What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early access is ideal place where we can work with our fans on the living piece of game. So we decided to give players some parts of our game, evaluate and balance gameplay together to recive what we all expect. Engaging action with immersive story.”

How long will this game be in Early Access?

“It depends on two groups of people. Us - developers and You - our fan base. We would like to release first episode in middle/end of summer, but it depends how much progress with a gameplay we'll do together during this summer. So this is our target and we will do what we can to acomplish that milestone but you have to remember, we want give u high quality indie game and it comes first.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“First thing that has to be said is that our game will be based on story and action gamepaly. As we do episodic series its a little bit to big spoiler to share our whole story with you on early access. This is why we decided to give u only some part of our game, that will show you our setting, gameplay and some introduction to story and dialog system. It is one of missions that you enter form the Hub and is based on linear gamepley.
The final game will be fully developed as 3 hours long chapter of gameplay in semi open world map, where u decide where to go and what to do. As it is story driven game there will be much more story, characteras and whole lore stuff of Afterfall Universe. Whats more final voice overs for each dialogue line in a game, new skills for our main character and the most importent final, balanced developed with your help, combat system.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“What you will find on early access will be alpha version of Reconquest systems. Content wise you will get about 1 hour core gameplay and its approximately 1/4 of the full episode.. This will expand with further updates.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No we do not plan base price to differ.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“This is the most important element of the concept. We will listen to what community says. As the game has episodic format we will listen not only to bug reports but also to ideas and concepts for game improvement that may be implemented in further episodes. We may also choose epiogue from gamers ideas and concepts but this will come when the story will develop. The plan is to make as frequent updates as possible so everttime you will play the game it will be different.”

About This Game

You're stepping into a world after the outbreak of war. A war in which nuclear warheads weren't the ultimate means of destruction, rather a stage in a self-made apocalypse. A new weapon was used. Nobody heard about the Entropy charges before the Day Zero and a few remained to tell the story after.

Only two groups of people managed to survive the apocalyptic conflict. The first consisted of the lucky ones who found shelter in one of the 'sanctuary cities' hidden deep in the mountains. Their luck, however, was the first resource to run out. Soon it became obvious that these havens weren't self-sufficient. After a few years the resources started to deplete and when they finally ran dry, worn out and embittered survivors once again were forced to find a new place to call home.

Today, former inhabitants of the sanctuary cities descended into the valleys in search of fertile soil, clean water and resources to process into fuel and tools. Thus begins the RECONQUEST - slow and ardous process of taking the land back from mutants and wildlife and rebuilding the lost cities and civilization.

As for the second group... their fate remains a mystery.

YOUR MISSION

You're one of the surviving members of the Corvin family. Your task is to find out what caused the annihilation of your family and execute vengeance upon the guilty.

Every night you're haunted by nightmares. They're somehow connected to the childhood. The problem is that you're not really sure whether it is your childhood that you're dreaming about. The path you've taken is not an easy one. Along the way you'll come to realize that there are powers at work in this barren world that don't want you to know the truth.

Despite your neutrality, more than once you'll find yourself entangled in intrigues. You will reveal many mysteries of the post-apocalyptic world. Maybe you'll even discover the secrets of mythical 'Pearl of Wastelands', the image of which looms large in everyone's mind.

