I really wanted to like this game, I played the original and really enjoyed it and I played the sequels and with each prgoressive game the quality got worse. Sure the visuals got better each time, but each time the humorous additives lessened until they were eliminated in Fable III. This return to the original is very disappointing. They upgraded the graphics yes, but that seems to be just about it. The controls are the same but can thankfully be retuned to their better counterparts from later games.

The animations are a HUGE disappointment. The models look a bit better but definitely nothing like what we saw in Fable III, the animations for them are not even remotely changed and this makes the new models pointless if they don't have updated animations as well. They still remain stiff and awkward and very simple.

The models themselves don't even do the original characters justice. Maze looks awful with that awful goatee that just sticks out like a sore thumb. Whisper's head is all wrong for the entire prologue looking like it should on a young adult whisper as opposed to a kid a little older than the player. The child character, oh man is that a monstrosity. It doesn't even remotely match or even harken to the old child hero. The new character models for villagers are at least decent. But overall the lack of attention or faithfulness to the original character designs does not bode well.

Thankfully the music is still quite good, but it is disappointing that nothing appears to have been remastered or redone as would be normal for a HD remake.

The cutscenes appear to not be changed at all, still using transparent renders from the original version.

Overall this "HD" remake appears to be not even worth the effort Lionhead put in it, I had high hopes the new creative head would lead the company to better endeavours but clearly this is not the case. The HD remake hasn't done the game justice in my opinion and is definitely not worth 35 dollars. Maybe 15 if you stretch it. This isn't a HD re-release, it's a nostalgia trap.

4/10 While the original game is still there, there's not been near enough done to improve on the old and just leaves the remake a flashy mess.

Fable Anniversary delivers what it promised; A prettier version of the original game.
The game has aged well on its own, but the new graphics definitely make me personally want to play it more than the original. And that's honestly about it; it only ropes me in for the nostalgia.

This isn't a game for everyone, however, as it does run into some problems. I can't stand the new UI, which is clonky and harder to navigate than the original's, and the implementation of the DLC is pretty bland and honestly not worth considering. As others have no doubt already pointed out, the pricing is outrageous for a simple HD rerelease. For the full, and best experience of the Fable franchise, you're better off sticking to Fable: TLC which is only 10 dollars. Anniversary is about $35 with DLC being a total of $25. The DLC offers nothing new to the game except fancy accessories that are weaker than the Vanilla armors and weapons. $60 dollars for the full "Anniversary" experience versus a $10 fee for the original vanilla experience. The difference in pricing is absurd, and the fact that the developers want 60 dollars for an old game with a new paint job is just stupid.

The only bug I have run into personally is one where the game crashes while trying to spend experience points, but that in itself is enough to warrant negative attention as it breaks immersion.

Once the game goes down in price, I'd recommend this game to anyone new to the Fable franchise, as it really holds up better than the sequels of the original game. Until then, however, stick with the $10 TLC.

Overall, if you're a fan of Fable, then pick this one up for the flashy new graphics, with a "old time/new look" timey-wimey wibbly-wobbly stuff game.

There were some hiccups at the initial launch though, and I covered them honestly in the text below.

I was skeptical at first about buying this game (mainly because I already own Fable TLC), but after checking out the screenshots of the interface and spell effects I decided to take the plunge and buy it.
There were some Keyboard and Mouse control, nonassignable buttons, oversights at first, but the devs were quick to respond to the forum users asking for the "BLOCK" function and other keys to be able to be user-assigned.
So that oversight was quickly ironed out.
The other initial oversight was that it was very clear that the menu system was designed with a controller in mind rather than a K+M setup, but yet again, the devs have hopped on that, and I can currently, (and happily) click away with my mouse in the overall menu (Inventory/Quests/Maps etc)

I have to give a thumbs up to the devs as well, they LISTENED to our feedback and FIXED things. How great is that?
They get a double thumbs-up for that in MY book :)

Now where's Fable 2 for the PC? ;)

When I first played fable the lost chapters on the original xbox I thoroughly enjoyed it, and so I was excited for the anniversary but I am very dissapointed. yeah they redid the graphics and audio but their no where as good as what we saw in fable lll (fable lll story and combat is crap). The controls are different to the lost chapters (on pc) which I found confusing at times. It severely droppped for me when I was stuck in a mission and couldnt leave without going to a previous save I made 3 hours before so I just stopped playing. There are so many bugs and glitches its not funny, its a waste of money you might as well buy the lost chapters for $10. I do not recommend this game for anyone because the price is way too high. Not recommended

Do you like games where the UI is coded to disappear after a few seconds for no conceivable reason, and with no option to stop that from happening?

