This needs to be said first up, the recommendation for this game is a tentative one.
Dead Effect is a first-person zombie shooter, has a very Dead Space-y feel to it and a very linear story full of cliche. But, let's face it, you're not here for the story, you're here to paint the walls in zombie and that's what you'll end up doing with much gusto.
~ Decent game considering the lowish price point, quite fun to play.
~ Gun combat is visceral and intense with horde based enemies, and grenades can be a lifesaver, just don't stand near them, they can kill you too.
~ Visual atmosphere is very reminiscent of Dead Space with the linear semi-claustrophobic levels.
~ Graphics are surprisingly good for an iOS port.
~ Controls are very smooth and easy to grasp, though I had to severely reduce the mouse sensitivity from standard to get it to a playable level.
~ Good variety of enemies.
~ Enemies pose a decent threat, even in normal mode (though, they can be a bit obnoxious at times).
~ You're never constantly short of ammo in normal mode, though you do need to be a semi-decent shot.
~ You rarely feel overpowered for area.
~ Atmosphere is far too reliant on the music to create tension, often making it harder to hear if there are enemies nearby.
~ Game is DESPERATELY in need for a melee attack, most of my deaths so far have been from being swamped by enemies and I'm unable to break free and they chew my health up in about two seconds.
~ Firing from the hip is more accurate than ironsighting (for me at least).
~ Hit detection seems to be a little wonky. I had numerous incidents where standard zombies were taking three shotgun blasts directly to the head and it wasn't killing them or it was killing the ones behind them.
~ Speech volume is way too soft even at maximum, I almost had to turn the music off to be able to hear the voices with any clarity.
~ Combat gets very repetitive after a while; shoot zombies, find ammo, repeat.