Early Access Review
It's time for my review of the game. When i first saw that Afterfall will have a "brother" game, i was really afraid and discouraged that the game will be like Afterfall Insanity full of problems , the game won't even load or start etc. (people who have played Afterfall Insanity will fully understand me). But i decided to give this title a try. I was really surprised when i started playing the game and realized that it has nothing to do with Afterfall Insanity (i am telling this in a good way) the only thing that it's the same it's the universe which the game is set in, the devs have really evolved since Afterfall Insanity and this title is the proof about it .
Let's talk a little bit more about the game now. First you have to consider the fact that it is an early access titles which means that the game will be evolving and improved constantly. The graphics of the game are surprisingly good , even on my pc which is a really mediocre one you can play flawlessly without any issues or lagging. The monsters and the character are really well designed and the environment and the atmosphere is really good, well designed and scary too. Admit it, you all died when you first played the game by the train. Let's talk about the Reaper skills now. There is the Shrapnel Cannon(middle range offensive weapon), the Shield (defensive) and Drain (health recovery). These skills are really good designed and you can use them as you like , depending on the way you want to play the game. You want to play it offensive use the Cannon, you want to play it defensive the shield is your choice, or use both of them . You are free to use them as you like. .
As far as the music is concerned it's really good and it gives you chills and the atmosphere of a horror game which is something really positive , the voice acting in the opening scene is really good too and i am sure all the aspects that I have already mentioned they will constantly improved and get even better ,the devs already have mentioned that and they have already announced what we can expect in the future.
Another think that i liked is the RPG segments in the game (except the adventure ,action and horror segments i have already mentioned) , there is a main quest at the moment and as the dev mentioned there will be 3-4 side quests in the 1 episode and the 1 episode will have 3-4 hours of gameplay so there is more to expect from it in the near future...
Time to sum it up. I liked a lot playing this game, I found it really fun and you have nothing to be afraid of when you hear the word Afterfall on the contrary i think we should all trust this title even on its early access and can't wait for the future update.
The game has controller support (really good playing experience with a controller totally recommended) and achievements will be added too

Verdict:
8.5/10 (because there is still improvement since it's early access and still under development, i will be updating my review constantly when new updates will be available)

Early Access Review
Here is the video I made on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dK2M7U7P9I (just a gameplay video, not a review)

This is episode 1, that is currently in early access. This is NOT the full episode - no, this will hold about an hour of gameplay EDIT: I only got 30minutes out of it, and didn't feel the need to play much more after that, and the final thing will be about 3 hours, but that's just episode 1. I'm not 100% sure about this idea, but hey, we'll see. There will be 9 episodes in total, but no confirmation about how long the other episodes will be.

I've bought it now, so what the hell. Might as well help others. EDIT: Around 30 minutes of my Steam time is the first episode. The rest was checking out this new update :)

Updated version:

Everything is still pretty much the same, however they have brought settings (of sorts, not fully completed yet) into the game which allows you to change the difficulty level (hard, medium and easy) resolution (pretty much the first thing I wanted, I'm sure others did too) gamma, brightness, and change key binds. It's a good start, but still a very long way to go.

For a full list of features available in the game, check right at the top of the store page. For the recent update, which includes the introduction of settings, slight lighting reworks, checkpoint revision, etc etc, then check the latest news page (as of today)

Old version:

So, simple issues at the moment;

You can't change any settings yet. That includes resolution (yes it is stuck at a set resolution, not sure what but it's ungodly to me), sound quality, graphics, etc etc.
It looks and feels very clunky. (really what early access/alpha/beta should feel like)
Rolling diagonally looks very funny.
Gunplay is very simple.
Enemy AI is absolutely terrible.

- - - -

Recommendation is applied to this early access version. I know full well that it's early access, I'm just stating what's available at the moment.
Conclusion: Still wait a bit.

Will update this thing as it's being developed.

I like it. It reminds me Metro. Nice atmosphere. Nice graphics, but obviously need some polish. This is, on my criteria what an alpha is supossed to be. I whish more graphics options (a little gamma can come handy), dificulty settings (its true that is a little dificult right now...an easier mode would be great, and a map. But a nice post doomsday survival to inmerse into

Like it so far, like some of the other comments, need settings options, more controls (always drives me crazy when an action game doesn't have a simple movement like jump, could use roll movements as well). Some graphic glitches, but I know they will be ironed out as well as some ammo spots that you can't pick up. Monsters and mutants look and move good, nice AI (monsters more around instead of coming right at you), mutants are kind of stupid though. Nice atmosphere, reiminds me of Metro like someone else mentioned. Good start for a beta, have to wait and see.
