What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We are making Gang Beasts available through Steam Early Access to fund development of the full game and build a community that is directly involved in informing and supporting the production of the game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We have not set a release date for the full version of Gang Beasts, we plan to make new content, stages, character body shapes and sizes, and game modes for each Early Access release, we will review significant updates and plan for a specific full release date when the number of stages, character types, game modes, character customisations, and other content to be included in the game is finished.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full game will play similarly to the Early Access versions but with a full character customisation system, new stages and environments, additional character body shapes and sizes, a single player and 2 to 4 player co-op story mode (with multistage sub-boss and end boss fights), complex AI enemies, numerous game and tournament modes, and various mini-games to play.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Early Access version of the game is a local multiplayer game with limited support for solo play (a full single player and 2 to 4 player co-op story mode is planned), there are 8 playable stages in the current version with support for 2 - 8 player gang fights.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The Early Access price is the same price we plan for the full game (excluding discounts and promotions).”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We want the Early Access community to inform the development of the game, specifically we want to have ongoing dialogues with the community about the game to help us identify and prioritise the key features, content, and modifications that need to be added or made and to make sure Gang Beasts as fun as it can be.”

Patch notes for the Gang Beasts 0.3.4 “unstable” build and participation information on the Gang Beasts Online Multiplayer Beta

distribute() the service we use to administrate online beta keys was irregularly offline last weekend but is working as expected currently, please don't submit multiple key requests as batches of keys are sent out in a FIFO (first in, first out) order and the volume of duplicate requests currently is congesting the service (duplicate submissions have to be removed manually making key administration take longer).

Information on participating in the Gang Beasts Online Multiplayer Beta

The signup process for participating in the Gang Beasts online multiplayer beta is open.

To manage the distribution of Steam keys for the online beta we are using the distribute() build distribution service from Vlambeer, distribute() is designed for the distribution of keys to press (please ignore Press references when submitting key requests).

Please note that the initial online multiplayer beta only supports Windows operating systems and is currently limited to three stages ('grind', 'subway', and 'trucks'), the next batch of stages that are being optimised for inclusion in the online multiplayer are 'buoy', 'gymnasium', 'ring', and 'elevators'.

The process for submitting a key requests for the Gang Beasts online multiplayer beta through distribute() has five stages, the process is:

Open the URL http://beef.city/beta in a browser

In the ‘Log in with your e-mail address:’ section (outlined with a red box in the screen capture immediately below this sentence) enter the email address you want the beta key(s) to be sent to

Check the email account you submitted for an email from noreply@dodistribute.com with the subject line “distribute() | Confirm your request” and follow the instructions for confirming the request.

To confirm the request paste the 16 character code from the last sentence of the email in to text field labelled ‘Code:’ (outlined with a red box in the screen capture immediately below this sentence) and left click on the ‘confirm request’ button or left click on the long URL on the second to last line of the email.

Please note the maximum number of keys that can be approved per request is four.

Confirming the request will open the main distribute() key request page, from this page specify the number of keys you want to request and select the ‘PC (Steam)’ setting (outlined with a red box in the screen capture below).

Ignore the 'Login with Twitch or Google (YouTube)' section unless you are a YouTube / Twitch content maker and want to associate your YouTube / Twitch account with your key submission.

In the ‘Or add your own publishing platform:’ section enter a your Steam username in ’Name:’ text field (outlined with a yellow box in the third screen capture at the end of this post) and left click the ‘request’ button to submit the request.

Please note that the online multiplayer beta keys will be sent out in batches, the first batches of keys will be sent out by email from next week with subsequent batches of keys being sent out more frequently as server capacity scales.

Patch notes for the Gang Beasts 0.3.4 “unstable” build

  • fixed an issue that made characters stay in the ‘headbutt’ state when headbutting

  • modified the climbing system to make climbing less difficult
  • modified the colour palette on the ‘trucks’ stage

Information on switching to / from "stable" and “unstable” branches

To download the ‘unstable’ branch on Steam right-click on the ‘Gang Beasts’ game name on the Steam library page and select 'Properties' from the window that opens, from this window select the 'BETAS' tab and then the 'unstable' option from the dropdown menu (the menu labelled 'Select the beta you would like to opt into:’. To revert back to the last 'stable' branch select 'NONE- Opt out of all beta programs' from the same menu.

For reference switching between 'unstable' and 'stable' branches of the game forces the selected build to download to the Steam client (replacing the previously selected build).

Patch notes for the Gang Beasts 0.3.3 “unstable” build and information on the Gang Beasts Online Multiplayer Beta

Since the last Early Access build was published in January we have been working with Coatsink to prepare the infrastructure for a public beta of online multiplayer support for Gang Beasts and are now at a stage of development where we can make a selection of the most optimised stages available to play in an online multiplayer beta for play testing and stress testing.

