What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“ROCKETSROCKETSROCKETS is a game meant to be played between friends, in a variety of different playstyles, over a range of experience. Even from the most basic prototypes, our development team simply isn't big enough to cover all of those bases!

Early Access allows us to get the testing, feedback, and direction that we wouldn't be able to otherwise obtain.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“ROCKETSROCKETSROCKETS will remain in Early Access until we believe it is ready for prime-time. We are hoping that is mid-2015.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“When ROCKETSROCKETSROCKETS first launched on Steam, it was a a beautiful game that got everyone who played it excited; we were happy with it, and considered leaving it just as it was, but we thought that we could continue working on the game in Early Access and make the experience accessible to many more people.

The final product we envision is a much larger product, one with tutorials, new game modes, and different experiences like Zen Mode or even, perhaps, online multiplayer. We aren't sure how many of those will turn out to be fun or what it will look like, but we guarantee we'll make the best game we possibly can.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“As things currently stand, you can play all the core mechanics of ROCKETSROCKETSROCKETS. Maybe we are missing some power ups, we don't have a whole lot of maps, and structural things (like leaderboards, campaigns, and championship competitions) aren't present... But the ROCKETS still shoot ROCKETS at other ROCKETS the same way they will in the final game.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game is priced at a lower tier during development, and as we add features we'll begin raising the price to our target launch of around $15 to $20.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Our team of rocket scientists hangs out on the Steam forums and goes to all the big North American gaming-gatherings to harvest feedback and make sure the game is heading in the direction that our fans want. We strive to constantly improve the game and make things as great as you can imagine it to be.”

Reviews

“People sat down and played that movement demo for hours on end, and it was just the beginning. The game is fast, frenzied, and gorgeous even in these early stages. With a bit more polish, it could become as addictive as Towerfall and Nidhogg.”

“I’m ga-ga for rockets.”

“The agility of these rockets belongs in the Luftrausers universe, where survival is only possible if you can stall your plane's engines and turn on a dime in mid-flight. Get to grips with that and you can dance.”

About This Game

ROCKETSROCKETSROCKETS is a game where you fly ROCKETS that shoot ROCKETS at other ROCKETS! The ultimate in arcade action arena combat, with the fluidity and amazing feel of soaring through space.

So what is in the game RIGHT NOW?

  • ROCKETS. We feature only the finest interstellar vehicles.
  • LOCAL VERSUS MULTIPLAYER. Get your fellow rocketeers together, we're going to BLOW THINGS UP!
  • UNDERDOG MODE. A flock of rockets versus the lone rebel. Amongst all the friendly fire, will you rocket to the top?
  • TEAM PLAY. Every rocket needs a wing-person!
  • STANLEY. This is a story of a rocket named Stanley. Meet the AI Rocket that thinks he has free will, and meet the rockets he will relentlessly fire at your rocket.
  • COOL LIGHT TRAILS. These are some classy rockets that are a lot of fun to fly.
  • ALL THE CONTROLLERS. In addition to full keyboard support, we currently support dozens of different controllers, and are always adding more!
  • MODDING. Dig into our data files and edit yourself up a new game mode! Steam Workshop support!

Right now ROCKETSROCKETSROCKETS is an excellent play-with-friends or party game, and attracts crowds when we demo it at events and meetups. Brushing up your skills with the A.I., Stanley, or taking on your friends and loved ones is a blast, as is simply enjoying the wonderful dance of the rockets!

And what is planned for THE FUTURE?

The Alpha version here on Early Access is in constant development, with big updates usually once per month (and experimental builds on an almost daily basis). Though we have tons of small things to try and refine, and though we won't know what's fun and what works until we implement it, here are the things we want to try to get into the game:
  • ROCKETS. The game will not be complete until there are more ROCKETS in it.
  • COUCH vs. COUCH. Play single-player or co-op locally while simultaneously playing competitively over the internet, for maximum fun!
  • LEAGUES. East vs. West? AZ vs. BC? Local friends? No matter what aspirations, a built-in league tracker will let you know how close you are to competing in the NATIONALS.
  • SINGLE-PLAYER TRAINING. Right now you can technically practice with our first A.I., Stanley, but we want to throw actual learning scenarios at you so you can discovery the higher levels of strategy, improve your aim, and challenge yourself and your friends to beat your records!
  • SINGLE-PLAYER CAMPAIGN. Hone your skills and rank your rocketeering status with an engaging single player campaign with bonus endless modes!
  • LEADERBOARDS. Think you're the fastest shot in the West? Let's find out!
  • ZEN MODE. Explore the romantic tension as the rockets perform an intricate ballet around each other, making art, not war. Change the color of your contrails instead of firing weapons and share your works of art with the world!
  • CO-OP MODE. We're experimenting with different co-op modes, including two players on a single rocket rocket -- one person flies, one person shoots.
  • ROCKET BRAINZ. A system to allow players to write their own AIs for the rockets and see how they fare!
  • YOUR IDEAS. We listen to our rocketeers. Let us know in the discussion forums!

