Update v0.7 is now live!

Commanders - presenting Habitat v0.7! We’re continuing to add features and expand gameplay; in this version you’ll find the start of our Factions system, enemy Engineers and engineer combat, new physics hazards, the return of omni-thrusters, control improvements, new space junk and more!

NOTE: Many aspects of the game have changed. Not all of the new systems are present in the Tutorials. Read about the details below to familiarize yourself with the changes.
NOTE: Saved game data file formats have changed from v0.6. Your previous save games are not guaranteed to work with v0.6. If you wish to remove or edit them, they are plaintext JSON files here:
PC: Users\<You>\AppData\LocalLow\4gency\Habitat_EarlyAccess_\HabitatSaves

Introducing Factions

Space is dark and mostly empty - but not the world of Habitat! This update you’ll get introduced to a few factions - the first of several that’ll live in the Habitat world.

Factions have their own agendas - they’re not always out to get you! Each faction has its own allies, neutrals, and enemies, and as we build out Habitat you’ll be tasked with missions that involve them all.

Look for the flags on habitat ships and space stations to identify who’s who:

• Pirate Flag - Space pirates. Their engineers will attempt to sabotage pieces of enemy ships. They are antagonistic to you, to civilians, and to nano machines.
• Yellow Flag - Nanomachines. Their engineers will turn floating space junk into nano-machine hunters to track you down. They are antagonistic to you, to civilians, and to pirates.
• White Flag - Civilians. These poor souls are right in the middle of combat and just want to be left alone. They will leave you alone but will defend against pirates and nano machines.

There are a few more factions we’ll reveal as we go along, space is a big place and there’s room for everyone - until the resources run out!

Engineer to Engineer Combat

With factions, you’ll also notice that each ship and station has its own engineers. Every faction fields their own engineer army, and some of them are out to cause trouble for you and your allies.

Orienting a whole ship just to take out a few menacing space pirate astronauts is a pain; that’s why engineers are packing their own firepower now! Engineers on all sides field the preferred weapon of the space duelist, the Inertia Pistol. These hand-held momentum cannons do physical damage, but also stun and fling the struck engineer backward - which can end in some nasty consequences, especially if they hit a nebula, an explosion, a black hole or even just a really big rock.

Click on enemy engineers to send your nearest available engineer to attack - note that you’ll have better chances if you send multiple engineers! Attacking an engineer is considered an act of war, and other engineers may join in the fight to defend their attacked comrade.

Watch out for anti-personnel turrets on some habitat nodes. They’ll make short work of any engineer that trips its friend-or-foe identification system. For your protection your habitat will be provided with one, and in the next update you’ll be able to buy and upgrade them at towns.

New Physics Hazards - and Danger, Engineers!

We’re continuing to make the world of Habitat a more dynamic place. Three new physics-based hazards join the nebulas to make travel and combat even more interesting:

• The gravity well sucks in objects and deals crushing damage at its core. Once a certain amount has been swallowed, the well will emit a strong pushing force to clear itself before inverting back to a pulling force.
• The tachyon ramp pushes any objects in its field in the direction of the field particles. Send your habitats - or your projectiles - for a ride.
• The force anomaly is a mysterious blue sphere that emits a force wave at irregular intervals. Thoroughly destructive results may result when steering too close.

You may also notice - the hard way - that nebulas can now deal damage to engineers. The results can be lethal! Be especially careful if engaging in combat near nebulas, gravity wells, or other hazards; a stunned engineer that goes into a freezing nebula may come out a popsicle. Hypothetically, of course.

Improved Controls: Omni-Thrusters

What are those items on your HQ when you begin the game? They are two omni-thruster producers, and we’re glad to have them back! Omni-thrusters make it possible to maneuver more precisely, and without needing to find and attach rockets.

Controlling them is easy: Just hover over the HQ, and then hold the arrow keys in the direction you want to go.

