Face of Mankind is a sandbox game about a potential future, far removed from human civilization as we know it. Evolve your character to its ultimate potential, whether that is the accumulation of wealth, power, social status, or all three, and watch the effects of your actions ripple throughout the universe.

Latest patch notes (VOIP has been implemented)

With the most recent patches we have done some balancing and implemented VOIP!

+ Increased the damage of all long rifles and grenades by roughly 40%.
+ Increased the territory lockdown timer to 36 hours.
+ Increased the world-service takeover cooldown to 36 hours.
+ Increased the range of VOIP.

- Fixed a bug that would occasionally cause strange voice artifacts.
- Fixed a bug that would cause players to receive the "already logged in" error for an extended period of time.
- Fixed a bug that would cause turrets to be deleted from apartments on server restarts.

Patch (VOIP):
+ In an effort to correctly tweak and balance it, we've implemented VOIP for general chat. You may configure and disable VOIP in your audio settings, and a push to talk key has been added to the game (default Y). An icon will appear above the head of any player that is broadcasting, and the mute feature extends to VOIP as well.

Patch (Upgraded Sound Libraries):
* We've upgraded the OpenAL library used by the game to prepare for the addition of VOIP. If you encounter any issues with sounds after this patch, please let us know!

+ Increased the base ammunition of all magazines by roughly 50%.
+ Reduced the weight of the standard and light armor sets.
+ Increased the fall-off range for weapon damage. This has the effect of letting bullets travel further, but slowly decreasing the damage done outside of their "effective range".
+ Increased the amount of damage done by stun weapons.

Face of Mankind Roleplay Changes

Hello Community & Beyond,

This game has gone through many transitions in what type of game it will be, and during that time frame it lost what its core aspect was; role play.

Many of the features you currently see in the game were dreamed by some of the oldest veterans - content was delivered to accommodate those nostalgic requests and due to the game losing its role play light, has not been utilized to its full potential yet.

In an effort to promote these new features to the fullest extent, we will be putting all staff focus on role play. Lots of time has been spent in combat and how to better accommodate combat & battles; we have not put much emphasis in promoting the best aspects of this game. Moving forward, we will be making the following changes;

Mechanic Changes
In-game voice communication
Necars Field or DMC will be a high-yielding Penalty Point prison (whichever is harder to get out of)
Arresting will be limited to the LED, with some minor abilities to FDC (to be decided)
Interface bug fixes
Drop the requirement of creating a custom faction to 5 players
Caveat: There will be strict activity requirements for these factions to be maintained.
Methods for factions to advertise globally in-game (to be decided)
Disable global chat
Alternatively only have a colony chat
Resolve patcher slowness (to be decided)
Strict requirement of role play names (first/last)

Website/Forum Changes
Remove 99% of the forums, leave only a general discussion, roleplay and bug/patch-related forums.
We will have a ZERO TOLERANCE rule on anyone who flames and does not have constructive posts.
This will help encourage factions to create their own sites/forums.
Put a strong emphasis to the role play features we provide on the front website.

Furthermore, both the LED and FDC will be staff-controlled at the highest level, with players as the high command of each. This will help ensure the non-existence of corruption and promote positive role play. We will iron what the plans are with both of these factions in a different thread; however, we are looking to restore some of the old school departments such as DPI for training. We'd ultimately /like/ new players to join LED or FDC first to get their initial training into the game, then decide how they want to proceed after this.

We will be putting some effort into marketing the game to various role play communities in other games, and help get the word spread outside of steam and normal means of MMO advertising. In reality, most role play players are looking for one of a few things:

Drug Dealers
Weapons Dealers

We cater to all of these in various methods and so much more. There are thousands of communities out there in other games that are imitating a fraction of the features we offer in Face of Mankind - we plan to tap into those communities.

I will further note, that role play will be something the staff is going to help enforce, without abuse. We will not tolerate people purposely or deliberately trying to destroy a players role play attempt for self gratification. This is NOT an FPS.

