Upcoming price increase!

We've just pushed beta33 with a few tweaks to the audio and a number of stability fixes. As of beta31 we've been getting automatic exception reports through Unity Cloud Services, which is making it much simpler to find and fix all sorts of issues—wish I'd known about it months ago! :)

Now that the audio is in and a release date is looking closer, we'll soon be increasing the price of Mini Metro. The original intention, back in August 2014, was to steadily increase the price until launch as the planned features were added. The first increase was always going to be happen when audio went in ... seemed like a good idea back when we expected it in after only a few months.

So, if you're waiting to pick up Mini Metro, now's your chance! If you already do (thanks!), tell your friends to get in while the going's good. Preferably all of them, repeatedly. Just keep at it until they cave.

Beta31: Audio!

After more than a year in Early Access (how did that happen!?), audio is now in on the main branch. We hope you enjoy it! We're working on a few issues, and Disasterpeace is busy perfecting it, so there may be some changes over the next couple of weeks.

In other news, we've redesigned the city selection screen to show a city preview again, as well as a short description of what to expect from each city.

About This Game

In Mini Metro, you take on the task of designing the subway layout for a rapidly expanding city. Your city starts with three stations. Draw routes between these stations to connect them with subway lines. Commuters travel along your lines to get around the city as fast as they can. Each station can only hold a handful of waiting commuters so your subway network will need to be well-designed to avoid delays.

The city is growing. More stations are opening, and commuters are appearing faster. The demands on your network are ever-increasing. You'll be constantly redesigning your lines to maximise efficiency. The new assets you earn every week will help immensely — as long as they're used wisely.

Eventually your network will fail. Stations will open too quickly. Commuters will crowd the platforms. How long the city keeps moving is up to you.

Mini Metro is a game that allows the player to teach all those transportation moguls how to properly setup a metro grid, or how to properly fail at doing so. Odds are it will be the latter.
It's an incredibly fun and challenging game, that will leave the player looking for the best possible routes.

Transportation is the center of the world! It is the glue of our daily lives. When it goes well, we don't see it. When it goes wrong, it negatively colors our day, makes us feel angry and impotent, curtails our possibilities.

Without any further delay, I present to you my review of Mini Metro.

If riding a metro is part of your daily routine, you'll either be extremely interested in trying Mini Metro out, or completely uninterested.
The goal is to "survive" as many days as possible by having customers happy, which means providing them transportation without having to spend much time waiting for it. As you can easily imagine, that's pretty simple to do, but as the game goes on, not only will the map increase, more stations will also start appearing, which can, sometimes, force the player to redo all the lines.
At the end of each week there will be a couple rewards, from more locomotives, to carriages, tunnels and extra lines, all of which can be used to make life easier. But choose wisely, as you may find yourself in need of either reward sooner than you think.
It's up to the player to make sure they don't end up like all the metro companies in the world, full of angry customers.

  • Really good concept;
  • Has a feel of progression looking at the map grow as the game goes on;
  • Minimalist UI, containing everything that's needed and nothing more;
  • Beautiful design;
  • If you ever get eye sore from all the white background, you can also change to night mode, and vice versa;
  • Doesn't get too repetitive, as the starting stations are randomized;
  • Various city maps;
  • Active development team;
  • Price.

Considering it's an Early Access (EA) game, I've decided to add a "Neutral" category, for details I consider important, but not gamebreakers, and could easily improve the gameplay if attended.

  • Lack of a soundtrack/sound effects (which is already part of the developers' plan);
  • Would be nice to see different vehicle models, even if only for each country/city.

Not much to point out "Cons" wise, as the game is pretty solid.

  • Once you get the hang of it, it sort of becomes trivial.

I'd give it a 9/10, as it offers the player a nice and relaxing experience, as well as a nice change from the current gaming trend.