The online multiplayer beta will be made available through Steam as a separate build from the current ‘stable’ and ‘unstable’ alpha builds, this is necessary to preserve access to the current ‘unstable’ and ‘stable’ alpha builds (while the stages not currently included in the online beta are optimised for online multiplayer) and to give the Early Access community a specific forum for posting online specific questions, bug reports and feedback to.

Information on the three stages that are playable in the initial online beta will be posted on Steam this month (as a Steam announcement) with specific instructions on the process for participating in the online beta and information on the next batch of stages that are currently being optimised for online multiplayer. The first batches of online beta keys will be sent out by email this month with subsequent batches of keys being sent out frequently as server capacity is scaled.

The online multiplayer beta will be merged with the ’unstable’ alpha branch at a later date (when the key work on stress testing and bug fixing the networking implementation has ended and server capacity is scaled to support the full Gang Beasts Early Access community).

Whilst testing and scaling the capacity of the online beta over the next 3-4 months we will continue to push new content, optimisations, and polish to the ‘unstable’ branch, starting with the 0.3.3 ‘unstable’ alpha build published with the post.

Please post feedback and information on game bugs on the 0.3.3 "unstable" alpha build thread if you have issues specific to this build.

Please note there is no "stable" alpha build released with this post

The list of modifications and fixes made in the 0.3.3 "unstable" alpha build are:

  • added four AI character voice sets
  • added four character voice sets
  • added setting to the Input menu for enabling / disabling XInput on Windows systems (the game has to be restarted before the XInput setting is executed) *

About This Game

Gang Beasts is a silly local multiplayer party game with surly gelatinous characters, brutal mêlée fight sequences, and absurdly hazardous environments.

Watch in horror and amusement as gangs of floppy antagonists grab, push, pull, and shove their enemies from permanently suspended window-cleaning scaffolds, unattended ferris wheels, and commercial haulage trucks.

Gasp with shock and delight at the spectacle of stupidly pugnacious thugs punching, kicking, and throwing their foes into unspecified hazardous machinery, flaming incinerator pits, and the paths of moving trains.

This is honestly over-rated for what it actually is. Not only was it fairly laggy throughout game play, the actual structure of the game is a bit lack luster, like theres nothing more to do with it. This game has a lot of potential but seriously lacks some sort of structure with the game.

Honestly £11 for this game is clearly not worth it. I can imagine it would be good to play it with someone else but it's not really multiplayer friendly.

Love to play a lot of games where 4 of more players an get together and play. I took a stab at this one after reading all the reviews. It all honesty, the videos of this game don't do it justice. When you actually PLAY this game with friends, you'll see why everyone raves about it so much. I had the opportunity to play this tonight with 7 other people and I don't think we have ever laughed so much. My face muscles actually HURT from laughing at this game. The game is early access, so take it with a grain of salt. Bugs are there. But all in all, we didn't run into many at all. I think the biggest challenge was dealing with some camera issues on some maps when players get spread apart.

If you're looking for online multiplayer, it is there in the form of beta and getting in right now seems to be taking a little bit of time. So, I wouldn't buy this game on the sole ideal that you can jump right into the multiplayer beta. But, if you have at least one friend to play this with locally, then prepare to have a blast. Even just 2 or 3 three players is the same level of fun that you have with 8.

Hats off the the developer for this game. I wish I had gotten it back when it was on the last sale, but don't let the $20 price tag steer you away. This game is well worth every penny of the $20. I can't wait to see what they add and change as it continues to move forward.

My friends and I absolutely love this game to death. There are plenty of pros and cons though

PROS:
-fun game
- you are able to play with multiple people on 1 computer
- 8 players
- fun and unpredictable gameplay
- an entertaining gamemode (NPC vs Players) for when you don't have Internet
- The costumes are amazing

CONS:
- considering that I managed to get Skyrim and all 3 DLCs for $16, it sucks that this game is $20
- You can ONLY play with people that are with you IRL (I know they're working on online mode though)
- Since its new, it has bugs (for example on the map with the giant fan, if every player is on 1 side of the map there is a chance that the camera will show plain black from outside of the map)

SUGGESTIONS
- Once you got your big stuff like online mode sorted out, lower the price to around $5-$10. It's a fun game but, if you wanna get multiplayer up and running, people aren't gonna wanna pay $80 so then 4 friends can play and having only one for $20 is kinda useless unless they're with you.
- add costumes to the game that cost around 10c each and can be bought on the Steam Market and also the Main Menu. Over time this will contribute to the money that you earn and won't be too much for people to pay whilst simultaneously not being as much work as some of the other options.
- Give us an ability to make profiles so then we don't have to wait for up to 8 players to choose their outfit and it will also give us the ability to have a name next to our score.
- If you are doing the 10c outfit idea, set up the workshop so people can make outfits that you could look over and put into the game
- you guys probably won't do it but, maybe you could do a main story kind of thing, release a mission a month or something like that so there's a little more to do when you're either alone or want to play something new.

