Close Combat is a series you either just get,
or you don't. Gateway to Caen
is the last of the traditional 2D CC games, for better or worse.
Beautifully drawn maps
Varied, interesting, accurate forces (Though, not as much as say the earlier game, Last Stand Arnhem)
Simple UI, improved over previous CC titles
The new 32bit effects are really, really nice for sprites!
Pathfinding still a little weak, much improved though.
Armor doesn't automatically turn to face threats
Out of game menus aren't full resolution, campaign map is a little wonky to navigate. (4:3, switches to your full resolution in the tactical game)
Maps a little too big, Earlier games had somewhat quicker, more vicious fights.
Since Panthers in the Fog
the series has used a Platoon, rather than team based battlegroup selection, this is more realistic, but I really preferred putting together my own battlegroup in earlier titles.
I have some issues getting mods to run, I think this may be a steam thing, the custom shortcut always dumps me out at the loader, rather than in game. Very annoying.
Would like to see this thing go on discount. Also, previous titles on Steam would be nice!
All in all, if you enjoy RTS, want a really historically accurate one, and don't get all huffy any time you see drawn sprites, you'll enjoy GtC.
Also, your Sherman is already on fire, even though you haven't bought the game. Just FYI.
