This is a very nice game to play when you are bored or you ain't got nothin to do.The controls are easy to learn and the game remembers me of the old McRae.The only thing that sucks at is the number of cars you can drive.

I had the CD for the original game 14 years ago... And to be 100% honest, this cr*p it's not the game that i've used to play,
the game itself is completely messed up here... It's a shame, this game (original) was REALLY AWESOME, one of the best WRC games that i've ever played back in 2004. If you want to play it, go with the "original CD version".

Pure garbage. Got this game as part of a bundle and uninstalled it immediatley after realising it is a badly made mobile game made even worse by shoddily porting it to pc. If your a fan of racing games do not touch this. If however you have a burning hatred for your own self worth then this is the game for you!

I was hoping to get something along the lines of the old pre-Dirt Colin games...instead I got a port of a mobile game. For 7 bucks (though it was on sale when I bought it, but I was still disappointed).

The only reason one would recommend this game is for easy 100% achievements. Beyond that, if the price was a dollar it is maybe understandable being bored...It has four cars, each are very similar. Damage slows you down a pinch, but not significant enough. If I had this on mobile it wouldn't be as bad. Being on pc the lack of care shows. There is hidden spots on the track you slam into for no reason. Any surface you are drifting on ice. Overall 4/10 (and that's being nice)

I was not able to bear playing this game for more than half an hour.

Except for some fine graphical effects and acceptable rally stages, this game is comprised of only poor or horrible elements: wonky physics, no analog steering, terrible optimization (runs worse than DiRT 3 for me) and no interesting completion rewards.

To be honest this game shouldn't cost more than 1€.

This game is not awful. The graphics are not good (the vuvuzela sound is annoying as sh*t though) and the controls are okay I guess...but this game is neither worth your time nor money. It is just a "cheap" cash in so don't ever buy it, not even on sale.

Mobile port. Mobile port. MOBILE PORT.

I shouldn't really have to say anything else. But if I have to, it's a featureless, bland, ugly, slow, clunky, empty shell of a racing game vastly surpassed in quality and content by a ps1 game of the same name.

There are only four cars in it. You can't customize them in any way.

The AI drivers are invisible.

The backgrounds are 2d sprites.

There is only one music track, as far as I can tell.

Mobile port.

That is all.

Pros:
-Fun for a while
Cons:
-IT'S A PORT OF A MOBILE GAME,NOT A COLIN MCRAE RALLY 2.0 REMASTER
-Big jumps end with our car doing a barrel roll
-Only 4 cars
-The graphics are HORRIBLE(I understand,it's a mobile game port,but if you can't place a single 3D TREE...)
-Cars steer like on ice(which makes braking useless)

2/10

Colin McRae Rally is a game that I really recommend because:
- is a method to banish boredom
- is a game with a wide variety of nice cars, nice maps, nice missions, etc.
- this game stimulate your competitive part
- has controller support
- have trading cards
- is a truly racing game
- has singleplayer mode
and... why you don't try?

Enjoy!

This game is terrible, it's essentially just a mobile game ported over to PC.

It has no customization, the tracks are all crap, the car is crap, the car handles like crap, the game sounds like crap.

This game is just crap.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!
I really wanted to give this a good review. I had a lot of great memories playing the original 2 Colin McRae rally games as a kid. When I saw this pop up on Steam I didn't hesitate to buy it.
That was huge mistake. I thought I would play it through before reviewing it in the hope it would redeem itself, but it just got worse. Firstly this is not a remake, rather its a re release of a mobile verion of the game. the controls are evidence of this. No matter how hard I try I cannot get this to work with either my controller or steering wheel. The inputs seem to change everytime you play the game or just flat out refuse to work.
There were 16 cars in the original Colin McRae 2.0 game, this has 4!
The menus are awful, the resolution keeps changing between menus and racing, the physics are completely broken, and due to the control issues I cant finish the game. also whenever you touch the steering controls it seems to cut the power to the car, making it basically impossible to complete.
Codemasters have majorly dropped the ball with this one, which is such a shame, because they have done so well with DiRT Rally.

Badly made mobile port. But i don't mind it.
I don't care about graphics (duke nukem had better looking 2D backgrounds 20 years ago), don't care about bad physics (its arcade after all) or that there are only 4 cars (sic!).

