About This Game

Junk, junk and even more junk. Life on the trash-planet Deponia is anything but a walk in the park. No surprise that Rufus had enough of that and hatches one ludicrous plan after the other to escape this bleak place.

When Rufus, on one of his attempts to leave Deponia behind, meets Goal, he not only falls madly in love with the beautiful girl from Elysium; he also accidentally shoves her right off her comfortable star cruiser and down to the desolate trash-planet. This accident kindles a new, brilliant plan: he needs to get Goal back to the floating city of Elysium – and while he's on it, he can also impersonate her sleazy fiance Cletus, who is the spitting image of Rufus for some reason. And thus, an exciting adventure begins...

Showered in top-scores and awards, the Deponia-Trilogy, created by the developers of Edna&Harvey: The Breakout, The Whispered World and Memoria, managed to reach cult-status almost instantly. Thanks to its exciting story, likeable characters and hilarious dialogues and a finely crafted mixture of comedy and puzzles, Deponia is enjoyable for both, young and old. Join Rufus on his thrilling journeys, for the first time in a complete edition with many new features, that will not only be a blast for hardcore adventure fans, but also those new to the genre.

Deponia: The Complete Journey does not include the new sequel Deponia Doomsday!

The story is not interesting. His slap stick comedy is not funny. I don't even know what this crap is.
And OMG, so many times i wanted to tell him to STFU. The main character endlessly babbles about stupid and pointless crap!

I know 2 people in real life like this main character, and I absolutely HATE them. Why on earth whould i want to endure endless antics by a ♥♥♥♥-brained ♥♥♥♥tard during my "fun" time?

Terrible!

This is hands down one of the greatest games I have ever played. The story is amazing. The artwork is astounding. And most importantly, the gameplay and puzzels are more original than anything you would ever get from any other game. Do yourself a massive favor, STOP READING REVIEWS because people leave massive spoilers in them, and just play the Deponia series. The less you know, the better!

This game contains the three first Deponia games in their entirety, but connected together almost seamlessly, and with added developer commentary (activated per-screen only, so you can safely ignore it if you don't want the behind-the-scenes stuff). You can really tell that Sierra and LucasArts of the 80's and 90's have inspired the humor and gaming style for all of the Deponia games, and it's wonderful to get a feeling of these games. If you buy this game, you don't need to buy "Deponia", "Chaos on Deponia" and "Goodbye, Deponia", although I still did (part because I wasn't sure they were all remasters of the three first games, and part because it's a quality game series which Daedelic deserves the extra cash for). In short, if you liked the original Monkey Island series, the King's Quest series, the Space Quest series, Day of the Tentacle, etc, you'll most likely enjoy the Deponia series.

Overall: Get this if you want a point-and-click adventure that looks good and are up for a silly story where the main character is an unlikeable jerk.

Graphics
The game looks good. I like the character designs and look of the world. It's also mostly well-animated.

I did hit some issues:
- Choppiness. Sometimes frames dropped. Sometimes characters lips were out of sync with the audio. Maybe this is a machine issue or a Mac issue.
- Bugs where characters would be facing the wrong way or in the wrong position for an animation.

Controls
Controls are fairly standard for a Point-and-click. You can do a few different things:
  • Left-click to interact with an object or person. For objects in your inventory, you can then click another object to have the two interact.
  • Right-click to look at an object or person
  • Scroll wheel to see inventory (or the I key)
  • Spacebar to highlight hot spots on the screen. I didn't know this was possible until over half way through the game. I only realized because I happened to click "Hints" on the Settings screen. Honestly, the tutorial at the beginning of each game really should have covered some of these "advanced" commands and shortcuts.

When you are trying to solve a puzzle, you'll be moving around a lot and potentially looking at the same thing multiple times. Luckily, you can usually speed things along:
  • Double-click to instantly transition between screens
  • The Escape key can sometimes skip animations and cutscenes. BUT not everything is skippable. If you click Escape during something that isn't skippable, then it takes you to the settings screen. I did this dozens of times on my playthrough and it was very frustrating. I wish they had used separate keys for "skip" and "go to settings".

