What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access is the perfect opportunity for us here at League of Geeks to get feedback on Armello and for you to be in the trenches of development as we deliver new content, systems and all THAT POLISH to the game.

Armello's time in Early Access will be focused on gameplay balance, additional content (i.e., cards, audio, etc), revision/polish of systems (i.e., user interface, player feedback, etc) and some additional features.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan for Armello to be in Early Access for approximately six months. This time will enable us to develop, implement and balance all remaining content and systems, as well as hone in on our desired end-goal for existing systems, whilst providing enough time to discuss and integrate feedback from you, our players and community.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Our complete plans for the full release (v1.0) of Armello will be announced in due course, however it's safe to say that there will be additional Heroes and cards, the release of our multiplayer progression and ranking systems, graphical improvements, MAJOR performance optimisation and revisions across a number of systems.

Nothing is sacred. We have a very clear idea of the type of experiences we're looking to create with Armello and as long as time and money permits, we'll do anything and everything we can to get there.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version of Armello includes single player, as well as cross-platform online multiplayer (matchmaking through Steam).

The dynamic quest system is perhaps our most ambitious undertaking within Armello and thus it is still in its very early days. We ask that you bear with us here. You can expect many improvements to hit questing in coming builds.

Also, Armello's mid-game and long-term strategy building is a little off at the moment, but we're very aware of this and are already working on improving it. The community has already been of immense assistance in helping us solve this one. :D

As for build schedules, we're planning major monthly updates for Armello during Early Access (with hotfixes where necessary and possible). Details for each update will be released in the weeks leading up to its release.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Final release price yet to be determined.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to be very active on the Steam and League of Geeks forums (www.leagueofgeeks.com/forums) during Armello's Early Access development.

Primarily, we'll be looking to the Early Access Community to assist us in balancing the game, discovering and reporting bugs, providing insight on the effectiveness of our communication and feedback systems, and assisting us in developing the best multiplayer environment we can possibly create.

Additionally, we are obviously VERY keen to hear your general feedback about the broader Armello experience. Hit us with all the feedback you can!”

Hotfix 0.3.2p2 [PC/Mac/Linux] (patch 2)

Hey all!

So it's been a little while since the last patch, but with your help we've managed to track down a few more issues and NMAs (No-More-Actions), and are releasing a new patch today! Here are the fixes:

  • Fixed NMAs related to selecting third and fourth tier Wolf Clan Quests if you were already Corrupted.
  • Some other Rumour selection issues have been resolved.
  • Selecting a Quest just as your turn starts, or just as you are attacked, will no longer cause an NMA.
  • Burning a card right as a Combat ends will no longer cause an NMA.
  • Setting up a replacement King's Guard should no longer cause intermittent NMAs as Day starts.
  • Using a card to kill a character just before their turn starts will no longer cause an NMA.
  • Using a card to move a character or spawn a Bane as a player's turn starts should no longer cause NMAs.
  • The screen should no longer stay blurry in certain cases after the Rumour selection screen is active.
  • You should no longer get invalid "Incompatible Version" popups when trying to Queue - if you do get an "Incompatible Version" popup, make sure you update to the latest version through Steam!
  • Leaving a Queue while in a Singleplayer game will no longer end the Singleplayer game.
  • Fixed a typo in the King's Declaration: "Healthcare".

Those are quite a few fixes! Hopefully your games - particularly multiplayer games - will be more stable from now on. Have fun Armellians, and remember to use the Bug Sender whenever you run into a bug!

Hotfix 0.3.2p1 [PC/Mac/Linux] (patch 1)

Hey Armellians! A hotfix is now live that resolves some critical issues with the latest release (0.3.2 - Engines of Fate). We've fixed quite a few issues, such as:

  • The Dice should no longer get stuck in Combat and cause NMAs (No-More-Actions).
  • Fixed an issue where Durations of effects (such as Mirror Image) were persisting after the Deck was reshuffled and that Card was drawn again.
  • Fixed the End Turn button not being click-able after playing Welcoming Party on yourself on your turn.
  • Fixed an issue where the "Start of the [x] Day" title would sometimes stick around for the whole round.
  • Fixed an issue where, if one of the combatants of a Combat died due to the Bane Blade, they would still attempt to finish the movement (this caused issues such as incorrect teleportation over the network).
  • You will now be notified in the Buff Bar that you are Poisoned after you fail a Plague Peril.
  • Your Steam username will now be displayed in singleplayer as your player name.
  • The Status Feed will no longer block progression to the Accolades screen if it is fully opened when the game ends.
  • The Signets and Amulets that you've unlocked will now display more correctly.
  • The Card "Incite Revolt" now correctly says that the Settlement will become Terrorised (as opposed to just "unclaimed").

