Story


The scent of murder hangs in the air. It is the year 1452 and a city under siege is desperate. You receive a letter, bearing the king’s seal, begging for your help. A once beautiful, peaceful place is now a tormentor’s paradise; dark, bleak and heavy with fear.

You venture along the road to your destination, determined to solve the mystery terrorizing the citizens of Istanbul. Thousands of bodies line the roads, impaled on bloody poles, ravaged & torn, lying limp; faces contorted in anguish. If this is just the path to the city, what lies within its walls?

A gruesome scene welcomes you; hollow sockets live where eyes once saw their murderer coming for them. Torsos of young children ripped open, their bodies hung like criminals; blood filled pools in the Cistern house rotting bodies, throats cut, fingers missing. Dank Catacombs lined with broken bones containing new members, heads daggered, burn marks over eyes. Blood streaked Basilica walls, disembowelments and beheadings. The brutality is too much to bear. What – or who -is murdering the innocent lives of these people!? You hunt through the night, intent on finding your foe, bringing an end to the grisly massacre.

As the Explorer, you have knowledge of the land; you are fast, on target and adventurous. You leave no stone unturned in your pursuit. Will you be the enemy Spy or will you be the Emissary?

The Mage is skilled, wise and supernatural. Become the the high Priest who can be counted on to cast spells to protect the people of Istanbul or choose to be the Sorcerer and release your inner demon fueling your thirst for destruction.

The Soldier; fierce, strong, and none better with a blade. Protecting people is your Knightly duty, with your feminine intuition & compassionate heart leading you to do the right thing for the kingdom. But perhaps you would rather seek to unlock the dark side and become the Assassin. The choice is yours; will you seek justice or wickedness?

Each character unlocks unique levels and secret weapons. Feel the weight of your decisions and change the story of your game with each turn. Your actions will determine the future of your people, saving their souls or surrendering them to evil.

Vlad the Impaler is a text-based RPG game. There are 3 classes to choose from which are explorer, warrior, and mage. There is a karma level which will change your main class into one of two subclasses. For example, if you are a warrior and did mainly good karma choices in the game, you will become a paladin. On the other hand, if chose mainly evil karma choices, you will become an assassin. The impact on the game becoming one of two subclasses seem to be none. The choices, good to evil or neutral, seem to have their own unique rewards/penalties which will add, for example, stat to your strength. There are 6 chapters with 3 "missions" (each where you will make a choice) per chapter. In the very end, finally, you get to make choices on how to fight Vlad the Impaler. Seemingly the only combat you will do in this text-based RPG game.

At first walkthrough, it was very interesting experience but on the second and third walkthroughs, I was going through exact same missions (You can't pick all the same missions due to limit of missions per chapter but nevertheless, the missions do not change) and thus I found a significant hinderance to replayability value of the game. For anyone who are looking into this game, you are likely to lose all the value in playing after 4th or 5th walkthrough. As I have started skipping dialogues because I have already done the missions, some more than twice, before.

Due to lack of replayability value, I am not recommending this game. If this game is heavily discounted and you are looking for a few hours of valuable experience, then this game becomes barely recommendable. Expect more than few hours of valueable experience, just walk away from this game.

This is an amazing point and click adventure/interactive visual novel. It offers a lot of choices that lead to original and unique storytelling. The game is very well made for the most part. The game offers actually spooks and scares as in hauntingly creepy imagery that's truly beautifully (I think hand drawn) drawn and pieced together. The game is like most Nosferatu and Dracula film adaptions but offers more realistic scenarios that aren't too unreal, and the game really has a great pace at surprising you with great direction. However the game does have it's flaws the main one is simply this: THE GAME IS TOO DAMN SHORT. Once you complete the story you can do the other two and do quite a few different run thoughs but it gets old. And the game could have been much longer but it's not so on a critical scale I'd give it a 8.5/10 and personal scale 9.5/10. I reccomend this to anyone who just wants a game with not much dedication to beat, a stop motion comic like experience and to almost anybody especially to anyone who loves Tim Burton films, or gothic films in general.

Vlad the Impaler is a choose your own Adventure-style, text based
RPG game. Graphically the game is fair and the music does a good job of
conveying the atmosphere. One thing that makes this game different is the
lack of physical combat; game moves are based on the strength of the
players stat points.

The game is broken up into chapters. While the story is well done,
the results of your actions break down directly into how many ability points
you have and where. As I played the game, I found myself choosing missions
not by what looked interesting, but by which ones I could win based on what
stats I could gain. It took away from immersion in the game. You gain or lose
stats based upon your decisions in the missions, and while you play to earn
stats, unfortunately your stats play no part in the smaller missions.

If you enjoy a text based game and aren't interested in a combat element,
this game may be one you enjoy, but if you are looking for a game where your
skills are integrated into the game and have an impact on the missions, I would
avoid this one.

