Spent a lot of time offline with this game on my laptop, decided to transfer files over to the PC... and presto.
Lost the files. Lost the time put into the game. Lost the ability to actually run the game in a window.
I have a 1360 x 768 screen, so I tend to run every game WINDOWED. Something that I can't do anymore since the update.

Yeah, this is a bit late but I've been combing through my library after trying to run half the crap I purchased a while back and I'm not happy.

A free roaming shmup with very simple but smooth gameplay (control with wasd and shoot with mouse), simple but clean art style, very old-school early 2000s indie shmup soundtrack (you'll remember those days with the soundtrack, really), and roguelite/rpg parts (collecting gold to buy upgrade for your ships, billions things to grind, quests to collect 50 bear asses).

Basically, simple, but solid. Cheap as well.

Sweezy Gunner is one of the best twin stick shooters of all time. Great variety of upgrades, enemies, environments and weapons. The Zelda light, dungeon crawler, level design and shops combine to create a truly unique experience in this genre. While the art and audio presentation is somewhat lacking, the fantastic gameplay more than makes up for any shortcomings. This is an absolute must have for fans of the twin stick shooter genre. GG!

Played for the first time long time ago and had little fun. Then because of some update our saves got deleted. Started it once again and finished lately and now I know - the more you play it the more boring it is. Also have few annoying issues, like lack os autosave option or when something valuable lands in a place where you can't reach but that's probably everything. I expected probably too much from this indie game and was disappointed, looking at all those positive reviews. You can try it out, when it will be once again in some cheap bundle or at some huge sale.

Lovely game. Music is great, handles well, upgrade system is fantastic, perfect level of difficulty. Bosses are interesting and challenging, and can even be gone back to for more attempts even after a victory. Map is pretty big as well, with several seperate dungeons within the map. I feel like I absolutely got my money's worth, and I'm not even 70% done with the game yet! Would buy again, almost wish there was a hard copy so I could put it on a shelf with my collection.

**EDIT**
Have not yet even tried challenge mode, been focusing on the story mode.

Really didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did.

Only small issues I had were having to go back to old maps to get secrets after being able to have access to them and the default soundtrack which got super repetitive (I know I can buy other songs but they're all expensive and have to spend hours to get new ones at the start).

A surprisingly solid shoot-em'up / bullet hell without many flaws.

Pros:
- The different power-ups feel interesting because of their varied effects.
- Enemy variety is big enough to not feel stale as well, also each boss has unique attacks and attack patterns.
- The upgrades for your "ship" are simple, nothing special but they are noticeable enough to make you feel stronger with every upgrade, aka they get the job done.
- Good game length and final boss is difficult enough to feel like a proper final battle.
- If you like the type of up-beat music this game uses at all times your ears are in for a treat.

Cons:
- With all the screen clutter the rather inconspicious enemy projectiles sometimes vanish from your sight if you don't pay really close attention, leading to moments of confusion as to what hit you (especially frustrating in the Challenge mode)
- Getting all the upgrades / monster cards takes quite some time, so trying to 100% this can feel tedious towards the end (although it's fine until you get there).
- Game is a bit on the easy side for those who are good at bullet-hell games (although challenge mode is a lot more difficult).
- Had a (very) few weird crashes. Saves work fine but you better not forget to manually save from time to time!
- Game doesn't auto-save or anything when you go to the credits after the final boss. Had to re-do the entire last dungeon (quite frustrating, so remember to save often as said above).

This game is an easy recommendation if you like bullet-hell games. It's not perfect but except for a possible random crash it doesn't have any significant flaw either so you're in for some good entertainment.

I played the game before it was released on Steam. It took around 7 h to beat it.

I was looking at libraries with games and wondering which game to pick for my next review. I wanted something colorful, something casual and then I saw Sweezy Gunner – top down bullet hell shoot 'em up with metrodivania elements. And it's awesome !

