An Absolutely outstanding game.
I walked into this game being a little skeptical of the promise and ambition the the trailer highlighted, but I was so, so plesently surprised.
unlike most indie games still in alpha this game has an amazing level of polish to it. After several hours of playing I have not once experienced a single crash or significant bug. The fighting is also incredibly balanced and the player and monsters never feel ridiculously powerful or impossible to kill. you never die from a cheap shot and every bit of damage you take feels like you could have avoided it. it has a very Dark-Souls-Esk feel to the combat, its fast, fluid, responsive and satisfying and you never feel punished for dying.
Additionally, if you have no buddies to play with the, AI is superb, acting much like a human does in how it moves, fights and decides to buy items (pausing for a brief moment to think). having the choice to alter the amount of players (from 2 to 4) is great and acts as a subtle way of modifing the difficulty in addition to the AI also has a difficulty modifyer.
controllers also have complete compatability, very literally plug and play. either it be a 360 or ps3. (I cannot confirm for other controllers, but it seems to be the case)
but when you have 4 controllers, the computer hooked up to the big screen and a few beers around, this game absolutely shines. even in alpha this game is honestly brilliant.
These are the only bugs that I have noticed thus far (and they are pretty minor ones at that).
1. as a ghost you can fly around the map collecting ectoplasm. when you collect enough you can spawn upwards of 3 slimes to enter the field at any time. they are weak, but can certainly be an effective distraction, causing surprising damage if not delt with.
There appears to be a spawning bug, you can place them anywhere on the field however placing them too close to a wall or corner will result in them getting stuck and unable to move. This is no problem as they are easily cleaned up and the game can continoue, but this will probably be quite easily fixed in later versions.
2. The AI. while acting pretty reasonable most of the time and are certainly a worthy challenge (I am yet to win a watch against simply 2 AI on normal, I cant imagine what 3 on hard would be like).
they do, ever so rarely get a little confused if there is alot of gunk on the floor. As they try to avoid it they end up running over it multiple times and take significant amount of damage figuring out how to behave (but they do snap out of it eventually) . yet, so far, this has only happened maybe 2-3 times in the many matches I have played and only seem to last for that room. its a rare occurance and will probably be patched at a later date.
but apart from that.....nothing of mention, the game is very well polished. very easily worth the asking price.
