Mit mondanak a fejlesztők:

“Hello everyone,

'Caribbean!' is currently in the alpha state and has reached the stage where it could really use some of the players' feedback.

The game has its basic features already in, and content-wise (weapons, armor, locations, sounds) we're 70% done. What we're mostly planning to do from this point is to build upon and improve what we already have with regular updates and your help.

You might be put off by the current simple economic system, visually incomplete locations and balance problems — these parts of the game will be reworked during the Early Access stage.

Check out the official forum and the store page below for current and planned features.

The price is lowered during the early access stage, all future updates come for free. Full version release is planned for Autumn 2014.”

Status update #5

Hi everyone,

We wanted to share another status update and along with it give a warning that the next update will take a while to be finished. But it should be the biggest update for us since the Early Access launch, and if everything goes as planned, the game will smoothly enter the beta phase.

Here's what we'll be working on for the next month:

1. Creating new mechanism for quest assignments.

Giving out quests in Mount & Blade series always depended on certain characters. But sometimes it's not very convenient as the lord the gave you a quest could be taken prisoner and you'd have to wait for his grace to be released in order to receive your hard earned reward.

2. Adding new quests.

We want to redo the quest system completely. Firstly, no more 'go to the village on the edge of the map and kill a character with 'Suspicious guy' tooltip. Meaning we'd like to reduce the amount of FedEx-quests and replace them with a bit more meaningful actions. Secondly, we want to divide the quests by trading and military ones. A peaceful player that doesn't really want to rob and kill others and likes trading should be rewarded for his play style. So a part of the quests will be dedicated to battles and killing, another — for trading and money making.

3. Changing the renown system.

We're planning to make renown a main capital for the player. If you're a known captain, you'll always be able to gather a gang of thugs ready to die for you during Spanish colony assault. If you're a known merchant, you'll always be able to find investors ready to give you their business share. But not the other way around.

4. Updated city screen.

Just as a reminder, the current version of the city screen is a placeholder. We'll do our best to make it prettier and load a bit faster.

5. New strategic map.

The current strategic map is filled with graphical artifacts, impassable seas and what not. Not to mention the not so realistic geography. New map will be done in an absolutely different visual style that was never used in M&B games. So far this idea sounds risky, but we hope you'll like it.

It's quite difficult to know for sure how much time all of this will take, so no certain dates for now. However, we hope to finish working on these tasks before the New Year.

'Caribbean!' is a sandbox pirate RPG that blends the most engaging melee and firearms combat with naval battles, detailed crew management and the deep atmosphere of the pirate era.

  • Ability to improve ship artillery and ship's crew.
  • A set of special perks available for player's character.

Plans for the near future:

This game,
is a game based on Mount and Blade. It looks like a mod, but its a full game.
Its early access so most content is missing.

What you can do so far:
-lead your own army of cavalry, infantry, cannons and sailsips
-govern small villages and large cities, customise them
-ally with the 5 nations (Spain, Netherland, England, France and the Pirates) or start your own kingdom
-level up and customise your characters look and equipment
-accept small quests
-trade with the ports/villages

El Presidentes rating:
When this game is done, you will get a decent pirate game based on Mount and Blade. The already integrated features are already good, but could use small reworks. But that is what early access is made for.

Okay here is my review and i hope that you and the makers of this game read it. (pardon for spelling)

I give this game about a 3.5 out of five stars

Pros- It has the MB feel to it which is satisfying. Yes is a F.S. version but if you read it it clearly states it.
This game has a HUGE amount of potential. Just about everything runs smooth. Plus think of the wonderful mods you'll probably be able to find on the darkest corner of the internet.
Land battles are smooth and indepth to a degree. Will be better with the use of cannons ;)
New format for towns. It is a bit weird but cool
Able to make a town produce what you choose (with resources available)
Cons
Naval Battles are clunky and laggy. But bare-able.
No aiming reticle for Naval Battles
No companions
When climbing to the crows nest you could lag off and drown
No commands for allied ships
Controlling towns i think should be more in depth especially if you played warband diplomacy. That mod engine could greatly benefit this game. And i think there should be other options to sieging.

Yes this is a beta version, But honestly i dont think you guys are at 70% completion. And i hope you aren't. 30/40% sounds better. I have faith in you guys, This has a VERY high potential rate. If done right this game could last years.
I felt this game was worth it, and im able to put up with the bugs and glitches. But hey that's me. If you're not sure you should get it, add it to the wishlist and check the updates and news periodically.

So far, so good. Can't wait to see where this game goes. Takes me back to my 100's of hours in M&B: Warband (this game is on the same engine). Great ship battles. Still in early access, so you do come across some WTF moments, but well worth the money in my opinion.

