Vad utvecklarna har att säga:

Varför Early Access?

“Jumpdrive is a game with a massive scope, we want the chance to develop the game organically, so that the players can be a part of shaping the direction it takes and understanding the process of getting there. With Early Access we’re able to get all of that feedback and help while we work.”

Ungefär hur länge kommer det här spelet att vara i Early Access?

“Our planned release date is the end of 2015.”

Hur är det tänkt att den fullständiga versionen ska skilja sig från versionen i Early Access?

“We’re planning to continue to improve the graphical capabilities of the engine, as well as implementing a massive expansion of the AI system to create a more realistic and lifelike gameworld. We’ll also be adding much more late game content such as specialised player professions.”

Hur är det nuvarande läget i versionen med Early Access?

“Most of the gameplay fundamentals are in place, as is the structure of the universe itself. Players are already able to get out and start exploring the universe and building their fortune. On the incomplete side the AI is still rudimentary and there are plenty of bugs still present.”

Kommer spelet att prissättas annorlunda under och efter Early Access?

“The price of the game will be raised incrementally with each major update leading up to the full release.”

Hur planerar ni att involvera gemenskapen i er utvecklingsprocess?

“We have an active community on our Steam forum and Reddit and we try to focus our development priorities on the features that our players are most interested in. The more feedback we can get from players the better the final game we’re able to release will be.”

Exciting news about Jumpdrive!

Dear Space Explorers,

We are aware that we neglected you in the last couple of months and for this we apologize from the bottom of our hearts; we really did a terrible job at communicating with all of you. Please believe it was because we have put maximum effort into the development of Jumpdrive. Luckily, now we are back to tell you that we do remember about you and we are going to make up for the silence with regular updates! We have expanded our company which enables core team members to completely focus on the development of the game. Other team members will be solely responsible for staying in touch with our community - you absolutely deserve it! We also know that you have questions and from now on we are going to answer all of them, as we should always have.

We are happy to confirm that Jumpdrive is still in development and it is becoming bigger and better than ever. Over the last several months we have been rewriting the whole codebase which was extremely time-consuming and did not leave us time for actual updates. Nevertheless, it was worth it as now improving the game and implementing new features will be easier than ever!

What new features can you expect in Jumpdrive in the near future? Take a look:

Alpha 12 (ETA: this month):

- Completely overhauled physics system which should improve spaceflight reliability and feel and remove multiple problems that existed within the older system.
- Improvements to HUD, including new ship contact list readout.
- Massive art overhaul, new ships and stations as well as remodels and re-textures of many current ships and stations.

Alpha 13 (ETA: June):

- New physics system activated for AI ships as well as the player ship.
- New physics system activated for autopilot, fixing all current bugs in the autopilot system and making it significantly more reliable.
- New AI system with ships much more reliable and less buggy. Base AI system includes general AI ships, but expansibility will allow the development of more interesting role specialized AI in the future (traders, navy, miners, pirates, etc).

We are going to stay in close touch with every single one of you from this point on and do our best to give you all new features as soon as possible. Please be excited – there is much more coming later on!

Join our newsletter at our website so that you can stay up to date with regular e-mails! Also, do not hesitate to contact us at info@meteoricgames.com, we will gladly answer all your questions and carefully listen to your feedback.

Jumpdrive is a sandbox space sim set in an alternative future heavily inspired by classic 80s sci-fi. Fight, trade and explore in a massive procedurally generated galaxy of millions of planets and stars. Amass money and power, upgrade or purchase new ships, and one day create your own small fleet with a base to call home.

Features

A Vast Universe - An enormous universe built to a realistic scale; a galaxy thousands of light years across filled with millions of planets and stars.

Completely Seamless - Transition through hyperjumps between stars, transit across star systems and land on planets, all with no loading screens to get in your way.

A Fully Realised Starfaring Civilization - Across inhabited space freighters run the trade lanes, stations orbit lonely planets, and individual star captains wander the space between.