And for our finale:
  • When you Banish yourself onto a Dungeon, which THEN spawns a Bane, which THEN pushes to onto a tile that your Quest happens to be on, the game will no longer get stuck in a state where the Quest resolution screen and Bane Combat are both overlaid onto each other.

Phew!

Thanks for playing everyone, and remember to use that Bug Sender whenever you run into a bug!

  • Easy to Play but Hard to Master - Armello is an intuitive game, easy to pick up and experience but with deep and emergent strategy. Full release will include a tutorial mode.
  • Fast & Thoughtful - Adventuring in Armello is fast-paced fun but filled with deadly tactical and politically complex decisions requiring careful forethought and planning.

  • Animated Cards - Armello will feature over a 120+ beautifully animated in-game Cards, from artists all over the world.

About This Game

Armello is a grand swashbuckling adventure that combines three styles of play; The deep tactics of card games with the rich strategy of table top board games, combined with a character role-playing system.

As a hero from one of the clans of Armello, you'll quest, scheme, hire agents, explore, vanquish monsters, cast spells and face off against other players, with one ultimate end goal in mind — storming the palace and becoming King or Queen of Armello. The Kingdom of Armello is as dangerous as it is beautiful, perils, banes and bandits hide around every corner and a spreading corruption known as the rot is leaving no creature untouched.

Armello is League of Geeks’ attempt to revolutionise digital board and card games, whilst providing players a rich world within which they can craft their own stories of epic adventure. The aim was to create a rich game full of backstabbing, close shaves, shattered alliances, ruses and empty promises - a perfect game to play with your friends.

Great 2D artwork but a disappointing board game.

Armello has some similarities to Talisman, in that a way to win is in the middle of the board, but you need improve your character's stats and gather useful equipment before you have any chance at it.

However, killing or curing the king hardly ever happens as you have to be incredibly lucky for either to be feasible, so pretty much every time, the game will run out of turns and the player who happens to have the highest prestige wins.

Meaningful decisions don't really come up, each player will tend to do their own thing, wandering around hoping to randomly gain prestige and be the winner when the game ends.

It restricts itself to the limitations of physical board games a bit too much. Seeing the little 3D dice roll is a novelty at first but quickly becomes boring. Most of your time is spent waiting for the other players to take their turns, moreso even than most other board games thanks to not being able to do anything when it's not your turn, and all of the neutral units taking their turns.

There are many other board games, both physical and digital, that are better and cheaper than this one.

However the 2D artwork is gorgeous and the ingame graphics and animations are nice.

It's hard to describe a game like Armello.

At it's core it's a board game, but it's so much more than that. It's also a turn based strategy game, it's a card game, and it even has some RPG elements. More importantly, all these elements work well together.

There's currently 4 characters to choose from (in Early access, there will be more at full release), each of which belongs to their own clan, and each character has their own stats, abilities and starting items. They are all different enough that each game feels fresh.

When you first play Armello it might seem a bit complicated, but once you've played a match or two, you will know exactly what you're doing.

Even though the game is currently in Early Access it's fully playable.

(This was written while the game was still in Early Access)

Armello is a board-game RPG type of game with beautiful graphics, awesome mechanics and proper diversity: this is a game that really feels completely different every time you play it. Though some cards may appear more frequently, I've really had to adapt a different strategy every game I've played.

This is also because of one of the best parts of Armello: the victory conditions. There are 4 different ways to beat the game, and the four conditions are able to be reached by anyone in the game, provided they plan for them. This helps keep the game interesting for everyone: it's hard to have a completely hopeless game, you can always try to fulfill one of the different conditions, regardless of the other player's status.

The game takes a little to learn and understand, and (at the moment) some tooltips aren't always easily readable, but it isn't a particularly hard game to learn.

There is ONE big problem with the game at the moment: lack of local multiplayer. This is a boardgame kind of game and the lack of local multiplayer is a big oversight. The developers have said they may add it in the future, but at the current moment it is sorely lacking it. Keep this in mind, because this lacking feature and the somewhat high price tag compared to other board-games, makes it hard to fully recommend.

