About This Game

Armed with a simple yet stylish revolver and six devastatingly plump bullets, you must reset the security mainframe to restore order and reap the rewards of a job well done. To succeed in the game, players will need to move carefully and make smart use of their bullets, items, and the environment as rushing into new areas is the fastest way to get killed in the untamed wild of the neon corridors.

Limited Ammunition - Begin each attempt to reach the mainframe with just six bullets for your revolver that must be picked back up after each shot and manually reloaded one by one - make them count.

A Plethora of Items - Discover items and perks to aid you on your way to the mainframe. From homing bombs and coin magnets to a teleporter and high heels, each item will change up your approach. Choose wisely as you can only carry one item unless, of course, you find a backpack.

Shopping and Banking - While death is permanent, money in the bank can live on for future attempts at reaching the mainframe. Make a deposit or withdrawal from one of many conveniently placed automatic banking machine throughout the facility. Or just blow your cash on a shopping spree - up to you.

Life Decisions - Invest in items like Life Insurance or a Last Will that, if carried during the time of your unexpected death, will save your money, bullets, bombs, and keycards for your next attempt.

Aggressive Creatures + Malfunctioning Security - Face down dozens of nasty creatures lurking around the colorful hallways and the now malfunctioning security drones meant to defend against those same creatures.

Really simple and enjoyable. If you like the idea of a simple to grasp roguelite FPS with the nifty feature of being able to pick up fired bullets, I say go for it. Wait for a sale or whatever, but it's pretty fun.

In case you haven't gotten the run-down on the game, here it is:

Though it's labeled as roguelike and it mostly is, it's technically not, because your bank account doesn't die. So you could technically just grind until you get enough money to buy every single thing you need in one playthrough. But that would be lame. You wouldn't do that would you?

After you fire bullets, you can pick them back up from where they land, and put them back in your gun. Bullets and coins will gravitate to you if you get close enough, and you can upgrade that feature.

Shops, enemies, and levels are randomly arranged per playthrough. Shop inventories are also unpredictable.

Main thing I wish this game had was a difficulty option. But if you want hard mode, just get drunk or high and play it. Legally of course.

Co-op or deathmatch would also be nice.

As enjoyable as the gameplay is, I can't recommend it. Many people (even with powerful rigs) have huge stuttering issues that get progressively worse as the levels go by. The final bossfight becomes impossible because of them, since at that point of the game the stuttering evolves to at least a second long freezes every 3-4 seconds. For a rogue-lite that punishes death pretty heavily, that's a pretty big issue, yet the developer has abandoned trying to fix it.

In a heavily flooded roguelite FPS market, Heavy Bullets fails to rise above to anything memorable. Is it terribly bad? No. Would I tell all my friends to run out and buy it? Absolutely not.

Every FPS roguelite has a gimmick or some novel mechanic. In this case, I would say its having limited ammo and having the ability to pick up/retrieve your bullets. The artwork is also fairly interesting, but then again thats true for most of this titles competitors:

Tower of Guns, Ziggurat, Eldritch, Paranautical Activity, and Reciever, just to name a few. The list goes on and on, right? If you want to compete in a flooded market, you MUST really bring something special to the table. As I said before, Heavy Bullets is not bad per-se, but why do I need another one of these titles?

Pros:
+Artwork is interesting enough
+Controls work fine
+Its cheap

Cons:
-Not nearly addicting enough for me to keep playing
-Everything is too standard, down to the vending machine 'shops'. I know this is a roguelite and we need those elements, but I am asking developers to start thinking outside the box more. Its no longer enough to add one or two different mechanics to these indie titles.
-I hear theres not much content as far as game length, but I didn't finish it.

Get it in a bundle or on the cheap, but otherwise I'd check out any number of other alternative roguelite games - I've reviewed several of the ones I listed above.

Peace,
