What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We’re releasing in Early Access because our initial goal was to release in April (with a lot less features that you are seeing now). But due to the overwhelming response and support from our Kickstarter backers and reaching over 1200% of our goal, we wanted to add a lot more content and features so we can bring you the best game possible! We’re still releasing in April, just in Early Access instead and with a lot more features implemented than we initially planned, and with a lot more still to come. Hop on for the ride!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We will be working on the game until both us and the community feels confident in the feature set presented, but that won't be the end of the game's development either! We have released nearly a patch a week since our Kickstarter ended, so we are fully dedicated to the success of the game.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Unlocked Stretch Goals:
3 Additional Game Modes [2 MORE GAMES HAVE BEEN ADDED!]
Mod Support (3D Models) [THIS HAS BEEN ADDED!]
RPG Kit (30 animated figurines, Dungeon Tileset, Character Sheets) [MOST OF THIS HAS BEEN ADDED!]
Steam Workshop Support [THIS HAS BEEN ADDED!]
CastAR Support
Oculus Rift Support
Customizable Figurines
Space Theme
and tons more!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Tabletop Simulator has all the fundamental features of the game ready for you to play. With over 15 games to choose from and the sandbox nature of the game, you are set to play hundreds of different games. In addition, you can create your own mods and upload them directly to Steam Workshop. The only limitation is of your imagination.

Tons of new content is still to come and your support will help make the game grow even more. Different features are subject to change and your feedback will help shape the direction we take the game for the better!”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will increase when the game leaves early access so be sure to pick it up to save some dosh!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We love our community and are proud that we take our community seriously! With the updates almost every week since our Kickstarter ended, we've taken a lot of the suggestions and feedback they have given us and implemented them into the game! So it's very important to give us your feedback, so we can make Tabletop Simulator the best it can be!”

Update v3.8 New Backgrounds, Semi-lock, & Improvements

We have some exciting additions for you this week! New backgrounds have been added, BUT you can also now add your own custom backgrounds too! Additionally, we added Semi-Lock, which will enable you to play without worrying about accidentally knocking pieces over. Hope you enjoy these new features in addition to the overall fixes and improvements as well.

New and Custom Backgrounds:
  • 4 new backgrounds been added: Cathedral, Downtown, Regal, and Sunset.
  • You can now import your own custom backgrounds (Lighting is not affected by custom backgrounds, only the skybox).
  • Custom background images should be hdri panorama images >4000x2000.
  • Choose the backgrounds’ lighting you would like first then choose Custom.

New Physics Mode Semi-Lock:
  • Semi-Lock causes objects that have come to rest to be semi-locked in place (can still be picked up but ignores physics).
  • This means you can't accidentally knock over objects without direct manipulation with Semi-Lock enabled.
  • Semi-Lock can be found in the Host Options menu.

Save Improvements:
  • Loading save files will be much faster after the first load (Workshop and Normal Save).
  • More error checking to avoid one bad save breaking the ability to load other saves.
  • Optimized GUI scrolling for Workshop and Save Files.

General Improvements:
  • Custom objects and decks will no longer fly all over the place when loaded up fresh.
  • Added a spinning loading icon for the server browser so you know when it is fetching servers.
  • Added red private text header when in the private notepad.

Fixes:
  • Fixed an issue where custom objects were loading up the wrong texture.
  • Fixed the back of the quarter being rotated incorrectly.
  • Fixed flip/rotate on certain objects that would cause them to fall through the table.
  • Fixed issues uploading or updating to the Steam Workshop when nothing would happen when submitted.
  • Fixed typing + or - in a text box would also scale selected objects.
  • Fixed custom model importer type selection not working properly.
  • Fixed multiple command lines breaking the Workshop downloading.
  • Fixed some missing radio button not being converted from checkboxes.
  • Fixed hover highlighting working over GUI when holding down your mouse button.

Update v3.7 Flick tool added & additional improvements and fixes

We don’t normally do Monday updates (in fact, this is our first!), but due to the DDoS issues we had earlier, we worked really hard to get a new server up so we can get the server browser back online. Thank you very much for your patience during the downtime as that was completely out of our control. Berserk-Games.Com will be temporarily down in the meantime, but this will have no affect on the master server going forward.

Since we had to do a hotfix so you can access the new master server, this is an update of what we’ve been working on so far since after the holidays. The flick tool was a much requested feature, so hope you enjoy that new addition.

We hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and let’s all enjoy the new year - 2015!

Flick Added:
  • New hand mode Flick has been added to the pointer selection menu on the left side of the screen.
  • Flick can used to launch objects using a ‘pull back and release’ motion.
  • Flick works on all selected objects or on an individual object that you click and drag on.
  • Can use 'CTRL + LMB' to select multiple objects or in Hand mode use box selection then swap to Flick.
  • Flick is great for pool, block stacking, marbles, and other games that require dexterity to play.

Card Hands Improvements:
  • Cards will not begin to overlap until there are more than 5 cards in your hand.
  • This will make it easier to read the text on card if you do not want to use ALT to zoom.

General Improvements:
  • Greatly optimized networking traffic when modifying/manipulating multiple objects.
  • Custom objects use 30% less cpu resources (model, figurine, deck, and board).
  • Lift height and rotation snap has been moved up next to the top bar to avoid clipping issues with lower resolutions.
  • Box selection will no longer select objects that are hidden in fog of war.
  • Recreated the hand icon for the hand mode selection menu.