If you consider buying it, watch some gameplay videos first. Then, think about how you would want to play the game more: Do I like playing these games online with strangers? Can I wait for a local co-op that may not come? Do I have friends that play online and are willing to buy their own copy for $25?

Armello is an amazing game and should be given a try, but at the moment the multiplayer options have a few bothersome conditions.

Armello is very interesting board game and i look forward to see what it will bring once it is done.

I would without a doubt recommend Armello.
Currently based on my opinion -> 01-04-2015

Pros:

- Early access (room for improvement)
- Compelling gameplay
- Good quality in varity -> cards & clans and the fact that you can win in 4 different ways even though they are all somewhat similar.

- Interesting graphics that fit perfectly
- Clearly aimed towards the multiplayer aspect
- Can be overwhelming but takes 1 game to get the hang of the majority
- Perks

Cons:

- Early access (So many early access games in these days that it is hard to say what exactly that means)
- Poor quantity in varity -> few cards & 4 clans
- Weak single player aspect -> I think a story could be thrown in here to make it more interesting for each clan
- Difficult to find a multiplayer game on your own -> Need friends ready to play
- Super overwhelming if you do not play a singleplayer game before trying it with friends.

Again this is based on my experience and i would recommend reflecting over them to decide if this would be something you would be interested in. All i can say is i have had a great time with it and will definitely play some more of it and chances are i forgot to mention something but i think i got a good wrap around the majority of it :) HF hope this helps !

As an avid collector of regular table top board games Armello immediatly caught my attention. A single game can last 20-60 minutes (depending on the luck of cards/dice) but at any moment you may have to rethink your strategy depending on what someone else is doing (or if something is done to you). Since I have played enough games to unlock all of the characters selectable abilities I can say it is fairly balanced right now. The only improvement I am waiting on is the implementing of new cards there is about 20-30 cards I haven't seen out of the 40+ games I have played.

I recommend you support this game if you are an avid player of board games and if you see any bugs please report them to make it even better.

Es un juego adictivo, Pense que no me gustaria porque no soy fan de este tipo de juegos.

Pero realmente lo amo este juego, El lobo esta algo roto pero imagino que lo balancearan en un futuro.
Definitivamente valio la pena comprarlo.

It's an addictive game , I thought I would not like because I'm not a fan of these games .

But I really love this game , the wolf is something broken but I imagine it will balance in the future.
Definitely was worth buying.

A board game turned into an animated computer game. Easy to learn. Very good animation and beautiful artwork. The AI is not yet that strong (developers are still working with it) but even at this early stage it appears almost like a completed product. It shows the team has dedicated the time to make this more than a game, but also a work of art.

(Here is a video you can watch for the ones who see this and think TLDR {LINK REMOVED}http://goo.gl/jWz3j8)

This game is one of the best games i've come across in a long time (If you like things in the vien of D&D meets Fire Emblem with furries)

Artisticaly it's the most beautiful game i've seen in the last 2 years. Gameplay wise? As i said above if you like the sound of that then you are in for one hell of a fun time.

But let me go into a bit more detail. Everything (for the most part) in Armello is decided by Dice and Cards. Cards -Spells-Equipment-Trickey-followers- will allow you to either lay traps and challenges for your foes (trickery cards) Buff your rolls in combat and trickeries (Equipment and Followers) Or just cause a ruckus and make people not have a very good day (Spells).

If anything listed above interests you, then this just might be the game for you.

Armello is the best virtual board game I have played to date. It does a great job of feeling like a board game while taking advantage of a lot of things that are only possible in virtual space (ie hidden things that only certain players can see). There are several very different play styles for different win conditions and with each patch, gameplay gets more and more dynamic. This is one of the few games that has lived up to its initial hype (and it's not even done yet as I write this!). A must-have game for any board-game enthusiast and an excellent game regardless.

While boardgames are my thing, I do not think this particular one is worth the investment. After playing a couple of games I cannot imagine even the complete game being worth the 23EUR (or whatever currency you use).

The game itself is nice and well though-out, but gets old rather easily. The 4 victory conditions do not really make a difference, you will just go for whichever one is best suited to you after a few turns. The heros do not play differently enough. In the end you battle the same way, you just use a different stat to your advantage, While there is some shuffling on the map, some new ones would be nice as well.

The nice artwork is a pro though.

Overall, I would not have regretted skipping this game.
