A decent HOG in my opinion.

I wouldn’t say that this is the most popular of genres when it comes to games and I would say they are usually rated pretty low because of that fact.
The genre within itself is pretty cheesy. The stories are usually quite silly, making excuses as to why you have to find a load of junk amongst more junk and generally being pretty lame. But I amongst a lot of other people actually enjoy these games. They are a guilty pleasure for me I must admit. I used to sit and play them with my mum, seeing as they really are the middle aged woman’s kind of game.

With all that said when it comes to playing and rating hidden object games, I usually tend to just rate them by how bearably cheesy they are. This one being pretty bearable.

The story is interesting and compared to what I have seen of other HOGs, is a bit more logical.
I guess?
Most HOGs, you’re a detective or investigator of some sort looking for clues to solve a case, at least that’s a popular one, but even then in those cases you are just collecting random bits of crap. You know, a tooth brush, some hamster hair, a spade and a packet of hobnobs, calling them “clues” and wah-la! We’ve found the killer!
No, no. In Mirror Mysteries you’re searching for pieces of a mirror, scattered through different worlds and realms. There is of course the obligatory point and click “I’m not going to just straight up give you what you are looking for, first YOU need to do something for ME” so you end up solving a lot of other people’s problems to. But still, as far as HOGs go… at least it makes more sense. Which was nice!

The whole find/place mechanic in this game is something I liked also. You can jump in and out of scenes easily and in some cases need to jump back and forth to proceed. It’s not at all tedious, it’s actually a bit of fresh air. HOGs usually have a set screen, you solve that screen entirely before moving on. This at least gives you a bit of freedom to do more than one thing at once. Or at least, it feels that way. It’s nice this genre of game not being so linear for once! I like it!

Like many HOGs the resolution for this game is a bit low. It’s never been an issue for me, the genre itself just looks old and dated so low res has never bothered me. But I have noticed in reviews that a lot of other people take this very seriously! So just to warn ya!

Apart from that and the game being fairly short (which I sometimes, especially with HOGs, I actually like) all in all I would say this is a decent game. If you are a fan of the genre I would say definitely give this a try. Although I haven’t played the second one yet. Should be interesting!

TL;DR: As far as HOGs go, decent story, nice mechanics, bit short (I completed it in an hour), low res but generally a good game. Go for it.

This game should be reclassified as a 'tidying up simulator'. The narrative feels as if written by an 8 year old... Lady with two children park outside abandoned house (I don't know why, they just like the look of it). Lady wakes up to find kids have disappeared into house. Turns out a talking mirror has somehow trapped them in his 'mirror world'.

To save your idiot children, you have to visit several different 'mirror worlds' (I don't know the exact terminology) and tidy up random junk. Each room is a still image - most items you can find without even knowing what it is you're looking for because they stand out like a sore testicle. Others are more difficult just because they're in a dark corner on the very edge of the screen. So you'll want to straighten back up to avoid unfavorable glare during your physical slump into boredom.

The 'puzzles' are equally as basic. You just need to click everything the game tells you. Even if you can't find them, the Hint button will glow every now and then, pointing out the exact location of an unfound item. Expect weak dialogue, for example: "I should've been a plumber, these pipes are broken" (even though she fixes several pipes and alike throughout the prior chapters). Most of the 'interactive' parts will be: find a locked box in area 1, you have no key. Go to area 2 - sure enough you will find the key - treat yourself to the previous area's elusive items.

You fix the broken mirror (did I mention the your children broke the mirror?... Mirror's crime was justified) and then (SPOILERS)... In the end, it was all a dream... Honest truth. Shocking.

I've played a few dire creations by this point, but I did complete this one, though I'm not sure why.

Short, simplistic, not always intuitive, and has no story as such. Although if you get it at a bargain price, it's still a decent amusement.

I will recommend this only with the same caveat that I put on a lot of HO games, which is "get it on sale" and I'm even more emphatic with this one. This game is VERY VERY SHORT and as such, not worth the full price.

That said, the hidden object puzzles are set up in a more unique way than some and I found it pretty engaging. The scenes weren't horrifyingly difficult nor were they very simple. I prefer when these games make me work for it a little bit.

There were some minor annoyances. Plot was flimsy at best, characters were not even remotely fleshed out or interesting, and for some reason all of the cut scene dialog is in capital letters; generally I don't expect really excellent plot or character development from straight HO games, though, so it doesn't faze me overly much. You might have other ideas.

So anyway, this game barely squeaks by with a recommendation from me, and as I already said, get it on sale. I clocked in at a measly 100 minutes and if I hadn't gotten this for a pretty decent discount, I'd be pretty annoyed. But if you DO find a good sale, it's worth a buck or two.
