'Caribbean!' is a blend of economic strategy and open-world RPG, set in the pirate era of XVII Century Caribbean. The game is based on the significantly improved Mount & Blade: Warband engine.

'Caribbean!' lets players decide their own role and create their own adventure.

Those who crave for battles in jungles, raids on rich cities and capturing enemy ships can choose the path of a pirate and a mercenary who will rise to the top, with the help of his own sword.

Those who aren't afraid of the words 'financial planning' may take pleasure in making great deals and expanding their enterprise by choosing the path of a merchant and businessman. Power and wealth can be achieved whichever path you choose.

Of course, if you're tired of fighting and boarding enemy ships, you can always invest your collected savings in good real estate. Or do it the other way around — sell all of your industry, acquire a fine brig and become a pirate.

Features:

  • Naval battles with controllable ships and boarding fights.
  • Building and management of commercial property in towns.
  • Detailed crew and fleet management.
  • Rank progression system for military and business options.
  • Advanced order and control system for armies in land battles.
  • Mysterious and engaging storyline.

hey guys, I hope the devs read this comment.
U use the M&B engine but u forgot basic features that m&b already had, why (marriage, diplomacy...)?
there are not enough tooltips, i still dont know what "use solid balls" does and if its on or off when i click the symbol...
positioning ur troops on the battlefield is a wonderful idea but if u put the flag somewhere ur troops end up not on the exact same position as the flag but slightly to the left. if u have a few troops in the same spot it gets almost impossible to select a specific class/group of troops.

boarding ships is so boring, those battles could be epic but since all ur companions complain if u lose more than 10 (or so) sailors in the action i end up shooting the crews of other ships with grapeshot first, so i almost always only have to fight 3 guys on a boarding action vs a 1st rate of line ship, are u serious?!

and why cant we adjust the positions of our troops in boarding actions or town sieges?

why cant we tell our own ships which ammunition to use?

i cant really talk to any nobles, esp not if u meet them at sea.
I got to the point where my faction was at war with anotherone, we both were at war with the brotherhood.
i destroyed so many ships of the brotherhood that my reputation for the faction i was at war with rose so high, that despite the fact i am at war with them they are respetful.
that results in me not being able to siege their towns anymore cus the game "thinks" i am a friend of theirs.
if two captains are in a fight with their fleets and u join in, its only ur ships vs the opponents and not a joint venture with all the ships of all captains.
the naval battle map is a little too small...
is there friendly fire in naval battles? my ships tend to shoot my flagship cus i get between them and the enemy (for example if i try to board another ship my own ships dont give a f++ and still shoot.
why cant i leave the tavern with tab? its so annoying to run all the way back again.
why the heck does it take so long to load up the shipwright and the tavern, cant u make that a little more simplistic?
No training grounds? :(
there is not much to do overall.
just capture towns (which is fairly easy) sink enemy ships (which is not really hard either) and then???
I am just hunting down all lords of all the factions i am in war with, its really boring...

btw LUCKY LEADER trait is broken...

and as i mentioned above: tooltips FFS, if u dont tell us how ur game works, do u expect us to try and error until we know what the different outcomes are?

im sorry for saying this but i expected a lot more.

but as u can see, many small easy fixes and you should get there! (probably not before M&B2 gets released but u cant have everything, right? :D)

A good game I am enjoying it so far though I have my reservations, cities seem rather bland as you cannot walk around the city and see the cityfolk going about their day to day, also the 'world' map is just flat, though you see mountains and hills and such defined on the map the actual walking is, well there is no physics (This is not the same as battlefields). I really don't like the fact that many of the aspects that made Mount and Blade so immersive is missing like most prominently the empty taverns and lack of community due to the point and click city maps and not being able to go everywhere (like the governors mansion). The trade system and building resource buisnesses is a lot of fun but needs a proper tutorial I think.

Though it seems I am downplaying the game, the organising of troops before battle is a very nice touch (but enemies still seem to be able to shoot your character even when they are completely surrounded by enemies), the trade and governing system is great (though a proper tutorial for both would be nice) and friendly fire (muskets and pistols) and the fact that you lose morale if you kill an ally is good. The naval battles are fun (though I have had range problems, my cannons seem to have a problem firing at enemies who are NOT just about to board my ship whilst I get blasted left, right and center). The period setting is great. The realism of muskets and pistols in which it takes on average 4-6 seconds to reload is great.

