About This Game

The Culling Of The Cows is a side-scrolling shooter / tower defence game. You will take the role of Sammy, a soliloquizing schizophrenic farmer with a self prophesied mission to lay waste to the disease spreading over his farm.

With his dusty old 12 gauge at his side and god at his back, Sammy isn’t going to be taking too kindly to the infectious chaos of the big city’s leaking its way out into wild country. When all the lunacy started Sammy consulted God on what he should do, and the response was. KILL THEM! KILL THEM ALL!!!!

As others have said, this game feels and plays like a cheap, uninspired flash game. I really don't understand why it has 75% positive reviews; gameplay gets stale by the third level, art is awkward and tacky, main character is the embodiment of stinky Texan redneck stereotypes... I've put 3.3 hours into it, completed 100%, achievements included.

Got it for free and I tell you I'd be angry if I had paid for it. Avoid.

Simple, short indie shooter.

I feel £9 it is a bit pricey considering how short and simple the game is, thankful that I got mine in one of the eight bundles it has so far appeared in. This perhaps irks me the most, had it been £1 game I may have been more forgiving.
The graphics are overlaid single scenes, nothing special, new or particularly interesting. Sound okay though I ended up muting after a while. Weapons, upgrades etc. seemed superfluous to me as the game is easy enough without.
Achievements super easy and drop with progress.
For me the replay value is 0.

You kill cows ... thats it.

You have a shotgun and 4 ammo types. First one is regular and is unlimited. Other 3 have to be bought.
You can reload one bullet at a time. 8 bullets is max. Prepare for mashing the R button.

God can drop you supply drops with buffs or coins. You can use coins to buy ammo or upgrades for your shotgun.

You also have 4 abilities with cooldown.

There are 10 types of enemies (mostly cows).

Enemies come in waves and want to kill you.

One background image for each level - mostly static.

Can't recommend this. It's boring.

If anything this game is going to be a hit and miss affair with you, as it did with me. The game is essentially a defence title, with an assortment of monsters rushing into the barn, and as the farmer it is your job to prevent the said monstrosities from getting in. If you fail a certain number of times, the stage is over and you have to restart again.

To mix up the formula some monsters act a little different to one another, along with varying amounts of hit points. To aid the chaotic game play, players can also summon a few tactical skills on the field, along with some limited and temporary upgrades to the shotgun.

Repeat the same formula with increasing difficulties for dozens of stages and you get the general idea of how this goes. Every rarely you’ll get to fight a boss or two, but they’re way too simple to pose a challenge.

The art style is hand drawn and mostly consistent, like the game play that may not strike everyone’s fancy either, but it sat well enough for me. The biggest problem I had with the game was that it lacked a sense of progression, you’ll upgrade your weapon level after level, but they never stick. There is also little point to divert from the main path and complete every stage, since there is nothing to unlock or to accomplish.

For the low price though, I would recommend it for a decent distraction.