Great game, great concept, great fun

Right Now: 7/10
Once multiplayer is up and running (assuming the HUD isn't crazy): 9/10
If you add the costume idea: 10/10 (I just love the outfits)

HUD Suggestions:
- Keep it simple, Just have 6 buttons at the beginning
- Online
- Offline Versus
- Offline vs NPC
- Profiles
- Options
- Exit
- Then for the Online, have password protected servers with the hosts name and server name
- For the options make the Up arrow on the Num Pad registered as a different one as the Actual arrows so then there's more keys to choose from when 2 people are forced to share 1 keyboard.

PS: The only reason I have so many suggestions is because I love this game and really wanna help to make it better (even if my impact is literally nothing)

Gang Beasts is an endlessly replayable physics fighting game. Up to 8 players (online or local) choose their color and costume and then duke it out on various maps, which include a Ferris wheel, a subway, a boxing ring, and many, many more. Every round is full of laughs and intense moments that will make you feel as if you're in some kind of action movie. In addition to the fun and hilarious gameplay, the graphics and soundtrack are fantastic.

All in all, Gang Beasts is a great game in many ways, and a definite recommendation.

This game is extremely fun, but if you want to play with friends you need 2 controllers, so luckily in my case I did ^_^
Also, my brother and I have so much fun playing this, but they really need to implement online play too, so me and my other friends can also play with each other.
+Good graphics
+Dynamic ragdoll system (Reminds me of euphoria)

Greatest local coop game on the market. I know that is rehashed every so often in these reviews but I havent had as much fun with four friends in any other game besides this one. I play every so often when my family or friends comes around and we always have a blast. As the multiplayer is soon to come out dont skip this game just for that reason. 10/10 Ign

So I bought this game a while back and I've been playing it almost whenever a mate comes around from wherever the Hell they live and take a break from whatever the Hell they're doing. It's just occured to me that the only time I happen to actually care about what my mates are doing is when either it concerns me or it concerns something that may also happen to concern me. If I was any more uninvolved in what my friends were doing I'd be completely irrelevent to their daily lives. Like a small peice of chewing gum on a pavement somewhere. It also just occured to me that I'm an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, so none of that matters so me anyway.

Gang Beasts! Another excitingly simple game that was generated on IndieDB, which seems to be one of the hottest places to get indie games from. I suppose that Steam just starts selling whatever stiffens their willies, as a lot of the stuff from IndieDB seems to end up on Steam. Anyway, Gang Beasts is a arcadey, 3D fighting game in which players control questionably stable jelly babies as they brawl and fight for no apparent reason. It's like the whole premise of the game is a plot hole and the developer excuses this plot hole by saying "because" and then stops halfway as a hair gets caught up in the gears of his brain. But enough offensive jokes.

One reason I probably enjoy Gang Beasts more than my other arcadey Steam games is that it's entertaining. Not just the sort of entertaining where writers stick Seth MacFarlane in a booth, get him drunk, then write down whatever offensive dialogue dribbles out of his ♥♥♥♥♥. I'm talking about that wonderful kind of entertainment that sort of comes naturally and sort of makes you queestion whether it was intentional or not. Like when a Micheal Bay movie actually does something good.

The charming simplicity and art style of the game make it somewhat hilarious to watch the wobbling mutants flop about, throwing punches and making hysterical floppy laughing noises with their nonexistant mouths. That, of course, makes me further appreciate that the game is a multiplayer game! Yes, you can enjoy the wibbly wobbly laughing noises, not just alone, but with friends! Which also makes it ten times more fun as playing alone is sort of boring, unless of couse you've discovered how to use Dev mode, which, on this particular game, is about as much use as a knitted condom.

I wouldn't say the game is perfect. The lack of online multiplayer makes multiplayer in general extremely hard. "Yes, you and your mates can play this game together, but they have to drive down to wherever the ♥♥♥♥ you happen to live in order to do so" Unless you live near your best mate, live near your Siblings r at least have a sex slave locked away in your basement, multiplayer can only be accomplished when the second, thid and fourth player are in the same room as you, playing on the same PC.
Also, this game is buggy. Not just the sort of buggy where there's that one part of that one map where you can walk through a wall, but the sort of buggy where you look down to see that your leg is halfway up your ♥♥♥♥ buggy. The character models seem to have a feud underway with the laws of physics, as characters tend to just randomly dart in one direction, as if someone's just landed a roundhouse kick on their left testicle. Also, for some reason, the game doesn't seem to have a damage system at all, since you can be absolutely drilling at someone's head only for them to land a single headbutt and send you flying onto your backside.

However, despite the game having more bugs than a Dog with worms, the charming way in which the game is styled makes me unable to refuse its' shiny, colourful, seizure-inducing fun that I get from playing it. If I was going to say anything about this game, I'd say it's probably better to approach it as someone who's played many Indie games before. It's seemingly the embodyment of what we expect from Indie games. It's simple, it's funny, it's cute and it has about as much potential as a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with worms. It may be shiny and it may LOOK good, but once you're inside it you can practically sense the bugs. And, yes, I was going for offensive that time.
