Update #21 - Sinister, Salmon and the Spiked Shield

Hello friends!

We have a pretty big update for you this week. The long awaited Sinister and Salmon are joining the Knight Squad and the Spiked Shield has been stolen by the trolls and put in the hands of the knights.

Changes
  • Added two new unlockable knights: Sinister and Salmon
  • Added one new weapon: The Spiked Shield
  • Changed the controller manager to fix all remapping issues
  • Passwords for online games are now set in the lobby
  • Minor bug fixing
Sinister is unlocked by completing the Extermination (7 kills) achievement. Salmon the fishy knight is locked behind a very well known code for all the old school gamers out there. Does the Konami code ring a bell?

Let us know if you have any issues with this update and thank you for playing Knight Squad!

Dont wait for a new bomberman anymore ...knight squad is here and i takes the grail right away. Of course this game is nearly 100 % made for multiplayer. Classic same-screen-action like its 1993 on SNES (even the music could be from 93...not quality, but style).

What i dont understand - why nobody is playing this online? I dont think the online part is damaged, its just the bad sales....
Whats missing? Level editor should be easy. Bomberman skins. And - online players. Where art thou?

One of the best Party Games on Steam. Grab some Controllers and see how friendships will break up. Easy to learn but it can be very tactical thanks to all the game modes.

Hours of fun... if you have friends!

So I will start by saying this I bought this game while ago when It was on sale, and I have to say this game has far exceeded my expectation, and as a testimate I think I have a little over 30 hours logged in the game. There are a few bugs admittedly, but none that hinder the gameplay in anyway as far as I could tell. The game has a variety of gamemodes meaning you can keep the fun going for hours, and especially with friends no game is ever the same.

The single player challenged are difficult but not impossible. And I feel as though they have provided a difficult yet enjoyable challenge, and even on easy the higher level challenges require patience, and well timed strike before the enemy returns fire. I especially had trouble with the attack pattersn of the cell/plantdragon hybird challenge. There is hours upon hours of content here even with no friends, as the bots in certain games can easily compete and overwhelm the players.

I have a list of things I feel as though would benifit the games popularity, and while I know that suggestions are always easier said than done here is my list of suggestions.

-A mace like weapon that swings around hitting enemies in a circular pattern.
-An upgrade for the recently added spike sheild that once two have been obtained you can shoot spikes from it(when standing still)
-A map editor allowing users to create their own custom levels.
- More map diversity(I know the maps have to be symetrical 8 ways but I think obstacle diversity could be interesting.
-A spear weapon that you have to throw, and go pick back up, thus requiring timed strikes.
- A modification to the bombs (An upgrade or something I dont know)
-A improvement to A.I strategy (I'll take a little bit more later)
-A customization option to allow players to change the amount of hits needed to kill a knight before they die and respawn.
-A option to change weapons available to the game (assuming it doesn't ruin gameplay or balance)
-A new powerup similar to the horse except a dragon where players ride it, and can shoot fireballs, the dragon could be slower, but require more hits to kill, and then the player on top of that.
-Lances for horses that once a knight is riding a direction with a lance( which is longer than a sword) they will have a hard time turning quickly. Lances would not be natural and would have to be picked up.
-A hot potatoe gamemode with bombs or explosives?
-A cannon- enough said.

Ok thats enough for a wishlist (sorry devs I know its frustrating getting ideas that are harder to script than to imagine.

The A.I in this game is both amazing and terrible well sort of is (maybe I want to much) On expert the bots are very unforgiving they make very fast attacks and round about swings that can normally not be avoided. Especially on the dark knight challenge when all it takes is one bad shot and you'e cook. So basically when the game focused on just killing they always have an advantage. However during the other games such as Capture the flag, or last man standing, they can't really compete. That brings me to my next thought of making the A.I target players that are winning in terms of point or ojective, and target players that have the best weapons, or some balance of the two. The human players have an advantage of knowing what the scores are and how to act accordingly in gameplay. The A.I does not meaning it continues to keep up its old tricks. If the computer had knowledge of score and how dangerous a player is it would make it hard to kill them, or possibly lead to the combined strategies of the A.I. Because lets be honest in last man standing you can just stand around waiting for the A.I to kill itself and you win by killing on other bot. Make it so it continues chasing the player before giving up so easily. Or make the A.I just better with weapons other than the basic sword because when it comes to weapon like the bow, or the bommarange they aren't very tactical.

