Besides, you can test your endurance in "Endless mode" within a dedicated dungeon scenario, fighting against an increasing cornucopia of enemies!

Storyline

The orcs and elves of the Loidar wood have been in war since time immemorial. But their
struggles have been forced to a stop because of a new and powerful enemy: Man, a wicked race that wants to take possession of their sacred woodlands in order to exploit all their natural resources. In view of this threat, elves and orcs are forced to agree to a truce and to try stopping the invading forces.

They draw up a plan to stop humans and their deforestation: to find the stationed troops
near wood's region and to beat down their captain. But the region is protected with a magic shield that can't be destroyed by brute force. The only way to get in is to use the Milius stone, a magic stone placed in a cave near the outskirt of the forest, that will transport whoever that touches it to another cave placed near the human region.

This isn't the only problem; orcs and elves agreed to a truce, but they don't rely on the others' abilities for completing the mission successfully. So they decide to send, on their own, a warrior of each race. Elves send Tinargey (Eternal Fire Star) Arson, a graceful and skillful elf woman, well versed in the ancient secret art of Fire Mastery. Orcs sent Vrok Plunder, a rough berserker armed with a big battle axe, as lethal as his arms, legs, jaws and big hard head.

Both warriors get into the cave from two different places, and quickly progress to the magic stone, reaching it at the same time. The stone teleports them to the destination cave, but the result is not as expected: the magic travel wasn't prepared for two beings at the same time, and now the man and the fly the orc and the elf woman are fused.

So, now there is a single body inhabited by two beings, that learns summoning the body of one another as they need.

Once they get used to their new body, they get into the enemy lands, going through a near
deforested wood followed by a village, finding tougher new enemies. After that, they'll go toward the mountains to destroy the sorcerer that shielded their people out of the human territories. Finally, orcs and elves will help our heroes to occupy the castle and finish off the human captain in the highest tower of the palace.

At the end, the wood is safe again, and orcs and elves can continue happily with their bloody wars, but Arson & Plunder™ are still trapped in the same body, and there's no magic powerful enough in the forest able to undo the spell. So, our heroes must leave to a new mission towards the unnamed lands, where it's said that most powerful wizards lives in.

Most of the reviews claim this game is clunky as well as looking and feeling like a mobile port and honestly, they aren't wrong. The combat feels slow, the character feels unresponsive and unruly. Whos bright idea was it to have the jump and attack be the same button? ♥♥♥♥♥

I do admire the game for one thing though, it knows how bad it is as at the end of every mini level the default selection is to exit, that's brilliant.

Controls (movement, attacks, everything) are so bad that it's frustrating, unplayable. You have been warned.

It plays and feels more like a mobile game. The character animations are stiff and controls are a little bit clunky. But I could live with all that if there weren't for the game breaking bugs. Sometimes the game would simply get stuck on loading screen, or it would stop scrolling to the right even though all the enemies are dead and new ones are not coming. If you want a good action beat 'em up, play Castle Crashers instead.

Downgraded version of Golden Axe- exact same playstyle- brawl while you walk. Switch characters. Light on strategy, heavy on action, bland in narrative, although I can see where the developers were trying to be funny. 4/10 Good for the fans of the walk and brawl genre, though it looks like a flash version of a game.

+ Such a cute game!
+ I'm in love with the soundtracks!
+ Nice arcade graphics!
+ 3 Special Skills for orc and elf
+ Excellent Lore, loved it so far

- No leveling
- No talents or skills or points
- No upgrade system
- No point in playing more than once

Verdict:
5.5/10 -> Would buy if developers upgrade the game and add an upgrade system that can actually keep the player interested. However, nice and simple story.

Sometimes I wonder if the beatemup developers of today were actually around for the 90s. I keep thinking that they spent the decade hibernating, possibly in some cryogenic sleep-tank. I mean, how could they understand so little? Did they even play 90s beatemups? How is it possible to screw up so badly and not care at all? When I play games like Arson and Plunder: Unleashed, games that are so shockingly bad, that tears of blood stream down my broken and hollow soul, I just want to pluck out my beard and tear my monitor in half.