Story and Characters
I have mixed feelings about the story and characters.
  • Rufus is a selfish, immature, narcissistic a-hole.
+ It's refreshing to be a jerk sometimes.
+ Such a character provided Daedalic the freedom to produce some fairly outrageous puzzles and story elements.
+ Some argue it's metacommentary on game main characters in general.
    - Rufus' character arc is very inconsistent. Daedalic couldn't seem to decide whether they wanted Rufus to improve or not.
  • The interactions between Rufus and Goal don't make any sense. Goal falls for Rufus after they've barely interacted.
  • The ending is bad and forced. It doesn't provide any closure.

The usual method for progressing in adventure games is to steal everything, bully/cajole people into doing what you want and generally break stuff. One of the great things about Deponia is all of this is entirely in character for the protagonist. The series is hilarious, and has much more character development than you'd expect considering the focus on humour and oddity. I suppose having three games to develop Rufus's character helps, but it was great to see a protagonist evolve over a series.

Would recommend.

I enjoyed this game an immense amount. I'm still yet to finish it, but I've been enjoying it so much that I have played it for hours at a time. You finish a chapter, you suddenly get the urge to start the next chapter to find out what happens next!
The story is compelling and keeps you interested all the way through.
Sometimes it can be a real pain to work out what needs to be done, and sometimes the solutions are a little tedious, but that's pretty standard for any point-and-click game I find. Google did come in handy at times!
The one major standout point about this game however is the artwork. It's such a wonderfully drawn game, top marks to the artists!
Overall it's a great game to waste many an hour on, and it keeps you coming back for more :)

Charming characters and Comedic situations make this game great. It's a mostly-linear point-and-click adventure (Think Monkey Island series) that manages to be both funny and a bit touching at the same time. Unfortunately, what you need to do to advance is incredibly cryptic at times, like finding baby Bozo as a tiny speck way off on the horizon, but this is usually made reasonable by a wonderfully done "objective checklist" that is written out and scribbled on as though the protagonist is updating it with pen and paper. Overall, if you're at all a fan of the genre, I'd strongly recommend the Deponia series.

Holy cow!!!!! This flipping game is what I have been looking for well forever. I had sooooo much fun playing through this hilariously well made game. There's twists, turns, ups, downs, and some inside-outs thrown into the mix. I had a blast playing through this and experiencing such a well made game. There honestly is no way I could possibly recommend this game any more than I currently am. If you are a fan of great story lines, lots of hours of playability, hidden easter eggs, outstanding comedy, and just down right fun, buy this game for sure!

Deponia is an absurd, confusing, and rude point and click adventure. And this is exactly why I fell in love it with it. Deponia is a point & click with a humerous style and brain-twisting puzzles. This game forces you to think outside the box and let every irrational bone in your body take control. Overall Deponia is an amazing game with a memorable set of characters on a hilarious journey. (9.5/10)

What I feel is essentially a love letter to the Point-and-Click adventures many of us grew up on, this game carries the same endearing cartoonish art, situational humor, and click-on-everything-you-see-until-something-happens gameplay that we've missed since we were kids. This game brought back the kind of magic and wonder and bemusement I haven't felt in ages, with a more mature dialogue that's more palatable for me as an adult.

Seriously, I usually fill my reviews with jokes and sarcasm, but this I'm serious about. This game is worth a try, I recommend it to everyone, period, no matter what kind of games you're into.

This is a game about Rufus. And how awesome Rufus is. And his heroism. And how he always gets the girl. And how Rufus DOESN'T spend most of the game running around clicking on things, strapping himself to giant sawblades, getting his teeth knocked out, annoying the hell out of his sadistic ex-girlfriend, accidentally giving away his family heirlooms, polluting the water supply, practicing necromancy on fish, sawing Goal's personality into three parts for a lollipop, making weird faces, and other things that a hero clearly would never do.

Because Rufus is a true hero. This is a game about heroism. He didn't do ANYTHING mentioned above, and this certainly isn't an entire game trilogy about him doing those things.

3 amazing adventure games packaged into one long and fantastic journey.
If that's not enough then you also get the soundtrack, dev commentary and all sort of bonuses (the german soundtrack is amazing for me, I don't know a word in german but I really like it)

I'd say that if you like adventure games then you should buy this package.

A very weird game made by German developers. A point-n-click game with very offball humour. Main protagonist is a irreverent, self-centered, egotiscal scumbag. Most of the humour centers around the fact that Rufus is not very self-aware and the characters around him use every opportunity to make fun of him.

You get 3 games in this collection. For the money, you get a very decent amount of playtime. Some of the puzzles can be a bit tough at times. If that doesnt put you off, I would recommend that you check this series out.