Overall for me, this game came really close to really being a great game,
but sadly they missed the mark. The story is good enough, but everything else
was sub-par.

First time i saw this game, i was like ,"Awesome! A game about Vlad The Imapler! It must be epic!"
And i was right, it is epic, if you like a well made story, you will like this game!

Dark. Dark enough to enjoy; I find it atmospherically inspiring. It does have some grammar errors and a couple of bugs. There is enough here though, to sink 5 bucks into amd be satisfied unless video game novels violate some sensibility you may have.

This game is tideous. Let me make it clear: I love horror genre, adventure games and this dark theme. But this game is very superficial and not authentic at all. full of cliches.

But this is not the main problem. The game play is very boring. The music is super monotonous. There is no logical line between events, they are like randomly scattered events. Even this super tedious gameplay is buggy! for instance, in one encounter, 2 out of 3 possible options were exactly the same!

In less than one hour, I reached to the Sultan's chamber or hall or anything in which the sultan lives, although I have no clue how I could end up there because at the first scene it is said that Sultan was to somehow quarantined. Then I lost very stupidly.

Just to mentioning it again, The music is specially bad. It is phenomenally bad!


Moreover, on my retina display, the game runs awfully. The texts are hardly readable, and you know, the game has nothing more than text!

Spare your money and seek for a better game!

What could have been an interesting alternative to the typically anime saturated visual novel genre is unfortunately kneecapped by the mechanics and system itself. While there are skill checks for certain decisions, the proficiency in them is determined by two separate attribute scores which can be increase or decrease depending on your choices during events. The decreases are incredibly obnoxious, especially if your choices are being influenced by whether you need to aim for a high or low morality.

Most disappointingly there is something a class system which unfortunately seems to only influence your initial attribute scores: there is no change in dialogue or choices for each class which severely hampers potential replayability. The same goes for the storyline, in that you are free to do as much discovery and side-questing for the fifteen turns, but eventually you are dragged into the main storyline and have a limited palette of options to make to determine the ending.

Tough to recommend as there just isn't quite enough here and after a few playthroughs, successful or otherwise, you will find yourself tired of the game and cycling through the same dialogue repeatedly. The lack of a mid-game save function does not help either.

Bought some fallafels and some baklava, threw some flowers at monsters, then told off Vlad the impaler, then he killed me

10/10 would get impaled again

This visual-novel style choose-your-own-adventure game is excellently done. Lone Wolf meets hardboiled.

If you like paving your own path in order to root out a mysterious evil, this game is a must-purchase title.

If you bought this game and you have the "black screen bug" like me, you're ♥♥♥♥ out of luck. the developers dont intent to patch this bug up eventho its a game breaking bug. There is no solution for it. You wasted your money.

Remember those "Choose You're Own Adventure" books we all read as kids? This game is just like that except with achievments. :D Perfect for those who like RPGs/Graphic Novels/Choose Your Own Adventure Novels.

Alternatively, the storyline is fast, compelling, and pretty straight forward. I would highly recomend because I'm a nerd and like these sort of things. I won't get board replaying the game over and over. There's three different people you can be as well as two different morals that you can choose to follow between each character. There's also multiple ways to finish off Vlad. So, it will be interesting to play through multiple times. :)

An interesting, atmospheric graphic novel [CYOA]. I found the text sometimes a bit hard to read, but otherwise this game is well worth the money. Especially if you want an engaging storyline, stylish b&w graphics and a journey... that can be easily be replayed with different choices.

A text adventure game with a few grammatical errors...a text adventure should be completly free of these.

Has technical issues, like I tried to alt tab out and it messed up my resolution where I could restore it (because the menu went off the screen) also would load into just a black screen unless I verified the steam files before launching.

But the biggest offense is...the world doesn't seem to respond to any of your actions. I helped someone out and they granted me access to a library, but I never got an option to use this library to investigate or study. One situation caused me to seemily fall under a curse and maybe kill someone, but I proceed with no mention of it and no effect except stat reductions...which I think serve a purpose in the final battle, but I failed before I could get there so I have no idea what their uses were (just like my dodge and throw dagger skill). Everything seems so arbitrary. I had the option, 10 days in, to look for a translator of symbols I found on the first day. Why couldn't I have done that sooner? One chapter opens with me on a rooftop sword fighting someone, with no introduction to how things escalated to this event and no explantion afterwards. There are choices that I see no reason why I would ever pick them. There is an abundance of things for me to choose so why would I choose things like "wander aimlessly" or "grab a falafel"?

The art is decent enough. Certainly not enough to save it though.

This is an interesting little game that combines a choose-your-own-adventure type of story with RPG elements. The idea is pretty freaking cool, as well as the setting and atmosphere. However, I have a few problems with this game.

1) The RPG elements are not explained at all. The stats are self explanatory for the most part, but it still would have have been nice to know what each stat did for you specifically.

