What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We are developing this game together with our community. Your feedback, your critics, your suggestions are what drives this game forward. In the last weeks this game had over 11 patches and more than 17 hot-fixes (July 2014). Our community helps us to make the game we all want to have. This is what Early Access is truely about - making a game together with the community.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are aiming for an early access phase not longer than 6 months. However the game will stay in the alpha state until you guys think it's ready.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will be based on players input from the early access phase. Right now we designed and build the game-mechanics how we think it would be cool - but maybe it isn't or the community comes up with some amazing feature requests like they already did in the past.

The full version will also have a turret system, different biomes, more wildlife and community-approved game-mechanics.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“While the game runs stable and contains already a lot of polished game-play this game is still unfinished so there might be still bugs, annoyances, unfinished game-mechanics, unbalanced weapons/structures, unbalanced dinosaurs, GUI bugs, servers might go up and down a lot, multiple patches in a single day.

We are actively working on the game and we will supply different types of servers so you can play without our work interfering with your game-play but please do not expect a perfect game. We also tend to change things, try out mechanics, remove them again - if you are not enjoying forging the game just wait, in a few months this game will come out.

Update Nov/2014
In our community there are quite a few people with more than hundreds of hours playtime so we believe the game is already in a very enjoyable state.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes! Once the game is fully released the price will represent the final state of the game. Right now we are selling this game at a discounted price, without any pay-to-win scheme, without a monthly subscription.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We would like to fully integrate our community into the development process. Important game-play/game-mechanics decisions should be community-based. Also on future updates we would like to know what the community prefers us to work on.

The past 15 updates have been made based on community feedback.”

This game has come a longgg way from when i first got this. the gameplay is very fun, graphics are excellent, and since theres been updates, patches,it keeps me wanting to come back for more to see what else i can build and explore. The developer DOES listen to peoples request and fixes things as he gets reports of problems existing ingame and community. So far ive built many big fortresses and many other things available in the working tables to craft . Now that theres a newer Unity build coming with a newer map...i cant wait to get into rebuilding and exploring everything once again. Love this game soo addicting!!!! Great work Burnz and all who appreciate his work, to the trolls who got banned and are writing bad reviews beacuase of it..its your loss cause its only words in my book, bad reviews from people who got caught and banned shouldnt even have the right to leave a review.

I adore this game, it sets itself apart for being a small community with a small dev team that work their asses off. I have seen this game evolve from March this year untill now with good and bad parts. Thankfully the bad parts have been resolved and looking very forward to the future, like the Unity 5 upgrade!

Like many Alpha games out there ♥♥♥♥ will happen and bugs will crawl over your keyboard, the active communication of the Devz with their players resolves these issues very fast.

But overall , I have the utmost respect for Burnz, the hours, the commitment, and the fast hotfixes or bans if i report something makes me really feel am involved in the making, shaping and upholding the game.

For me Early Alpha games on steam is a means to support the game with a small fee, and i have no regret at all doing so for BOP. Ofcourse the game aint perfect yet, show me one that is. But ill be here every step of the way!

Slight comment on bad reviews that have been posted. Since the communication between players and the Devz is daily! There is no chance in fiddling with 3rd party programs like CheatEngine and getting away with it. I recall a couple of you that have posted bad reviews and i even remember telling one of you to Burnz personally.

To wrap it up, i fully recommend this game even in Alpha state.

If your unsure go look @ some Youtube video's or my highlights on Your also more then welcome to add me to steam to ask any Question you have regarding BoP. All i wish is that people make their own opinions of the game instead of reading a text book rant from others.

The game is still in development, so I'll hold off on an actual review of the game until its finished.

What I can review is the process.
If you're really interested in watching a game develop, provide input to the developer that actually gets read and responded to, or are just interested in exploring a world populated with dinosaurs and cannibals, you should check it out.

Stop by the forum and see whats going on.

Or Check out one of the 1,000 odd posts from the developer.

Personally I am fascinated by the process and have acted as volunteer forum moderator for the last six months to help keep the conversations civil and on track. I have faith in the developer and really look forward to seeing where this project goes.

First of all: This is a great game.
The immersion of dinosaurs and semi-modern technology is a nice touch, Outstanding scenery with great lighting and next to no lag at all.

It's a little hard to grasp what you need to do when you start the game for the first time, but you pick things up pretty quickly.

Could do with a little less jump scares (damn that screaming cannibal!)
Spawning can get irritating if you die alot.
Caniibal tribes could be a little less frequent. (being able to spin in a circle and see 5 tribes is a little ridiculous)

Overall for an Alpha game it's not that bad, Actively recieving updates to gameplay, additional items, creatures, things to do while also actively recieving bug fixes, Alot of in-game content is community based and anyone can submit something they would like to see in game.

as a rating for the game at present

Gameplay: 6/10 (it feels klunky early on)
Graphics: 9/10 (10/10 is reserved for reality)
Reliability: 10/10 (the game runs extremely smooth)

Side note: baby dinosaur pets!