Do you like games that have a hotkey bar for quick item use but won't show it on the screen?

Do you like games that let you change your keybindings except for the ones displayed with a lock next to them because you aren't allowed to change them for some reason? Or how some keys can be assigned to multiple actions and others cannot for some reason?

Do you like games that give you the option to invert your look settings but don't give you look sensitivity options?

Do you like games that randomly decide to change what type of input controls you're using so suddenly your keyboard is useless?

Do you like games that are console ports of remakes of console ports of remakes that try to sell you on updated graphics?

Then you'll LOVE Fable Anniversary!

While I understand everyone's opinion I don't agree. This game is a lot of fun and relaxing. I didn't buy it at launch so I didn't experience all the glitches and performance issues but I don't think that would of changed my view. The combat is nice and simple and it looks beautiful. However it does have it's issues. All in all I think if you like RPG's you should pick this up. But wait until it's on sale, I don't think this is worth $35.

Verdict: 7/10

I would not recommend this game, I loved the original Fable TLC and because of its age you could accept certain glitches.
However as this is a remake and they apparently did an overhaul I think you might expect a little more polish and maybe some extra content.
- The animations are clunky compared to todays standard
- There are visible texture seams
- Loading times between different sections
- (G)UI design is terrible and clunky

Again I could have accepted this for a game released in 2001, but if you decide to do a remake make sure that you give it a bit of an effort and not just load some levels in the UNreal engine and add better dynamic lighting and upres some textures and recompile again.

Oh boy. Where do i begin? Oh yes, this remaster sucks.
First of all, the port is horribly done. The camera is locked on a slow as hell sensitivity, and it moves strangely. Mouse support in menus is non existent. You have to use your keyboard purely when you're trying to navigate menus. And even that's poorly done. Sometimes in menus, the highlight for selecting will go into a random direction as if the arrow keys were sticking, making actually using these menus almost impossible to use. No matter what i do, it won't stop doing it. Some of the default keybinds are so random feeling. It's almost as if they attached printed image of a keyboard and threws darts to determine which key will do what. The combat lock-on is horribly done. You zoom in way to much, making your character take up half the screen. Fighting more than one enemy is extremely difficult. The dodge and block is the same key, which screws you over even more than most games that have multiple functions for 1 key. The delay in actually blocking has a massive delay, and not from doing other actions either. not matter what i do there's always a massive delay, making blocking almost impossible. Thankfully, dodging is actually useful, compared to blocking. The graphics have barely improved. It mostly looks like the textures were slapped onto the old fable 1 models. They look out of place and it makes the characters look hideous. Same for the lighting and environmental textures. Sure, you could say it's because it uses the same engine, but even then they were lazy in actually improving the graphics. The keyboard and mouse control scheme are horrid. Most of the time you have to go to the other side of the keyboard and back to actually do anything. I really wanted to like this game. I really did, but they were so lazy in actually making this as good as the original. If you really wanted to play this version, at least play with a controller. If even that doesn't work, get the Fable: the lost chapters. It's not only cheaper, but the combat mechanics are more enjoyable, and in general a better version.

I really do not know why people hate this game so much, it is exactly what it is advertised as without anything more or less. I have yet to crash and I have enjoyed every second of playing as much as I did when this game came out ten years ago.

I have played Fable and Fable TLC countless times, the game is stellar and to see it remade with HD graphics brings me another layer of joy. Its like when you don't play a game for years and years and years and when you look back on playing it with rose colored glasses and then you see the HD remake and you think yourself, this is what I remember. They didn't cut anything but they didn't really add anything. I got the game on sale and it was well worth the 15 dollars that I spent on it. Fable will provide you hours and hours of entertainment and is way better than any of its sequels. Pick this game up and you will not regret it.

I do very few reviews-normally only on games that I feel strongly about. As far as Fable Anniversary goes, save your money. Especially if you already have the original version, if you don't just spend the 10 dollars and buy the original instead of throwing money away for this 'paint job' as most are calling it. The game runs smoothly with very few bugs that I've run across yet, got stuck in a wall once, rolled into a rock and got stuck, couple of game crashes- nothing major since the game auto-saves for you quite often. However, it is still the original game! Nothing has been added besides a few extra colors, sure it looks pretty that your shadow now follows the lighting properly but most of us don't really care about that beyond the first couple 'ooohs' and 'ahhhs'. The extra colors add a few more hues and textures but nothing mind blowing or game altering especially since most of the maps are darker toned anyway. All the in game movements of the characters, both your own and npc's, are blocky and out dated. The original game itself is still great and in all honesty with this play through I really haven't noticed anything that was worth the money I spent on the anniversary edition even at 50% off with the holiday sale. I have a feeling the developers were just looking for a way to make a quick buck with little work.
Now that my ramble is done here's my point again: DO NOT BUY THIS VERSION OF THE GAME UNLESS IT DROPS BELOW THE ORIGINALS PRICE!

