The Scoop #14 - DLC & VR Info!

Welcome to The Scoop, our regular community update for Tabletop Simulator and Berserk Games!

Dev Chat

It's been awhile since our last issue of The Scoop and that's because we've been putting out patches nearly every week! So there wasn't really a need for The Scoop when we also have our Monthly Newsletter. But here we are again!

It's been a crazy month with lots of patches and lots of nifty new features. Hope you've liked it all! Upgrading to Unity 5 was a smooth transition with hardly any issues, we've added more DLCs, and scripting has been an awesome addition with you guys really making the most of it and creating some really cool things! I can't wait to see what else you guys come up with.

The new file browser is amazing and I'm so glad that we added that, giving you more options to choose from. So you can still upload your files to your favorite sites or you can use the file browser to upload it to your Steam Cloud or privately test by using the Local option. Definitely makes testing and checking things much faster and easier all around.

What do you think of the new Locked physics mode? Have you tried it yet? In case you didn't read the patch notes, go into your Host → Options menu and in the General tab, you can choose between Full (normal physics), Semi-Lock (reduced physics), and Locked (minimal physics). With the new Locked physics, there is no throwing, clumping, lowering, or pushing and objects will always auto raise. So if you've been wanting to experience Tabletop Simulator without all the physics, then this mode is for you!

The following is a gif that demonstrates locked physics mode.

And as promised in the last issue, the last video in our Tutorial Series is now up! This video covers the Steam Workshop - how to use it and how to upload your mods to it. While this is the final episode in this series, there will be other videos that will cover all the new features and other things we may have missed. Enjoy!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSV7aGX8yng

Also, don't forget to check out our Knowledge Base. There is a lot of helpful information that you may not have known existed, so be sure to read through it! We're adding things to it all the time, so keep checking back!

DLC News

Next on the horizon, we're happy to announce our partnership with Far Off Games to bring their awesome game Xia: Legends of a Drift System to Tabletop Simulator!

Xia is a 3-5 player, sandbox-style, competitive space adventure. Each player starts as a lowly (but hopeful!) captain of a small starship. Players fly their ships about the system completing a variety of Missions, exploring new Sectors, and battling other ships. Captains vie with each other for Titles, riches, and, most importantly, Fame. The most adaptive, risk-taking, and creative players will excel. One captain will rise above the others, surpassing mortality by becoming Legend!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And if you missed our last announcement, we're also working with Atlas Games and will be bringing Three Cheers For Master to Tabletop Simulator! We're super excited to be working with them!

In Three Cheers For Master you’re the minion of an evil overlord. When Master's blue, it's the minions who suffer. As a lieutenant in Master's army — a foreminion — it falls to you to cheer him up. Not the easiest task, even in the best of times.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Future Updates

We value our community's feedback and over this past year we have implemented a lot of features and suggestions that you guys have given us. And we're still listening! Please continue to post your suggestions on our official forums.

"VR????!?!??! When will Tabletop Simulator get VR? TTS NEEDS VR! Give us VR!"

This has been brought up a LOT recently, especially with the release of the Vive. When will we get VR for Tabletop Simulator? VR has been thought about since our Kickstarter 2 years ago. It was one of our stretch goals and just like you, we'd love for it to happen! That being said, we can't give you a date of when it will be done, because we just don't know!

However, we ARE working on it! And so far progress is looking good! We are currently working with the Vive, so that will be our focus right now (Sorry Oculus users!). There's still a lot to do, but it really will be a pretty cool experience all around to get VR into Tabletop Simulator! Since VR is our focus, updates will be slowing down, so don't expect to see any patches in the next few weeks.

Stay tuned for more information in the future!

Bias: I am a dinosaur. My arms are normally too short to reach a real table for board games. This makes it easier.

In my opinion, one of my favorite games on steam. The ability to play most board games with little clean up and expense make this simulator great. Thanks to friends. I have learned new board games, that I have seen in game shops that looked interesting, but did not want to spend $40+ on and find out that its not fun, too difficult to play, or no real life friends who wanted to play. This simulator has led me to purchase physical copies of games like Catan, Munchkins, Love Letter, Forbidden Island and a few others. And also has allowed me to introduce friends to these game in real life, who have also found them enjoyable.

I would give this game 10/10. It is a game I will continue to play and use to learn new games. Also if you have this, and have not tried Secret Hitler. You should. :D

This game has better community than any other games in Steam I have played.