I would recommend a buy if you are a Mount and Blade fan, but if you're a casual I suggest waiting for a while longer as there are still updates being developped.

If you played Mount and Blade and enjoyed yourself and you like pirates bam too easy this game is for you. If you played Total War at all and you wish you had control over one guy on the field bickety bam there you go get this game. If neither of those fit well you just need to expand your experiences man.

I'll skip the wall of text review and keep it short.

Cost 2x as much as Sid Meier's Pirates and isn't nearly as good. Feels unfinished and unpolished. It is receiving constant updates, but I am not a fan of developers finishing/fixing a game after release.

Overall I would say my biggest gripe, and this is something that bugs the hell out of me, is how hard it is to get immersed in this game: constant load screens, dialog mix of period and modern, naval maps with voids as edges. There are a lot of things that just pull me out of the game world.

I would not recommend this at its current price.

Game is great. Bad reviews are because. developers released too early and cutt a bunch of important promised features. This is assuredly a horrible sign, however, since release they have continued to patch and add in features a little bit at a time. I think these developers are smart and know whats at stake, and that this game has SO MUCH potential to be amazing. This game is already fun, but I hope the developers keep on adding on to it!

Great, addicting game. I'll cut to the chase:

Pros:
+Naval battles, I mean NAVAL FRICKIN' BATTLES and really good ones too. Not so indepth where it's super complicated and hard to navigate the controls, it's user friendly and definitely worth learning and pursuing. Last thing about the ships, you can board the ships and fight on ships...seriously sick, then you can capture it if you'd like

+You have the ability to manage your city once aquired. Decent amount of options, what you can build to further the town's wealth bringing you more income, building barracks/training camps to have better soilders and building better docks to aquire better ships.
+You get a FIELD CANNON, I mean enough said right?

Once you get the hang of the game it's very addicting so keep an eye on the clock. It's the same engine used for Mount & Blade.

Cons

-Not to great of troop selection outta all the factions, pretty much if you're with pirates you get the suckiest troops to work with, so you end up grabbing the other faction's troops to compete with them in battles

-Some times your guys are just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, just like in M&B how your guys can go ♥♥♥♥♥♥, they do that more frequently though. Your calvary will ride to the end of the map more times then not and just get stuck their..eventually dismount and continue attacking the enemy kinda defeating the purpose of having calvary. But not always just sometimes.

-So far after 60+ hours on the sucker, I've had the game randomly shut off for no reason a few times, so definitely would recommend the automatic saving deal.

-Took me awhile to understand how to get money to get troops to get renown to get better ships to accomplish missions to get more money...see how long this is taking. Your best source of income comes from trading and with THAT you'll need to find out which goods sell best at which towns. I personally ended up trading with the pirates since you dont' have to pay a tax fee entering into their towns, you just become enemies with the Spanish, for some reason they get butt hurt about that.

I see a lot of great potential for this game and from what I've seen, it's a very promising game and even at it's early stages I'd recommend this game to buy, just keep in mind it ain't finished and has random bugs.
Hope this was helpful take care & God Bless!

I love pirates, and I´ve grown to love the mount and blade mechanics, but as it is right now, I wouldn´t recommend this game. It steel feels clunky, like an alpha.
If the game ever gets finished, I think it´ll be a great game to sink hundreds of hours.

I think this game has great combat and great features just like Mount and Blade but the feature are improved but I think they need to fix the issue of the game running like crap every 30 an hour by that point I have to use an ice pack on my computer to get it cold enough for the game to run normaly.

i love this style of game and have enjoyed all of the mount and blade titles but currently i am having a huge problem with the ship combat there are two things keeping me from enjoying them the first and most annoying is that after peperring a ship with grapeshot untill only 10 crew remain somehow they can still takeover my ship if my 6 men and me loose the on deck fight even though they only have 10 men total and i had over 50! no reinforcment will arive and i have to flee too a weaker ship loosing my prize vessal. second is the fact that the only controll over your charicter during these battles is when boarding an enemy vessal i cant order all ships to line up wait for the enemy while pepering them with cannon and gunfire or actually see my charicter steer the ship while my men go about there work preping the cannons and sails somthings thatt i was really looking forward too. it is a great game with great battles but i hope these issues are fixed i still recomend it for anyone interested as it does update very often.