Fable is one of my favorite game series of all time. If you liked the original, picking up the remaster is a no-brainer. It's funny how little it seems upgraded until you fire up the old version and are reminded how old it actually is. The graphics are actually MUCH better now, not just in terms of poly count and textures, but also in the lighting and post processing.

Fable probably won't play well on a keyboard and mouse. I have always just used a controller on my PC to play it. The 360 version works great. I love that they also ported over the control scheme from Fable 2 and 3 so you select either that or the classic Fable controller setup.

Now, Lionhead: WHERE IS FABLE 2 FOR THE PC?!?!

Not worth it. I played a good chunk of the game on Heroic difficulty ("Hard mode" where the potions are scarce and the merchants shaft you every 10 seconds and enemies are hitting for 234 health at the beginning) and got pretty far into the story I got to the arena and met lady gray and have to go free the mother from the prison
and just dropped it out of nowhere, probably because it was just the fact I got bored of the game and had been forcing myself to play it, making me get burned out on Fable HD in like a day or two.

The game adds almost zero changes, save some lame costumes and weapons that are immediately outed by ingame artifacts you can get for cheaper If you know how to get tham, and if you don't I'm sure there's oads of walkthroughs on them. This game has run less stable than the older Fable TLC, and the HD Revamp doesn't seem to be much, just a giant retexture of the old one.

In conclusion, I would not reccomend this game, either play or buy the old Fable.

For those of you who haven't played the original game for XBOX, this game is awesome. I've wanted to play it for years, but didn't have an XBOX. I'm not used to playing RPG on a PC but the controls are easy to learn.

I recommend this game for those who, like me, haven't played Fable before!

Despite having no new content I found myself enjoying the brilliance of the old fable again. This fable is the best in my honest opinion and it will take much to waver that opinion. The better graphics and controller support are fantastic, seeing how I played this gem on my old xbox growing up. Although the new reskins are quite bad on the main characters. Weird mishapen people giving off way more eye contact than nesscary. The absoulute best one I found was on Thunder, a large black hero. He, no joke, looks like a balck guy in blackface. Briar rose, a sexy nerd like hero in the original, killed my boner faster than the speed of light in the remastered. All-in-all, if you LOVE fable or somehow missed playing the original give this game a try, but only on sale. $35 is an outrageous price for a 10 yo game. I purchased this on the winter steam sale.

If you look at my hours played in this review for length im about 2/3ish into the game.

Big thumbs down. While the textures have a higher resolution, etc, the art just isn't as good, IMHO. Buy Fable: The Lost Chapters instead, and crank up the detail level. It actually looks better -- the models, characters, etc, clearly had more effort put into them in the original than they did for the remake.

Big, big waste of money, especially when the original still looks and plays fine.

This game seems to be completely glitched. Upon starting the game, there are no people in Oakvale. I get no quest, I can't get into my home and I can't find my sister. At this point, I do not recommand the game.

It was fixed some but no enough. Too many people still have problems, the mod creator can't really mod anything either. If you want mods you're better off not even buying the anniversary edition but the normal one from 2005 and then get mods off websites, or if you wanted you can just use Photoshop and ushc programs to do it without the modding client at all in the case of reclours and retextures. The animations are still choppy, and the game can lag on itself even afetr you turn off the blurring effects. The old modding community thought slow now has some amazing mods which sadly don't seem to work with the anniversary edition which makes sense but is sad because there were really great mods. (Fable The New World, being a personal fav) but this version yes has prettied some graphics the trees look no better then they used to, argueably they in particular look worse. Microsoft promised a lot with this version and failed to deliver...not worth the money. (Was false advertised)

Let me start by saing I love this game : 3 It is an amazing game.

However, this edition on steam is a real pain to play.
Most of the menu buttons do not line up right or do not do what they say.
To even start the game I had to find an invisable button and click an empty space between the two buttons to launch my new character...

100% unacceptable for a game that has been out forever to be released again with so many bugs in the menus...

Update: the Issue with the buttons not lining up is dependent on the Resolution you are using if you have issues you can try another resolution. Still 100% bs that its jacked up.