Great game (well the idea of the game is), been getting better with every update (NO, it hasn't at all). really good value for money(not). has the potential to be a winner in it's class(i doubt it, dev's are begging people to write good review's, see the discussions)

I hope the review uis helpful dev's as your going to need all the help you can get, if you do not pull your fingers out with this one

There is far to many games on steam that are getting released as early access, only never to get finished or delivered not as promised. I think this maybe another to add to that pile. I hope not, but it seems very likely

Overall this game is wonderful. I only have two problems 1: I accidently change my fire 1 to another thing, I was making the primary controls WASD but accidenlty went into the fire 1 one, and when i tried to change it back, it wouldnt do it. (one reason might be cause i have a wireless mouse). the second is I got trapped today, in PVE (in Sector E-295 N 130) and I cant get out to actually play the game :(. but besides that the current rating is 100000/10. (if the things at least get noticed) it would be 1000000000000000/10

Early Access Review
First off, a PSA: If you intend to spend any time in Early Access, do yourself a favor and understand what development progress looks like, and the risks involved; this is software that is neither feature-complete, nor bug free. It may or may not be fun to play, and you can expect gameplay interruptions due to problems or incomplete features. You need to be willing to work with the developer(s), not against them. Play the game, try things, and document; devs need to know about something to fix it. Don't expect polish or completeness. You're buying an unfinished game to have the privilege of shaping the end product. If that isn’t something that interests you, avoid Early Access in general.

On that note, take some of the negative reviews with a grain of salt; the anti-cheat system is quite functional, and cheaters/hackers have been getting banned and leaving bad reviews. It’s sad that it’s an issue at all, but it bodes well for the integrity of the game going forward.

As for the game itself, it has a lot of potential concept wise; persistent progression and world building, building up a technology base while surrounded by cannibals and dinosaurs, and other player groups that can raid for resources. The devs provide an MMO style server, or you can host your own with just your friends if you aren’t afraid of reading documentation.

Graphics wise, it looks quite nice, with the lighting, modeling, and textures all quite solid. The animations/posing leave a great deal to be desired, but overall it looks nice, and the ugly/rough bits are the exception rather than the rule. Smaller bits will surely get polished as development continues. The GUI is hideous as of this review, though the dev has been talking about overhauling it.
I’d put graphics below average compared to release games
Graphics above average compared to other early access titles.

The gameplay is not self explanatory in at all, but once you look up how to play, things work out pretty well. The resource system is well considered, and you have to work to claw your way up the tech tree, but it’s still within reason. The spawn system for NPCs feels really off while playing with a small number of players. Gameplay is rough, it’s crude, but it’s there and I like what I see.

As for bugs, there’s plenty of minor issues, but the only game breaking things I’ve encountered have to do with persistence issues, and sometimes spawning into the ground. If you don’t shut down the game correctly, expect to screw up your save; it’s even more finicky if you host for friends. Logging out on a hill may put you in the ground. The dev is doing a good job of keeping up on bugfixes as features are added. The game is certainly playable as is, and I look forward to continued progress on updates.

If the concept sounds fun and the PSA didn’t dissuade you, then by all means give it a try. If you’re a little nervous, follow and check back in a few more versions.

This game is so addictive. Just make sure to get to a place that's not a point where people spawn, guard or teams have occupied. That way you should be safe.

This early alpha is enjoyable in is current state, and with improvements, it will be one of the better games I know of.

This game had a rough start, but the developers soldiered on in spite of everything. This game barely resembles what I bought on day one (all positive now where I had it uninstalled for a long time). I highly recommend to pay these devs - and get a copy of their game - for their hard work and never giving up. A lot of developers flap their jaws and never get anything done. These guys got the job done big time. I resinstalled when I saw there was a new update and am floored at how great the game looks now. First game I've seen that uses Unity 5 and the graphics are amazing. Looking forward to spending more time with this game. I'm so impressed with what they have done that this is the first review I've done in a couple of years. Maybe later I'll do another review that actually talks about the game. For now, one of the best developers on steam.

I am really enjoying the game with 4 friends atm.
Its a step learning curve but anyone from games like Rust wont have any issues. If you have a friend that plays, your learning will be much easier. Otherwise there is a good basic guide in Steam to get you started.

I have been playing for less than a week but even in early access Im really enjoying it. Once youve mastered the basics, get a base up and running, harvested a heap of materials and then crafted yourself weapons and tools, then you can focus on raiding other players bases, hunting dinosaurs or getting even more materials to build your base into a massive fortress.

I think the fun factor increases with the more ppl you play with. Not that you couldnt play solo and still kick ar$e.

Yes a few bugs and glitches in early access but overall the experience has been terrific.
The future is going to be awesome indeed.
