About This Game

Second Chance Heroes is a cooperative arcade action game that takes place in a world overrun by apocalyptic disasters! Made weak by over-exposure to kitten videos, reality TV and ironic photos of bacon, the citizens of the modern world are entirely unprepared when the end of the world arrives! Unable to save ourselves from evil robots, nuclear missiles, sentient fast food, alien invasions and hordes of the undead, our only hope lies in the past. Put together a dream team of cloned heroes drawn from throughout human history and use them to push back the apocalyptic tide! Or don't and just let the zombie chickens eat your face.

Key Features:

  • Intense Action Arcade Game Play: Fast-paced combat. A wide variety of characters and abilities to unlock and upgrade. Vast and strange worlds to explore. Treasure to gather. And dancing... COMBAT DANCING.

  • Collect Tons of Playable Characters: With a dozen Heroes to unleash, you'll wish you'd paid closer attention in history class! Discover and unlock new characters as you fight your way through the game. Upgrade and enhance your favorites to create a finely-tuned fighting force!

  • Four Player Co-Op: Don't be a clone alone! Fight alongside other players in team-ups of HISTORIC PROPORTION! Join up to three other players in cross-platform (Mac and PC) cooperative action.

  • Weird World of Hilarious Mayhem: Explore the horrors of the Hungerton Mall, the mysteries of a once magestic underground kingdom of hobos, and the secrets of Site Z.
Your goal in Second Chance Heroes is to collect and train a small army of historical clones. Each one you add gives you new options as you approach a new level or battle. And remember, with character tag teaming you can always have two clones on hand in any given situation.

Playable Characters:

  • Abraham Lincoln: America's greatest President. Prior to taking office, he was best-known for his skills as an orator and a series of amazing pulled pork barbecue recipes.

  • Queen Elizabeth I of England: Daughter of King Henry VIII and Queen regnant of England from 1558 to 1603. Also invented beer pong.

  • Napoleon Bonaparte: Famed military commander and Emperor of France. Little known fact: He was ACTUALLY over seven feet tall.

  • Joan of Arc: 15th Century French visionary and military leader. Also invented break-dancing.

  • Nikola Tesla: Brilliant engineer and inventor, best known for developing Alternating Current electricity. His only hobbies were collecting mustache wax and yodeling.

  • Julius Caesar: Supreme general and ruler of Rome. Was the first person to guarantee pizza delivery in 30 minutes or less.

  • Blackbeard: Notorious sea captain and scourge of the Caribbean. Resorted to piracy only after his dreams of opening a boutique cupcake bakery fell through.

  • Marie Curie: Renowned physicist, chemist and pioneer in the study of radioactivity who discovered Radium. Also led an all-girl crime-fighting team known as "The Terrible Ladyfists."

  • Montezuma: Conquering warrior and ruler of the Aztec Empire. Also invented the banjo.

  • Cleopatra: The last pharaoh of Ancient Egypt. Spent most of her free time knitting tiny mummy costumes for bunnies.

  • Leonardo da Vinci: Inventor and artist, da Vinci is one of the world's most beloved creative minds. While best known for his paintings, da Vinci was always proudest of his abilities as a human beat-box.

"I KNOW WHAT YOUR THINKIN,ITS TIME FOR LINCOLN" and from that one phrase you know this game isnt going to take its self to seriously, and thank god it doesnt.
Ok so you rev up the game and get to choose from a list of "DEAD" heroes (or villians depending on your outlook on life) and i choose to go with good old "ABRAHAM LINCOLN" why i hear you cry,he has a chainsaw and i pondered on the sort of game i was about to play and thought "EVIL DEAD" here i come so it was just a given that i would choose good old "ABE" as he has his chainsaw as weapon of choice and does a mean spin attack with it (move over "ASH" theres a new zombie slayer in town).
Then i thought who shall i back up old "ABE" with and i decided to go with "QUEEN ELIZABETH THE 1ST" as she has a mean gattling gun and the ability to summon the flag of the "UK" and if you stand near to this it regains your health between fights (OH and the dialogue she comes out with is hilarious to boot).
Down to the blood and guts of the game (so to speak),the graphics really are in this games favour as the comical style of your enemies plays upto the graphics engine perfectly (the cat lady is one of my favorite enemies-I HAVE SOMEONE LIKE THIS LIVING UP THE ROAD FROM ME,GOD SHES A NIGHTMARE).
The sound and music is just right for this sort of game and really suits the action happening on screen and changes to suit the situation your in,the spoken dialogue adds no end to the games appeal and the things that the characters say at times is just pure comedy gold with one liners coming thick and fast during the action (thought that i was in an "ARNIE" movie from the 80s at one point "STICK AROUND" HAHA).
The gameplay just flows and for this sort of game that is important as its a game you will find yourself having quick bursts at (i didnt got so addicted-but thats just me) with your mates (I DONT HAVE ANY WWAAHHHHHHH HAHA-i havent played much co-op yet) and both yourself and they will have one hell of a time trying not only to beat the others score but also to keep each other alive.
I havent played much co-op yet but from the little i have played i like it,its very much the same as the single player just harder and even more frantic as you try to beat your friends hi score,("HEY I HAD THAT ENEMY"--"SO WHAT"--"WHAT DO YOU MEAN SO WHAT YOU MOTHER HUBBARD") and beat it you will but then they'll beat yours and of starts yet another rivalry over yet another game.
I have played through the game in single player mode and loved every moment i have spent in its demented and oft hilarious presence, this game is one that certainly has a whacky sence of humour and one that for me i just couldent stop laughing at (OR stop playing,GOD the sleepless nights).
Will you love this game as i did well answer the following questions -
1 - Do i like a game with a real sence of humour that will at times have me in stitches ?
2 - Do i like shooters that i can team up with my friends on and blast about for a couple of hours ?
3 - Do i think that games take themselves to seriously and i want something just to play and not have to think about ?
4 - And finally do i just want to play a great game full of laughs and more blood and guts than you can shake a stick at ?
If you answered yes to the above then what are you waiting for get moster bashing and if not then still pick up this game as it will be one that will surprise you at just how good it actually is.