Through a twist of fate and a rip in the fabric of unreality, an Elf and an Orc become one. As Arson, you must burn 1000s of pitiful humans alive. As Plunder, you have to mercilessly crush the skulls of 1000s more. What should be the setup for a strategic as well as thrilling beatemup, is just another disappointing tale of boredom. All you can do is watch in horror as the very concept of fun is set alight and brutally torn asunder until nothing remains.

There are 5 levels with 5-6 zones each. The zones are your standard "move forward, kill all of the enemies, repeat" setup. It's pretty common for the beatemup genre, but the problems don't actually start until you play the game. The enemies tend to have a dash attack. This attack is a jumping shoulder-check. There's really not much you can do to counter this move, and you're likely not going to try because it does so little damage. Archers attack with arrows from practically anywhere. This is more damage you'll probably shrug off, because dodging arrows is too much work. It's worth pointing out that dodging in this game, just plain stinks. You're a rather large target, and even by dashing around, you're still liable to get clipped and surrounded.

Mainly you'll be relying on Arson to carry you through this game. She has a special move which causes fire to kill 5-6 enemies at a time. Special moves cost meter, but you replenish meter by killing enemies. As you can tell, this makes for a move that can be spammed at any and all opportunities. Is it cheating? Nope, not in the slightest. This game expects you to use and abuse that move, because the later zones pile on the enemies to an absurd degree. It's at this point where ignoring all of the minor damage bites you in the rear. Zones 5-2 and 5-4 are flat-out terrible, and that's because they're completely unbalanced. 5-2 throws more enemies at you than 90% of the rest of the game, and 5-4 expects you to deal with 5 waves of foes without any food items. There are a couple tantalizing watermelons placed in 5-4, but they're inexplicably background objects, because I haven't the faintest idea.

Oh yeah, I forgot to talk more about Plunder. I don't think anyone cares about him, including the people who developed the game. Well, he's an ugly green orc after all, not a sexy elf with all of the cleavage. Seriously though, the Orc suffers from poor special moves, and his melee attack is actually worse than Arson's. Yep, apparently a lot of muscles and a huge axe doesn't make you very tough. On the bright side, Plunder is better for dealing with the bosses. He can do a quick combo to knock the enemy down, take a few steps above or below them, then do another combo when they try to follow. This is an easy exploit to set up, but it's still the extent of the Orc's usefulness. If his dash-attack and special moves did more damage, switching between characters would actually make sense. Instead it's all about Arson spamming her "fire rain" over and over again.

Now if you haven't subjected your PC to a "fire rain" after several dozen attempts at 5-2 & 5-4, there is a Survival Mode. Before you ask, yes, Arson will be using that move even more. There's also a co-op mode, in case you feel like making enemies of the people closest to you. Oh and most importantly, there are attempts at humor in-between some zones. Most of the jokes are made at the expense of the game, and beatemups in general. Sadly, the sense of humor displayed in this game is almost as bad as mine. You're more likely to laugh at the writer's tenuous grasp of the English language, until you consider the possibility that the engrish was done on purpose. Let's face it, there's no way this game will allow any entertainment to be gleaned from it.

Look, if you want a 90s beatemup, just play a 90s beatemup. It's obvious that the people who made Arson and Plunder: Unleashed don't understand the genre, and the more time you spend with this game, the more you'll hate yourself. Now if you'll excuse me, I have the sudden urge to buy some DLC, play Call of Duty, and enjoy a few QTEs.

Presentable side-scrolling beat 'em up, with dual character synergy attempts. Fighters go through bite-sized challenges, each with draining special attacks and a limited health pool. Some clunky attack choices, but overall decent variety, if better in co-op than alone.

Awful game, at first it tempts you with its co-op, without saying clearly that it's only local, battle system at its worst, which is basically a button masher with zero strategy and entertainment. Levels are boring, enemies are boring, bosses are boring, everything is boring. If you want a hack n slash platformer, go for castle crushers or rampage knights instead

Excuse my bad english (greetings from germany) but I decide to not review in my language.

So, I bought that game, cause the feedback seemed very good, but... it really isn't my kind of game.

Pro:
- Nice looking graphics and backgrounds
- phenomenal soundtrack

Con:
- there isn't really any depht to it... you just mash or using screen-clearing magic... it's like a "Dynasty Warriors 2D Edition" without leveling or other interesting aspects
- classic Beat Em Up? You just walk forward and kill enemys, and at the next level, you walk even further with more of the same enemys, so also no need to jumping
You can just leave the background bland, the level-design is allways the same
- Survival-Mode is more of the same, just without level-progression.