================================================== ============================

To touch a little bit on some of the role play ideas we have, I will detail some below - please keep in mind these are quick notes straight from a document I created with everything.

Senate ideas:
The goal of this would be to establish a colonial senate, consisting of the default 8 faction leaders. The faction leaders should be encouraged to help maintain the integrity of roleplay and continuance of making the game fun for everyone. Factions outside of these do not have to adhere to any ruling the senate makes, however, are punishable by dominion law for not doing so. This includes any faction that does not adhere to something that was agreed on by majority.

Various laws can be negotiated by the senate and then ratified into dominion law through the president. (we should have some default laws that can never be altered, however, to maintain integrity of a police force, i.e.: weapons on earth, drugs, etc)

Senate meetings to be done via in-game voice only? (this would require options to mute everyone but senators)
- Having this would allow us to twitch.tv or stream it for people who can't be in-game (good for marketing too)
- This would require all senators have microphones and willing to communicate that way

LED DPI Training Ideas:
DPI 101:
Should be the entry course into the game and LED, explanation of all the default factions and how to perform various things within the game.
Should only contain minor information leading them to stay with the LED. We should maintain this training course to ensure the player knows how to play the game so they do not get lost or frustrated on not knowing what to do.

DPI 102:
Should be the secondary course given after 101, however, this is more catered to the LED. Full explanation of what the LED is/does, how laws are maintained and the various departments within the LED.

DPI 103:
Should consist of doing actual patrols, minor combat training, and performing basic functions of various departments so they can decide what path they wantnto take.

"Intermediate Combat" - this should be exclusively for combat training, showing how to use various weapons and tools when in combat. We should also dive into performance boosters and various other things to make someone better at combat and arresting.

"Expert Combat" - this will also be exclusive for combat training, however, it will include information and training down to the very smallest details on how to perform well in combat. (Requirement of an elite department in the future?)
Each department that is joinable by anyone should have their own additional course that is required (but not guaranteed) for entry into that given department.
This will help ensure they know the ins and outs before becoming apart of it.

President ideas:
This position will forever be the same name, however, can be maintained by multiple people. Should be visible at every senate meeting, as well as the single point of pushing new laws into affect. This should not be a character that is seen just walking around, and should only be visible if serving a purpose to roleplay. Should always be heavily guarded by the FDC.

Short-Long term ideas:

Phone app that shows (because it would help people stay connected to the game!):
Character stats
Colony overview (ownership, contest, etc)
Faction chat!!
In-game mails

Facebook/steam integration (not sure if this is ever possible)
This is to make complete registration easier, people also like to use same login for everything

Allow factions to build their own sites and include information about their faction on their page through an API
Create a website/page that allows people to search characters(?)

“That's when I knew that a game like Face of Mankind, even with its older graphics engine and intense bursts of combat followed by hours and hours of crafting, was a perfect example of why I love my job. It defines what an MMO is, something that we MMO fans need during these days of press releases that make you ask, "So, does anyone know whether this is an MMO or not?"”

“The long and short of it is that you’re actually going to feel like you’re a part of something that matters. Which is kind of awesome.”

Welcome to Face of Mankind!

Face of Mankind: Fall of the Dominion is a game about a potential future, far removed from human civilization as we know it. Driven by memories of violence, overcrowding and a depletion of all natural resources, mankind has left Earth to seek out remote locations among the stars to begin anew. All across the galaxy colonies were built, connected through a series of gates referred to as the Vortex Network. From its seat of power in Manhattan, a single government known only as the Dominion controlled all of humanity.

Now the Dominion has fallen and anarchy is soon to spread across the stars. New empires will rise and fall, blood will be spilt, and men will be broken. What you do with power is your choice to make; your destiny is yours and yours alone to define. Create your own faction and make your mark on the galaxy.

How will you shape life after the Dominion?

YOU, the player, are in control

Anything is possible in the galaxy of Face of Mankind: Fall of the Dominion, and it is up to you, the player, to decide how you want to play.. Every action you take will impact someone, somewhere, in some way. Evolve your character to its ultimate potential, whether that is the accumulation of wealth, power, social status, or all three, in the realistic and futuristic world of FoTD, set forth in the 24th+ century.