Deep Backstory - In an alternative future in which the Cold War never ended, the player takes on the role of an independent ship captain trying to make their mark in an unforgiving galaxy riven with intrigue and conflict. From dropping special forces into hot zones to kidnapping weapons scientists, assassinating dissidents to gun running, take a side in the conflict between power blocs or make a fortune by playing both sides.

Individual Player Focus - An emphasis on creating a strong single player focused experience and the sort of universe that players can lose themselves in.

Engaging Gameplay - An intuitive and visceral gameplay experience centered around giving players the freedom to achieve their objectives via whatever means they decide.

An awesome game concept overall, but seems to be abandoned. I've played it for almost eight hours at the time I'm writing this and I have not been able to figure out how to jump (go to other star systems), or even make good money for upgrades or new vessels as there are almost no missions in the game that pay more than a few bucks. I wanna recommend this game; its quite interesting, but I simply can't.

Developer is back to excuses for no updates, and hasn't been seen on Steam since Feb 13th - long after yet another promised update. Their official site and forums have been mostly offline and spam-infested since last summer as well.

Paragon / Jumpdrive development is obviously dead at this point, nobody should be buying it.

IMPORTANT!
this game is way from done, but it does have a lot to offer and while its in an insanely unfinished state, it is slowly being worked on. slowly but surely. despite all the negative press it has persevered and i admire that. if youre a fan of space sims, especially ones that are rather simple but yet complex at the same time this game is for you. like i said though it is insanely unfinished but it is still in progress by like 2 people and i would recommend picking it up just to support the dev so it can be completed.
REVIEW: this game is unfinished and i feel giving it a proper review is unfair, the price tag vs what you get even in its unfinished state isnt too bad, i have seen a lot worse. what it does it does well and what it doesnt do is being worked on. it will take time before this is a game to rival that of elite, but with time it will end up like a cheaper, but more artistic elite clone. if youre looking for another game like elite but maybe dont have the serious cash for it, then this is for you.

Game not playable. After setting language to German it never starts again and always crashes at the beginning. There is no way to make it work with default settings, Even deleting of local files and reinstall doesnt work. This is not Early Access - this is Zero Access. Thats bad that in Steam there is no possibility to test early access games before buying. Lost Money and Lost Time.

I've been in on this game since one of the early alphas. This was before it was on steam, and really before the space sim genre had begun to come back into fashion. Back then, this was one of the only hopes for an open world space trading simulator. It was buggy, unoptimised, unpleasant to play and to look at, but it was still one of the best things on offer. Today, it has too many competitors which are getting it right for these problems to be overlooked.
Unfortunately, I don't think this game can survive the rebirth of the space sim genre.

Best and most realistic space sim available.

You can travel across a vast universe where also the solar system is included.

If you don`t use teleports or speedlight will take you years and years to cover just the distance between earth and mars at the cruise speed of 500m/s. Try that to go to ariel moon from pluto (highly detailed by the way) will take maybe weeks, same from earth to the moom. Or travel to Titan to see the dense atmosphere... All mixed with a wicked music and 80`s atmosphere.

Priceless

I really wanted to love this game. The concept is great, The plan seemed great, graphics seemed right on par with the theme. The devs, well they just disapeared. The pop in very rarely to claim it is still in production, but latest updates are almost a year old now. The game is not done, many many bugs still.

I do hope the game gets in full production again. I will change my not recommended to a positive in a heart beat, But, I fear this will never happen.

Jumpdrive / Paragon has had an update to Alpha 11.

Is it worth getting? I would say so, yes, based on this update and the way the game seems to be heading now. This update isn't a revolution but it's a good step in the right direction for this game, the guys developing this have made quite a lot of progress in the space of a month. New ships, new cockpits, new space graphical effects with nebulas, a better autopilot, a better GUI for the autopilot, and just generally better polish and even slightly better frame rate.

This game is making sure and steady progress but you have to remember that this game is ALPHA which means a lot of the features that you want to see here are not finished yet.

What you have got is a Space simulation where you can pretty much go and do whatever you want, it is a sandbox, it is just that not all of the gameplay content and sandbox flavours are in their yet as the developers are adding to the games content as it develops.