Yeah, I didn't played much of this game, but there was nothing to let me play further.
It's like, I've seen everything in the first five minutes, cause after that, there was nothing special or new.
And there are much better alternatives, so there isn't really a reason for me, to play it an hour.

Sorry, but if you wanna buy the game, watch some YouTube-Video and decide then.
And fantastic music doesn't make an fantastic game... it helps alot, but here, it's just the music and some pretty graphics.

Edit: If you wanna thumb down that review, than say why. :P
So yeah, that is the first game I have, where I think, some friends of the developers praise the game und downvote the downvotes (after the review isn't an hour on steam).

EditEdit: Or paid reviews from some german community, where the review instantly get 30 thumbs up (after maybe 1-2 hours on Steam).

Not terrible. Not worth $7, maybe $1
TBH Thought it looked like castle crashers, was kind of let down. It kind of looked like it was slapped together in a couple hours. Cute kids game, but for season veterns you might want to steer clear.

Im looking negative reviews and 99% of these people didn't play even 30 minutes, and yet they find themselves compatible of writing review.
Such a shame... ok no trolling here ^^

Arson & Plunder is a classic sides scroller 2D beat'em, not that I would called it classic since of beatufil textures and models.
Sound has cool rockish music that wont bother anytime soon.
Gameplay is fun in SP, its easy to start but, each next stage is harder than one before, you will always encounter new enemies and every time more and more of them. Story is also interesting but I wont speak of it (because of potentional spoilers)

Pro's
+ Multiplayer
+ Local Co-Op
+ Sountrack
+ Models and Textures
+ Achievements, cards and S.Cloud
+ Replayable

Con's
- Price

Overall;
With everything this game has to offer I can safely recommend this game to everyone, however I suggest buying it on discount. If it hits 50% off I would say it should be instant-buy

Game: Arson & Plunder: Unleashed
Genre: Beat'em Up
Developer: Chainsaw Syndicate
Publisher: Headup Games
Copy supplied by publisher

Arson & Plunder: Unleashed is a 2D Beat'em Up developed by Chainsaw Syndicate and published by Headup Games.

STORY
During a war between elves and orcs, humans start deforesting their land. So, orcs and elves make a truce and send their two best warriors to save the forest. However, these warriors get stuck together in a way vary similar to Trine, and they are forced to cooperate to stop the humans from accomplishing their plans.
Okay, I'm gonna be honest with you: the story is very simple, but also quite funny. There is a lot of humor that has more hits than misses, and I had a good time watching the cutscenes and the beginning and end of each level.

GRAPHICS
The 2D artstyle is very colorful and detailed, as well as not being a confusing mess. However, the background tends to get repetitive in each level.

GAMEPLAY
The game is a sidescrolling beat'em up that features normal and special attacks as well as switching your character on the fly: the elf is more suited to long-range combat, while the orc is better for melee fights. I am not a big fan of this genre, but I had quite a blast playing this game: thanks to the simple controls and the fluid combat, I have beaten the entire thing in one section with a friend beside me. And that's the best way to enjoy this: with a human friend next to you.

CHALLENGE
The game is, sadly, pretty easy: most of the times you'll be able to fend off enemies by spamming the attack button, and if the enemies get too close, one of the special attacks will defeat them quite easily.

SOUND
I despise repetitive soundtracks, and they usually ruin a game for me. But here, I was pleasantly surprised: the rock music featured in the game enhances the frenetic action, making every situation better than I could've ever imagined when I first started the game. Props to the music composer.

REPLAYABILITY
Other than getting all the achievements, playing Endless mode and beating the game with a friend, there isn't that big a lasting appeal.

Overall, this is a damn good beat'em up with a kickass score, fun story and enjoyable gameplay that is only improved by the presence of cooperative gameplay. I recommend this to fans of the genre and newcomers alike.

Boring beat em up with an ok story and artstyle shadowed by the tedious controls and gameplay
It doesn't really have any depth compared to other games of the same genre, it's not worth your money let alone your time
