA look and feel. The engine got updated to the latest Unity 5 version which is now officially released. In addition to that DirectX 11 is back on Windows while MAC / Linux versions now still work fine with DirectX11 features enabled on Windows Builds. Turrets in the game no longer react only on range, but will change target based on what they can "see". Also their view-range has been increased making raids much harder. To further improve this palisades now cause damage when standing on top of them.

The day/night cycle got adjusted to bring you some extra light during the night and to improve the graphics which are now based on direct light, ambient light and reflection light. The rendering-mode has been switch from forward to deferred which results in a better performance with multiple light sources around. In addition to these changes several bugs you reported have been fixed.

We are happy to announce that Colin from the Jurassic Park:Aftermath Project has joined us to create a new map for Beasts of Prey. Within the next weeks we will update you on this progress. With Vlad we already have a very talented 3D Artist, last week we talked to Robert Fabiani who also is very talented to create the Stegosaurus for us. With Vlad, Robert, Colin and Kiko on-board we have now a stunning team that is able to deliver AAA models, animations and game-worlds.

Patch Notes :
- Ankylosaurus has been added to the game.
- Updated client & server to the latest unity engine.
- Optimized client to improve performance slightly.
- Adjust day/night cycle and graphic effects.
- The night is now slightly brighter on close range but darker on the far.
- Turrets now take line of sight into account, no longer just aiming at the closest target.

- Palisades now cause damage when walking/standing on them.

- Fixed a bug in the main menu.

Hotfix for GFX issues applied.

Hello everyone,
after yesterdays patch i received a few reports about graphic issues. I applied a Hotfix today that solves this. Also todays Hotfix allows you to recapture a base as the owner of the base which will set all structures again to yours (if it got raided previously).

About This Game

Beasts of Prey is a survival sandbox game. Danger lurks everywhere and will make your struggle for survival tough. Carnivorous beasts may be lying in wait behind every tree and waiting to make you their prey.

You are starting out without anything but your combat knife and you'll have to regain access to modern technologies through gathering resources, crafting items, building structures like houses, defenses, factories and by conquering and defending resource hotspots. You can build outposts & bases, conquer them - or destroy them.

Claim land, forge alliances, defend or conquer valuable resource spots. All your actions have an impact in this dynamic game-world, your actions matter – you can help a fellow player who is attacked by dinosaurs, or use him for targeting practice and steal his belongings. Reputation matters! In Beasts of Prey you have to choose your character name once and it cannot be changed, allowing friends and foes to react on your actions.

Features :
- Smart AI that will wander around in the game-world, hunt players and fight other dinosaurs and cannibals!
- Complex crafting system including multiple tiers. You need to build furnaces, crafting tables, gather resources, smelt ores, CNC Tables and much more to gain access to all items. 100% of the items are player-crafted! From armor to weapons, from food to tools.
- Complex building system allowing you to construct houses, walls, towers, RADAR Towers to get a mini-map, defenses like turrets and much more!
- Skill System that allows you to improve your survival, gathering and crafting abilities.
- Armor & Weapons Crafting system. Construct pistols, rifles, snipers, melee weapons.
- Strong PvP and Capturing System allowing you to siege and conquer outposts.
- Beautiful graphics. Rich jungle world including Roaming birds & dinosaurs etc.
- Gather wood and stone, harvest oil by building oil pumps and towers, build your own mining drills to automate gathering.
- Everything built can be conquered or destroyed. Defend bases or conquer them.
- Massive Dinosaurs will hunt the weak! Be on your guard!
- Lock-pick doors and chests to steal from your enemies by crafting shivs and lock-picks.
- Build headquarters with your friends or clan-mates, Tents and beds to have a spawn point.
- Build pre-designed houses and structures or craft your own modular home.
- Tribes System to allow you to play and build together with your friends.
- In-game VoIP System, communicate naturally with your friends and foes.
- Play either alone on your local server or with friends on both private and official servers.

The game is heavily influenced by our community. Make suggestions on the the forums, give us your feedback! During the last 6 months (November 2014) the game received multiple make-overs, more than 17 major updates and over 50 smaller patches.

Have you ever welded barbed wire to a metal rod, rubbed it in poison oak, and then preceeded to place it into your butt. No, no worries buy this game and in twenty minutes you will know the feeling.

Jokes aside:

Very terribly made dinosaurs
Very bad AI (Cannibals teleport, and can hit you from 30 feet away without even swinging at you)
Only 3 dinosaurs
By far worst control scheme i have ever seen
Very Highly over priced
Completely unclear gameplay (Crafting makes zero sense and at one point i got lost while trying to smelt an iron ingot)

Totally not worth it, overpriced for what it is and the developers took about 6 months to add a single new dinosaur instead of fixing the countless problems with this game. I couldnt look you in the face and say that this game was worth it and still live with myself.

