About This Game

Cult of the Wind is a game about people who pretend to be airplanes.

"In an unknown time and place, a cult that worships the wreckage of ancient airplanes gathers to mimic the dogfights of old. With the peak of humanity far behind, their world is a mausoleum to a lush and verdant Art Deco past."

In Cult of the Wind, players compete and cooperate in ritualistic multi-player human dogfights, complete with imaginary weapons, pretend explosions, and airplane noises made with their mouths. Shower your friends in a hail of imaginary bullets and proclaim, "I got you! You have to lie down," to which they respond, "Nuh-uh, I have a shield." You argue about whether or not airplanes can have shields, meanwhile some other guy does a cannonball onto your head while whistling. It's great.

With an intuitive point-and-click level editor you'll be able to craft new levels or modify existing ones, then immediately share them with anyone on a server, even if you aren't the host. You can also craft a personalized appearance for your character with numerous articles of clothing and more.

  • Simple, robust level editor
  • Instantly share your creations with others
  • Character customization
  • Dozens of imaginary weapons and abilities
  • Infinitely expandable content
  • Blindingly high-speed mock combat
  • Weird noises

Not sure what this game tried to accomplish, whatever it was, it failed. The potential is there, though.

It's such a shame.

This needs more work. At the very least some AI bots to give everyone who’s bought a taste of what it could be like. Hell, relaunch the thing and make it free-to-play with micro-transactions! Anything to draw some players into this unique creation. Without any community behind it I fear this will fall into the darker edges of Steam’s mighty gaming warehouse and never be seen again. It gets marks for its sheer unique design and atmosphere but there’s no reason to own this unless a concerted effort to draw in players or develop the game further is made.

Cult of Wind presents a comical looking and original gameplay in an over the shoulder shooter.

Heck, it looks great since it has Steamworks for map creation so you can whip up your own temple to the sky god. Sadly, the delivery is an absolute nose dive. Whereas most multiplayer games would have several dedicated servers running, Cult of Wind only has one which is empty. Even with it being on sale at $2, I was hoping for some fun only to experience absolute defeat when I saw there is nobody else playing, not even privately hosted servers. It doesn’t help that the developer has done nothing since the game left early access back in 2014.

The combination of an inactive player base and a missing in action developer leads me to conclude that this game dead, just like the airplanes that once flew.

Nobody plays this game. Can only be played online with other players but the one server is literally empty. Save the money,

This game is great. No, seriously, it is. The only complaints are how many people don't play this. But when I was playing it, I decided to start making plane noises to go with the game.
That made me realize something. This game, allows you to be a kid again, act like you're flying around shooting people out of the sky. That is the reason why I reccomend this game. It allows you to act like a kid again.

Game is really good, however almost no one is playing it. I give thumbs up only to support developers but please add some more content, more maps and please be active with community. The game has a lot of potential but if you developers don't promote your game than it will be completely dead, i mean it's already dead so try to be more active, i know that everything cost a lot of money but this game deserves to be among the best indie titles.

No one played this in Early Access because it wasn't finished.
No one plays it now it's out of Early Access because it isn't finished.
I once played a match with three other people, that was a good day.
The game could be fun if more people played it, as of now it is literally a graveyard.

On the other hand I'm wearing a robe and box car plane with a propeller hat.

I like the idea, I found it hilarious when I saw the trailers. The graphics look unique and nice, it has a great sound design and runs smoothly on a potato.

Why the thumbs down then?

It's not a game, it's just a "bag of potential" sold for money. The game is practically dead (3 people being online at a time tops) and it's multiplayer only. I wouldn't buy it, unless you like running around alone in a mid-sized multiplayer map doing nothing.

I'm not pretending I'm an airplane.
I AM AN AIRPLANE.

It's a great game, but it's sad there are no players online whatsoever. Maybe if there was a bot mode there would be more of a community.

This game is lonely, oh so lonely. However with the hopes that other people will play, I reccomend it.

1) Fun concept
2) easy and smooth mechanics
3) well designed levels

If you are interested in trying it out, go post on their forum page. I check once or twice a week hoping someone will answer my gameday post.

Cult of the Wind spent two months in Early Access - didn't change much during that time. Nor did it after release back in June 2014. Thanks to developer's incompetence at both building the game (clearly unfinished and lacking polish, I'd even say features necessary for such title) and any interest around it, it was dead on arrival as multiplayer-only game. Alex Allen (North of Earth) didn't bother trying to resurrect it.

Also, it seems fishy when someone friends with the dev who has only games of that particular developer writes positive review right after game is released on Early Access:
