Day 1 Trailblazer, bought from website.

Most of my Gameplay hours are in beta, Still waiting for addional content.

This review is from my blog, going on 5 years now. Anniversary
coming up with free steam keys giveaway. Click my profile
for link, like and subcribe.

Review: Landmark for PC by Daybreak games.

First off, I want to say I am not familiar with Everquest except in
name only. Never played Everquest 1 or 2. Everquest Next was going to
be my first Everquest game. Secondly I was a founder of this game. My
name is in the credits. Seriously. I am disappointed that EQNext is
not coming.

I am not in any way angry at Daybreak. Why? Well I am well versed in
contract, and Legeleize. It happens. It happens on steam early access,
it happens on kickstarter, it happens in real life. You got somthing rather
then nothing for funding the game. Could be worse.

I am in no way defending Everquest Landmark, or Daybreak.
I just explaining how things work.

Our contract with Sony Online Entertainment was null and void. Sony
Online Entertainment no longer exists. If you read the I agree stuff,
you would see it says Sony Online Entertainment. Not Daybreak, Not
Columbus Nova. It's a loophole. Lawyers use loop holes to around
delivering what was promised. So Columbus Nova pulled a fast one by
using a loophole. SOE don't even have the same people anymore.
Daybreak is the new company that picked up the contract, so in
Legeleize they did not have to deliver anything at all because your
agreement was with SOE.

Anyway, on to the game itself.

If you bought it on steam, your going to have a hard time getting it
up and running. They need to fix that. On steam there is a lot of rage
about what happened to EQNext, about what was promised in Landmark,
and reviews about the company.

My friend said it took 20 mins for him to even get his steam key put
into his account. He spent a lot of time looking at errors, or Daybreak
apologizes because they are in a maintenance cycle. My launcher
didn't even launch on steam. However I found a work around. I
downloaded my steam version, and replaced all the files with stuff
from the version from daybreak games page.

The character creator is pretty basic. You can only be a human for
now. ( possible more races incoming? ) You can choose skin color, hair
color, hair type, face type, etc. You can choose your weapons.
Western, Sci Fi, or Fantasy. Then you load in. You already have a plot
made, there are quests to teach you the basics. The Voxels technology
combined with the engine is a new technology, I have always
experienced anomalies, still do in the game, and probably always will.

As far as guns go, I have not found anyway in game to make more guns.
There are like 4 guns right now. Hopfully more guns will be added later.
Bows and wands are also ranged weapons. Those were even
included in the Beta version. I can only assume they are adding more
of those later.

The game runs smooth, running on Nvidia GTX 960, however it suffers
from clipping issues. It does not look that much different then it did
in alpha before combat. The monsters are gone from roaming around the
world. You teleport to the caves now. No need to drill to the center of the earth.
So far I have not noticed tiered worlds like in beta. If they did have more tiers,
offered more challenges, better rewards, more powerful weapons, it would be a
welcome addition to the game. Again the future. We will see.

Everything has been dumbed down, simplified, and does not feel that
different from a Minecraft type game. It's Minecraft without the
blocky, with better tools, and Trove type combat mechanics. Minus the
extreme jumping, classes, and ultimate abilities. Just left click,
right click.

I can only assume more extensive stuff will be added later. Besides
the pvp, the monster props for story telling, there seems limited
things to craft. You can find things to craft doing dungeons, or
buy them with lumen. It's like gold, copper, silver, or platnium.

All the wiki and Reddit pages seem to be more about the rage, and I
cannot find more information about how extensive this game is.

Lack of animal life does make this game feel less alive. Like a game world.
Not a living world.

Some people who were founders on steam had to rebuy the game at launch
due to their change from a free to play to a pay to play. Daybreak did
not bother to fix this before launch making a lot of steam players
angry.

Fun Factor: Factor 6: The combat is the best thing in this game, the
building is way more complicated the Trove or Minecraft. Steep learning curve.

Multiplayer Factor: Factor 7: You have guilds, and you can party up
for building, or taking on monsters on a friends plot. Want to go on a
killing spree? You can.

