About This Game

Rise of Nations

Rise of Nations is a real-time strategy game that spans all history.
Start with a single city in the Ancient Age; gather resources; build an infrastructure; research technologies; construct Wonders of the World such as the Pyramids and the Eiffel Tower; and expand your military might across the world, conquering hostile nations with bombers, battleships, and tanks—all over your lunch hour!

In Rise of Nations there are:
  • 18 Nations—each with special abilities and unique military units.
  • Over a hundred military units operating on the ground, sea, and air— from Hoplites to Frigates to Helicopters.
  • Over two dozen buildings with upgrades and technologies that will take your nation from a small City to an Information Age society.
  • 14 Wonders of the World—the Terra Cotta Army, the Taj Mahal, the Eiffel Tower. Each gives your nation special bonuses.
  • More than a dozen map types, ranging from the Amazon Rainforest to the Himalayas to the Nile Delta.
  • Conquer the World campaign—a linked series of dozens of scenarios.

The Extended Edition includes:

  • Rise of Nations
  • Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots

Considering I've always enjoyed Age of Empires II a lot, I wasn't sure that this game was worth the buy. Let me tell you right off the bat: it is, especially on sale.

Age of Empires II has a lot of nostalgic value for me, considering I was playing it on the original disc a long time ago, but Rise of Nations hits home on the RTS genre. As opposed to being locked to one era, you advance all the way from slingers to assault infantry. As expected, nukes are present too and holy h*ll are they devastating.

Most RTS concepts are done better and more efficiently than in Age of Empires in my opinion. Overall, Rise of Nations is better and totally worth at least a chance. (Especially if you enjoy AoE, or games like AoE.)

First of all, i've never played RTS before and i suck at playing RTS, but then i met this game and it seemed interesting for me. So i bought it, and spent around 72.5hrs (as of writing this review). But i still suck at this game, i played only on Easiest difficulty. This game is just amazing, a classic masterpiece

good rts game although with some issues like boxing inaccuracy and clunky minimap scrolling

compared to age2, this game is pretty crap for 1v1. would not recommend for the competitive player

Best RTS game ever made! Still don't understand why most people insist on playing Aoe while they have Rise of Nations. Considering the Ron offers better unit control even with full population, doesn't restrict players with medieval age and allows you to make more strategic moves both in economy and military; i have difficulties finding a reasonable explanation for not to choose Ron in this and almost every other RTS comparison. Only con of this game is the lack of players in online otherwise it is highly recommended to everyone who loves playing strategy games!

It was a classic and masterpiece RTS in my eye when I was 15. Now I am 29 and I am still finding it a classic and masterpiece RTS which is what AOEIII should had been in my less than humble opinion.

been playing this since i was 6. I remember when we hooked up the landline cables so i could play with people across the house. then it went from that to ip servers and playing with friends across the country. And, of course, steam popped up and i can play with anyone and everyone. 10 years later its just as gold.

only the committed will get that.

This is one of my favorite childhood game I like to play since I was 8. I'm glad the renovated version is now on steam. Also some reviewers are pretty autistic and needs to get the lip smashed with a hot steaming flag metallic ruler.