Some tips:

• It’s easiest if you hit TAB to focus on your habitat, then the mouse cursor stays right where it needs to be.
• You can combine omni-thrust with rocket boosting for precise and powerful control.
• New command bridges you create come with a thruster on them for easy movement.
• In the next update, you’ll be able to buy and upgrade thrusters for your individual habitat nodes, to increase mobility as you need it.

For a future update we’re also considering an “autopilot” where clicking on a destination auto-fires the omni-thrusters as needed to reach the goal. Would it be useful? Let us know on the forums!

New Junk Types

There’s always more out there. We’ve recently come across a set of utility pieces from a large set of mining and refinery ships that used to work the asteroid belts. The pieces we have for analysis here bear a few smudged letters: N_S_R_MO. Our researchers are baffled; no idea what it means! Here’s what we’ve found:

• Colony Waste Tank - A waste reclamation unit from a JPC ReadyMade! brand habitat. Still appears to be processing Omni.
• Colony Hybrid Generator - A solar-powered generator combined with a habitable space; a standard colony unit in the JPC ReadyMade! line.
• Colony Structural Pylon - This reinforced structural pylon comes pre-slung with electrical and life support cabling, and plenty of connections.
• Colony Large Nacelle - A large colony structural nacelle, able to support multiple production units with a variety of cabling and connectors.
• Colony Medium Nacelle - A smaller-size colony structural unit, with room for two production units and good universal connectors.
• Colony Storage Tanks - A JPC All-In-One brand fuel refining and storage facility; the fire shielding is a little out of code but otherwise OK.

Update coming soon!

Good day Engineers!

Our next Habitat update is coming up very soon! We’re introducing some new gameplay mechanics and challenges in this latest update:

Factions: Nanos and Pirates
Just two of several factions that you’ll encounter, Pirates and Nanos are both dangerous to you, but also to one another. Watch out for Pirate salvage attacks, and Nano constructors that generate new hunters!

Engineer Combat and Enemy Engineers
Prepare for combat on a whole new level - engineer armies are now fielded by all factions, and can fight with one another using physics-based stun pistols that pack a wallop and send targets flying - sometimes right into a fire nebula. Ouch!

New Space Hazards
Gravity wells, fusion cores, and tachyon belts join the nebulas as dangerous - and potentially useful - hazards that inhabit the game world. Each one has unique properties, each one can be a game-changer in combat.

And More…

Highly stable joint connectors make your creations much steadier, omni thrusters make a triumphant return, making it easy to get underway or escape trouble, and a new pack of space junk salvaged from experimental stations gives you even more opportunities to build and explore! As always, we’ve continued bug fixing and general improvements too!

All this will be headed your way very soon in Habitat v0.7. Stay tuned, and keep on spacin’!

Despre acest joc

Habitat is a physics-based space survival game where you build, fly, and fight with stations you assemble out of space debris. Upgrade and arm your creations with weapons and structures you find in orbit, fly and explore using rocket physics, and do battle with deadly enemies to save humanity.

Leading your team of engineers, you will have to build and fly your space stations in a zero gravity setting, mastering physics driven flight simulation to explore the space around you. In order to thrive and grow you have to manage your population and their environment. In the event of a threat get creative and turn your space stations into deadly weapons using pieces of debris you pick up such as rockets, lasers and particle accelerators to fight and ultimately survive against attacks from the enemy. This is a space survival game where crisis is guaranteed and your only chance for survival is to be creative and decisive in the face of disaster.

Habitat is a bizarre and lovely experience. At first it seems very simple, but a few minutes in and the depth of the experience is unavoidable. This sandbox spacestation construction set is very slow paced but so obviously full of potential. Be warned, if you are not a patient person, don't bother with this title. On the other hand, if you have a little patients, and are the type of person to delve into a sandbox and make your own fun, you'll love this game.

Essentially, you fly around a 2D section of space collecting garbage and attaching it to your space station. The junk you find will range anywhere from burger joints to old retired satilites. Within moments of firing up the game I had already attached an old sherman tank to the front of my station. What's better is that this junk isn't just garbage, they are upgrades. I could use the tank to fire cannon balls at other debre floating through space, for fun and also to clear a path. Later, I found a lunar lander and tossed it on the back of my station and used it's engines for some extra speed.

