About This Game

2004's Half-Life 2 was a landmark for PC gaming and the First Person Shooter, setting the standard for immersion, animation, and physics-based play for years.

I honestly would not play Half Life 2 without this. It provides a better atmosphere to make the game more immersive. Even if you have played through Half Life 2, I would still recommend replaying it with this patch!

In recent years, I'd begun to consider Half-Life 2 was a bit overrated. But I think that was me just trying to be edgy, because I've just replayed it and realised that it might be one of my favourite games of all time. Like relighting an old flame, I hadn't played it properly in nine years and it has agaed amazingly. The animations, gameplay, physics are still exceptional for 2016. However, while it is lacking in other departments today, every facet of this game was amazing for the time. I was stunned by immersed I was in the experience again. A man who doesn't speak somehow becomes the de facto leader of an entire resistance, and it's ♥♥♥♥ing brlliant. It was only playing this game again that I'd realised that I've always loved Half-Life, even when I thought it was talked about too much. It's always been there, it's how I even got into PC gaming properly.

I realise I'm just rambling, but if you haven't played Half-Life 2 properly, you owe it to yourself to play this game.

A PC shooter for which developers did everything right to be a great FPS. If you look closer to details, you can see how much quality and polish this game has in every aspect to make it not just a great shooter, but an immersive experience. :D

Original Review:

Played for 1.5 hrs, but Steam measured .8 hrs. Saw zero difference from the original.


Revised review:

Reinstalled game. Played for 2.6 hrs total.

Played up to Water Hazard. Other than less vegetation fade in, saw no difference. Ladders didn't work well in some areas.

Played to Ravenholm - saw zero difference. Ladders didn't work well in many areas.

Played to Highway 17. Other than some minor fog differences and less vegetation fade in, saw no difference. Gave up once I got to the bridge.

Uninstalled game.

Went back to real life.

Half-life 2: Update is a really good mod that enhances the visuals of the game without removing the original Half-life spirit. It improves an already 10/10 experience by making the right changes in the right places. The original Half-life 2 graphics still hold pretty well today but this mod add more detail (making it a more fresh and alive world). With this update Hl2 is further polished, making it on par with the visuals of it's episodes. It can't compete with modern games, but it's a welcome improvement.

This, of course, without speaking in the welcome addition of Community commentary and the fixing of many bugs that only make this update even better.

Whether you're simply revisiting this world or diving in it for the first time... give this a chance and make it your standard Hl2 version.