Check it out :)

Conceptually, this is a wonderful game. Since it is in the early stages it is very rough. With time and effort it will be, in my opinion, comparable or even better than Mount and Blade.

There are still a deal of bugs abd glitches that need to be addressed. I recommend waiting until further development to play.

Hello Devs.
First congratulations on your work! Caribbean shows excellent promise!
I want to suggest something:
In the current build of the game you can dock your ship in one city, go to some other city by land and sail away from there. This is not realistic at all! Who moves your ship if you are away? How does your ship appear into another random harbor without you moving it?
I SUGGEST YOU LOCK SHIP'S LOCATION TO THE CITY WHICH DOCKS IT.
Or make a gameplay option which allows the player to appoint one of his companions as a co-captain with a part of the crew to reside at the ship. The player would be given an option to land somewhere and order his co-captain to sail the ship to other port, BUT not just any port - only player chosen port on the same isle he landed.
Also, please consider adding a docking locations different from city's ports - for example, isolated bays and/or natural harbors. This would give the player a lot more freedom how to play.
Thank you!

Unfortunately, however much I wanted to like this game, I simply can't reccomend it to anyone in it's current state. I can't do any of the following
1. Go into towns
2. Fight land battles
3. Fight Naval Battles without it crashing
So if I can't do any of those things, all I can do is make my character and run around a map of the Carribean. If you like the idea of this game, I'd wait a little bit longer until Snowbird polish things up a little. I appreciate the vision that the developers are going for; but in it's current state (7/10/14) I can't reccomend it.

While currently practically unplayable (since the last patch anway, this could change soon), this game should eventually be very fun. From what I've seen the prospects look good. Only buy it now if you're willing to wait a good while for a polished version and want the small discount.

I'm always a fan of M&B, I love it. I jumped on this game immediately hoping for an almost expansion pack looking game. First, I found there to be little visual improvements, which is to be expected due to the developers using the Fire & Sword engine. I enjoyed the game for a while, but I always felt like I was playing F&S with a new map. The naval battles were slow and clunky with awkward and slow movement and confusing combat. I would enjoy the naval battles more if the cannon shots could actually be seen, because often I wouldn't know where I'm shooting. I quickly gained wealth by selling pirate ships I had taken with ease. I wish the start would be harder. I traveled around recruiting militia and took the amazingly undermanned fort in Florida. The combat was very simple and when I took the town, I noticed something I have always loved in mods. There were many options for improving my town. I'm still playing, but it is getting dull pretty quickly.

Overall, I think it's an okay game, but not good enough to be standalone. I understand it's in 0.8, but to be honest it should be more like 0.4. Many things are lacking such as quests, places to visit, companions, troop upgrades, etc.

There is too little in this game and it's hardly releasable. I look forward to several updates, however, as this game has a lot of potentional, but until then, save your money.

This review is on a VERY EARLY ACCESS game so bear in mind that many changes will take place as time goes by.
Great Potential in this game. Yes, it is almost a replica of M&B in some aspects. However, it also has an early type of sea battle system that is remmenicent of sea dogs minus the first person ship command so far.

Pros:
1. Simple mechanics that are too easy to learn and if you have M&B anything you already know.
2. Large map with great potential with a fresh graphic feel that will prove easy to mod.
3. Ship buying, boarding and caprturing in ship crew to ship crew combat, sinking , selling, upgrading.
4. Balanced economy with room for tweaking and adding to for better trading.
5. There are a lot of little aspects thus far that show unique flavor and originality under the "familiar" aspects.

Cons:
1. Early access so obviously there is limited content.
2. Bugging issues with shipt to ship combat where characters will start off so as to fall in the ocean and die.
3. Being that it is so much like M&B there is monotiny in the majority of non ship combat.

Overall I would highly recomend this game, the poitential is here for a realy fun pirate game.

So, I heard of this game from my friend, saying it was just like "Pirate M&B". So, I look it up, and I have to say, I'm not dissapointed! If you loved M&B F&S Campaign, you'll love this 100x more. At first, I didn't really like the look of it, due to it being an early alpha, I figured, "eh, ♥♥♥♥ it" and got it.

*NOTE* I know this is an early alpha, so don't give me crap about it*

Before I start I have to say the bugs are VERY annoying. If you change your res in-game it crashes, and certain res's I guess make the water not appear, making the game look ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. But, I learned to deal with it and continued on playing.

The actual game is ♥♥♥♥ing AWESOME, and you know it is when I say ♥♥♥♥ in it. There isn't much to do, but what there is, makes up for it. The game takes place in the early 1700's, during the wars of the Spanish, French, and British, in the Carribean/Southern Americas, (I.e Florida/texas down to south america). The ammount of detail already put in is astounding. Matter of fact, ground-breaking. The game uses the Mount and Blade: Fire&Sword engine/layout. It's pretty much the same exact game. But in a diffrent setting with LOADS of new stuff, I'll put them in sections.