In the game you drive a tank … with tires. Or maybe it's another vehicle. It doesn't matter. This tank is really cute, but don't let this full you, Sweezy Gunner is a beast. Your task is to find what happened to the people terraforming some planet. The story is non existent, but this doesn't matter. What matter is the gameplay and it is really good. The controls are simple - WASD keys for moving, left mouse button you shoot, the right mouse button for activating a shield and spacebar – for entering all the menus. You have one basic weapon thru the whole game. Fortunately they are 30 power-ups to spice the gameplay. Some are passive, other change your weapon, certain can stack on each other. Then nothing can stop you, you become like a real tank.

In the begging you move slow, so are your bullets, only three bars of life. So what can you do? Well you can buy upgrades of course. They can be acquired in two different ways – by finding shops scattered around the world and by killing monsters. For unlocking upgrades in the shop, which you buy with money from dead enemies, you need to collect giant golden coins called Sweezy Coins. Other thing you can do here is to take jobs for money. They consist of collecting stuff from dead enemies.

When you kill monsters sometimes fall a card, which give you information about them. Destroying enough of one type, you studied them and it will let you by upgrade. Every bosses in the game is nicely design and challenging. After each boss you will get special ability, that grants you access to previously unavailable parts of the map.

The levels in Sweezy Gunner are great. You are gunning down monster in a grass fields, in a desert, in dungeons full with lava and toxic waste. Every level has a different song. Speaking of music, the soundtrack is amazing. 11 really good song.

Here come the negative stuff. The biggest problem is the missing video option. I'm using 23 inch monitor and the game looks little bit pixely. It's a shame, because the art style is really good. The other issue is the lack of any information about the skills. Here is an example. You can jump from checkpoint to checkpoint, when you buy the upgrade for that, but it isn't explain how to do it. It is done by opening the map and clicking on some dungeon entrance (they are the checkpoints). The developer said, that he will fix the lack of information, but for a number of reasons, he cannot add resolution option.

But non of this prevent me of enjoying the game. Tight controls, good level design, good variety of enemies, amazing soundtrack, a little bit on the easy side, but if you die it is entirely your fault. In the later levels it's really a bullet hell. And if the campain isn't enough for you you could try Survival mode and recently added Challenges. I really enjoy the game, so I recommend it.

Do you like bullet hells but get bored with just scrolling to the right or to the top all the time? Would you like an arcadey bullet hell that also has quests, bosses, temporary AND permanent upgrades, and open world exploration? Welp, here you go.

The only complaint I could possibly say about the game is that there is an issue with edges where if your little robot character touches the edge of a wall or object, he tends to get stuck to it instead of sliding along it. This little snag will definitely get you shot a couple of times.

It's super simple. Not at all complex. But a great game for just mindlessly shooting and dodging.

My first impression of this game was not good. But after a while, I realized Sweezy Gunner is a lot like an old Commodore Amiga mouse/keyboard game. It's a bit drawn out and repetitive but that's how Amiga games were back then. Console games were a usually bit bit more tight in their level design. With this oine you can relax a chip away at your own pace.
I'd prefer to play it with an Xbox 360 controller. I know it's not as accurate for aiming but other keyboard/mouse games have managed to pull it off.

Wow... just wow...

Truth be told, I wasn't expecting much. I mean, I had free time, this game had a small file size so I can download it quickly despite my net, so I figured, why not? And why not indeed! I was blown away, figuratively AND literally at the later part of the game.

It's just quick, fun, mindless thrill. The action is frantic, bullets can fill up the screen if you don't get rid of the enemies quick. Shoot them down before they shoot you! Outrun the enemy bullets, weave through them. Much akin to a bullet hell game, your hit spot is tiny, and you can maneuver through the enemy bullets... if you're careful! Precision is the key here. I would categorize this game as bullet hell meets Zelda. Old Zelda... think Link to the Past, etc.

The upgrade system is rather unique too... instead of upgrades being available and purchasable the moment you have the cash to afford it (in other words, jut grind money), there's 3 different types of upgrades.