But I will not forgive one thing. This game is f*** boring.
Have you ever almost fall asleep during race? Have you hit the wall and realised that after one minute because you were thinking about what to prepare for dinner? Yeah - it's THAT boring.

Also i had weird controler problems. I changed buttons bindings in launch menu and ocassionally they changed themself during race. Only way to change it back was to Alt+F4 and running game again.

Colin Mcrae Rally for Steam is a wonderfully crappy experience that everybody ages 0 through 100 should experience. The overall horrible physics paired with irresponsive controls make for an absolutely blissful playtime when racing throughout Australia over and over on the same few tracks.

I felt right at home when my brake barely even responded, or when my speed sporadically went up or down a lot with the lightest change of the gas trigger. It felt like I was truly there.

The graphics were immersive enough to fool me into thinking I was actually looking at my PS1 over a CRT TV. I loved the completely flat bushes and trees, as well as the completely solid tree texture surrounding the tracks. I wish more games were like this.

The sounds were beautiful. I loved the monotonous whispers of the co-driver into my ear as I flew against every tree on the course. I loved the sound of a tin can engine pushing itself far too hard.

I would truly recommend this game to anyone if they want to have a delightful experience of what a racing game shouldn't be. 10/10 would give more money if DLC existed.

Real talk, go play the actual Colin McRae Rally 2.0 for PC, it's an actual game instead of this tin can of a mobile "port."

I grabbed this game on -75% or -80% sale, yet I still regret it.

While this game might be bearable on mobile, it's absolutely horrible on PC. Its overall sloppiness (weird physics, terrible controls) makes it plain frustrating. The game is hard, but not because it's challenging - it's hard because it's broken.

If you really want to play Colin McRae Rally, just grab good old CMR 2.0. This "remaster" has virtually no strong points over the original game.

Some, if not most, gamers who reviewed this title have less than necessary mental capability to understand that this is a remake, not a sequel or a remaster, of a game released on December 5, 2000. This is why you will see many people recommending Dirt Rally (2015) over this remake of a 15 year old game.

You may ask "Why should I pay for this if I can just get a PS1 emulator and run the same thing?"

You are right, you can do that. Though the price you are paying nets you the extras of upgraded graphics, modern resolutions like 1080p, and framerates up to 60 per second.

The menus do make it look like this game has been ported over from mobile platform, that's one bad aspect, Another one is that the optimization is pretty terrible, tough graphics are equally horrible running on both "high" and "low" settings so don't bother over it.

Do not spend your money on Colin Mcrae Rally if you are looking for decent graphics and an authentic rally experience. Get this if you want to relive those old PS1 days, have some nostalgia, and appreciate how much games have improved since those old days.

Usually, when I write some impressions I always speak about what the game is all about instead of what it could have been. However, in a rally game with Colin McRae in the title it’s a bit hard to not see the true potential that has gone to waste. The description of the origin of the game tell no lies, it’s a port of a mobile game so we are aware of what we can expect in terms of visuals and weather effects, sound, and so on. However, there is some information that not only I do not agree but I also find it to be a bit misleading.

The description of the game mentions different types of surfaces. While this may be true, aside of road and off-road I didn’t see any other variations. There is no mud, no heavy dust, no snow or wet tracks giving you a very limited window when it comes to variety. Speaking of variety, the number of cars you can drive is really small, only four are available. This is a very low number for a rally game and to make it worst you need to unlock them if you want to race with them in the championship. The four cars are the Ford Focus, Subaru Impreza, the classic Lancia Stratos and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI. The sound is as important for me as the visuals and if you are a racing fan you will want to have those crazy sound engines screaming for the next shift but once again you can’t expect such thing in this game, which is fine for a mobile port but insufficient for a PC game.

In the end I played the game and got most of it, however there is not much to see and do which makes you search for better alternatives. The final line from the Store description ends with a bang but I’m afraid to be a really misleading sentence. It says “The Classic Rally Experience Races on PC and Mac” and I couldn’t agree less. This is not true at all no matter how big or small you are into racing games.

When is the original game (16 years old) bettter in EVERY single way than the "remaster"?
That's when people make a port of a mediocre mobile phone game

P.S. I got it free that's why I didn't got a refund ofc, even being a huge CMR2.0 fan