Many elements of Habitat remind me of RTS games. You have resources that must be collected/generated, such as Omni (money), Electricity (power), and Fuel (more different power), and the amounts you generate depend on how you've built up your station and what junk you've attached to it. So, rather than sending some peons to go gather coal, I attached a solar array to the back of my station so that I generated more electricity.

Part of the strategy involved in this title is balancing your ship build. If you have too much weight/mass on one side or the other, the ship will fly crooked. This ultimately lead to constant corrections by firing my boosters on one side of the ship in bursts while the other side remained at full blast. I realized later that I could actually adjust the individual output of each of my boosters so that all the engines could be left on simultaniously and the station would still fly straight, that is until I added more junk!

Did I mention you can also control where the power in your station is distributed? There are three catagories, Weapons, Boosters, and Power. More energy in weapons... actually, I haven't tried that, so I don't know what it does, but more power in the Boosters makes you go faster, and more power in Power, gives a bonus to your resource generation.

It is a unique experience and a lot of fun, but it definitely takes some time to get used to, and it takes even more time to accomplish anything! As of this writing, the game is still in early release, so hopfully the pacing is tweaked a little before release, but even if not, I still wouldn't pass it up. Good game, great experience, and I'm looking forward to watching this one come along as it gets closer to release and beyond.

TL;DR?

If you're patient and enjoy playing in a silly space sandbox full of junk and potential, then this game is definitely for you. If you're not a patient gamer, and/or sandboxes and making a bit of your own fun aren't your thing, then give this one a pass.

The game is not without fun and I did enjoy it for a while but I found that there was no real purpose to ship building beyond small weapons platforms.

Currently not enough depth to it but it is an early access game and I will check in now and then to see how it is going
So please consider my Not recommended as possibly changeable.

I hope to change my opinion in the future.

Light-hearted sandbox space game that doesn't take itself too seriously. It's been on early access for a while and recently has gone from feeling less like a tech demo and more like a sandbox game. If you like sandbox games and have ever wanted to construct your own space station or lumbering orbital combat ships, you'll really enjoy this one.

The developers have been making big improvements at a pretty rapid pace, too.

I wish i could reccomend this game I really do. After playing for a while i have noticed serious gamebreaking bugs. my ships break everytime i go to lunar orbit and ship parts constantly break off for no reason when first placed as well as the worst one which does not allow me to recruit engineers but wastes the resources and stunts all my ships stats so no matter what i add on it never changes. i have tried unistalling it and starting new saves but the bugs persist. I will continue to play this game but can't recommend it at this stage in development.

Habitat is a beautiful game. Considering this is being Early Access game, it is still improving, but each revision offers quite of bit improvements over last. If you have dreamed of creating your own space station to fly around with, this is the game for you. Just don't expect your station to be typical!

Workshop feature allows you to create your own object using your favorite 3D editors. As far as items you can create with it, it's still bit limited, I personally can't wait for more capability for Workshop items -- I would want my own booster! :-)

As the Linux user, I find the game very stable, and works well across different class of devices; from my good i7 machine to more capability limited laptop.

This game has single handedly stopped me from buying early access games. I picked this up 8 months ago when it was first released and it was unplayable. I wanted to love it, so I decided to leave it alone and give the developers more time. 8 months later it is still no where near completion. There have been some improvments to the UI and there are starting quests which help but there is still no purpose, it takes eons to move your ship and god forbid your ship is slightly off balanced from the random crap they provide because you will have to constantly turn on and off one engine to compensate for the imbalance. Overall it's not even worth $1 at this point. See you in another 8 months when it will hopefully be nearing alpha stages.

For an early acess game it's pretty good. the only problem is the gameplay, it should be more exciting than traveling to places. On the other hand you can attack enemy ships and stuff but you have to travel to a location to take on the missin and then travel again to get to the enemy. You can build multible ships which is cool and toggle between them. theres a few bugs, like my engineers dying from lack of living space when i have 4 living towers, but not many major game breaking bugs. Since they are updating it I feel like it was worth my 15$ now and will be worth it later. All i have to say is DO IT..... FOR THE BURGERS.

