“Technically the ‘main feature’ in the Thinking with Time Machine mod is a time machine ..., which is great and all but look, LEGS.”

Definitely one of the best Portal 2 mods out there. It's got a very nice twist that makes you think of Portal 2's puzzle elements in a whole new way, even if no new elements are actually added. The story is very rough and simple, but the puzzles are what matter the most here. The graphics give this mod a fresh new aesthetic that is neither too clustered with overgrown themes or random debris or even just silly level design, nor is it so simple that makes you feel like playing a poorly rendered 2.5D game. Instead, it's balanced like in Portal 2, but with a different, more futuristic feel to it. The campaign puzzles are great, although I feel like it was a little too short and restrained, since this mod allows for some pretty unique new puzzles that weren't considered first. However, what I like the most about it is its Steam Workshop integration. Though it isn't very popular or active, the limit to this mod is your imagination, as you get to explore a vast new world of possibilities within an extremely familiar environment. And it's free, so I couldn't recommend this more!

This is a really well made mod for portal 2, the maps look like valve could have made them same with the time machine, the only problem i have with the mod and its not that big of a deal is how short it was and it wasn't very difficult, i understand that i took alot of effot to make this mod so i don't mind. If you have beaten portal 2 and want a bit more portal action get this its fun!

I played it all the way through. It is a clever game, but the lack of story and music really bring it down... like REALLY down. By the end of it, I can't really say what the story really was even about. It's free, so try it out. It's really the best thing going for it.

Update: Most bugs now appear to be fixed, and if you have any, make sure that first of all you aren't in the beta for Portal 2, since if you are it will CTD as soon as you get past the Valve intro video, if you have sound issues, rebuild the sound cache or do a clean uninstall and reinstall it for the fixed cache direct, make sure you have Portal 2 installed on the same HDD, and if all else fails, verify the integrity of the game cache on both TWTM and Portal 2.

Anyhow, onto the review of the actual game/mod now that I've had time to play it after fixing the bugs;
First of all, if this was a workshop submitted mod (not possible due to the extent of the gameplay and asset changes in some areas, therefore the store mod) it would most definitely be one of the highest rated community campaigns along with 12 Angry Tests and Designed for Danger. It may not be the strongest in terms of pure level design and perfection of the core Portal formula, but it certainly makes up for it through having the most significant gameplay changes to come out of the Portal community yet. If you're a fan of the Portal series, this is definitely a must play, especially considering it's free, you'd struggle to not got any sort of enjoyment out of TWTM, even if you didn't complete it or care for the TM mechanic much.

It doesn't have the strength of a proper retail game which is as to be expected due to the fact it's a community created mod by a couple of guys in their spare time. Most of the downsides amount to length of the mod and levels of polish. If this had been picked up by Valve for instance and given another few months of development time to polish it up and add to it, it could have no doubt been sold as a single player expansion to Portal 2 and have been worth paying money for.

In summary, if you're a fan of the Portal games, play it. It's free, you've got nothing to lose, and there's a very strong possibility you'll like it. Interested in seeing what the developers of the mod go on to do, since this shows a lot of promise from them in getting a job in the industry or creating their own games.

If Valve made games with the number (CENSORED), then this would be the (CENSORED) game in the series.

I seriously have never played any portal 2 mod quite like this. It is incredibly awesome, even in the first few puzzles I have played. I love the new graphics style they have given this mod, with the glassy and polished techy rooms... It's so amazing. It does take a while to get used to the time machine controls.
