What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We are developing this game together with our community. Your feedback, your critics, your suggestions are what drives this game forward. In the last weeks this game had over 11 patches and more than 17 hot-fixes (July 2014). Our community helps us to make the game we all want to have. This is what Early Access is truely about - making a game together with the community.”

How long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are aiming for an early access phase not longer than 6 months. It's planned to reach Beta-State in October 2014, however the game will stay in the alpha state until you guys think it's ready.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will be based on players input from the early access phase. Right now we designed and build the game-mechanics how we think it would be cool - but maybe it isn't or the community comes up with some amazing feature requests like they already did in the past.

The full version will also have a turret system, different biomes, more wildlife and community-approved game-mechanics.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“While the game runs stable and contains already a lot of polished game-play this game is still unfinished so there might be still bugs, annoyances, unfinished game-mechanics, unbalanced weapons/structures, unbalanced dinosaurs, GUI bugs, servers might go up and down a lot, multiple patches in a single day. We are actively working on the game and we will supply different types of servers so you can play without our work interfering with your game-play but please do not expect a perfect game. We also tend to change things, try out mechanics, remove them again - if you are not enjoying forging the game just wait, in a few months this game will come out.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes! Once the game is fully released the price will represent the final state of the game. Right now we are selling this game at a discounted price, without any pay-to-win scheme, without a monthly subscription.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We would like to fully integrate our community into the development process. Important game-play/game-mechanics decisions should be community-based. Also on future updates we would like to know what the community prefers us to work on.”

Patch 15 - BoP the Builder!

In this patch we are introducing a new building system to the game. Old structures have been removed and replaced by new ones. The new construction system is based on Pillars and based on how and where you placed them you will have different construction options. The new system allows you to create much cooler structures, give you more freedom and possibilities and also allows you to preview these options and see the structure how it will look like before actually building it. Within the next weeks we will add even more structures to this new system and give you more possibilities to update your construction elements. The gathering system also has been revised and balanced to give more importance to the "where do i build?" factor. Before it simply did not matter too much where you placed your base since you got all resources pretty much everywhere - this now changed. While you still receive some ores from the dynamic spawns the chance to actually gain ore is much lower. Instead, you should look for the new static stone-spawns that have a much higher chance of giving ore.

Patch Notes:
- Dinosaurs will no longer run through walls.
- Removed old wooden structures from the game.
- Rewrote the construction/building system.
- Added a preview system that allows you to preview your construction options while in build-mode.

- Added static stone spawns to the game that have an increased drop-chance for ore.
- Several constructions have their building requirements adjusted.
- Rocket Launcher has been temporarily disabled in order to balance it next patch.
- Turret has its range increased.
- Timer on flags has been increased to 60 seconds by public request.
- Size of dynamic stone spawns has been decreased.
- Physics of dynamic stone spawns have been updated.

Update 14 - You naughty Egg-Thiefs! (AI & PvP Patch)

In this patch Beasts of Prey receives a fully reworked AI for the dinosaurs and some additional game-mechanics for PvP. The AI has been upgraded to make the game-world more immerse and fun, Dinosaurs started to hunt in packs, roam through the game-world and no longer run into each other or run through your walls.

Additionally to these upgrades the flag system has been changed to a capture & hold system. You can now capture land by capturing other players land. When you capture a flag all buildings in it's area will be yours. Doors, Gates, Tents and Turrets will be yours, personal items like the metal safe & beds will not change ownership but can be destroyed or picked up (just like before). You can now also destroy foundations with flags again - so in the end it's your choice to either conquer an outpost or destroying it!

Changes:
- Improved overall performance yet again.
- Reworked AI to be aware of structures & buildings.
- Reworked AI to be aware of other NPCs.
- Added new pathing to AI.
- The island slightly changed, some terrain has been altered to improve the overall quality of the game-world.
- Added some additional textures to the game-world.
- Added parallax effects on terrain shader.
- Added more roaming birds.
- Adjusted total amount of trees to slightly improve performance and game-world design.
- RADAR now shows different icons for friendly and hostile players.
- RADAR now shows dinosaurs.
- RADAR now shows resources on the map.
- RADAR now shows flags on the map.
- Flags can now be captured. All structures in it's area will change ownership with the exception of the metal safe.
- Based on your skills you can only build a maximum of 5 flags in an area, however you can have more than 5 flags by capturing other players outposts.
- Skills Expert Builder 1 and Expert Builder 2 are now working as intended.
- Eggs are more rare.
- Dinosaurs will remain much longer in the game-world. Even after you stole the egg.
- The Spinosaurus has been (re-)added to the game.
- Fixed loot-drops on dinosaurs. After killing the inventory should open once you are close to its head.

Well the videos are very misleading.

1. good luck placing a table that easy (more like hunt for a spot that will let you place one)
2. The through walls and flying glitch (funny they said it was fixed months ago and now since they cant seem to get it right
anyone using either one is banned from the game until they can figure it out if ever)
3. inventory glitches all the time.
4. rocks disapear before you are done mining.
5. advanced table glitches all the time and you have to relog half the time to fix it.
6. bullets disapear on relog so dont bother making any (unless you plan on using all of them before you log off)
7. dinosaurs walk through walls and into bases.
8. updates are much further apart now as if the dev team has fallen apart (dont let these fake forum mods tell you that
good things take time all some of us wanted was a few glicthes fixed and they have had MONTHS for some of the simple things that they continue to fail fix)

This isnt even all the problems and some of these problems have been going on for many months.
They have attemped to fix many of these in several patches and failed. If you look at the past patch notes etc you will see what i mean.