Land Battles/Seiges: The land battles have SO much options. Rather then the old fashion "CHAAAAAAAAAAAARGE" you can use some strategy, you can purchase ♥♥♥♥ING CANNONS AND HAVE THEM BE USED!!! There is a way to use them manualy, I think, I don't know how though. There is tons of units, such as Skirmishers, Line Infantry, Marines, Cannon crews, Ship crews (Which I will get on to next section), Heavily armed Ship crew, Pikemen, Melee Infantrysmen, cavalry, even some I don't even know. But one problem is, you never really need to use them. The armies never go out of their forts, you're usually fighting via sea, or bandits, rather then other armies. The artillery is awesome. You can watch your men load/fire the cannons, the animations are even better then the Mount and Blade: Warband, Napoleonic Wars animations. The firing is a bit slow, the ammount of time they take to aim/fire is way too long, a battle could be over by the time they begin firing, ecspecially with the tiny ammount of men you engage with . There is some sort of pannel for formatons, I can't get it to work, and I'll touch up on bugs, as-well. But for seiges, they're pretty basic ladder-charging. They're adding WAY more to them though :D.

Naval Combat: Due to the bug where you can't see the water, these can get kinda boring, but if you get it to work, they're cool, but kinda boring. You just float around, hailing thousands of cannon-balls at eachother, there are other shots, such as grape, and chain, but it dosen't really do anything diffrent, if you hit, smoke appears on the vessel, but that's about it. You can board, but they're really lame, just simple charges on a board. The ship detail is ♥♥♥♥ING AMAZING. With only two ship types, (I think), you can look around these for a short time, it is just plain awesome. If they put more scenes/activities where you roam freely on your ship, interacting with crew, or maybe even sailing in a third-person view, that would make it 50403504503450340530x better, but, for now, they kinda suck. You can upgrade your cannons, and crew, but meh. It still kinda blows.

Bugs: The games bugs are ♥♥♥♥ing frustrating as hell. Sometimes you can't even see the ocean in campaign, but a weird dirt texture, and in battles, it's just clear. Other then that, they're not really that bad, If you change resolution in game, it crashes, if you have too much units clumped up, it can lag a bit. Not really a bug, but in-convineant. Other then that, that's about it for bugs.

Now, your question is, "Is it worth buying now for $15 in it's current state?" Now, that depends. If you like just roaming around, doing boring seiges, but AWESOME land battles, with arty and tons new weapons/armor/units, but never really using them, sure. It can still be fun. But it needs some work.

Final verdict, is a 6/10. It's fun, but needs alot of work.

Well, I re-read my review a few times, asked friends, and it had to me, I left out alot of problems.

Problems Pt 2: Even though this game is fun, it has numerous problems. I'm gonna start with the Land-combat. Like I said before, you'll never need to use half of the units they include in this. I mean, You barley need musket men For the sake of humanity, it;s in 1650! Muskets were needed! But despite that, I still can't explain ALL of the problems with land battles, cause that'd be going into M&B. But, despite all of the "Change" that is going to happen, the current state now, the Land Battles are copy-paste battles from M&B. If you're lucky enough to encounter an army outside of a fort, you're a lucky ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. but. they're just too easy. No matter how much men I have, I always win. They just blindly charge into cannon-fire, and musket fire. No strategy or tactics. Hell, on F&S, at least they tried to counter with cav. And they don't even have cav units! WTF?

Let's move on to the Naval Battles. I discovered you can destroy an enemy vessel with one of three ways.

1: You can Round-shoot the ♥♥♥♥ out of them, sinking them.

2: You can use the "Chain-shot" to tear their masts apart.

3: My favorite, you can use Grape-Shot you obliterate the enemy crew, then board/sink them.

This is AWESOME, but it needs alot of work. Like, the game is supposed to be based with navy. Your 6th sense on this game is ♥♥♥♥ing water. And the fact that the naval engagements are, Laggy/Choppy, clunky, and boring. And just plain ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. The boarding is fun, if you plan it strategicly, but. You can't ram them, nor can you blast them point blank, because if you're just tad bit too close they can board you. Even at ridiculous ranges. (I'll post SS's later) If you're gonna base a game on naval battles. Then please, god make them playable. Sure, you can get by. But it just sucks. Also, the chance of clashing with fellow large fleets it really low. Also, whilst boarding another ship, alot of times an enemy or two get stuck off of the ship, or under, forcing yourself to retreat. You'll find yourself, sceaming "FIIIIIIIIIIAAAAAAAH DA CANNUUUUUNS" at a trade ship (lol).

