A.I.M.2 Clan Wars is a very enjoyable openworld game.
Gameplay is much like Elite or Wing Commander Privateer where you roam around the maps and trade with the several buildings or perform missions, all the while you control a glider in this game which contols a lot like the hovertanks from Battlezone 1998.
A more fitting comparison would be to say A.I.M.2 is somewhat of a crossing between Hard Truck: Apocalypse and Vangers.
There is also an economic model of trade between the buildings on any given map, while certainly interesting this feature isn't as well thought out as in X³ for example, at least I could never figure out how to get all the plants running smoothly.
The most interesting about this game is the setting however, an abondoned planet once used by humans for weaponsdevelopement and testing where at some point in time the machinery gained some form of selfawereness.
You play as a mechmind (selfaware computer) and are tasked by the overseering supercomputer (appropriately called Super) to guide the planets population of mechminds to the next step in evolutionary developement by uniting all the individual clans of mechminds.
The narrative is really unique and I kept playing mostly to satisfy my curiosity.
A.I.M.2 has some bugs however, the most annoying was that I had to set the .exe to Windows 98 compatiblity otherwise the game would freeze. I also encountered a bug with a certain glider where it wouldn't control and external views didn't work.
Also certain missions require some grinding which I thought was unnessecary.
Though I'm no graphicsfanatic I suffered some FPS slowdowns and sometimes even freezups but the freezups went away with Alt-Tabbing in and out of the game.
Anisotropic filtering and anti-aliasing doesn't seem to work for me in this game.
I haven't finished the game yet but so far I'm enjoying A.I.M.2 a lot.