I could go on for days with all the problems in this game including how you have to actually hunt to find another person playing this. The game used to have very positive reviews and i played over 100 hours of it and lovced it. They have ruined this game and everything that was ever good about it.

After X zombie survival games, here we go with dinosaurs. Even though its a really recent alpha (05/06/2014), and glitches apart its really fun and stable enough. The crafting system is well developped along nice graphics for a sandbox-like game. From the basic stone axe and a tent to survive you'll end up building an epic town, organized with armories, vehicles...etc. Create a tribe, conquer lands, attack players towns or make alliances and help each other. Really fun.

Whats more, the dev team is really active and working hard spending time reading suggestions and answering on forums.

Just waiting to be able to rent decent servers to start the dino madness.

Not necessarly a must but definitely worth a try.

Just 100% garbage, it's virtually impossible to host your own game that allows friends to join, there's no sound settings at all you have to adjust through windows mixer. If you want to play with your friends you have to go on one of the 2 official servers they have which theres claimed land every 6 steps, or you can play on a private server which you don't know when will be offline so you can't play or will just never come back on again.

The menu UI is pretty crappy, gameplay is alright I suppose, I didn't get too far into it because of the wasted time trying to set up a server to play with friends frustrated me into uninstalling this, if they fix the issue I'll give it another try.

I stumbled across this game while browsing the featured games section and after a few days of thinking bought it. Its honestly a great purchase although some people may not agree with me. Its a fun game I mean it looks great and the dinos have pack behaviors which is awesome. Sure it has bugs and glitches but what can you expect from a early access game? They pump out large updates fairly often and make lots of patches. I was having trouble with a glitch so I posted it in the disscussions and it was answered quickly and answered well. Basically if your not sure just wait for it to go on sale but I highly recomend you purchase it. 12/10

Kinda hard to play, especially at first and with such a low gamer count to ask for help from. Looks fairly good, but the combat could definitely use some touching up and streamlining.

Hi m9's this review is to show that beast's of prey is life/love, I have gotten killed by every dinosaur in the book it's great..And if that's not enough i have a super computer and im locked on 3 - 30 frames per second. And if dinosaurs arnt enough look forward to being slashed with a knife or a axe oh yeah and Also turrets. Players like teaming on nubs js. ♥♥♥♥ty Textures that make you want to vomit. un-climbable mountains. Gysers that look ugly and are useless. You can melt a rock with a knife, Don't forget you get logs falling from up above when chopping down a tree, and also 3 logs.. To Sum it up : Everything Killz You: Turrets also shoot through rocks. Im bear grills and i can't even. People Are derped with broken necks when prone. Crouching makes you look like a demon... I H8 LIFE.. Also don't forget the quick scope feature on the axe.And axes can breaK DOWN METAL FENCES BUT NOT WOOD THINGS WHUT? yeah you heard me garbage. You cannot drop your items for your friends the option comes up but you can't..There are skills that dont work either.Don't Forget the extremely hard to find crafting button. A hungerbar that just resets upon depletion.I find it hard to breathe when playing this game. I have no friends since all had heart attacks when playing this game. many jump scares. No friendly dinosaurs, Not even VEGANS.

This is a great game with active developers. I personally have supported this game for a while and have even ran my own dedicated server. The updates are constant, The developers listen, and it breaks the mold of the traditional Zombie survival game. I Highly recommend this game to anyone looking for something fun, fresh, and new.

TLDR: Has potential. Solid starting point. Needs more lively content and some faster travel methods.

built one house and it was good.

built a second house half-merged through the first house. it was good.

built a third house slanted inside the first and second, trapping one friend inside. Proceeded to kill another of my friends, warping him to his bed, trapped in a second compartment of the house mess. Watch as they both are forced to hack down the first and third houses in order to escape. 10/10 would grief my friends.

bursting with potential. the dev. team seems to listen to players and server owners somewhat through update comments and emails. updates occur frequently enough. i can hang tight for this game to finish before i get too carried away with constructing my bases. it's fun for now but some of these updates can be imperfect and cause other issues. then you have to wait for the next update to fix stuff that the last update caused. or wipe my server and start fresh? trelel.. anywho, i give it 2 thumbs up: 8/10 (typical) early-access experience. 9/10 potential to be a really satisfying survival game once development is completed.

I would not buy the game agian if I could go back in time and not buy it. The crafting system and everything in general is very here just figure it out your self. I was getting fps spikes here and there just on a 20 person map with only 2 other people online. But the worst dam thing of all is I couldnt figure out how to craft ♥♥♥♥ besides the first like 6 things. I see a million huge houses and all this cool stuff but here is my stone axe.... coooooooooooooooooooool, I guess this will sit in the section of Well it might be cool when its done?! I'll check back in a year...