What you do get is a MASSIVELY improved and MASSIVELY polished up version of Pioneer with lots of things which Pioneer will never have. This game features a complete graphical overhaul, a complete audio overhaul and also a complete ship and assets overhaul. The game feels polished, it has a more simplistic but refined UI and it is making progress in the right ways which makes development for this game actually feel exciting now.

Is the game worth £10? I would agree. Yes. If you liked Frontier you pretty much have the same game here as Frontier although the combat as of yet is not as developed as say other areas like trading and such. Though the devs have said they are going to be working on the combat area of the game.

Jumpdrive is a work in progress but it is developing, and if the updates develop at the rate which this one has, and the way in which Adel and co are doing then basically this game is going to develop pretty quickly.

Looking forward to Alpha 12.

I love this game's aesthetic themed like an 80's sci-fi movie with retro-futuristic synth music, but unfortunalty this game has become unplayable. It also seems development has crashed into a wall at 100 MPH because there hans't been any updates for a decent amount of time without a word. At anytime before it stopped working I would've recommended this game, but unfortunately I can't.

Bit of a mixed bag, really.

The atmosphere and feel of the game are great. If you felt that Pioneer was a bit too realistic, this is the game for you. Unfortunately, the game is plagued with bugs and updates have been infrequent (though I may be proven wrong in the near future) I have personally been enjoying it, though.

This is a fork of the open source freeware game Pioneer, which is in itself a remake of Elite II. Try Pioneer for free and then of you enjoy it, buy this, as it looks and sounds a lot better.

The graphics have been massively improved as has the soundtrack. The game goes for a retro 80's feel (right down to the Cold War In Space scenario) and the optional filters that make it look like a 80's sci fi film or its being played on a cathode monitor!

The universe and the individual planets look wonderful and there is a plethora of stuff to do. As with the original elite, the intial progress in the game is extremely slow, but once you gain traction there is a fantastic and absorbing range of activities, you can be a pirate, an interstellar taxi driver, a trader or fight for one of the factions. There's no overarching plot as such, but your imagination can build your own as you play.

For the price, this represents better value for money than E:D by a long chalk (and you can land on fantastically rendered planets NOW).

The only problem is that it is still a little bit buggy. I cannot load a saved game from the start page, I have to begin a new game, play for 10-15 minutes and then load my older saved game which is a bit of a pain. There's the occasional CTD to, and the graphics can lag a bit when you don't expect them to (and likewise be extramely smooth when there's a lot going on)

The game is soon to be updated, hopefully to iron out the glitches and push it closer to beta. If you like space trading games, this is definitely one of the better ones that I have tried.

It's a good game, the game is on a good route to improve and evolve. The graphics are nice and the ships looks nice and handles diffrenetly from eachother. there are some missions to play most of them is about going to A to B to deliver somehing in a timeframe. The game runs a bit slow after some update, i have a hard time keeping 60 fps constant and i have a decent computer.

The ships are easy to controll without a controller, it may be even simpler with one. (i wouldnt know if it is since i dont own a controller) but i have no hard time using a mouse and keyboard for this game.
I don't see the weapons useful yet since i've not ran into any hostile ships yet and the ones i shot just stood there and took it, so that could use a bit of work, but the game's in early acess so i'll let that pass. all in all a good game worth the money if you like these kinds of games and would like to support the developers who tries their best to improve the game.

One of the first reviews for the game, now that the dev has got the missing executable error sorted out!
Where to start, where to start...
(scroll down for tl;dr)

The moment I started this, there I was, docked in the middle of a city, with a text tutorial and no idea at all how to do anything. My half hour spent on the game has been spent working out game mechanics, flying, buying, missions and all of that.

The graphics are real pretty for an indie game by a small dev team. Flying up into the atmosphere and seeing all of nothing around you, seeing planets, suns, space stations and cities from a distance. Ive only seen Earth and the moon from the Sol solar system, and seen countless random other planets and stations in other random systems, but so far I am impressed with the depth, size and look of the game.