I still have high hopes for this game. This has been the only dinosaur hunting game I have kept returning to.

Though Updates are only so often I really hope you guys don't give up on this project.
The world needs a good dinosaur game and I think this could be it if the right updates are made.

I have been enjoying it so far but more building options, weapons and dinosaurs would be fantastic!

Keep it up!

Although it has issues and glitches, i am completely assured that a game like this has a lot of potential and one day will be a great success. Although now there are cannibals that teleport, tyrannasaurs that can walk through mountains, and not the friendliest people on the PvP servers, someday this will be an amazing game, besides, most of these minor bugs are ejoyable.

When your getting this game your investing in an idea a concept. This game isn't done and and its far from it.But what i can tell you are the positives and negatives.

+The game has lush scenery
+The building mechanical system is great
+The de community is very nice
+The dinsaurs skin texture is very good

-The dinosuars only spawn in certain places
-The main server is very laggy
-Some people on the game spam bad music through there mics, you can't mute them
-The game gets very dark at night,Hope they add a flash light

I recommend this game as it is still being made.Just note you are investing in an idea. You are not buying a complete game, you are buying a work in progress

Amazing game, truely good fun for anyone who would enjoy walking with dinosours.

The good: Dinos! Variety of Dinos, crafting from primal upwards to current tech is very welcome. Lighting and day night cylce is very very nice. I am a big fan of the moonlight shimmer of the t-rex skin as you see him walking in the valley below you or in the jungle. Very nice.

The bad: Dinos need some work yet.
1. Pathing is broken badly, all you have to do is go up a hill and you safe and sound from all dinos and cavemen.
2. Get in a building and your safe, NPC's cant get you and wont damage the building
3. Weather doesnt exist
4. Few obvious items don't exist/work in game yet like armor or food.
5. Ragdoll, rather funny to watch
6. Cavemen spawn points seem to ensure dinos are always dead when a dino gets too near to the spawn.

What's left: The game is alpha so naturally their are pollish problems, half implemented features, bugs bugs bugs and the usual which you expect from an alpha.

So far, one of the best games I've ever got! Ive seen videos on when it first came out i thought it looked horrible. But ever since that, this game made so much progress that i had to buy it! It has made so much progress and way more to come too! The developer works very hard running the whole game by himself along with model makers and such, it just has so much hard work put into it. The forum is the friendliest community i had ever been to online and they answer all your questions in a nice manner no matter how simple they are. Back to the game though, people give this game bad reviews even though it is just perfect!

the price matches the content you obtain. this game has had much work done upon initial release and it has features that remind me of games like Landmark, Unturned, The Stomping Land, and a few others, it lacks very little and just need continuous work in the next year or so, this game is already entertaining and it will only become more so.

my overall score would be a 80/100 (8/10 because most dont like the wider scaling)

just lacks a bit more finesse on certain aspects however it is a great game none the less and i cant wait to see the finished product.

Ok, I've played about 5 hours now as of this post and I must say, being able to play solo/local game is the best feature ever for a survival game. It's giving me a chance to learn how to play instead of loading in and with 2 hours running around like other games and boom dead.. wasted 2 hours and didn't get anything done, this game I have a partial fort build already and I've died once. Took on some cannibals without a real weapon, so had it coming. IF the devs don't abandon this game like one of the other early access games I played, it has the potential to be an amazing game.

Dear people who write bad reviews,
You are extremely stupid, inconsiderate and should go eat dirt because first of all, this game is an EARLY ACCESS game. Meaning it is a proof of concept, in-development game that is being released to you so you can test it while they make it. Second of all, shut up, they made it further than you in any form of game making. Think you can do better? Please prove it. If you can, I'll buy your game. Also, stop nagging at the price, it is reasonable for the time being. They need some of the money to go into equipment and even paying some employees (if any). Once again, if you think you can do better, please do, the community would like to see.

This game is amazing and has LOADS of potential. I can't wait to see more. Sure, there are bugs here and there and some odd concepts added in as well. But, they still tried, and if you don't like it, leave! They are doing great and deserve respect.

Goodluck with further development mates! Can't wait for updates!

Cheers, DoomZire1 - an indie and early access supporter

One of those Tortoise like dinasaurs (With the armoured back and bulb on the end of it's tail!) walked by me as I hid in the shade of some palm trees (If it was possible it didn't see me...Did-You-Think-It-Saw-Us :P)

I was able to do this, because I heard these heavy foot steps that almost shook the ground before it could be seen at all.

So I ran for the trees in hopes of not being found.

This was wonderful and I really liked.

I still have problem with these games that are getting so close to realism with their detail and graphics, yet your expected to beleive that you can carry alot of resource like logs, rocks, a work bench, a wooden chest, a few wooedn walls, a wooed post, and a flit axe and pick in want evr magical container they expect me to beleive.

That much resource would need to be placed some where after you have harvested it. I was carrying just over 50 logs and less rocks without even a horse drawn wagon.

