Minor update

The gamma12 build is live on Steam now. This is a fairly minor update with the following changes and fixes:

  • -novignette and -notint can now be specified on the command line to hide the vignette and tint.
  • Added European Portuguese translation.
  • Fixed the crash when starting the game from within a directory named with non-ANSI characters.
  • Resuming an archived game now correctly restores the score.
  • Logging's been added around the Daily Challenge to track down the update loop it can get stuck in.

Bug fixes and enhancements

The gamma9 build has been deployed, this includes the following changes:

  • Tidied up service calls for fetching leaderboards and the daily challenge, which means a slightly quicker UI.
  • Fixed uncommon case where the transition or engine sound would loop continuously.
  • Tapping the control key will play a quick red burst animation on top of the mouse cursor. Handy if you've lost it!
  • Fixed inconsistencies in the German translation.
  • Removed one-frame snap when continuing a scored game.
  • Screenshot and GIF save notification messages no longer persist past their useful lifetime.

About This Game

In Mini Metro, you take on the task of designing the subway layout for a rapidly expanding city. Your city starts with three stations. Draw routes between these stations to connect them with subway lines. Commuters travel along your lines to get around the city as fast as they can. Each station can only hold a handful of waiting commuters so your subway network will need to be well-designed to avoid delays.

The city is growing. More stations are opening, and commuters are appearing faster. The demands on your network are ever-increasing. You'll be constantly redesigning your lines to maximise efficiency. The new assets you earn every week will help immensely — as long as they're used wisely.

Eventually your network will fail. Stations will open too quickly. Commuters will crowd the platforms. How long the city keeps moving is up to you.

A very simple minimalistic puzzle/strategy game about subways and metros. It's fun, simple and changes just enough from level to level to keep it interesting.

One of the best parts is the sound design, with the sound effects and small minimal background additions making up a very serene but moving song that gets faster as your city does. Disasterpiece did a great job integrating the sounds of the metro trains leaving/arriving to stations and moving into the overall soundtrack and it actually adds to the sound behind it. It's porn for a music nerd/game designer like me and most others would agree as well.

Realistically modelled after Toronto, NYC or any major city with a metro system:
Available resources inversely proportional to need.
Passengers only get off at stations that look like themselves.
Once sufficient number of passengers are delivered, city is "won" and consultants move onto the next city, leaving the chaos they created in the hands of the politicians.

A strategy simulation game of subways! The description might sound unappetizing but rest assured, the game is addicting and fun. Connect different shapes together to make a metro map and haul passengers from one destination to the next. Better hurry though. If they wait too long you lose the game. Get the highest score and be the best Mini Metro player in the world!

Mini Metro :) [8/10]

A very intersting & simple puzzle strategy game that requires you to construct an efficient & well-organized rail transit network in several cities in order to hold out for more time & have more passengers before you have a crowded node or a station.

I recommend this game to any player who's interested in puzzle & simple strategy.

It might look kind of slow and boring, but it's actually a pretty fun game. It feels very polished and all of the transitions between menus and such are very fluid.

Gameplaywise it's a fun planning game. You just drag your mouse between stations to draw lines that the trains can go on. For a while it's pretty slow but then more stations are popping up and the stations get more people on them so you need to be awake at all time and rework you rails so the trains move more efficent. After a while it gets really stressful, but in a cute and fun way.

All in all, it's a good and cute game. Not something that you'll play for hours straight, but it's easy to just pick up and play it for a while and then do something else.

I’m not sure if this is a game or not - It IS beautiful though!

Mini Metro wants you to draw & redraw train lines (while they’re running, somehow) to ferry shape based passengers to shape based stops. If too many passengers stack up on a station they get angry, which starts a timer, and if you don’t appease them you lose. That is 49 more words of instruction than I got from the game; it is not[/b] fond of text.

If you’re looking for story or even a feeling of completion, this is not your game. The only way to judge “done” is by achievements - every map is simply a “survive as long as possible” proposition. That said, the achievements are challenging enough to give you something to chew on.

Visually it’s awesome. Musically, I’m reminded of Lumines where the game has some ambient sounds, but the music of the game is mostly generated by game events. It was relaxing in its way …until the little bouncing anger passengers had me so panicked I wasn’t listening anymore.

Who should play: anyone into organization porn (you know who you are)

Mini Metro is a little game with minimal art where you create your own metro maps according to the needs of your city and people.