Flying is a little weird - you use the mouse to do most movement, but you also need to use the A and D buttons for the roll function. Switching out of the mouse movement mode to go to autopilot, manuever and transit modes.
It may take a little while to get used to still.
Edit: So it would appear that there is the option to change your key bindings and mouse usage, also being able to us the directional keys to control the ship. Apparently there is partial controller support at this stage too, though I am yet to try it.

So far I have worked out how to get off the planet, learnt how to get around to others, learnt how to dock at cities and space stations, learnt all the interfaces.. but getting a mission that requires me to leave the starting area? As of What this needs is a more comprehensive tutorial, I think, but as its only build 7 of Alpha, and super early, all in good time :)
Edit: Finally worked out how to get out of the starting system to explore the universe in its glory. Hydrogen and jump drives. Who knew.

Remember, its only in alpha, and really early alpha at that. Its playable, but the learning curve at this stage is steep. There's a few killer bugs as well (my autopilot into a space station killed me for example) but nothing too game breaking.
I have high hopes for this, and it already looks really promising.
Definitely worth the money I paid to support it - but don't expect a totally finished game because you'll be disappointed.
I will update this once I learn more features and the game is updated :)
The devs are pretty cool too, and are really active on the paragon forums and are really interested in what the community has to say. They are really intent on making this game the best it can be!

tl;dr
- Im loving this game.
- Its pretty
- No comprehensive tutorial as of yet
- Control scheme may be a bit difficult to handle at first
- Steep learning curve
- Bugs. Its in alpha. Expect bugs.
- Pretty sweet devs
- Its pretty.

This is the first early access game i fully support and actually want to help find bugs to help make it a better experience once finished!

On a less serious note, flew about 5km into a gas giant and exploded. 10/10 for realism.

Note: I have now made a comprehensive early game tutorial in the guides section explaining certain mechanics for new players. Lots of pictures and numbers. Hope it helps.

There is one thing we have to get out of the way: Paragon is a mod/fork of the open source space sim Pioneer, a modern reworking of the great space sim Elite by David Braben that we were all raving about since 1984. As it stands this is as close as you are going to get right now to having Elite itself on steam, which is no bad thing ......
Well worth the purchase price for that little convenience alone.

So the 80s style (done perfectly) comes as no surprise, and the artwork (cockpits etc) are good quality.
Music is top notch as well, hinting at radiophonic and kraftwerk, it goes to make a perfect background to this space sim. Runs like a dream and you can max the graphics on a modest PC.
It really does have the spirit and feel of Elite.

So my recommendation is a thumbs up with crossed fingers, trusting that the development of Paragon will continue along its own lines and not fall down like so many other early access titles have been doing on steam over the last few months.

Paragon is great, it has different kinds of ships with different purposes, everything is realtime (even while using hyperdrive) so no loading times, and going from space to a planet without a cutscene is true in this game, and because of that the game universe is huge! you get missions, fight, trade, buy new chips and crews and it's good.

Unfortunately, this game has become all but unplayable over the past months. Issues ranging from consistent long load times (or the more likely failures requiring hard resets) at start up to freezes at the end of nearly every jump and worse. I gave it a shot because of the cheap price and concept, but as of 12/17/2014 it may as well be a pet rock. I wish the dev team good luck and hope one day to be given a reason to revise this review, but I cannot in good faith recommend this work in progress and suggest others avoid purchasing this alpha title until extensive work has been done to improve the overall game environment.

All I can give right now are very early impressions, but so far Paragon seems like a very competent Elite clone. The game has a great look, and even with some clearly WIP UI screens, it presents information neatly and accessibly. Plus, the music is really quite nice. (Though I've silenced it to play Nujaubes, which also happens to complement the game very well...)

So far, most complaints are simply symptomatic of the game's alpha status. Early-game balance is very lacking, with early delivery missions (the only ones you'll be able to take) paying anywhere between $400-700, while ships bigger than the miniscule starting ship costing upwards of $50000. This will presumably be changed in future revisions, but in the mean time, all ship info is stored in convenient little .lua files within the game's folders, so manually changing ship prices is a good way to circumvent the early grind.