First one is monster-based. Each monster offers their own unique upgrade badge that you can buy once you get a card off them (low chance drop) AND killed enough of them to fill your "Knowledge meter" of them. Once both conditions are fulfilled, you can see what badge they offer and whether you wanna buy it... this is where cash comes in. It's a bit of a grind, especially because of how many you need to kill and the low chance of card drop, but hey, it makes each monster unique, even the lowly slime.

The second system is via unique coins called Sweezy Coins (what else?) and once again, cold hard cash. They're scattered throughout the world, some needing later upgrades before you can reach them. Getting a certain amount of them unlock upgrades you can purchase from the many shops you pass throughout the world.

Last but not least, there's heart containers (hello, Zelda fans). Getting 4 will increase your heart total by 1, and just like Sweezy Coins, they're scattered throughout the world and yes, just like the above, you'll need later upgrades before you can reach some of them.

Brace for action, get ready to dodge bullets, be prepared to kill enemies quick, and most importantly, have a hella good time. And oh, die a lot of times too while at it.

A shoot 'em up, frantic shooting, bullet dodging, action-blending game that offers fun and challenges to everyone; you gotta shoot everything that is on your way, collect coins to purchase upgrades, pick up power-ups, defeat bosses to obtain new skills, explore a vast open-world and acquire lots of unlockables.

This is a game I would highly recommend to shoot 'em up fans, although I admit I'm not very experienced with this genre, this is one of those games that got me addicted for hours, the non-stop action is something that every fan of this genre loves and I'm certain that you will not regret your purchase.

+Frantic non-stop action
+Challenging boss battles
+Lots of upgrades and power-ups
+Vast open-world
+Easy to learn

-No keybinding options

80/100 Superb

Well this one sure came out of left field. My owning this game is the result of just another "vote=key", and prior to getting the email announcing its release and my free copy, I had completely forgotten about it. Thank goodness I took the time to install and sample its gameplay, because this is one greenlight title that is very much worthy of actually being on Steam.

Sweezy Gunner is a bullet hell shooter, but unlike your typical shmup, this game lacks any sort of automatic scrolling screen or rage inducing bullet patterns with extremely specific safe zones. Rather, it's a free roaming top-down adventure, full of collectible abilities and purchasable upgrades.

As you move through the varying zones, enemies become tougher, and where you might once have only contended with a slow moving, delayed single-shot spewing hellspawn, new areas introduce enemies more than willing to litter the screen with little red doom pellets. Luckily, as the enemies grow in strength, ferocity, and number, so too do you earn the upgrades necessary to contend with them. The majority are simple; speed, strength, bullet velocity are the most common, along with basic health and defense upgrades. But the greatest benefit to your arsenal comes from dropped weapon types from the enemies you annihilate, like bullets that swirl around you as you move, rapid and wide shot, explosive shot, etc. Once you learn to juggle avoiding bullets and weaving your way in and out to nab pickups, the screen can quickly become an indiscernible mess of marbles of all colors wizzing across the screen in a rainbow of death and chaos. But don't worry, the price of death is a mere reset back to the beginning of whatever area you're in and a small loss of earned funds.

The game is broken up into two main parts, the first being the overworld, where you will spend at least half of your time getting from point A to point B. The overworld contains several themes, depending on your location, as well as varying types and difficulties of enemies. The second major part are the dungeons: contained levels with their own specific themes, often with the express goal of finding an exit and reaching a new part of the overworld. I won't spoil the steps you'll have to take to escape these dungeons, but i will recommend that you take the opportunity to use healing machines whenever you find one.

The many upgrades you can buy come in several forms. You can purchase them from the shops that pop up, both in the overworld and the dungeons, but these will only increase as you collect special coins that unlock more upgrades as you progress. The other sort of upgrade comes from special cards dropped by enemies, requiring you to kill a certain number of them before being able to buy the upgrade the card holds. Lastly, there are special secret cards that can only be found by exploring every inch of the map, and while these can be devilishly difficult to find, the benefits speak for themselves.

