About This Software

GestureWorks Gameplay is a low-cost utility that enables users to define their own controls schemes for many games on Windows 8. Version 3 of Gameplay offers a multitouch GUI and enhanced in-game touch gesture response. Gameplay is compatible with Steam’s In-Home Streaming. Download the free trial to see if Gameplay is compatible with your favorite games today!

Offering a robust set of features, Gameplay allows not just for gamepad and keyboard emulation, but for whole new ways of playing. The utility supports mouse and keyboard input. These can be mapped to onscreen objects, like D-pads, joysticks, buttons, and switches, but can also be mapped to a variety of multitouch gestures. Gamers can simply link a game matching Gameplay’s requirements and enjoy touch controls as an overlay on top of their game.

The Android Remote feature allows gamers to turn their Android devices into customizable gamepads and connect via Bluetooth to any Windows 8 device running GestureWorks Gameplay - even Windows 8 devices without touchscreens. Multiplayer setups are also possible with Android Remotes or other peripherals, allowing local co-op and competitive play. The Android Remote also features accelerometer support so that motion controls can be mapped to the accelerometer in the Android device.

The new HCI Pack DLC allows gamers to use a host of new HCI devices to create rich custom interaction schemes. Custom voice commands can be added to games that previously only used limited keyboard and mouse input. High fidelity 3D motion and wearable sensor gestures can be added to games to complement existing interactions or entirely replace control methods. Users can even blend input methods such as touch and voice controls or motion and touch to create hybrid controllers that open fresh new ways to experience and explore PC games.

Gameplay is great on tablets and other Windows 8 touchscreen devices, making gaming more mobile without sacrificing games that are not already touch-enabled. The concept of an editable and shareable “Virtual Controller” enables users to publish their own creations to the Gameplay community. There are over 600 Virtual Controllers created by community available for download.

This software is realy, realy bad. Works awful with all of my favourite games. For example:
The Binding of Isaac Rebirth - you can't play game normaly without AWSD binded to joystick, and this software can't do that thing.
Stardew Valley - there was some graphics artifacts on all buttons and screen was blinking alot, not playable at all.
SpaceChem - can't tap anything.
Doesn't work with DosBox.
Just waste of money. Very disappointing.

Does not work on Windows 10, tryed multiple games, the overlay dont show on any of them, can see a lot of people have the same problem and there is no update from the developers on this issue, or any from what i can see. Be causious, also if you run the program, it runs in the background after you close it. Just be aware of that with the steam refund policy.

Dont buy this if you have Windows 10 or plan top get it.

Hello, app looks solid, 2 questions:

What does "Connection is valid" mean in the lower bottom corner?

Also, when I restarted it, it says now "Invalid executable path"

What do those both mean?

Has great potential, but it needs a lot of improvement before i can recommend. It crashes too many games or just plain doesn't show up. On the games it does work with, it eats up precious CPU time, which is scarce to begin with if you're using it on a windows tablet, like it's designed for. Works well enough with portal 2 on tablet integrated graphics. I've yet to get it to stop crashing Halo.

Why I got this software? I was trying to find games that had low system requirements and games that could be played with touchscreen. This limited my choises to a handful of games. Old games were not playable with touchscreen and newer ones had too high system requirements.

GestureWorks Gameplay solved this problem. I can enable a virtual keyboard while in game, and use virtual controller or even voice commands.

Biggest problem with this software is the learning curve. To get out most of it, you need to spend half an hour to familiarize yourself with the options. Most of the people who got it and gave it negative reviews did not do that. The price is also cheap.

Awesome software! A little tricky to get it to work, but when it does it's amazing!

For those who want to use this on Steam In-House Streaming here's a quick and dirty guide:

1) Launch Gestureworks Gameplay.

2) Uncheck every other game and create a new profile.

3) Edit the new profile and click on settings on the top right.

4) Click "Browse File System" and locate "streaming_client.exe" in "C:\Program Files\Steam".

5) Close out of Gestureworks Gameplay window, but make sure it's still running in the system tray. (You can't stream a game if it's running because steam only lets you run one thing at a time.)

Now just make sure Steam is running on your main PC and your tablet. Make sure your games on your tablet show up as "Stream" and press the stream button and it should launch your games and Gestureworks buttons should show up soon after!

Enjoy!

A few months ago I thought my gaming days were over when a bear bit most of my left hand off. Recently I was lamenting the loss of my hand, and how there were a lot of new games I wish had existed in the time when I had both hands. My co-worker suggested I try gameplay since it allows you to customize your controller to suit whatever layout best works for you. Well, I just downloaded it and already I’m playing some of my old favorite games from my library. It took some getting used to (so does having a greedy portion of your hand bitten off by a bear LOL!) but, within a few minutes I was playing like before my accident. I imagine it would be even better in the hands, pardon my pun, of anyone with a desire to map a lot of keyboard operations to the screen.