Also, another minor complaint: currently there just aren't enough keyboard shortcuts. Clicking through the (again, very attractive and thoughtfully designed) menus would be a more painless process if there were shortcut keys to flip between your ship's views, comms, maps, etc. I assume this is on the to-do list somewhere, because it's such a simple thing.

Oh, and the autopilot can be downright homicidal. This seems to be true of most space games, but the moral of the story is save frequently and try to keep an eye out for passing freighters when you're docking or taking off from a station.

Bottom line, though, Paragon is a compelling and promising space sim. It definitely leans more towards approachability and simplicity than the impregnable X series, or the finnicky Evochron Mercenary (both of which are also good), though it seems that Paragon is aiming towards a fair amount of depth eventually. In the mean time, it's an attractive little Elite-clone and easily worth the $15.

The only thing I notice is how bad the autopilot is at landing. I've lost five ships today to the autopilot running me into orbitals while trying to get to the parking spot. So, just stick to non-orbital missions until the bugs are worked out. :D

Seems to be abandoned.
No content update for months.
Devs only interact with community to tell us that they're going to start work again soon.
Devs website is no longer up.
I would strongly recommend you don't buy.

Will update this when the game gets more content.

It was hard to chose between "Yes" or "No" for this game. I would prefer a "perhaps" button for it.

It's an Elite-like game (a Frontier Elite remake to be more accurate) and it is based on the free and open source game "Pioneer". Some people say this game is Pioneer sold for 14.99 $ ; they are completly wrong. This game isn't Pioneer anymore : the gameplay is more arcade oriented than Pioneer (flight mechanisms are easier, simplified). At first this simplicity seems to be a good thing, but itsn't. The devs seem to miss a very important aspect : objective. If you have a simulation oriented game, learn how to do stuff, how to flight, how to land etc. is already a good challenge. But in the other hand, arcade oriented games need more objective-centric gameplay. Because for now, Paragon is just autopilot someone or something from a point x to a point y. You can do manuel flight, but it's too simple (with w you go faster, with "s" you slow down, with the mouse your turn, and that's about all the complexity of the flight mechanism - oh, you can also roll with the "a" and "d" button). So the question here isn't "how can I flight this ship" - like in Pioneer - but "why should I manuel control this ship?". You can just hit the autopilot and relax - even if it isn't working really well for now (I'm having a lot of crashes with it), unless you're in a orbital station, autopilot can manage almost every flight course). On Pioneer you can control all the lateral, top and bottom thrusters, and the ship doesn't stop when you hit the reverse botton, it just stop accelerating, you have to invert ships direction to be able to stop, and it can take a while if you're too fast. That's a challenge.

So why I give this game a "yes"? Because it's prettier than Pioneer (I like this 60ties atmosphere with the blue buildings and very sharp space ships), because it's on steam and easier to install and update than Pioneer, because combats are most intersting (the complex flight mechanism of Pioneer turns combats into a nightmare), and because I believe it's easier to finish a game with a budget (I'm still waiting, after years of development, for the final release of some open-source games like Unknown Horizons, Glest, UFO Alien Invasion, or FreeOrien and many others). I love open-source, but a game is like a book or a movie, you have to finish it some day or it's useless...

I won't even comment the potential this game has, it can be really incredible, but with the monstruous Star Citizen or Elite Dangerous coming out soon, what'll be the place of Paragon, Pioneer, Oolite and many other open-source space-sim games?

Paragon is great.

This is a fork of the Pioneer Space Sim project, with considerable enhancements that make it worth charging for their efforts. If you're undecided about Paragon, dip your toe in Pioneer then come back and show these guys some money.

Essentially this is a remake of Frontier Development's "Frontier" games, the sequel to Elite. If you want to play Elite, check out Oolite, which is a free project as well.

If you're a player of Elite Dangerous, you might consider picking up Paragon as well, because while not multiplayer enabled (someday please?) this is a spiritually similar experience, albeit with much more "space trucking" and less of an action component. It's a pretty chill, relaxing game, and autopilot handles the majority of navigation tasks for you.