Each station is represented by a geometrical symbol (you start with a cube, circle, and triangle at three random spots, relatively close to each other), and at the stations people will appear as smaller copies of those geometrical symbols, which indicates to which kind of station they want to travel. By connecting the stations with your rails, you create ways for your people to travel to their wanted stations. As time goes by, more stations will appear, usually more cubes, circles, and triangles, and it doesn't matter to which station your people travel as long as it is the right shape.

You have a limited amount of train lines, bridges/tunnels, and trains/wagons. Each end of the week, you will get a choice between two additional supplies, to help you out. Choose wisely as it can make a difference between surviving the game or ending early. Luckily you can constantly change how you arrange your supplies.

Later on more and more unique stations will appear in shapes of stars, ovals, crosses, etc... and you will only ever get one of each. This is where it gets tough, as travellers to those stations can crowd your trains fast. They will also start appearing more and more in harder to reach places (across water, etc...), and the stations will get people wanting to travel faster as well. The game ends when a station has too many people waiting to get on trains.

The gameplay is pretty solid, the music is very relaxing, and on endless mode the game can be just what you need to have a quiet time. Each city has its own unique achievement that makes the gameplay a little different for each map, which otherwise would make each city just too similar. It makes replaying the game not a chore.

Mini Metro is minimalist puzzle game themed around mass transportation. The goal is to pick up and deliver passengers by connecting stations to your system with a limited number of resources based on trains and lines. With a design that is both sleek and intuitive, the game requires little in terms of explanation for a new player. It's so easy to pick up that it comes as a shock when the game suddenly crushes your pathetic metro system under the weight of cruel reality.

  • Clean, minimalist design that ties into the transportation theme
  • Puzzles are easy to understand but ramp up in difficulty
  • Randomized station generation offers replayability
  • Advanced strategies are not instantly apparent and require some experimentation for those looking for a challenge
  • Mellow ambient music lowers your rage as passengers overload your metro system

  • Crushes your dreams of being a transportation engineer
  • Randomized station generation means some thematic elements are lost; ie. you won't be building the exact replica of the London Tube
  • Maps are devoid of placenames to connect you to the actual cities featured in the game
  • The game always ends with you losing; only solace is how far up the leaderboard you can go

The negative points about randomized station generation and lack of thematic depth should be taken with the caveat that these were obviously purposeful choices, made to elevate the minimalist design. I personally found the game very enjoyable and would recommend it to anyone looking for an interesting take on transportation games.

The daily challenge, and having friends on the list, gives a fantastic long-term metagame. Death to the Extreme Mode city planners that pop up stations almost, but not quite, on your existing lines!

Many games can fulfill your dream of being a a knight or a ninja, saving or destroying the world, explore outer space, and so on.

But only this game can achieve my ultimate fantasy: building more than four metro lines in Montreal.

(On a side note, this is one of the rare games in which the achievements don't appear useless to me. They are truly challenging and give you a reason to go back to the game).

I ask myself, Why didn't I make this game?

As simple as it may seem. YOUR WRONG. It is not simple at all and it really puts a different view in my mind about the people who made our train systems. The people who have to deal with us by working at that train stations, out in view and behind the sence.

You have to think is it better to have one main place for everyone to be transfering like Penn Station on the north east side of the USA. Should it flow different like the BART system on the west coast of the USA. Sadly, it is not one or the other. Some place make changes all the time to better time and get more people around where they need to be.

You could start off simple with one line or just keep it three lines but you may find yourself finding the people getting upset and the game ends quickly. A lot of pressure or maybe it is no pressure at all if you like puzzles and strategy. With this game you will have to keep changing your strategies through the game or maybe just in the beginning depending on how you read the game. Even how your draw the line between spots has strategy all on its own.

I do enjoy this game. It is very relaxing to my engineer mindset which doesn't seem to turn off, this game makes it slow down. The music is calming as well. Personally, I am not sure if they change the music through out each different stations, but never the less, it does keep me calm. Plus it is so simple to learn how to draw between stations, my mother who hasn't toucch a computer since they did punch cards for programming, can understand it and enjoy it as well or help me play along.

This game is so stunningly simple and yet so complex with just the right amount of difficulty.
So glad I took a chance on this game. Feeling like you're redesigning the major metros/subway systems of the world was cool, relatable, and satisfying. I hope more cities are added in the future.. Especially Chicago and Toronto- I thought the EL would've been a no-brainer. That being said, this game has high replayability. You always want to top your best score and that's difficult for a game to accomplish. Solid 8.5/10 from me. This was an absolute STEAL on the steam sale- it almost feels criminal. ALMOST.