Ease of play: 9: Pick up and play style, daily quests, earning Lumins
( gold ) draws you back in. The building is the most difficult to
master.

Overall Score: 378 out of 1000: I had a lot of fun once I was in,
during your first missions, you will a small sampling of everything
the game has to offer. Beyond exploring, socializing, combat,
harvesting resources, and crafting there is not much else. If your
looking for something less linear, more exploritory, that is like trove and
minecraft, then pick up a copy.

I reccomend this game. Remove all the politics, rage,
and butthurt from the other reviews. ( yes, all the
founders got reemed in the ♥♥♥. I admit it. ) This game could be better.
It is decent for a $9.99 price tag. I have played worse and better for
$9.99. Just somthing for me to play while waiting for the next
jaw dropping, eye popping, mind blowing release.

Great building tools, without gameplay to back them up.

The relatively small size of build sites means no grand projects. The lack of depth to the game means player created dungeons/adventures can't really be challenging.

Not sure why Daybreak removed tiered items from the game, but now there is no player progression at all. By the time you finish the tutorial, you've seen the entirety of what the game has to offer. You never get stronger, access to previously unobtainable materials, or any of the usual things you'd expect from a building/adventuring game. It gets boring incredibly fast.

I bought this game, logged in, and it said I was banned.

Made no sense because I had never played the game before, and it was on a brand new account.

Contacted the support and they told me that the ban would stay. I asked what I did wrong and they just said "broke the terms of service". I explained that I had never played the game before, but they didn't listen. I asked if I could get a refund for the game, and they said no. I don't see how I could have gotten banned when I never even started the game up, but whatever.

Naturally, I was annoyed. I contacted Steam, and they refunded me the game.

Thank you, Steam. Thank you for having better customer service than Landmark.

I own a $30 founder's pack for this game from early access, it's still in my game library. Now that this game is released as B2P for ♥♥♥♥ing $10, instead of F2P like advertised, I can no longer access my account without paying them $10. With that in mind, enjoy my review:

Eat every ♥♥♥♥ in the world, Daybreak.

Edit: The game has been completely removed from my library. Huh.

This game is just bad. I'm hard pressed to even call it a game.

First off let me say I am not one of the people who bought into this as Early Access, I did not spend years waiting for the game and I am judging it here based purely on having purchased it today as a stand alone game for $10. My opinions are not based on any of the Everquest crowds expectations or any of Daybreaks previous statements. I went into this purchase with open mind and a hope that there might be something playable here.

The first 20 minutes:
It took 20 minutes to navigate the mess that is signing up for an account and linking it to steam (using the steam key). This is due to a combination of indecipherable web pages and frequent errors when loading those pages. A good portion of my sign up time was looking at error screens and apologies for their website not working from Daybreak. Then even after having the website tell me everything was complete there was a long delay before the launcher would proceed while it kept telling me to repurchase the game.

Deep breath, open mind, move forward.

Having already previously downloaded the game (about an hour prior to logging in) I would expect steam to keep it up to date (as it does with most other games....). Nope, after finally getting past the launcher: now it wants to patch... and patch the patch... and patch again... sigh.... I'll just go watch TV for 30 minutes while the game figures out what else to download after telling me it was already downloaded......

Deep breath, open mind, move forward...

The game finally finishes patching and I try to launch. The character creation system is as bare bones as I've seen for an MMO in many years. Minimal options for what to make your character look like. Some of the sliders have only 2 options on them and they don't even look that much different.

Thematically there is not even any cohesion to what the game wants to be. You get to choose between fantasy, western and sci-fi outfits. I guess that's what passes for a class system? There doesn't seem to be one, it's just what outfit you are wearing and is apparantly meaningless to the "game" (if you can call it a game... more on that later...)

So, navigating through the lack of customization that is character creation one glaring flaw really stands out. Everything clips. None of the bodies are well put together. Every type of long hair simply falls through the character instead of being sculpted to fall down the characters back. The armor and weapons are so overly large that they do not line up with the animations and simply clip through body parts. It's a very amateur look no matter what you end up going with. Maybe the male bodies were better? I was making a female and the hair issues alone were beyond stupid. Unless you think long hair is supposed to go down through your shoulders and come out in the arm pits. Or when you wipe your forhead the giant gun you are holding clips through your head. Basically no effort was put into making these characters look good or function well with animation.