Nice atmosphere, slow paced action. Realy relaxing.

Except the fact that at the moment you ahve to learn to paly by yourself (no tutorial), you have to deal with bug (auto pilot crashes), and it can be boring (no much things to do).

Minimalistic, clean retro style and music of Paragon is fantastic. It's really immersive. Unfortunately at the current state the game is unplayable because of serious bugs (mainly suicidal autopilot, buggy docking bays and crashing). You must constantly save and even when you reach your destination, it's uncertain whether you'll dock (or take off). Buy it only if you want support developers. Paragon has potential, but give it some time yet.

I'll edit my review (and change recommendation eventualy) after updates which will fix these bugs.

Tips: If you want tutorial go to http://pioneerwiki.com/wiki/Manual (Paragon is an opensource fork of Pioneer). You have no guns at the beginning. For hyperjump you need Jump module and hydrogen and you must be at least 15km above the surface. Docking is possible only via autopilot (A) and you must first ask for permission. Trading is useless at the beginning, so earn cash trough delivery between sectors (~1000 $).

Well what could be better than wanting to explore an entire galaxy of stars and planets (and even moons)? Not much this observer thinks but then what if you add space stations and cities or spaceports into the mix? It's not illusion in paragon, it's all there and that concept alone is the basis of a game with plenty of depth. But of course i'm not just reviewing one side but all and so far the plot, as an avid sci-fi fan myself, is very interesting but still has much development. It is curently based in the not so distant future, around the 22nd century if i'm not mistaken, in a world where the Cold War doesnt end!

So far however, this plot has yet to be implemented fully and more technical issues have to be solved around how such a massive procedurally generated galaxy can be kept stable and in working order. I take my hat off to the devs who are attempting this task because from what i've seen already if these technical issues, minor and major, can be handled I honestly believe this could be one hell of an adventure.

With regards to the depth of the game, this is also something that is wanting but from the hammer and sickle on the space stations to maps of various aligned and non-aligned planets it seems the basis is there to create a universe of mixed politics and motives. Its one thing to play an rpg or free roaming games based in some distant land or with compulsory missions to weigh you down, but to have free reign to go about your business and make a name for yourself? That doesnt sound too bad and the potential is there.

As it is you can fly around, see the sights, get a feel for how the game would work and with enough imagination have some idea of the end product but it is a long way off and despite my enthusiasm it has to be said that getting involved with an early access program with massive scope is not for the faint of heart and so only those of patience (and a definite love for sci-fi) should apply now, otherwise give it time!

Im gunna keep this short and simple as i dont usually do this.
The game has huge potential, i saw a review and it wasnt recommended but i thought i would give it a chance anyway.
It still in the early stages and there is plenty to work on but overall the initial idea works.
The universe is apsolutley massive, although i havent quite used any combat abilities or got to grips with the full controls it is still fun.
Pros:
-Massive expanse to explore
-Beautiful backdrops
-Huge potential
-Fairly easy to play once you have got to grips with the controls
-Immersive
-Hours if not unlimited gameplay

Cons:
-some bugs need ironing
(clipping with ships when docking and departing from stations and cities, auto pilot sometimes needs resetting due to losing destination)
-No tutorial; would really appreciate in a following update
-hard to use starmap to control warping to other systems

When all said and done, the game is worth the money.
I hope the developer keeps going in a good direction with this one because like i said, the potential is there, its awsome!

From a basic point of view it's Grand Theft Auto in Space. You start small, build your way up doing various tasks to try and make some money, and next thing you know you're swimming in your mass amounts of hydrogen, killing people for thousands of dollars at a time, and building up your crew.

10/10

(On a more serious note this game was by far my favorite game on Desura and made my top favorites list on Steam. The game is beautiful, and even in it's alpha state has a lot to do! You can of course expect bugs and issues with the game as it is still in alpha of course, but I found it easy to look past those issues and just enjoy the game. Seriously, 10/10)