Fixes:
  • Fixed adding or removing a password from your game not updating for people joining through Steam friends.
  • Fixed tables being able to be placed insides of bags by throwing it at the legs (lol).
  • Fixed voice chat microphone icons not appearing for all players.
  • Fixed the sharing violation error when overwriting certain saves (Hopefully).
  • Fixed sharing is caring achievement not working retroactively (must be subscribed to your mod).
  • Fixed default video quality settings back to medium.
  • Fixed grab + lower while not in hand mode picking up objects.
  • Fixed some line tool bugs when hovering over GUI elements while measuring.

Before Tabletop Simulator I had to buy boardgames and have them sit in my closet because I don't have any friends to play with. But now with Tabletop SImulator I can download games for free and still have no one to play with!

Awesome game, and the workshop support is fantastic. I wouldn't be surprised if people were still playing Tabletop Simulator a decade from now. If there was a better measuring tool (for stuff like Warhammer 40K) I would love it even more.

The controls are kind of awkward at first but once you've got to grips with them this is a brilliant simulator. Definitely a must have if you enjoy Tabletop games due to the vast selection of games already available in the workshop.

Brilliant fun, a must play with friends! You can play basically any moderately popular board or card game that you can think of (thanks to the workshop). I've played through a range of things, from Cards against humanity to uno and pictionary! Throroughly recommend.

Although the title itself may make it seem it'll probably be one of those unfunny games like Goat Simulator, this game is pretty fun.
When I picked up this game, I honestly thought the community would be a dread and that I wouldn't be able to play a serious game without people flicking everywhere. However, I have met some great people on this game, and so far, there's been very limited annoyance.

Workshop support is what really makes this game stand out in my opinion. Without it, it'd may still be a good game, but the workshop allows many other games to be played, whether that is card games or board games. There is an endless stream of games to play created by users, so you're not restricted to a few games that are preset. You can pretty much find any classic board game or card game on there, and if it's not on there, well you should make it before anyone else takes that idea, or wait for a smarter and more productive person to do that for you.

However, the game itself doesn't have a lot of players and it can be sometimes tricky to get in a public game. I only see about 5 or 6 public servers, out of the 100s of servers there are, which is slightly disappointing, but that is not really the games fault, but this can be sometimes frustrating as you are only forced to select a few games, and not all of them you will like, so you would have to host a server and wait for a long amount of time to see of anyone wants to play go fish with you, which surprisingly, most people don't. Go fish, more like go ♥♥♥♥ yourself.

Also, this game cannot really be played by yourself, bit of a ♥♥♥♥ing no brainer but it's true. If you didn't know that you can't play chess by yourself, I'm pretty concerned onto how you have the intelligence or attention span to read this. I don't even see why to put in a singleplayer option sometimes. It's really boring and nearly impossible to play by yourself. The whole point of single player is to play by yourself, how in God's name can I play checkers by myself? The only game I've seem to found to play myself is solitaire, However, I won't lie that the single player feature is useful, but very limited to being useful. Apart from the custom content creator, if you have friends at your house, you can whip out the single player, but it may be sort of awkward as you would need to constantly switch places to move the piece on the computer. I've never tried it, but what's the whole point of playing monopoly on the computer solo with my friend next to me, when I can just get the ♥♥♥♥ing game out in real life? If you do not have a certain game though, then this can be pretty useful in some cases, but only with board games. However, I do like to play online with friends and sometimes strangers.

It's a shame that not more of my friends have this game, as it's spectacular fun and I especially like this game I guess for my interest in board games and card games. There's a few glitches in it, and it can be annoying at times, but I would say get this game if you're interested in board games, card games etc. If not, then this game may not be for you, but there are plenty of games on the workshop.

never, ever in my life have i seen developers be this determined and caring for their own game. an ambitious statement, yeah, but look at the patch notes for every single update for this game and you'll see that they're CONSTANTLY adding new clever features that make it just a little bit more enjoyable, bit by bit.

even if you don't like tabletop games, this will still probably manage to hold your attention for at least a little while as you mess around with all the neat little things this game has to offer. i highly reccomend it for anyone, though some definitely may enjoy it than others.

seriously though, it's awesome. when game devs go that extra mile to put some extra love and care into their games, it really does show. this is nowhere near an early access game, and if they were to release it right now it'd be even more finished than a lot of games out there on the market today. and as i say that, i know that there's still more cool things the devs are going to add.

Good simulator, lots of good games. It takes about an hour to figure out the interface, but when you know how to deal with it it works really well. Lots of great mods make it possible to play Arkham Horror, Uno, Mahjong or whatever you want, just check the workshop and see if your favorite board game is there (it probably is).

Saves you the hassle of setting everything up and putting it back in the box, as well as playing with people that you can't meet in person. The bugs are manageable, some can be annoying but the same can be said about dropping a token or a die on the floor irl!

This game has alot of potential and considering that it is an early access game, it is very highly detailed and the Steam Workshop is an amazing way for people to show off what they have made. However, the controls can be a bit fiddly and the UI can take a while to get used to. Overall, I think this game is worth a try and I am looking foreward to seeing what more can be done! 8/10