YOu should be able to build a resource dump that you would need to go back and fourth between your havesting.

Building anything really big would be encumbering and hand full with out some thing. How about a the need to build a self drawn wooden platform on wheels (Not suire where those would come from....) to carry resource and the heavier , larger stuff I/you've made. Itherwise, you wreally just need to drop it.

Can't make Planks with a mills and don't know where you would get one of those without having provied before hand.

Can't spin wool without a loom. Although I have never got so far yet to that point without making more clothing for myself.

Why is my avatar walking aroiung in his bower shorts any way.

Is this training exercise in Jurrasic Park?

I was kiled by two native zombies before i got further.

I used to play RUST with the assumption that the Strtrek crew while in close communication with me while folloing me around in close orbit in they're U.S.S. Enterprise. They were responcible for all the resources I took as I ran around almost fuly nude. Thne they would process the matrails as I requested them to be made in into wooden walls and doors ways or just prefab log cabins, work benches, wooden box containers, oven/stoves and beamthem donw to the locations I wouldn't them to be built before I had my own survival/industrial infrastructure. While the Star Trek crew still allowed me to use theire ship to carry any surplus materials, tools, weapons I made. Beaiming them down to me in my had anytime I needed them.

No, I just trying to get it to make more sense to me. Yet, I can't just keep thinking this way. and would like this part of the game (And other like it!) developed more!

Keep up the good work, this game is looking much better now.

the game isnt bad early access and all my only complaints and yea there are a few #1 my flag vanished along with the contents of the chest are now gone and its happened a few times #2 the cannibal's hit range is utterly disgusting im 60 yards away and taking damage from them thats nonsense. #3 no birds to kill i wanna be able to shot and kill a pterodactyl other then that the over all game play is awesome i love the game just a few bugs that need fixing not like it matters but i rate it 8/10

As of update 20:

Well guys you can imagine the pure excitement when I heard that the dinosaurs in the game were getting redone, as previously in the game... they sucked. The latest update made it so the dinosaurs patrol around the island instead of just clumped up in one area, which is nice but the dinosaur walking often looks clunky and unpolished, sometimes even skating rather than walking.

The dinosaurs also run faster now which is nice but also burdensome as some of them have yet to be able to handle their new speed and what I mean by that is the dinosaurs have a tendeicy to move to an area to attack a person IF you have moved from that area they will sit there for a bit before trying to attack you... this makes it MASSIVLEY easy to avoid their attacks as you can merely walk left/right and they won't even hit you.

Health now does not regenerate and requires you to use bandages to replenish it, which is good and adds somewhat of a survival element to the game. The patrolling dinos are a nice addition as well, as there is now an actual sense of danger of running into something unfriendly when out and about; even though you can simply jump into some water/ zig zag and kill whatever dino with your crossbow.

There is crafting and building in the game but it is all very shallow and basic, and even though there are dinos wandering about it is still very easy to gather materials, as most of the dinos you can avoid easily. The environment is the same old same old and will get boring quickly.

I would be giving this game a thumbs up right now if it wasn't for one thing: glitches.

The "health gain" system is glitchy as many items that are supposed to restore your health, do not always do so, while sometimes they do. Some of the newer food item do not cook (which is required for consumption), even though they are supposed to.

The tribal system (a sort of "guild" system, were you can team up with your friends) requires you to make a Steam Group in able to use....a Steam Group guys....really?

Big dinos (when shot at least with a sniper gun) will twerk spaz out into oblivion and become unlootable when shot with a gun-based weapon which can be VERY frustrating. Also T-Rex do not drop T-Rex teeth (which is used to make specific clothes), which is annoying.

Also if you're playing on a private server (which you likely will as the only two dedicated servers will probably be packed with abandoned/unused/half finished buildings) there's a HUGE chance that the server will crash and often time reset your data which is probably one of the most annoying things to ever happen period.

The developers...well... to describe the developers they are TOUCHY as Hell. Updates are often choppy as Hell, making playing the game afterword’s a struggle as lag, graphic and even SOUND issues are always present (which also means that your data will be erased AGAIN due to the developers having to fix the patch they just released). Also forget about posting on the forums, because unless your question is praise or about gameplay, the developers will often delete it (why I have no clue, but it is extremely sketchy).

Is there a game here? YES there is, but all the content feels more of a game that was JUST released to Steam Early Access, rather than a game that has been out for almost a year. It also has that "Stomping Lands" vibe...y'know... the feeling that the developers are going to quit on the game project and you'll be out of your promised game/money? Yah It's got that vibe.

I must admit that the game is going in a better direction than before, with dinosaurs roaming around the island and not having your health regenerate.

On a scale of 1 to 10 I rate this game a 4 out of 10. basic gameplay features, touchy/sloppy developers make this game in it's current state "meh" at best.