In the end, Sweezy Gunner was an excellent surprise, its only real limits are likely caused by the program used to create it. Even if you're not a fan of typical bullet hell games and their no holds barred difficulty, I would recommend you give this one a shot; you will undoubtedly enjoy your time with it, and the difficulty is right on the money with a casual, albeit frenetic experience that anyone can enjoy.

A harmless and fun shoot 'em up with character progression, it's challenging at times but nothing too hardcore. You can die without losing the last half hour of progress which is makes the game more appealing to players who aren't looking for arcade style shoot 'em up titles.

The visuals and soundtrack both complement the game especially with the contemporary score maintaining an upbeat vibe throughout the game. There are a lot of fun upgrades to buy and quests offered by merchants throughout the levels which add some much welcome flavor to the genre.

This is a short review of this game. I touch areas minimally, and this is mostly an opinion.

For a game that seemed so simple on the outside, It's great. It's a beautifully made game about running in and shooting the hell out of anything that moves. The graphics are well done, the mechanics are nice, the sound in this game is catchy and enjoyable, and offers a challenge to overcome the barrages of bullets and enemies. This game is great and all, However there are things that I don't like.

I happen to be a person who likes to 100% games with achievements and all, and having to go back and forth through multiple areas multiple times just gets painful. I forget that I am indeed able to die, and just run through like I'm god, forgetting about my gun and shield. I have also found a few glitches here and there. Once, I was able to go on the water at the beginning, before I had the ability to, accessing an area I shouldn't have been able to otherwise. I also managed to get myself glitched in the wall at the third boss. Not able to die, teleport or go back, I had the reset, doing the entire place again as well as the boss. That ♥♥♥♥♥♥ me off a lot.

Overall, this game is still great, the music and graphics are colourful, and the game mechanics are nice. There are minor annoyances, but they aren't game breaking.

I love this game! It is very simple to get used to, but I'll be damned if it doesn't get challenging. My fiance has looked at me sideways as I throw tantrums at my screen after I've died during a long and nerve racking, nail-biting boss fight. Sometimes even just making your way to the well scatted stores is a mission in itself, but for some reason having to chomp through hordes of enemies that are attacking you from every perceivable angle does not wane in fun value after you have left that area and come back to it again.

The graphics are clean, smooth and lovely to look at. The environments maintain a lot of diversity which makes stumbling upon new areas always exciting. Unlocking upgrades and the way in which you do is very fun and satisfying. I can't be the only one to start salivating when I come accross a giant heart!

The boss fights are AWESOME to say the least. There's so much happening, I must say this game has given me better hand-eye coordination because I slowly get better at dodging bullets (slowly).

You will die a lot, swear a lot (this is the first game that has actually made me scream out loud, lol), you will smile a lot and possible feel psychopathic.

Overall I give this game a 9/10 -- 1 point off for the lack of story, which isn't at all necessary to enjoy the game, but that would complete it. I also understand that controller support is in the works, so keep that in mind if you're considering this game! I think that would make it a hell of a lot better, which seems impossible!

This game came out of nowhere, and was a really pleasant surprise.

I have always been a fan of stuff like Robotron and SmashTV. Sweezy Gunner keeps true to the form of those games, with over 100 screens of enemy-filled, bullet hell goodness. Collect money from fallen enemies and use it to upgrade yourself at the shop. There's also a neat metroidvania element, as you get new powers from defeating bosses that allow you to access new areas of the map.

The Drum & Bass soundtrack is excellent, and the graphics are decent. The bosses look particularly good. You're also getting awesome bang for your buck: the game is relatively long, and at the asking price of $4, it's a steal.

A few more game, graphics (resolution for example), and audio options would be nice, and the character is unable to move diagonally against walls or barriers without stopping, but none of these issues are really game-breaking for me.

Recommend you check it out, good price and lots of gameplay.
