My 3 hour record is the result of me playing the game three times on my own and one time on co-op with my little sister. That's how short this game is and it also kind of indicates how much substance this game lacks.
A block of wood is set on an adventure by its father, the tree, to collect water drops for the dry world. There are seven worlds with each of them housing three drops. On your "adventure" in those worlds worlds you meet "enemies" and collect strawberries to "eat" them.
I guess I normally wouldn't bother writing a review of this game seeing how it was made by one person, maybe even his first game, and there's been lots of free give aways (where I got my own key from, thankfully), but it is still a fully working product sold on Steam so it should be reviewed as such.
I honestly played this game for the achievements and even those weren't challenging nor fun.
The quotation marks in my description of the story are for a reason. You can hardly call it an adventure when you can run through the levels in a matter of few minutes without collecting the strawberries and without hitting the enemies. There is no other point in collecting the strawberries other than for the achievements and for the leaves which act as weapons. But even then there's no point either in killing these really random enemies with most of them idling and avoidable.
The levels are too easy and too short, the camera angles are often really bad (including this bug which when you fall and respawn, the camera changes its position behind a wall and you can't see where you're going) and even the co-op isn't fun because the camera is fixed on player 1 so the other player has to keep up on all times.
Only positive I could come up is the animations. Really simple but still kind of cute.
I am not such a huge fan of platformers but I still can't imagine how playing this is supposed to rekindle your fond memories of classical games of the genre. I don't even like Mario games that much but I just can't see similarities between this and Mario 64.
It seems too simple of a game for an adult to enjoy. But if my 10-year-old-sister didn't like it either then how young would you have to be?
I'm surprised too see I managed to write such a lengthy review but the tl;dr version is this: not worth paying for and even as a free game fun only for few minutes.
+ Cute animation
- Gameplay lacks
- Extremely short
- Too easy
- Bad camera angles
- Story lacks
- Random enemies
- Even co-op isn't fun