Apparently as of today this game is no longer "early access" and is now to be considered "fully released". Realistically speaking however, over the course of the last 2-3 months, the game went from being a sporadically updated alpha with poor communication on the part of the development team, to being thrown into "beta" after a sudden annoucement of feature cuts, and is now "released" in much the same state as it was in alpha, although now I suppose there is a bit of a cleaner UI, and a few additional new environments/scenes.

Having observed the course of development, and having pursposefully refrained from making serious critical judgement until the game was officially released, I can now confidentally say this game barely lives up to the standards one might expect of a "released" free mod for Mount and Blade Warband (Carribean uses a slightly modified version of the Warband engine I believe) let alone a stand alone title with an asking price of $20.

The developers promise future work on the game, but personally, I've seen absolutely nothing to insipire any confidience that they will live up to that promise and add anything to the game in any meaningful way. I suppose it's theoretically possibe they've met with complications during development process that are potentially better addressed "post-release", but I'm not holding my breath, nor should you if you're considering buying it for what it might be in the future.

I am a massive fan of the Mount & Blade series, and naval action games in general. So when this game was announced, it had my attention, big time! The idea of sailing those old ships-of-the-line accross vast oceans, and traipsing through thick jungles in the Amazon, and heading in and walking around and taking in the sights of such famous carribean ports as, Tortuga, Panama, Port Royal, and checking out the drunken sailor nightlife in a variety of taverns, maybe do some wenching, etc... EXCITING! All of this and more promises by an ambitous developer who was lucky enough to get the rights to an amazing engine (M&B)!

So... when I got it... WELL... it was only early-release alpha... you got to expect bare-bones to start with... Sailing was clunky and responds in a slightly contrived manner. The traveling map was only somewhat detailed, but offered navigation points, both small and large. The ports sights, were... NON-existent, they actually got rid of the immersive walk-about, and replaced it with a generic, one style fits all ports, unresponsive town map... and NO taverns, no wenching, basically minimal NPC interaction.

That's okay, though, that's just Alpha, Early Release right? They got a lot of feedback, overwhelming even... bring back the towns, the sights, the immersion, etc (so common in even the smallest of and oldest of M&B games (and mods).

So, we have official release coming now (in 2 days), and... everything is... about the same... except some areas are even more minimalized. DEVS say they will launch all the planned features later, after official release, that they will see how official release works, and get the bugs out, etc.

SERIOUSLY? What was the alpha and beta testing for, if not to get the base game bugs out? Of course it was a great way to get paid for doing... very little.

I've seen M&B (free) mods 10x more polished, and feature-filled than this "full game"... I am very dissapointed. The excuses are plenty, and the spin is abundant, but the polish and playability of the game is severely lacking for a standalone full game. I've rarely seen a company act with so little proffessionalism and plain-face justify their failures. You WILL get more game, more features, more optirmization, and better developer response from some of the amazing mods (and their teams), than from these people.

VERDICT:

My advice, save your money, and download some amazing free (M&B) mods with oceans more content and playability than this game. ... And maybe the DEVS will take note, and make good on the promised content, and make this worth... something...

The game is still in alpha phase, but it doesn't tell you that until you've already bought it. Graphics are so horribly optimized that even though it doesn't look any better than Mount & Blade: Warband, my computer can barely run it. Town menus are so broken that half of the game functions are inaccessible. As much as I like the idea, and as much as I love the Mount & Blade series, I cannot recommend this in good conscience.

This game has a truly wonderful premise, and when I got it i was very excited to play it. I thought: 'what could be better than Mount and Blade with ships and pirates?'. I was sadly mistaken. The game is only in alpha version, and is well on the way to being a good, if not great game. The only problem was that releases were continually pushed further and further back. Which is ok: I am more than patient enough to wait for a decent product. But now the company has just released a statement saying there will be one more update, and a few bug-fixing patches, and that is all that the game will get. This company has completely screwed all of its customers, because this game is far from ready to release. The graphics are still terrible, there is no storyline, items are broken and unexplained: it has only the bare bones of a game. That is why I will never recommend this game to anyone unless the company continues to update it. Not only will I not buy more early-releases, but I will never buy from this company again because I cannot condone them essentially stealing from their customers.