These are my thoughts on the game as it currently is I will continue to add to this if new ideas come to my head. Once again I understand talking, and programming are two very different things, but reading this is appricated thank you.

I played this game while at PAX South and love it. Bought it while i was there for half price. Currently does not support online play but it does support local co-op play and is a blast and makes a great party game. Even at its current state i recommend the game. They are still updating so be on the look out for the online play soon.

Oh man, this game. I first tried this at PAX Prime 2015, and ended up revisiting the booth the whole weekend to keep playing.

The ideal way to play this really is with 7 friends locally, although the computers aren't awful to play against. It's already incredibly polished for local play, and the developers have said they're working on making the online functional, although I personally haven't tried it yet.

There's a ridiculous amount of content for the price, and once you play it with friends once you won't regret it. It creates a lot of the same moments I remember playing 4-player bomberman on the snes. Tense, interesting, and fast-paced multiplayer couch combat. I probably should have started with that, but oh well.

Seriously, get this game.

Knight Squad was probably designed with the idea, "What if Gauntlet had online multiplayer?" While the game modes consist of your standard fare deathmatch, capture the flag, king of the hill, etc the real heart of the game is in its gameplay and mechanics. Players begin with a short sword but, through Bomberman styled pickups, upgrade to long swords, bow and arrows, kamakazi bombs, and crossbows. One hit kills but respawns are quick creating a fast paced feel to the game that suits it well. The only fault with the current build is that all matches will be played with AI bots. Online multiplayer and a campaign are on the way though so this issue will eventually be rectified.

On the other hand the best part about this game, thus far, is the inclusion of local mulitplayer. With the industry standard of making games without local multiplayer, this is a breath of fresh air. Playing this with a few friends reminded me of all of the great times I had playing 2v2 Smash Bros. Might I say that this is no small feat to accomplish. I still hold Smash Bros to be the best party game for local multiplayer. In fact, both games feature "fun chaos" when first learning the systems and both have a great deal of depth/strategy despite both having appeal to non core games.

I am eager to see what Chainsawsome Games does with the future of this title. Whatever they do with it, though, it is off to a great start.

Seriously this game is amazing! I'm really impressed with the content they keep churning out through the Early Access process.

I was satisfied with the game before they added Juggernaut play style and Ripper power up but holy smokes those two things make the game awesome!

Four player action is my favorite. I can't wait to give it a shot with eight of my buddies!

NOTE: Knight Squad is in Early Access and that means this will be a much more condensed review than a final release review. As soon as the game launches I will have a final release review which would be a much more descriptive review. Thanks!

Knight Squad is a 1 to 8 player indie game created and published by Chainsawesome Games. It is available on Steam's Early Access program for the low price of $9.99. The game puts you in the point of view of bird's eye view and allows you to control one out of eight knights. You will control your knight to defeat all other opponents that stand in your way. As the player, you may choose one of the six game modes, each mode having two maps (with the exclusion of Soccer's one map). On top of picking a game mode and a unique map, made exclusively to a certain game mode, you can choose whether you would like bots to play with you, if you are alone. You may set the bots to have a certain difficulty out of the four choices (Easy, Medium, Hard, and Extreme). With whatever mode you choose, whether it's easy or even extreme, you will be challenged as the AI is very well programmed to fight you. How does it hold up?

Knight Squad surprised me. I haven't had this fun playing with my brother and six other bots in years. The AI challenged us to even use teamwork when we were on the same side. With all the powerups and weapons that are thrown at you from enemies, you're gonna need to move quickly to avoid arrows, lasers, and even KAMIKAZES! The list goes on for a while, including ninjas - which fight by your side as you fight enemies - and even being able to drill your way through the map's blocks. You will have a lot of fun with this game, especially as more maps and gamemodes are being added. And, like every review has said so far, I can't wait to kick some butt on online multiplayer!

8.5/10 - Knight Squad is already rivaling some of the best multiplayer games that have come up within the past 5 years, and it's only going to keep getting better! Well done Chainsawesome Games!

A genuinely fun local multiplayer game. While it isn't exactly complex, its easy to pick up and a lot of fun. At the end of the day, sometimes you need a game that everyone on the couch can just grab a controller and enjoy. Knight Squad accomplishes that.

It was either re-live the nostalgia of Bomberman and Gauntlet when I was like 5 years old, or play a game about robots and porn. I sold one of them for a good price and I don't regret it.

NOTE: Controller is a MUST, keyboard is very hard to use for movement.