Moving on.. hoping the "game" itself is better than the character creation.

And que loading.... I got up and made myself a sandwich here. I don't know why a game like this should take so long to load. The only thing I can equate this with is the loading times of some really old software tools. Programs like photoshop or 3D modeling programs that 10 to 15 years ago used to take upwards of 5 to 10 minutes to load up fully. (on modern computers with current gen versions of those programs they no longer even take that long ~ I'm talking about old school loading times)

By the time I was done eating my sandwich the game world was starting to show up on the screen after loading.

OK, time to play, right?

... ... what the heck is this?

First of all, the tutorial pages suck. They couldn't even be bothered to make the words fit correctly on the display pages with some of the words cut off by the border decorations. The tutorials also use a lot of jargon that they expect you to already know within the game: click on ABC to do XYZ.... great. where is ABC? And why do I want to do XYZ? Not explained.

Good luck guessing what buttons you were supposed to push to accomplish your non-goal because your screen is covered in buttons and the mouse overs are sometimes not present or filled with jibberish so you have to try and figure things out by trial and error.

Alright, maybe I can just walk around and see what's here. I mean, this is supposed to be an MMO, right? ...

I think they forgot to put a game in here. So, here I am standing on a big empty platform with nothing and a tutorial that wants me to build things. OK, I can do that, snap together some bits and pieces. Look I made a castle.

But... why? Now I have a castle on a big empty platform sitting in a big empty world with... nothing to do? I guess I can build another castle from premade pieces?

Ugh, this is work that doesn't lead anywhere. Why I am making buildings? No reason. What is there to explore? Nothing. Where is there to go? ... I'll look around... yea?

Lag... more lag... OMFGWTFBBQ how much lag can there be? Why does a big empty world with litterally nothing in it cause so much lag that the game plays like a slide show?

And that's what I asked myself for the next 30 minutes walking around. What is the point of this poorly optimized slide show while walking through a big empty world with nothing to do?

I don't get it. The game has no content, runs poorly and .. and.... is this even a game? Why would anyone subject themselves to this?

In conclusion: this isn't a game. It's a terrible set of world building tools to make ugly buildings in an empty MMO landscape where you don't do anything. And to add insult to injury, it doesn't even bother to run smoothly.

As for it even being labeled "MMO"... pff.... community is just a bunch of kids swearing at each other because they don't have anything better to do. And it's not like there's any point in having a community. There's no game here to play together.

The free mod tools that can be used for world building in Skyrim are a better "game" than this. And I'm talking about just the mod tools without Skyrim.

I hate myself for buying this. I hate myself for playing this. I am filled with remorse that anyone even had the balls to label this a game and put it out for sale. This is one of the worst purchase experiences I've had in my entire life.

I pray that steam refunds still work. I am now going to cry myself to sleep for even giving this game any of my time. Even if I get a refund (which means the hour or so I spent playing cost me no cash); I will regret every second of my time spent thinking or involving myself with this steaming pile of trash that some uneducated ♥♥♥♥♥ decided was somehow a "game" worthy of anyone playing, let alone paying for.

If you have any self respect at all. Do not buy this "game"..

Daybreak gaming customer service is garbage. I can't log into my account with them, and when trying to retrieve it, I get a messaga saying "It looks like you are having problems with Username / Password, you will need to contact customer support for assistance or try again. In the start when this game was still early on and in development I bought into it. I played for a bit in hopes that they would add to it...they did very little though over time I got tired of it and moved on...as most did.

A while later they released an update. When I tried to re-install the game and play it the game denied me access and stated that my license was no longer valid, I contacted support for the publisher and the developer with no response...at all...none.

This game was a testing ground for the next Everquest, other than that it is a rotten game needs to go away. Do not waste $10, do not waste $2...just don't play this game.