Difficulty: The difficulty on this game, in my opinion is way too easy. It dosen't take much to devistate navy's/armies. Even with all of the difficulty opitions, it still feels way too easy. Meh. AI Needs an improvement, imo :/

Seiges/towns: Oh please don't get me started on these. These are awful. Just awful. You have no option, but charge up the ladders. Can't bomb walls, can't build seige equipment, and hell. You can't even disguise into towns. If you're ever at war with everyone, and you have a damaged ship. You're in trouble.

Faction likings/joining nations: No matter what you do, you CANNOT join any nation. I've done quests for the french guy, helped the French with the spainards, just refused to help me, but rather thought of me as an enemy, for destroying spanish fleets. GG. G ♥♥♥♥ing G.

Anyway, my final verdict now for finding about/mentioning most of these problems in a 5/10. Also, I forgot to mention. The game has really bad optomisation. Like, any smoke will drop your frames. Anyway, I'll update my review next update.

quick overview

Good:

- Good gameplay for alpha Stage
- Plenty of guns and armor for choice
- Nice customization for character
- Some nice new commands for ai to work with
- Ai are pretty decent for Alpha Stage
- Textures and visuals are really good
- ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ships man ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!! ships shooting each other and boarding included and you can command your crew anywhere and go to ports to train them and upgrade or buy and sell ships
- Your character can gain traits now a nice RPG addition to the game

Bad:

- Ship gameplay is a little slow
- Muskets and other gun sounds are a little to weak and are not as good as NPW or mount and musket had them
- Ai though good for alpha stage are sometimes a little too idiotic
- Using cannon does not feel as good and smooth as NPW had it
- Economy is weak (devs have said it is at the moment so cant really gripe about it)
- Crashes which can affect gameplay which is bound to happen in Alpha but still a bad thing

Overall a solid game for alpha stage and if you do not mind the odd crash to desktop and some bugs and glitches it is worth the price I think. Also it has axe pistols so you chops and slice and shoot your foes. There are plenty of other things I could say but I do not have the time and so if the devs want to contact me to ask about other improvements go ahead :).

I'm a big fan of the Mount & Blade series.
I bought the game a few hours ago with great expectations.

However I did not find what i was looking for.
I expected epic changes and many ideas implented.
The combat is slow and the sea battles are pretty simple, boring and time consuming.
Even on the battlefield you simply feel like playing Mount & Blade, nothing else. It is pretty much the same, the only added thing is the Caribbean.

The current battlefield can barely support any troops before lagging out like crazy.
Firing a cannon causes my screen to go black for a couple of seconds/minutes. By the time i was able to tab back in i found myself killed.

I also did not manage to find any quests or actual goal rather than simply capturing ships and selling them.
I could not even contact a faction leader or high ranked, or communicate with villages at all.
It's pretty easy and pretty much the same as Mount & Blade (with Fire and Sword). New things were barely added. The things we are waiting for are things such as Tavern's WHICH we already had in Mount & Blade. It's just a huge rip-off
Even though this is the Alpha release, i had bigger expectations for V0.8.
As i just spend 15 Euros on this game and realised this game is nothing more than a minor expansion, I remember playing a pirate mod for Mount & Blade which even concluded way more content than this.

I expected a new game using the M&B engine. But it's not.
I would not recommend this game, download a mod for Mount & Blade instead. It's mods are free after all.
This game is not worth it's 15 euros.

I am honestly disappointed.

Overall a good game. Has a lot of potential. Yes, it needs fixes, but that is the whole point of Early Access.

Pros:
- 95% of the textures are 5x better than the original Mount and Blade: Warband textures.
- Naval combat with different types of ammo and over 30 different ships.
- Boarding combat with boarding jump ropes, crow's nests, and climbing.
- New and overhauled city screen.
- Better looting of resources. Trade screen is better.
- Ability to upgrade your ship and her cannons.
- Field artillery that shoots grapeshot. Gunners can man the artillery.
- A trait system.
- A good crew/ship/soldiers manegement screen.
- Interesting weapons, like the axe-pistol.
-New command system with minimap.
- Much more!
Cons:
- Many bugs, such as falling and glitching off the mast while climbing.
- You will find that when you control a field cannon yourself you reload really fast. OP.
- I find that the damage done to a ship by each individual cannonball needs to be increased. The naval battles go at a slow pace, making boarding 10x more fun.
- Almost no quests, leaving you too conquering and attacking as a passtime.
- Sieges always use the same map.
- You climb the ship masts and ropes too fast.

Overall a good game. I would like to see it flourish and get popular. If you think it looks fun and/or feel like supporting it, go ahead. I think it's worth it.