Fun, polished, playfully deranged :-) isometric action game that's a colorful treat both solo and 4-player co-op, featuring a dedicated server, integrated voice chat and simple text chat in-game (not a given these days, I've played many co-op games with no in-game text chat whatsoever).

By playfully deranged, I mean where else might you play as a cloned Napoleon racing around on top of a cannon chasing giant-roach-riding zombies, or a chainsaw-wielding Abe Lincoln battling a boss monster who tosses hordes of shopping mall merchandise at you? It gets much more playfully twisted as you work your way through the maps. :)

3-player co-op gameplay footage
As far as what the game isn't -- it's not an action RPG with loot. You do unlock more characters to choose from, you do a very limited amount of leveling (damage per second, and total health points), and gradually pick up relics (powers with cooldowns) from three categories, and you can switch these up between/before levels. However, there's no loot per se, no equipment, no changing of your weapons etc.

So if you *need* that, this isn't the game for you. I just wouldn't want buds going into this expecting an action RPG with a big skills tree and loot etc. It's a crazy fun game, it's just of Diablo and its ilk. I'm not exactly show how to categorize it, might be a bit more in the MOBA category, to some exttent.
Interface observations:
-Partial controller support (I haven't tried w/ a controller yet)
-Key bindings fully configurable
-This is a "use a,w,s,d keys to move, use mouse to aim" type game, not a Diablo clickfest, for better or worse
-Spacebar (default) lets you dash a moderate distance (expect to do that a lot
-Controls seem very crisp, no complaints
-Controller support is not in the game at this time

-Drop-in co-op (i.e., you can start solo, and folks can join your game in progress)
-Checkbox for private games
-Dedicated server, has a lobby with text chat, and a list of your Steam friends for inviting purposes
-Briefly joined another players's game.
-G key is default "voice chat" in co-op so that seems to be integrated
-ENTER lets you do some text chat in game (appears in bottom, middle part of screen)
-If you fall too far behind another player, the game will warn you that you will be teleported to that player's location in X number of seconds
-You can unlock several other characters to play as. Just unlocked one, but don't want to spoil it for new players :)
-Each character seems to have two different attacks (left mouse button, right mouse button), and up to 3 relics, which seem to be buffs with cooldown timers (these can be swapped in and out of the 1, 2, 3 slots between levels)

-You always (even in co-op) can switch between two chosen characters while playing. But only ONE is actually in the game at any given time (you don't have one character, and then AI controlling the other like in, say, Darkstone). If one dies, then the other one is still available for you to switch to until he/she dies. It's an interesting gameplay mechanic, imho. One relic will let you "pop up" after dying, but you need to have enough mana/energy to trigger it.

-In my limited co-op experience it's very fun and for the most part, very stable.

-Bright, fun graphics and very cool animations
-Jovial music
-Pretty cool sound FX though some of the guns seems a bit subdued, I guess loud gunfire would become grating given the repetitiveness of it here

-I just feel like there's a certain impact that's missing when you hit something with a sword or with bullets/cannon balls. It just felt a bit disconnected to me, which may just be par for the course for a mobile swipe game ported to PC. Or maybe they thought a satisfying "crunch" when you whack something with a sword would be a repetitive, annoying sound (could be).

It's just when I swing a melee weapon in this game I feel like I'm just swinging at thin air, don't get the satisfying "scrunch" feeling I'm used to in other isometric action games or action RPGs. I suspect it may have to do with this game being a mobile swipe game initially, or perhaps to avoid players getting stuck in the environment, it's been designed so there's no "collision detection" between players' characters and enemy zombies.

Several of us have had similar observations about Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms, an action RPG in Early Access.

-No local co-op play in the current version.

Thought I would give this new (7-4-14) game a try.
My first impression is that it's pretty fun, a little challenging at points, and a bit of grinding added to the top. Overall I had a blast playing it and look forward to playing some more in the future.

Having played a part in the Beta, I can promise a wickedly good time playing as you plow through the undead as the people you only read about in history books