Here are some basic scenarios that have occurred in the past with real players.

-> You are a criminal working to undermine the police from within. You spend a month working your way up through the ranks of the Law Enforcement Department while gaining the trust of everyone around you. However, you are secretly manipulating the faction members and attempting to destroy it internally, starting a coup.

-> You are a member of one of the largest corporations in the game, and that corporation owns half of the territory in the galaxy. You have a monopoly on all of the resources, and enemies do hourly attacks on your colonies in an attempt to capture them back.

-> You have just joined the game and know nothing about it. You pull out your gun and kill someone, trying to figure out how to play. That man is a leader of an enemy faction, and you have just started a war that will shake the very foundation of the game.

O tej grze

In Face of Mankind, the gameplay mechanics are all based around the principle of player interaction, and is almost exclusively player driven.

1. Open Faction System: Our game is built around player interaction with a strong toolset for players to organize themselves. Any player can create their own faction, and from there the world is theirs to explore.

Players can be given ranks by higher ranking players in the faction, giving them access to more administrative tools and abilities.

There are also player-run departments within these factions in which players can be organized based upon their role in the faction. Some factions might have tactical departments and departments dedicated to production, while others may have departments dedicated to selling drugs or extortion.

2. No Grinding: While player progression is important, any system that forces players to mindlessly repeat the same task for hours is out of the question. Our game features a time-based skill system, which allows you to simply select the skill you want to progress and continue to play while it progresses.

3. No Classes: Face of Mankind features a broad skill system, rather than a very vertical one. This means that everything you progress is defined purely by your own interests, without any mechanically defined role telling you what to do. Theoretically, you could even have every skill in the game if you play long enough.

4. Player-driven Economy: Get immersed in the vast economy of Face of Mankind, complete with its own virtual currency called Universal Credits (also known as "UC" by the community). The economy bends to the will of the players, with all that they do defining the pricing and availability of items. Most items in the game are crafted by players and then auctioned or sold to others. The economy of Face of Mankind is that which would be expected in a living, breathing, virtual universe.

5. Open PvP/Active Combat System: Not wanting to conform to what everything else on the market is, our core combat system is that of a twitch-based first/third person shooter. Few places in the universe are safe, but we have systems in place to allow users some level of protection. Place a bounty on them if you feel wronged, and someone is sure to exact your sweet sweet revenge.

6. Persistent Universe: Our universe is vast, ready for the players to conquer. The game features a persistent universe where everything you do leaves a footprint long after you log off.

7. True Weight of Player Actions: Everything you do within the game comes with a consequence. These consequences cannot be escaped, and everything you do leaves a lasting impact on the game world. No argument or friendship will ever go unheard, and every experience will be different than the last.

8. Crime and Punishment: With the fall of the old dominion, came the fall of order. Now the law and punishment equally are up to your discretion as a player. Will you take over the prison colonies and declare your own police state across the galaxy, or will you become a ruthless bounty hunter who doesn’t care about anything, but the wealth that comes from order?

9. Territory System: The territory system allows factions to capture almost any area in the game world in the name of their faction. Once captured, the owning faction can place down objects to customize their new territory. These objects range from market vendors to slot machines and almost everything in between. Your factions name is also displayed upon owning the territory. Set taxes, remove access, drive conflict and milk the economy. It’s all up to you!

10. Roleplay: The most unique aspect of Face of Mankind: Fall of the Dominion is the way that these mechanics interact to create an experience unlike anything you have had before. While at first glance the game may seem relatively simple, once you immerse yourself in the game universe, you will never want to quit.

As you can see by the number of hours I have played, I have some experience behind this review.

Face of Mankind is an interesting concept gone horribly wrong. Even if you can get around the bad graphics, bugs, bad mechanics, awful community (I mean AWFUL. Worst MMO community I have ever seen.) among other negative aspects (YES, the list is huge) what will really kill this game for anyone willing to give it a chance are the staff.

