Reviews

“MoaCube focuses on the women of the tale and what made them who they are. The game is about nuance, is about understanding the motivations of another human being.”
Kotaku

“Asides from being delightfully well-written, highly replayable and filled with complex, convoluted characters, Cinders is also beautiful.”
IndieGames

“A visual novel that presents the deepest, most complex, most original, and ultimately most compelling re-imagination of the Cinderella universe.”

About This Game

Cinders is a mature take on a classic fairytale with a heavy emphasis on player choices and role playing.

Cinders is a witty young woman living with an overbearing stepmother and her two daughters, as if she was reenacting a certain well-known fairytale. But unlike its protagonist, Cinders is not afraid of taking fate into her own hands. Even if it means breaking the rules…

The game takes a look at four women and what made them who they are. It’s a story about balancing freedom and dreams with circumstance and harsh reality. About growing up and finding out the true meaning of independence. Distancing itself from the judgmental simplicity of the original, Cinders tries to explore the more complex nature of oppression, responsibility and innocence.

With 120 decision points, over 300 options to choose from, and multiple endings, Cinders gives you total control over the main character’s personality and how her story unfolds.

What an amazing game. Not sure I'm entirely qualified to write a review since this is the only visual novel I've played - but I love the game so much, I have to gush about it. Let's see:

Pros:
- Incredible soundtrack. It's too bad they don't have that as DLC because if they did, I'd buy it in a second.
- Lovely graphics. The artwork is gorgeous in a perfect fairytale way.
- Very interesting story. A good thing too if you're going to play over and over for multiple endings.
- Rich characters. Their dialog was well written and I cared alot about what happened to them.
- Choices really make a difference. The way the story flows is very much up to you. Choose wisely.

Cons:
- Some of the dialog between characters can get a bit preachy.
- As with most "choose your own adventures", they don't always give you the choices you'd like.

All in all, if you have any interest in the Cinderella story or a well written book-like game with pleasing artwork and music, I highly recommend this. And with all the many ending variations, there's lots of replay value. I've 100%ed the achievements but there are still 2 endings I really want to see so I'm not done playing yet. What a great game!

If you would like to try a visual novel, but anime is not your cup of tea, give this title a chance. This game is (very losely) based on the story of Cinderella, but it's up to the player to decide what Cinder's "happy ending" will be. Shall she really just marry the prince? Maybe she should kill her stepmother and take hold of her estate instead? Run away and start a new life elsewhere? Marry the prince but, screw him, rule alone? (Who needs men, anyway?) Of course, if she is not careful, her actions might just blow up in her face.

My opening statement:
Cinders is pretty good visual novel.
I think this is all you need to know at this point.

I like when familiar stories are reimagined, authors and creators give them they own flair and taste, and it worked in Cinders. Story feels fresh, you can like (love would be strong term) and hate characters, and for 3 hours it grabs you and you want to see how the story ends. Happily ever after or miserable till death.

Art is simply fantastic, i am big fan of it.
Music could have been better.
There is nothing specific for what you can be harsh on this game and if you want me to cherry picking some stuff; I was surprised when i saw 16,99€ as a price for Cinders. Holy cow! If i didn't get this game in bundle, i would never ever buy game like this, for price this high.

Awesome artwork, good storytelling were reasons to play till the end; but one end only.

6.5/10

P.S. Gloria is hot. I am weird. I know. So what!

Cinders is a visual novel solid in every way and that's rare.

First of all, it's gorgeous. I'm not teaching anything if you already glanced at the screenshots but it needs to be said because it's actually pretty important. Many visual novels have a cheap look, and I personally feel that it has a really negative impact on my enjoyment of the story. In Cinders you want to move forwards just to see the next picture.

But it's not just window dressing either. The writing is also great, and I do mean it. All the characters and situations are believable, the premise was enough to hook me in and the world is an interesting place to discover. It's nice for a change to play something that you never did before when many visual novels are pretty iterative.

Finally, the choices. Nothing to write home about, but they are there and they are significant. I actually prefer something that really allows me to put my mark on the story rather than thousands of endings for the sake of it. It's good and having the opportunity to twist such an iconic story is a great pleasure.

To conclude, this game is amazing. Maybe even one of those niche games good enough to be enjoyed by someone who usually don't play them.
A little caveat nonetheless: despite all my praises, I think the price is too steep. Wait for a sale.

Cinders are basically just Cinderella story that you know it well.
However, in this game, it tell another different story and it all depend on you to turn Cind to be.
Mean Cind that want her house back from Stepmother, Or just a normal girl who just show up at the ballroom and Prince just like her opinion and want her to be the Queen.

It never be like an old Cinderella that we know, Anastasia and Drizella are not be like the old one, here they more friendly and reasonable, which I really love it.

There nothing more than just a book story that need you to read, but the good one is that you can choose what in the end that you would like it to be.

Recommend, if you love Cinderella story :)
