Note: Half Life 2 is my favorite game of all time, so this isn't a review of that. This is a review of this mod.

Though the lighting and extra world props is nice, adding invisible walls and having certain crates and tables unbreakable is just annoying and in no way an improvement.
Half Life 2 has a very small amount of limitations, yet you're adding a bunch of them which is just stupid.

Do I recommend? Not really, to be honest. Such small changes that really aren't worth it.
Half Life 2 already looks great even today, so this seems almost pointless, really.

This is not a review of the original, this is simply my personal experience with the Update. I'm not saying that the original Half-Life 2 is bad, I'm just stating that this update isn't what I thought it would be.

Before you read any more of this, just note that I am a massive fan of the Half-Life series. I've enjoyed playing the original Half-Life games a lot. I imagine that a lot of you will probably rate this review down but nevertheless I'm still inclined to give my experience of this "update."

After getting back into Half-Life again. I found this on the store and decided to play through it just like i did with the original Half-Life 2 for the sense of nostalgia and seeing if it actually did improve on the original.

I was expecting to find a lot of nice textures and lighting effects redone and improved quite a bit. But I was dissapointed to find that a ton of bugs were now introduced and to some new lighting effects and textures not redone at all. Some places still look like they haven't improved. A lot of new architecture somehow feels uneccesary. Bugs that are not game breaking but however are just annoying in game that somehow were not found and fixed. I played the original Half-Life 2 for 82 hours and I didn't come across this many bugs and glitches. It's also incredibly difficult to notice any change in graphical details. I'll even say that some things that were done to the game feel downgraded.

But I will admit a lot of other lighting effects have been substantially improved by a lot. The community commentary is very interesting and adept at giving you clear speech of what the game was like in development. Although very hard to notice, some graphical detail was added to certain things. I would honestly not really reccomend this to anyone besides beginners or new players to the Half-Life series. But if you've played most of the original and others, I would reccomend this just for the great commentary.

HL2's graphics were dated. I nearly had to get the crappy cinematic mod. Then I found this.

Worthy of playing, it has been some years since playing the game and how time flies as we still await the return., it has added a few new features and lighting we have taken for granted. It worth a revisit the post destopia we knew and love.

It's Half Life 2 (which is already brilliant). Visuals have been improved quite a bit... Not much else to say really, I've only played it for half an hour so far, just got past the where you have to jump over the moving train. And you don't need the original HL2 installed...

Pretty good. Close to vanilla HL2 (None of the hyperbole of Cinematic Mod). If you are going to play though hl2, recomend it!

This is the first time I've played Half Life 2 since the release date in 2004. This is a fantasic game, proving that a pretty coat of paint isn't always required for a great gaming experience. At its core Half Life 2 has spot-on controls and a superb story of a dystopian future. A masterpiece in video game history!

It's nice to see that even after coming out 12 years ago that someone would still tweak a game to make it easier on the eyes.

Awesome Upgrade:
This upgrade fixes some bugs and improves the original's image quality, without changing the original's style.
Also included is commentary and the achievement list seems to be separate from the original's.
Worth checking out for newcomers and veterans.

Basically Half-Life 2 with very slight graphical changes. I did not feel different playing it at all, and it did not give me a reason to play this game for 6th time, but I guess it's nice to have if you just bought HL2.
