It's really hard to judge this game.
I'm a really big fan of these type of graphics and I tried this game with open mind.
It's a mixed bag of everything. It plays like an early indie game and not the good kind.
If this is supposed to be a 3D game, then the camera should be the best feature! But it isn't.
The only thing you can do is zoom in and zoom out. It seems like you can do it without limits.
You can't rotate it and in certain areas it's automatic, which can really screw up some jumping challenges. Speaking of which, the level design is a crap shoot. The first level is better than the second. I gave up on it, because it was so frustrating to jump around and start all over because I missed one jump.

The music is alright, but some of the sounds could be a little more lively or varied.

I was lucky to get it for free, because of the library sharing. It could be a great game. It looks nice, but the most basic elements of what make a 3D platformer good are totally abscent. The camera is bad, the controls are bad and the level design tolerable at best.

I'd be disappointed if I paid 2 euros.

tbh the game is not that bad although it kinda lacks direction, although it's a free roam game. Probs wasn't paying attention in the beginning.

However 3 big problems in the game mechanics is camera angles, HUD and checkpoints:
  • Camera angles are weird and don't reset after dying
  • Camera isn't controllable (on keyboard)
  • no HUD (should have some indication of how many berries I've gotten
  • Camera is too sudden (I'll often fall off the map due to this)
  • Camera makes it too hard to tell where you are, can't see enough ground (a higher angle would make it easier)
  • Checkpoints sometimes make you go back to the beginning if you jump far enough away from a platform. (might be a mechanic though - 3 deaths and back to the beginning)
  • Strange white bar when dying (idk what it is)
I also found that jumping repeatedly and note letting character rotate back to regular angle, the character will eventually turn upside down, easy to do this on stairs as you sticks to stairs while run + jumping.

However, the game is still pretty good, just at this stage, I wouldn't recommend, probs wouldn't recommend ever since the developer is working on the sequel now, so bugs might never will be fixed.
Also an indication of what level you've done would be nice.

As of now, this game is pretty much used for idling cards.
EDIT: I all my cards were the SAME.

Rating it positive because I guess it would be an okay game for a young child, with its shiny and pretty nice graphics. And because I got it for free.
Otherwise, the controls are ruined by the incontrolable camera, as mentioned in many other reviews. So I wouldn't buy it.

I get that making 3D platformers isn't exactly easy but this game manages to make every mistake possible and its only saving grace is that the game itself is incredibly easy so your suffering will not be too extreme.

-The camera is trash. It's fixed and there is supposedly a way to move it but I only ever managed to do it by accident alt-tabbing out of the game and could never do it on purpose, the relocated camera made the game harder to play.

-The levels make the level designs in the new "3D" Mario games actually look good. They're simple, blocky, full of pitfalls, and not much fun to navigate. Worse still is the bevelled edge everything has that makes it difficult to tell where edges are sometimes.

-The fruity collectibles appear to just be currency, there is little point to actually get them and they respawn in levels when you re-enter them. You can literally just farm them in the first level and you don't even have to beat it, you can just grab the easy ones, hit escape, and then go back into the world until you have every item.

-The game does nt let you continue playing when you beat it. This means you can't continue playing the same game just to get every achievement without having to play this abysmal mess all over again. This is extremely contrary to every other game in the genre I have ever played as they always let you continue playing even after 100%.

-The music is not great. It isn't the worst music I've ever heard but it was clearly someone's early attempts and you can tell they are not very knowledgeable about good composition in general. It ended up ranging from forgettable to annoying.

-There are some strange things related to character animations. If you consecutively jump, woodie's model will rotate until it's at a 90 degree angle from where it started. It looks hilarious, but not in a good way. He also doesn't look like he really walks, he just floats across the ground and waggles his legs. There is no bounce to his step and some of his quirks make me think his hitbox might actually be round instead of square and in a blocky game like this I cannot imagine why that would be necessary but I don't actually know that for a fact, that's just how he looks.

This definitely look like something a single person tried to make to learn a 3D engine or other aspects of game design. If it were a free game I probably wouldn't be so hard on it but it honestly looks like one of many instances where someone tried to sell their first project and that is never a good idea. I don't recommend this game unless you want a pretty clear idea of how not to design a 3D collect-a-thon platformer.

I cannot even think of any upsides to mention because all the remotely redeeming things featured in the game are done much better in just about every other entry into the genre that I know of - and since this is my all-time favorite genre, I have played quite a lot.

TL;DR: I can't think of anything this game did right.

As someone who's worked in Unity before, this game screams laziness. The only challenge in the game is figuring out where a platform ends and a pit begins. The developers didn't even try to get the camera right. There's no UI of any sort. An enlarged backpack can make it very difficult to see where the character is. If you're running and attacking an enemy, it's very likely you'll trade hits and go back to the beginning of the level. There's no pause, button; Esc closes the game. And lastly, the achievements and the game itself are very grindy.

EDIT: Two positives. One, jumping fast enough lets you flip upside down. Two, the uninstall function worked perfectly.

Woodle Tree Adventures is a charming 3D platformer ruined by the inability to manually rotate the camera or consistently change the angle of the camera, making platforming at times excruciatingly tedious because you just can't tell exactly where you're going to land.

Woodle doesn't just fall down on the platforming (haha), the sound effects are also incredibly lacking, and the music doesn't seem very fitting. While it might be a cliche, arcadey sound effects and chiptune style music would have been much more appropriate and would have gone a long way to improving the experience. At least it looked nice, though simple, in a Nintendoesque sort of way; it just doesn't have anywhere near the same polish you would find on a Nintendo title.

Even at the low price Woodle has gone on sale for (sometimes even free) I couldn't recommend it. Woodle has something special about it, and I felt compelled to play it all the way through, but whatever redeeming qualities I was hoping to find totally escaped me. Maybe Woodle 2 will have improved upon the areas in which Woodle 1 is so sorely lacking.

3 out of 10. Did not get wood(le).
