About This Game

In 2013 the world was devastated by an apocalyptic event, annihilating almost all mankind and turning the Earth's surface into a poisonous wasteland. A handful of survivors took refuge in the depths of the Moscow underground, and human civilization entered a new Dark Age.

The year is 2033. An entire generation has been born and raised underground, and their besieged Metro Station-Cities struggle for survival, with each other, and the mutant horrors that await outside. You are Artyom, born in the last days before the fire, but raised underground. Having never ventured beyond the city limits, one fateful event sparks a desperate mission to the heart of the Metro system, to warn the remnants of mankind of a terrible impending threat.

Your journey takes you from the forgotten catacombs beneath the subway to the desolate wastelands above, where your actions will determine the fate of mankind. But what if the real threat comes from within?

A great update over the original and definitely the better of the two Redux games.

Graphics and gameplay have remained very similar to the original version. The real changes can be seen with updated models for characters and weapons, and a few gameplay features that were added in Last Light. Some of these features include but are not limited to a nicer HUD and more effective nightvision.

The two added difficulty modes (Survivor and Spartan) are also worth mentioning because they provide more re-playability over the original 4. In fact I recommend just playing the game twice on these two modes because they are vastly different.

Not really worth it unless you're a die hard fan of the series but still a noticeable enhancement over the original. I strongly recommend playing this version if you haven't played the original.

One of the most atmospheric games i've ever played

Metro 2033 is short but immersive and unique.
The game doesn't have much replay value. The campaign is around 7-12h long depending on the difficulty you choose.
There's no multiplayer, co-op or "survival" (1 room with waves of enemies) mode to play.
The only thing this game offers you is a very linear and quite short singleplayer campaign.

So why am i recommending this?
It's the most fun i've had in a singleplayer FPS in years! It's very well done.
You can tell that a lot of heart was put into making this game. Not only that but being linear actually helps this game.
The game, as the title suggests, takes place in a metro. An open world/sandbox metro wouldn't make much sense, right?
Being linear helps you to get immersed with the world and creates this claustrophobic feeling you're supposed to have. Being stuck in a long, tight, dark tunnel. Hard to see anything and the graphics and eery* music just helps to get into the mood.
Have to give credit where credit is due. The ammount of detail in this game...Amazing! I couldn't stop taking screenshots!

The only downsight is the voice acting. Artyom is very well voice acted and so are some other characters but there are some very cringeworthy moments. Some of the russian accents are sooo bad i just wanted to cover my ears.
However that is the only complaint i have.

I haven't done a "pros and cons review" in a while so why not list some of 'em now, right?
Pros:
+ Good and very detailed graphics
+Very good and spot on music
+Well done sound effects that help you get immersed
+Intriguing story
+Amazingly atmospheric

Cons:
-Voice acting can be VERY bad at times
-After finishing the game you end up wanting more (which is a pro not a con...)

I didn't find the game scary but people who think Dead Space or F.E.A.R are scary games...Well you people better prepare some adult diapers before playing this masterpiece.

*I do realise that some people spell it "eerie" but when we do a bit of Googling it turns out that both "eery" and "eerie" are correct...Or so it seems.

Videogame based on a novel.
Starting from there, that IS something already rare.

Furthermore, the game achieves it so well it becomes one of the very rare occasions
when the adaptation not only is very good but it also enhances the reading experience.

I recommend reading the book by the way, since it contains several parts not added in the videogames.
Metro 2034 novel not so much, sadly.

Mature and immersive second to none.

Redux Version:
Impressive light effects, and I mean really impressive all the way along.

Same goes for the textures

And performance is hugely improved.

Movement is sometimes a bit clumsy, and that is the only flaw I find in this game.

Whereas most conversations are incredibly mature,
others are a bit "hello-hero-of-the-game".
I find a bit of unbalance between the quality of some conversations and others.
And a bit of laziness here and there regarding the conversations:
When you arrive to Polis, Yasha the kid...

Don't take this as a complaint, I think it's me getting older.

The whole journey is an unforgettable experience.