Say anything the GMs / Devs don't agree with? Banned.

Ask why you were banned? Permabanned.

Write a negative review on steam? (Yes. I will probably be permabanned for this review. No jokes.)

Complain about GM abusing their power? Banned.

There are so many people who get banned for doing sweet ♥♥♥♥all, yet all the ones who violate the Terms of Service are ignored so long as they don't complain about corrupt staff.

Try ask for actual help on a legit matter! When a bug wipes all your items and money, ask for help! Send a million tickets on the support website. Nothing will be done. If you're lucky they'll ban you so you never have to see this game again.

Oh wait, it gets even better!!! The lead GM locked files for known hackers so other staff members couldn't detect said hacks... But dare you try say that in game... You know what will happen. Yes, you'll be the one who gets banned.

I say again, DO NOT EVER PAY FOR THIS GAME. I got it while it was still free-to-play and I feel like I've been cheated. I'd kill myself if I'd payed for this mess.

Don't buy into this game, its full of Lies and Scams to get your Money!

You should be reporting this game for Fraud on steam if you see it! And ill tell you why

This game says tons of stuff that isn't true about the game. The screenshots, the Description, what you get if you pay, and how its "community developed".

Look into the forums on steam about this game, you can CLEARLY see that Developers are lieing left and right about the current situtation of the game, they say stuff is in the game that clearly isn't. When you call them on it, they just restart a new thread and act like everything is fine!

And thats just about the game before even playing it.

After playing it heres a review.

Pay 15$, only to log in and get blocked by, Another PAYWALL! This game has TONS of paywalls, from needing premium to do basic tasks, to needing to buy keys to loot your own kills. Not only that, but they have a ingame cash shop to get even more money from you, you have to PAY to change your name, you have to PAY to rename your faction, you have to PAY to get revived faster. You have to PAY to sell things ingame, You have to PAY to produce things faster then 1 at a time. It says "15$ for a full account" But the full account is just BS. All they give you is premium clothing, THE END.

It stops there, third weapon slots are still glitched and don't work properly for paying customers, when asking a Developer about it, they said, Ohh thats for premium players to make it work properly. EVEN THOUGH THEY CLEARLY POSTED ITS FOR 15$ ACCOUNTS!

You're limited still to just your one apartment which no one will EVER use because other players can enter at anytime and loot it. Making spending all your ingame cash on it, stupid and pointless and a waste of time.

The game developers constantly say "we are listening to players for feedback and developement." There is hundreds of forums for this game asking for the same thing over and over and developers REFUSE and keep saying it over and over that they don't want to do that. But will ask again and keep saying, "we want community feedback but wont listen to it."

And if you can deal with all that, the game itself is pointless, money is earned by sitting in the corner of the map shooting a gun with unlimited ammo at a rock with infinity gear. You get all your materials from the rock and recycle it only to find out, that if you arn't a premium member, your limited to earning 10k a day. Like I said, if you pay your paywall, it goes away.

Another thing wrong is combat, There is no punishment for killing other players, its rewarded. You shoot newbies and everyone when they don't expect it, take there gear and sell it, but your limited to 100 market transations at once WITH A PAIDED ACCOUNT, BUT Heres the paywall, if you pay EXTRA your not limited.

Same thing with storage, ingame you have storage, if you pay Extra RL money, u get no storage limit, if you buy a basic account, you get the same storage as a free account.

I'll change this review if the developers care to listen to what players have been TELLING them about for the past years and they havn't been fixing anything at a reasonable pace. They've infact been slowly changing this game to its former self 3 years ago.

I have played Face of Mankind since 2006 and this game is just not what it used to be, the game was F2P then it became P2P it shows how greedy the developers are the patches have done nothing good and the community are the most toxic and butthurt people i have ever met.

Don't waste money on this game honestly, just dont. the GMs and DEVs are corrupt and dont help new players people like GM Ducky are most cancerous.

