About This Game

Cult of the Wind is a game about people who pretend to be airplanes.

"In an unknown time and place, a cult that worships the wreckage of ancient airplanes gathers to mimic the dogfights of old. With the peak of humanity far behind, their world is a mausoleum to a lush and verdant Art Deco past."

In Cult of the Wind, players compete and cooperate in ritualistic multi-player human dogfights, complete with imaginary weapons, pretend explosions, and airplane noises made with their mouths. Shower your friends in a hail of imaginary bullets and proclaim, "I got you! You have to lie down," to which they respond, "Nuh-uh, I have a shield." You argue about whether or not airplanes can have shields, meanwhile some other guy does a cannonball onto your head while whistling. It's great.

With an intuitive point-and-click level editor you'll be able to craft new levels or modify existing ones, then immediately share them with anyone on a server, even if you aren't the host. You can also craft a personalized appearance for your character with numerous articles of clothing and more.

  • Simple, robust level editor
  • Instantly share your creations with others
  • Character customization
  • Dozens of imaginary weapons and abilities
  • Infinitely expandable content
  • Blindingly high-speed mock combat
  • Weird noises

This game is great. No, seriously, it is. The only complaints are how many people don't play this. But when I was playing it, I decided to start making plane noises to go with the game.
That made me realize something. This game, allows you to be a kid again, act like you're flying around shooting people out of the sky. That is the reason why I reccomend this game. It allows you to act like a kid again.

Is it a good game? ABSOLUTELY!!! Unfotunately the servers aren't populated much probably due to very little fanfare when the full version released (I bought it during EA) but the community hub is great and workshop support is a wonderful bonus so for $10 it's a wonderful purchase.

If you're wary about it then check out reviews and the hub first or consider buying it during a sale. Personally I like buying 4-packs to give away to friends mostly because it's a great LAN game but also because...well, why not?

In Cult of the Wind you take control of a slightly customizable character and pretend to be an airplane with imaginary weapons while playing capture the flag or deathmatch against other people.
Sadly this interesting concept isn't enough to save a game with generic gameplay, dull maps and a non-existent player base.

PROS:

-had an interesting concept

-the graphics aren't too bad for the most part

-what little music is there is very nice

-decent amount of different weapons and tools as level pickups

-comes with a map editor to make new levels

CONS:

-multiplayer is dead

-no tutorial ,you're offered an external guide but even that one doesn't explain certain things (like victory conditions)

-somewhat laggy even on low ping servers

-bland map design, and there's just four of them

-quite a bit of clipping with objects and walls

-very few animations, what's there is wooden

-most weapons feel very weak

-the fuel mechanics and an ammo count for primary weapons are just annoying

-lack of any kind of weapon effects makes aiming difficult

-poor UI

-very lacking customization options (you only have 2 or 3 options for head/ dress/ accessory)

-horrible team balancer

Cult of the Wind had an unique concept for sure, but once I started playing it everything felt quite generic: you're running around maps trying to capture the flag while killing other players, it's something you've seen and done countless times and the imaginary airplane mechanics adds little to nothing. For starters you have a fuel gauge and an ammo count for your primary guns, this means you'll have to bounce around levels hoping to find the appropriate pickup to stay effective rather than playing the objective. The imaginary weapons feel weak overall and since there's no tracer/ projectile effect aiming them can be quite difficult.

The map design is quite bland and they're very small, once I got the flag taking it to the capture zone generally took me about 10 seconds: couple this with the weak weapons and you'll see how stopping opposing players can be difficult. This is made worse by a slight lag that's present even on low ping servers and makes player movements jerky. Even if you're winning the horrible team balancer will often just stack teams (most of my games were 2vs4 or 3vs1) or keep making you jump between the two teams (can happen several times in the same match).

Cult of the Wind is simply generic and lacking in all aspects and I'm honestly surprised at the amount of positive reviews it has: I just can't recommend it in all honesty and, even if you disagree with me and feel it's a fun game, buying a multiplayer game with a peak player count of about 5 a week after 300k keys were given for free would be simply a waste.

Finally I can pretend to be a military plane without being arrested by cops in the park, when it's night and I'm drunk pretending to shot the cops with machine guns and missiles... :S

Note: I got this game for free, but I would be more than happy to pay for it.

Such a beautiful game, the art in this game is pretty decent and colourful, pretty attractive I must say. The gameplay is a little it slowish and made for casual players, but it's nice to see a slow-paced game every once in a while, especially when there are hardcore games like Unreal Tournament, Left 4 Dead series or CS:GO series or the CoD series around.
The con I see in this game after playing it for like 20 mins is that the game has literally no player around. It would be nice to see the servers getting full and burst up.