2) The class and morality system, while cool in concept, don't feel too distinguished. Outside of a few choices that offer different flavor text and some different stats, it is entirely possible to build your stats in such a way as to transform yourself into a different class completely. The classes just didn't feel too different in the end. I also didn't understand what the consequences were to being entirely good or evil.

3) I kept running into a specific bug that froze my game on multiple occasions. This only occurred when I was quickly moving through the exposition, but it made it annoying because I wanted to move through text I had already read as fast as possible and this bug prevented that. Also, it seemed some words were missing or misplaced in certain parts of the game.

The saving grace of this game was seeing all the different consequences of the actions you take. Trying to complete this game gave me a newfound determination. I would love to see this style of gameplay more refined and fleshed out. There is a good concept in here. I was gifted this and it would totally worth being free. It might be worth 5 bucks, more worth it on sale.

It's an interesting game ... for it's genre. After enjoying it for several playthroughs, I understood that I actually don't like this genre. I mean, it's okay to play it once or twice (max 10 minutes each), but is there really a replay value? I rather buy a novel on the subject and enjoy that instead ^^ getting the achievements is easy in this one.

这游戏可以说提供了一个很好的反面范例,为什么明明有一个好的创意,一个好的包装,结果还会是一款失败作

这个游戏承诺了很多,定位是有RPG要素的互动小说,游戏一开始有三个职业可以选择,有六种基本属性外加魅力,还有道德值的设定,主角在游戏中期还会根据道德值进行一次转职,于是一共有六种进阶职业,游戏内还有24种特殊武器可以用来帮助玩家进行Boss战,是不是满满的RPG感觉?游戏舞台设定在中世纪的伊斯坦布尔,Boss是大家熟悉的穿刺公弗拉德(德古拉),玩家在城中区域调查会遇到各种随机事件,随着玩家的选择会带来属性和道德上的调整,以为最后的决战作准备,配合上手绘素描CG带来了极其浓厚的哥特风,让人看着截图和介绍就有种买买买的冲动~

可惜玩起来并不有趣……

首先故事很短,没什么转折,简单粗暴,开始只是随便逛逛,穿刺公出现以后就来战个痛,一般情况下一周目也就1小时不到,而且里面的大幅CG也没几张,有种受骗上当的感觉……主线故事真的非常短,大部分时间其实是花在阅读和处理15个随机遭遇上,当然,这些遭遇和主线完全无关(遭遇数量倒是挺多的)——于是故事整体上就显得非常杂乱,同时又因缺乏铺垫和联系而显得略无趣,文笔的好坏反正我不是母语使用者也看不出什么名堂,所以我觉得单纯作为VN来评价也是比较失败的一部作品

另外就是RPG系统了,完全就是噱头,首先职业和属性对事件几乎毫无影响(初始职业不同的话有几句描述会被有变化,但也仅此而已了),这让人很沮丧,其实我很期望在事件中遇到诸如STR check之类的RPG要素,但除了最终的Boss战会用到属性检定以外,完全就是一个摆设……职业仅仅决定了主角的图片,起始属性,以及最终战的战斗招式(只有最后面对穿刺公会才会进入战斗,而招式不同意味着的不同的属性检定,以及战斗时不同的文字描述),感觉对游戏的影响过少,非常鸡肋

我上面有说最终战会用到属性检定吗?其实玩过后会发现通过属性检定获胜来战胜穿刺公是不太可能的,因为砍伤德古拉对于属性数值的要求比较苛刻,而属性主要通过触发遭遇来增减,玩家一不知道会遇到什么事件,二不清楚选择会带来什么影响(游戏不支持SL,当然通过多周目玩家可以自己记下选择的结果),所以到德古拉面前通过硬碰硬过检定把它砍死的概率是很低的——至少我试了很多次,没有一次可以用“砍中德古拉三刀”来解决问题

那要怎么赢呢?游戏有三种胜利方式,除了硬碰硬以外,还可以用嘴炮和一击必杀神器:嘴炮很简单,玩家除了6项基本属性之外,有一个专门分出来用大字体注目的魅力属性,只要玩家的魅力高于等于8(起始是5,提3点就够了,对所有职业适用,比提基本属性轻松多了),在德古拉面前使用嘴炮就能轻松获胜……然后是一击必杀神器,玩家在前往德古拉居所以前苏丹会发给玩家一个高级武器,每种职业有8种共24种,似乎是随机发放的,而其中有6把,附魔后可以在决战时将德古拉直接杀死——这游戏告诉我们,傻傻练武不如去练好嘴炮,嘴炮不行就去弄套神装——这种设计的平衡性极其糟糕,进一步削减了职业和属性的用处

总之,吸引不了人的故事+鸡肋的角色扮演系统,如果喜欢VN,在Steam上有很多更好的选择,这游戏能值得推荐的我感觉只有美工而已……不过话说回来美工确实好,哥特风大赞,似乎BGM也是出自大牌之手,配上这样的游戏本体真是浪费……