Of course, we're so early in development, who knows what the future will bring? Be sure to post your ideas to our forums!

Great game.

The art style is nice, the concept is amazing, and the game feels really new too. It has a nice flat UI that looks pretty and responds nicely. It isn't too cluttered but has it's options.

It's a very simple little game where you are a rocket and you shoot missiles, bombs, and explosives at other missiles.

Basically you dogfight with rockets. Fun.

It's like Geometry Wars and Starwhals had a love child and Geometry Wars has custody.
My only gripe is the epileptic seizures from all the vibrant color.

And I love getting epileptic color seizures.

This shows promise and I hope to see more for the full release/10

Although its in early access, ROCKETSROCKETSROCKETS is hella fun in its current state. This game is faced paced. Really fast. You'll dodge mines, rockets, and bombs by the skin of your teeth constantly. The AI is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and will beat you many, many, many times. I've played for over 10 hours and it still kicks my ♥♥♥. The art style is attractive and easy on the eyes. Only problem so far for me is navigating the menus at first, but you'll get used to it.

Hellas
  • Slick visuals
  • Invigorating music
  • Great gameplay
  • ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AI

Non-hellas
  • Menu navigation

10/10 would shoot rockets again

Fun game and the music as well as the neon theme really come together nicely with the high-paced close encouters when firing rockets from your rocket at other rockets that are firing rockets at you.

Like... it's cool and everything and it looks like with some updates it will be awesome

Dislike... I haven't worked out how to do anything shooting bombs mines etc. on my keyboard. I don't have an xbox or any controllers (only controllers i have are PS2). If anyone works out how to do anything on a keyboard can they message me or comment on my review or anything (i'm new to steam I don't know much about it's mechanics)

I only got it because my favourite youtuber (linus tech tips) recommended it on his pax prime coverage

looks like a good game with lots of potential but the only thing I can do at the moment is dodge bullets...

EDIT:
J to shoot rockets K to shoot rockets dependant on gravity L to shoot bombs

dogfight is freaking awesome

PLEASE READ THE EDIT BELOW

Keyboard controls in Module 3 piss me off.

I have no controller that I can use on this game, so I used the keyboard in module 2. Which, although hard to find, were easy to use after very little playing. With Module 3, they made the game much more flashier and amazing, which I enjoy for the most part. However, the new keyboard controls are ridiculous, especially if you played often in Module 2. They migrated the movement keys from WASD to the arrow keys, so now I have to use my left hand for movement instead of shooting, and vice versa. The new shooting controls were swapped entirely, which pisses me off even further.

So, for Module 2, 9/10.

For Module 3, 5/10. Do not recommend the current version. Play module 2 instead if its possible.

EDIT: I apologize, the game elements I had mentioned early have now been fixed. It is now possible to edit your controls in Module 3. Because of this, I give this game 9/10. This is a great game, and definitely deserves more attention than it currently does.

This game is hectic, fast, difficult, and a hell of a lot of fun. The concept is fairly simple; You have three weapons (bombs, mines, and ROCKETSROCKETSROCKETS,) and you have to use them to explode your opponent three times in a row. Combine that with great physics, simple controls, and utterly chaotic multiplayer (only local as of now, online to be added apparently), and you will be glad you spent your $5 on it. So just get it.

Also, really looking forward to what is going to be added.

Oh, nearly forgot. ROCKETSROCKETSROCKETS. (Best title ever)

In my view, the best indie game I've ever played so far.

It's a simple game where ROCKETS shoot several explosives at other ROCKETS.
Yet it's energetic and how the beats fit to the awesome music is just gorgeous.
I always get pumped up by playing this.

You can play alone with the AI or with friends in local multiplayer.
The AI is also pretty good and merciless. You may lose a lot in your first tries.

It's recommended to play with a controller. Your hands may hurt after playing a few rounds with the keyboard.
The game is still under development: Full 4 player support and online mode are coming soon. (Keep in mind that online mode is not 100% comfirmed yet and may not be in the final game. But it will, most likely.)
The development is slow, but it's understandable since it's a small team.

You can also go to the "experimental" stage by selecting Betas in the Properties from the Steam Libray to jump straight into the development and test the new features before they are officialy released.

I totally recommend this game to everyone! Just give it a try.

A fun couch game, excellent with friends and comes with a worth AI opponent for those without extra controllers. Development is moving, albeit slowly. The developer listens, I can see it turning out well.

It sounds like a boring game from the description. BUT HOW WRONG THAT IS. I thought I was getting a game that I could play for like 5 minutes and then put it down. NOPE, I end up getting really into it and having loads of fun. One of my favorite games.

Fantastic game. Low playtime so far but everytime I play with friends it's a blast and I don't see it getting old anytime soon. If you have the controllers to play with, this is a great pick and the perfect price for a solid local mp game with depth and strategy that you can play for hours. I've only played 1v1 and singleplayer so far and the AI is extremely challenging, but very fair. 1v1, however, is where it gets interesting...