Are these modders out of their ♥♥♥♥ing minds? This game is a buggy, sloppy, tacky piece of worthless ♥♥♥♥. Please take the game back into alpha and actually ♥♥♥♥ING FINISH IT(or atleast get it to where it would pass for beta).

EDIT: I guess it's a little bit better now. However, there is no incentive to even begin playing, when you start off with a fleet and a fortune.

I suppose it's my fault that I got burned with this one, since I ignored the huge amounts of negative reviews and decided to give this game a shot anyways. Of course this glorified M&B mod was released right at the height of both my Warband and pirate (One Piece, Black Sails) addictions, as if they knew the time was just right to reel in one more sucker desperate for a fresh naval combat game. Considering the developers are utilising such a tried-and-true engine, how bad could it be, right?

Well, for starters, it's clunky as all hell. The game makes very little effort to explain anything to you, apparently expecting you to already be familiar with the M&B controls. All well and good, since most of us probably are, except that they add a boatload (kek) of new concepts and leave you to sort them out for yourself. The most annoying issue I've had so far is trying to figure out how to operate the menus, specifically those related to trading goods and buying ships. Each screen is jumbled with numbers and data that probably won't make much initial sense.

Somehow, they made gameplay ripped almost completly from an existing title feel comparatively sluggish. The swashbuckling works, I guess, but it feels much more sloppy and unresponsive that what I've come to expect from any character that makes those familiar exaggerated grunting noises. Guns are handled with some degree of historical accuracy, I guess, since most require a significant reloading time. Ironically, this left me wanting to toss my flintlock aside for a good old-fashioned bow and arrows.

Naval battles are a complete joke; just hold down the spacebar and hope you sink the enemy first. There's probably more strategy once you get a bigger fleet, but even then, it's usually more fun and less risky to just pull up alongside your enemy and rally a boarding party. Of course, instead of using the convenient method of automatically obtaining the cargo from sunken vessels, you're required to turn around and touch overy single tiny crate with your hull, provided you don't want it to just drift uselessly. Missed a piece? Make another pass.

The worst part, for me at least, is how non-immersive the whole experience feels. Taverns are one-room log shacks crammed with idle nps you can't talk to, with the occasional merchant. Quests are boring and unimaginative; 'kill this many enemies, deliver this many units of cargo.' I don't give a damn about my allies, my crew, my ship, or, as hard as I tried, my own captain.

Initially, though, I still had hope. It's just gotten out of early access, maybe there were some unexpected kinks they need to work out, or features that got delayed for fine tuning. With their most recent announcement, though, the developers have stated, rather directly, in fact, than anyone who expects anything more out of this little project is kidding themselves. I didn't play in the early access, but apparently, those who did. as well as those who supported the kickstarter, were promised a massive assortment of features that have officially been canned, most notably multiplayer support.

In conclusion, my worst-case scenario turned out to be the right one: this is a shamless cash-grab from a gaggle of inexperienced, unprofessional modders. It doesn't really even feel right to call them developers. Maybe they got in over their heads with this. Fine! That's happened to all of us! We all know how it feels to overcommit to a project that's simply out of our league, and fail spectacularly. The difference is, anyone who has any scruples wouldn't ask hundreds of people to fund their little experiment, promising to develop specific content, unless they were positive of their ability to actually create said content.

To make an analogy, this feels like an ambitious young kid, fresh out of school, wanting to start up his own bakery. So he gets his friends, family, neighbors, his whole community to pitch in and help him fund a location of his own. Unfortunately, the most this boy has ever made in his life is some Krusteaz pancakes. But he was sure, so sure, that he could create great food if he really tried, that he promised all of his supporters as many delicious treats as they could eat for helping him out. When the time came, lo and behold, the product was far below expectations in quality, quantity, and variety. Two days later, the guy closes his bakery down. But, meh, no skin off his nose, right?