It's a very useful program for Tablet PC owners. It supports most of the games and the number keeps growing. Great possibilities for setting up and creating your own controller for your favorite games. I am among the beta testers now, and I can say that GWG will certainly get better in the future.

When I first installed this, I was getting errors on startup. I felt like I just wasted my cash. Fortunately, the bug got immediately fixed by devs and, well, it kinda went downhill from there - instead of doing my job, I spent many hours trying out various games and playing with the settings, before the battery on my T100 finally drained. If you're a gamer and you have Windows 8 powered tablet, then this software is a must-have. It's highly customizable, supports many games and works just fine. Mind blown!

It's a nice concept and got it working perfectly with Ducktales Remastered but it has a steep learning curve if you want to try and create your own mappings and customizations. I have yet to successfully create one for a few games where there are no templates.

Not sure if it ever will be possible but if you care about achievements you can't unlock them while using GestureWorks. Because it hooks into Steam, Steam believes you're playing GestureWorks and not the game itself so achievements don't unlock. I hope they can figure out a way to unlock them during play but wanted to put this in the review because if you don't read the fine print you may miss that detail.

I wish Steam offered an option beyond yes/no recommendations. Kind of like a Not Yet or maybe. I cannot recommend this app if you are not technically inclined or if you care about Steam achievements or rarely game on touch devices.

If your touch device is where you game the most, then yes, worth the $10 right now.

Overall though I'm going to choose No in my recommendation because I believe more and more developers are going to be implementing touch controls into their games. Civilization V, Trine 2, PinballFX, Total War Rome II, Octodad, Broken Age all have native touch controls and a lot of others work fine even without native controls like The Witcher.

I work with people that have developmental disadvantages and need extra sensory inputs. This software allows me to customize tablet overlays specificaly for each of my consumers needs, whether it be with a standard console controller overlay or touch inputs, or a combination of the two. I can emulate gamepads to be on one specific side, or move them around depending on the need of the consumer.

I found the UI to be sleeker and nicer to use than other programs like Joy2Key. Dragging and dropping to set up a customized overlay is simple and easy after a bit of messing around with the software. If that's beyond you they have hundreds of overlays available to download that other users have created.

This software sees constant updates as well, another advantage other similier programs lack. The devs are active and helpful on the forums, and while I have never had a problem yet their prescence on the community forums is hard to miss.

This software isn't perfect, it has DRM so you need to launch Steam to execute it, however you can close Steam and the software will continue to run just fine. I suggest adding the game you want to use this on to the Steam launcher if it's a non Steam title. I also noticed my stylus isn't responsive on some titles when I use this, and have to use my finger.

All in all I recommend this product, if you have a touch screen or know anyone with a developmental disadvangate this program is a neccessity. It just is. Gestureworks really is the best out there at the moment at doing what it does.

Gameplay is awesome! It allows me to play a lot of my favorite games on my WIndows tablet. Last time I took a vacation I had a 3 hour layover in an airport. Instead of having to pull out my laptop and hook up a mouse, I was able to create a quick Virtual Controller using Gameplay. I started playing some games and suddenly the 3 hours flew past me. I was having so much fun I almost missed my flight! I would strongly recommend this product to anyone looking to combine mobile and PC gaming. It’s a must have!

I would also like to say that Gameplay has amazing customer support. The one time I was experiencing an issue, the devs responded to my email within hours and immediately got to work fixing my issue. Not many products come with customer service as good as that.

10/10 would recommend.

Given the cost of the application versus the utility it provides, I would recommend this for anyone who enjoys getting the most out of their gaming.

PROS:
-Allowed me to control games with my hands and voice.
-Gives me one more reason to buy a Surface 3.

CONS:
-Some games don't work BUT the devs are very responsive.

First, I must really commend their customer service. In the process of migrating from version 1 to 2, I didn’t get my Steam Key for some reason. I emailed them and they helped me get a new one, very hassle free.

GWG is very nice - I use it to play some games on my Surface Pro - But you should mind that it won’t work with all games. Also, mind that you will be always limited to games with somewhat simple controls.

Anyway, now that they released a Demo version, I see no reason why you shouldn’t give a try.

By the way, for playing Browser games and other simpler stuff that isn't full screen, I’d recommend you take a look at VirtualGamepad by PalmTime (currently in Beta version, not on Steam store). I have both this and GWG installed and they complement each other’s limitations very well.

The new version added compatibility to many more games so I am now happy to say that I recommend the program. Obviously some things will never work, and tablets for the most part are only really suited to playing older titles that may fall into that category.

If Steam had a neutral rating I would have used it at the beginning, but now with the improvements in the new version it is a true positive recommend.

Previous post:

I have only been able to get GestureWorks Gameplay to function on one of the ten or so games that I have tried.

The best way that I would suggest to aproch this program is to look for the virtual controllers on thier website to see if that game will work with GestureWorks.

It is a great idea that I hope will work better as they patch the program, but I would have to say save your money for now.

I wish thre