Habitat is a really zen game, while also being incredibly absurd. If you like attaching hamburgers to your space station while a statue of liberty is right next to it, bolted on, and you have as many rocket launchers as you can find in space... you'll probably like this game.

It is a very slow game, though, at least to start with so be prepared for that. It was very relaxing to slowly build up my floating junk heap though.

It took me a bit to get the physics and start understanding all the pieces of space junk and their powers, but after that, it became addicting. If I didn't have other commitments I'd be playing it every day - there's a never-ending sense of creativity to this game like Legos or Spore.

Still very early in development, can't wait to see what they have in store for a campaign or challenges or new features.
Made terrible spaceship out of random space junk, crashed into asteroids and died almost immediately.
Still need some help to understand the controls but that will probably be worked out with a tutorial eventually.

A pretty unique concept for a game - got to love that these days.

I found the learning curve a little high but persevere and you will be rewarded with a ton of fun. Lots of great humor in the space junk too.

Interesting concept that plays on some of my biggest dreams from childhood - exploring space in my own ship, collecting space junk and making cool things from it. The gameplay starts off a little slow, but that's to be expected when you're colonizing space and wading through centuries of junk.

Overall, I'm very impressed with the game as-is, and would consider it a complete sandbox. I'm excited to see what the future brings for Habitat. I did not have any issues or bugs while playing, and in-game tutorials and hints were measured but informative. My only issue with the game is that on creation of a new game, you are plopped right into the mix with no warning or opening. That's an opinion thing, though. I like a little more exposition in my games.

Habitat, is somewhat hard to explain. Sandbox meets space battles is the best one could do. The game requires alot more thought than I originally imagined. It seems simple in concept, grabbing random space debris to make a ship, then you find yourself attacked with calculations and math theory just to get your ship flying straight, Sure you can get by with guessing and such, but for the engineer wanna be, you have power levels to control, and energy to creation/expenditure manage, andmultiple ships. This game is very indepth, and with the updates this game continues to get better. I see great things for this game.

Now, don't take this review as the game is extremely stellar either (See what I did there :) ) There is a fwe things still needing some work, this game is in early access, so keep that in mind. You will find somethings hard to click on, I'd say this is the worst part in the game so far (Which is rather a small thing, you have to rotate the camera a little bit sometimes) and the movement can feel a little slow at times.

For a note on the best things in the game, the quests are decent challenge for starting off, and progress to mroe difficult, the tutorial is done well, and the enjoyment of finding new objects and figuring out hwo they work, with the ocassional item damaging your ship cause you didn't think it through very much is humorous.

This game really gives you the sense that you are controlling a giant cobbled together blob of space junk. Great sense of humor (attaching a burger stand to my space ship? Of course I will!) and paced well, not "twitchy". Fun and totally unique.

First off, I have only played a few minutes of this game at the time of this writing. I believe this will be a enjoyable game for me to pass time with when I have nothing to do, or just wanting a different spacy-wacy, sci-fi thingy game. I do have high hopes for Habitat, but for now, I think it just deserves a fair chance.

In short, this is a fun game. I got it as a free addon with my Graphics card and really do enjoy playing it. There aren't any maps in it, it is just one large "world". The game has goals, but the goals only give perks, and aren't required to advance. That being said, there isn't much advancing, story, or any real goal (except survive). I play it a lot, however, if I had to pay $15 for it, i would be dissapointed.

Really what I am saying is if you have the opertunity to get this for free, or if it's on sale for less than $5, I'd go for it.

It is good fun for short while but the current state that it is in really isn't worth spending the money on. Numerous bugs (although this is to be expected) and very little content - most of the enjoyment was created by me trying to set challenges for myself and experimenting - not what the game actually provided. In the future after more time has been put into developing it this could be a fantastic game.