But yeah dont buy this game and this should be removed from Steam Store.

Sandbox game which relies -only- on social interactions with other players. The community more than often sucks. There is nothing to do. If you do join a faction, you either become a slave or you literally have nothing more to do (nothing fulfilling for your own game in both cases). They should rename it Hoarding, the game where the only thing to do is to loot, either for you or for your faction. Then the only thing useful to do with that loot is for someone else to loot it off you.
The makers of this game could not care less about their players. They recently turned their free game into something you have to pay for and by doing so asked all their previous members who helped them through bugs and issues to pay for the ♥♥♥♥ing game. It is a pay to win game, if you want to do anything at all in it, you need a credit card with a lot of space.

Briefly: A boring game, pay to win with literally nothing to do. Lazy game makers who won't listen to their players and are only interested in how much profit they can milk off your back for a minimal creation effort.

Don't buy this lame ♥♥♥ shit game.

I have been a veterean of Face of Mankind since 2005. There are numerous reasons why this game is horrid, and it has been recreated more then 3 times. First, it was the actual game in 2005. Then, the emulator in 2007. The game was relaunched in 2011, and then it was recreated again. Face Of Mankind had a 60k kickstarter. Lets be honest. They spent the money on hookers, and themselves. One of the developers went on a 2-3 week long trip to Egypt. How could he afford that? Let me tell you. OUR MONEY. The developers not only abandoned the game, the GM's as well, but all of the players did. The remaining players are no lives who have no morals, and want to destroy the game. I have never played something so disgusting. Please, shut it down for the good of humanity.

I have a mixed review on this game,

Much of my love comes from the fact that i am a glutton for punishment these people are the worse of the worse scumbags from all over and it gives me a certain satisfaction to send them to cloning.

The developers and Game masters pick and choose when to bann people using a BS excuse from someone breaking the rules months ago. ALso don't let me get into the whole IP Ban scandal that happens they bann without warning don't try to communicate with the community about how to implement better player atmosphere. Please Steam kick them in the teeth so they can beg and plead for a new means of income or advertisement. I love the game but all good things have to come to an end whether it be a staff member on steam monitoring them or someone.

First I'm going to tell you that I started playing this game about 5 or so years ago. Was really fun back then ,except there is one thing that has always been a problem with this game. If you guessed Developers, you are correct! One of their top DEVs is a registered sex offender. Can you believe in a game with children, a company would let this happen? To add to that, every Developer has these stupid ideas that only benefit like one faction and say "screw you" to the rest. In conclusion I would rather use the $15 it takes to buy this game and give it to a hobo to buy some more drugs.

Having played FoM for months before stopping in December, I can't say I've missed it much. To me, FoM has always been about the drama and politics, mechanics have never seemed that great and they only got worse in this latest iteration of the game.

The community, which since I have played has been rather toxic (with some good people, mind, but drowned out by the voice of the toxic players often), is now nearly dead. Last check, the game at most can pull 20 players, often sitting more at 10. Even once busy hub colonies are now empty or at most occupied by one person.

The promises of updates and development have slowly shown to be nothing but lies, time and time again it seems either nothing is said or an excuse is given to justify the lack of work. To the point even understandable reasons, like the recent holidays, feel more like excuses to not do any work then legitimate reasons. If you check the forum, the latest "reason" for the lack of a patch is the community hasn't given enough feedback on "soon to be implemented ideas." I'm sorry but you can't even put out a small patch for adding things like being able to send mail to department members without the community discussing it even further?! As I described to a friend, "I'm pretty sure Congress would be able to put out a patch before the FoM developers."

The game, even if it had a large player base, lacked a lot of character to it already. Player created factions sounds good, til you realize that those factions have little to no RP value at all, most just being around so people can shoot each other in a game with pretty bad combat mechanics. The methods of war come down to who can stay up the latest. You could often fight for a piece of land for 8+ hours, go to bed and end up losing all your territories because someone from the other faction stayed up an extra hour and blew it all up.