If you're unfamiliar with some game (either board game or card game) people wants to teach you how to play them instead of saying: "Lol, you're noob. You don't even know how to play this one." or "You don't know the rules? Then get out of here, not going to teach you how to play this game in any kind of way." This game is one of the best I have played with great community and would recommend it to anyone who I know, including you.

I would give 10/10 so far.

Amazing product. Very small learning curve to get custom stuff working, but you can run basicly anything tabletop in this well. physics can be locked on a per object bases. all the tools are wonderfully straightforward. Last thing this game needs is for workshop uploads to upload the assets themselves, and not weblinks to them (note only the host needs to have the workshop mod/game, other players do not need it to play with them).

I spent more time playing in a room where its just a banana on a table than actually playing tabletop games, that says a lot about the games you make and how arbitrary things you put it in are very important, would recommend the Guess Who? Pepe Edition

If you have any interest in tabletop games this is a great game to have. You can find plenty of people willing to jump into a game and just have a go if you dont have any friends. If you do have friends then its even better.

This game is a blast. Anything you can do with any board or card game, you can do in this. This includes Role playing games such as D&D. If you're looking for hours of fun playing literally anything, this is the game for you. If you can't see a good game to play in the list, go into the workshop. I can almost garuntee what you want is there somewhere. My favorate part of this game is that you can load a mod into your friend's game without them needing the mod. I recommend this game greatly

Really good game, never gets old because almost any board game you can think of can be played in this game. Amazing value really.

I only half-heartedly bought it when it was in early access, but this game has exceeded all expectations. I thought it would be hard to get people to obey the rules if they're given an open environment, turns out that wasn't a problem at all. Trolls & griefers are rare, and a host can easily ban and fix any damage done in seconds by rewinding time.

If you like tabletop games then you HAVE to like this game. It simulates a tabletop and you have to follow the rules for the game, so house rules are accepted here. Also it's an easy way to get together with friends for a few games when you can't schedule a game night. They keep adding in features to make sure the game matches up with what you need to play diffent games, like blindfolding, teams, and even scripting so someone else can make things easier for you by writing that script. Hosting a server is built in, there is kick and ban options, the only thing this game is missing is an FOV slider, but you don't need one. the FOV is fine. I have nothing bad to say about this game.

Pros: everything

Cons: none

The interface is a little intimidating at first, but you soon realize that is has to be, as the fone-tuned control it gives you is necessary to make this a shockingly immersive experience. Honestly I love it to death, and once I got the hang of it I saw the future of virtual gaming possibilities. The only downside I have is finding people I know who are willing to actually breech the learning curve with me :/

Regardless, I would love for this to grow and develop, and see more things like it. Fantastic in theory and execution.

9/10. Buy it if board/card games interest you.

It's almost hard to believe that this game is legal, what with the fact that you can get almost any board/card game you can imagine for free on the Steam Workshop. I live in Korea and my family is in the United States. Playing board games with my mom just like when I was back home adds a sense of togetherness that we normally can't have. Sometimes I miss my home, but this game helps me cope with it.
Why not 10/10? It lacks a bit of polish and is probably not quite as optimized as it could be. Still, great game. Pick it up.

This game is insanely worth it. It's basically hundreds and thousands of games thrown together with the ability to flip the table out of rage. I've spent lots of hours playing betrayal at house on the hill and waifu wars and D&D campaigns and super fight and yu-gi-oh and chess and pokemon, and MTG and jesus christ i have so many games on it, just buy it mates

I am absolutely in love with Tabletop Simulator. I was initially hesitant to buy it for the $20 price tag and wanted to wait for it to come up for sale before getting it, but my group and I really wanted to get started on a Pathfinder campaign and I'm incredibly impatient. This has been worth every cent so far, There are an amazing number of really well done models on the workshop and building maps is much easier than I thought it would be. It's still time consuming, but once you get the hang of what to do and how to move and arrange pieces, it's really intuitive and works out really well.

My campaign is going great. The players love it, and TTS really makes it feel like we're all around a table in a room together instead of miles apart. We've tried out lots of other tabletop programs to try and get the group going, but none of them felt as real as this one has and it's added a different element to tabletop gaming that other programs have fallen short of for me and my group. The controls make DMing so simple, and honestly the only thing I can think to improve right now would be the ability to draw more defined fog of war instead of just the squares. Workshop support is A+ and I have had zero problems retrieving items I've subscribed to.

Overall, I cannot recommend this high enough to other pen and paper RPG groups. Having the 3d maps and being able to decorate the world with flavor items has been a real treat. I can honestly spend hours upon hours in game doing nothing but building.