To sum it up, if you like a game in which there is little to no RP, devoid of character, where battles over territory mean almost nothing, you (and everyone else on the forums) are required to come up with every little detail of bug fixing or development, where you walk around empty colonies because at most 10 people are playing, has terrible economy and fighting mechanics, and you get listen to a bunch of 12 year olds with maybe a grown up or two around in chat, then you'll love Face of Mankind.

From what I understand, about 10 years ago, this was an interesting game. A totally player run world with it's own brand of politics, economy, and one of the few MMOs that could reliably hold hundreds of players in one area for mass combat (or trade, or just hanging out) with no NPCs to be found.

What I played, was more or less that after it had been burned to the ground and the survivors and old veterans of the old world had since decided to hudle together and reminace on how things used to be. The graphics haven't seen an update since early last decade, the skill system is ripped straight out of EVE online yet still less in depth, Military factions roam the various worlds often take whatever land they wish, randomly killing people until they get singled out and then they break up and get absorbed by the other war factions which then do the same. The combat is clunky and very depandant on running side to side while spaming the fire button and gear is pretty much everything if you want to be competive. A few decent systems intersperse with the crippled and mired down ones.

All in all, the place is very much dead in some places, and down right dangerous in others. There are reminders of a golden age here and there, player made factions having their old territories and stomping grounds named after them, emblems and graphics of them spread through out the various facilities. The FDC even still does patrols and pays decent for those starting out last I checked.

Now I hear they've deceided to go buy-to-play instead of the old F2P model but that's just going to kill it faster as there will be even fewer new potential players to add anything into the game.

The game is still broken and unfinished in most parts. It's common fare to fight monsters that are glitched into the walls, ceilings, and floors or spawn in areas they are simply too big for. Literally an everyday occurance. It's actually common practice to strip down to nothing but a cheap little anti-monster gun they give you and then go run out to a big field or one of the known glitch points just to farm for credits where they can't get to you by shoting them for hours on end.

Just stay away and let it die so it will be forgotten about and someone else can pick up the idea later on with hopefully much better mechanics backing it up.

I'm going to go ahead from explaining my person expieriances with this game. When I first played this, is what a new world. I had no idea what I was doing, or how to continue. I needed help, so I made friends, learned the basics, and then chose a life. I have no other way of phrasing it, as 'a life' because it's like living. You make money, by doing jobs, and I don't mean missions. I mean actual jobs. I was first part of the LED which was the 'cops'. I had many adventures and went to many places that I can only describe as a good time.

I took a break from the game, and came back a long time ago. LED was a dead faction, so I needed a new job. I became a mercenary, and that didn't last long.

I took another break, and came back today. I saw all the reveiws and was confused. This game, where I could meet people, and send mail was 'dead?' It was dead. I went today and I found players just acting as if it was a third person Call of Duty game. I couldn't handle it I was probably in denial. But I can't say blame the developers. Blame the new players. Mayber that's why this game is pay to play. Kids saw it was free, and started playing it like kids. Except these people were 22, and around 20 years of age. Saying things like 'rekt' and a new one I heard 'dumpstered'.

This game is dead, and anyone you find in it, is just some person with nothing better than do with their life.

I don't even know what to say about this game. The community is dead, the dev hardly release any patches, and a lot of people dis it, but there's something amazing about it. It's not very active, and it's certainly not very fancy, but there's a freedom in it that other MMOs just can't offer. You can do whatever you want. You can be anybody you want to be. Other MMOs force you through a storyline and specific missions, but in this game, you make the storyline, and you (or your superiors) make the missions, and those missions are against other real people with their own goals and ideas.

While this game is Sink-or-Swim, that's actually one of the cool things about it. If somebody is good at something in this game, they worked to get there, as nothing about this game comes on a silver platter. This game is community-based, and while the community is *airquotes* "dead", there's still a few dozen people who play the game, so there's still enough people to make the game playing. As somebody who loves this game and doesn't want to see it die, please join the community and be a part of the new Face of Mankind.

Apparently I did know what to say about this game. :p
